  I can't connect to machines/shares by NetBIOS names. Below is console output showing the problem. • kill a hung mount process

  I have a virtual machine drive that ran out of space, so I shutdown the VM, extended the volume using lvextend. After resizing the partition (ext3), I ran e2fsck on it, and it found and corrected errors. Unfortunately, when I ran efsck one more time, there were more errors that had to be fixed. I went through 3 rounds of e2fsck before I decided to try mounting it to clean up some space manually. I tried mounting it, but the mount process hung. I tried to "kill -9" the mount process, but that did not kill it. I killed the parent process, but that did not kill it either. Any ideas on how to kill a rogue mount process? In other word, have a look at the following pic: 1 -> 222 -> 3 111 -> 2 -> 333 11 -> 22 -> 33 11 -> 2222 -> 3333 Suppose that - is indicated one TAB. As you see, each column is justified from left. I need to fill each TAB with Spaces, so that the justification not be confused. If I use 'Find & Replace' option to change each TABs to a specific number of Spaces, justification will be confused because each column have its own character number.   So I have a table in Excel with formulas. When I add a new row, the new row automatically fills in the formulas as well, which is great. My problem is that it also changes the formula in the row above the added row as well. Here's what happens specifically: My table's last row is row 24. A formula I have in that row is the following: =COUNTIF(C$11:C24,"y")/(COUNTIF(C$11:C24,"Y")+COUNTIF(C$11:C24,"N")) When I add in data in row 25 the formula is updated in row 25 as well, which is what I want, to the following: =COUNTIF(C$11:C25,"y")/(COUNTIF(C$11:C25,"Y")+COUNTIF(C$11:C25,"N")) My problem is that the row above also updates - my row 24 changes to the same as row 25 (the C24 goes to C25). Why is my row 24 formula changing when I add a row 25? Note, my formulas above row 24 stay the same when I add in row 25 - only row 24 changes when I add in 25. Is there a way to not update the row above the row being added? This problem continues when additional rows are added - If I add in a row 26, then the formula in rows 24-26 then all reference C26. Why are they all updating?

• Storing PLSQL stored-procedure values in Oracle memory caches for extended periods

  I am collecting runtime profiling data from PLSQL stored procedures. The data is collected as certain stored procedures execute, but it needs to accumululate across multiple executions of those procedures. To minimize overhead, I'd like to store that profiling data in some PLSQL-accessable Oracle memory-resident storage somewhere for the duration of the data collection interval, and then dump out the accumulated values. The data collection interval might be seconds or hours; its ok not to store this data across system boots. Something like session state in web servers would do. What are my choices for storing such data? The only method I know about are contexts in dbms_sessions: procedure set_ctx (value in varchar8) as begin dbms_session.set_context ( 'Test_Ctx', 'AccumulatedValue', value, NULL, 'ProfilerSessionId' ); end set_ctx; This works, but takes some 50 milliseconds(!) per update to the accumulated value. What I'm hoping for is a way to access/store an array of values in some Oracle memory using vanilla PLSQL statements, with access times typical of array accesses made to package-local arrays.

• Oracle T4CPreparedStatement memory leaks?

  A little background on the application that I am gonna talk about in the next few lines: XYZ is a data masking workbench eclipse RCP application: You give it a source table column, and a target table column, it would apply a trasformation (encryption/shuffling/etc) and copy the row data from source table to target table. Now, when I mask n tables at a time, n threads are launched by this app. Here is the issue: I have run into a production issue on first roll out of the above said app. Unfortunately, I don't have any logs to get to the root. However, I tried to run this app in test region and do a stress test. When I collected .hprof files and ran 'em through an analyzer (yourKit), I noticed that objects of oracle.jdbc.driver.T4CPreparedStatement was retaining heap. The analysis also tells me that one of my classes is holding a reference to this preparedstatement object and thereby, n threads have n such objects. T4CPreparedStatement seemed to have character arrays: lastBoundChars and bindChars each of size char[300000]. So, I researched a bit (google!), obtained ojdbc6.jar and tried decompiling T4CPreparedStatement. I see that T4CPreparedStatement extends OraclePreparedStatement, which dynamically manages array size of lastBoundChars and bindChars. So, my questions here are: Have you ever run into an issue like this? Do you know the significance of lastBoundChars / bindChars? I am new to profiling, so do you think I am not doing it correct? (I also ran the hprofs through MAT - and this was the main identified issue - so, I don't really think I could be wrong?) • Oracle output: cursor, file, or very long string?

  First, the setup: I have a table in an Oracle10g database with spatial columns. I need to be able to pass in a spatial reference so that I can reproject the geometry into an arbitrary coordinate system. Ultimately, I need to compress the results of this projection to a zip file and make it available for download through a Silverlight project. I would really appreciate ideas as to the best way to accomplish this. In the examples below, the SRID is the Spatial reference ID integer used to convert the geometric points into a new coordinate system. In particular, I can see a couple of possibilities. There are many more, but this is an idea of how I'm thinking: a) Pass SRID to a dynamic view -- perform projection, output a cursor -- send cursor to UTL_COMPRESS -- write output to a file (somehow) -- send URL to Silverlight app b) Use SRID to call Oracle function from Silverlight app -- perform projection, output a string -- build strings into a file -- compress file using SharpZipLib library in .NET -- send bytestream back to Silverlight app I've done the first two steps of b), and the conversion of 100 points took about 7 seconds, which is unacceptably slow. I'm hoping it would be faster doing the processing totally in Oracle. If anyone can see potential problems with either way of doing this, or can suggest a better way, it would be very helpful. • Hudson or Jenkins

  We have been using Hudson for quite a while and we loved it. Now many Hudson-developers have "left the building" to create their own: Jenkins (which means the project has been forked). As Hudson/Jenkins users, we are now worried whether we should opt for the original "big and stable" producer Oracle, or the "small and dynamic" newcomer Jenkins. EDIT: Our worries are mainly due to the fact that we did not really hear about this fork/split through any official ways. It looks like a guerilla action including the hijacking of logos and trademarks (after all, the copyright must be at Oracle, no? I'm not sure). So we're kinda missing professionalism here, as in well-organised course of action involving press relases, etc. Maybe we just missed that... What are good objective reasons to decide for either project in the future? Can we postpone that decision until later, or is that too risky?
