• How can I loop over a query for a specific number of times that may be greater than the result?

  I need to loop over a query exactly 12 times to complete rows in a form but rarely will the query return 12 rows. The cfquery endRow attribute doesn't force the loop to keep going if the result is < 12. If it did that would be ideal to use something like cfloop query="myQuery" endRow="12"... The 2 options that I have now are to skip the loop and write out all 12 rows but that results in a lot of duplicate code (there are 20 columns), or do a query of queries for each row which seems like a lot of wasted processing. Thanks for any ideas.

• MonoDevelop seems to hang (not unresponsive) when building csprojs

  Building a solution from Visual Studio in mono develop seems to have some issues. I'm hoping someone else has experienced this and has some suggestions. The actual dcms process goes pretty quickly, but in between projects it hangs after printing: Building: XXX.YYY.ZZZ (Debug) After a few minutes (been 10 so far on this current run), it jumps to: Performing main compilation... /Library/Frameworks/Mono.framework/Versions/2.10.1/bin/dmcs /noconfig "/... Build complete -- 0 errors, 0 warnings Building: XXX.YYY.ZZZ (Debug) Then hangs again for another few minutes. This is a sln file with 29 csproj projects in it that was originally created in Visual Studio 2010. I'm wondering if there is a better way to set this up - potentially a native MD file format?

  Hi, folks, I have a program that repeatedly solves large systems of linear equations using cholesky decomposition. Characterising is that I sometimes need to store the complete factorisation which can exceed about 20 GB of memory. The factorisation happens inside a library that I call. Furthermore, this matrix and the resulting factorisation changes quite frequently and as such the memory requirements as well. I am not the only person to use this compute-node. Therefore, is there a way to start the program under Linux and preallocate free memory for the process? Something like: $: prealloc -m 25G ./program

• Getting users latest tweet with Django

  I want to create a function which grabs every users latest tweet from a specific group. So, if a user is in the 'authors' group, I want to grab their latest tweet and then finally cache the result for the day so we only do the crazy leg work once. def latest_tweets(self): g = Group.objects.get(name='author') users = [] for u in g.user_set.all(): acc = u.get_profile().twitter_account users.append('http://twitter.com/statuses/user_timeline/'+acc+'.rss') return users Is where I am at so far, but I'm at a complete loose end as to how I parse the RSS to get there latest tweet. • caching in memory on server

  I want to write web app with client Javascript and back-end server (Python). Client needs data from server frequently in AJAX way. Data in DB, and expensive to load for each request. However, in desktop app I would just load data from DB once to memory and then access it. In web app - the server code runs each time for request so I can't do it (each run has to load from DB to memory again). How can this work? Can a single process run on server or do I have to use something different here? An example is like auto-complete here on stackoverflow for tags - how is it implemented in the server for fast caching/loading?

  Just wondering how you all manage your workload effectively when there's a lot of your plate? What do you do to break it down into bite-size chunks and how do you track progress of each task? Do you find TDD helps to focus your attention of getting areas of functionality complete before moving onto the next one? I quite often find myself getting a bit overwhelmed when I have an involving task on the go (even if it can be broken down into lots of small chunks), even though I know I'm more than capable of doing the work. We have a kind of agile approach Interested to hear how everyone manages things effectively.

• Tracking DB changes with Zend Framework?

  I am trying to decide between the Zend Framework and Ruby On Rails for my web application. If I go with ZF, I need the following: A way to incrementally track changes to my database, as with RoR's migration feature (001_something.sql, 002_something_else.sql). A place to put SQL for the next release of my software. At work in our custom PHP solution, we just have release.sql, which gets run, archived, and blanked out upon release. ZF has Zend_Db_Schema_Manager, which does the same thing, but I'm not interested as its not official, complete, or maintained. Is there an official mechanism that ZF provides for doing something similar to what I described? EDIT I ended up going with Rails. Nothing compares.

• Codeigniter: A nice straight forward tutorial on how to build a reset password/forgotten password?

  I've built a full sign up system with user account activation, login, validation, captcha etc. To complete this I now need to implement a forgot password/reset password feature.. I have created one function that generates a random password 8 characters, another method that takes that random password word and applies sha1 and hashing. Also one that takes that hashed password and stores it in a table in the database. I will keep these methods to one side as they might come in handy later on but for now I would like to know if anyone can point me to a nice tutorial for creating a password reset feature for my website. • MySQL Query, limit output display according/only to associated ID!

  So here's my situation. I have a books table and authors table. An author can have many books... In my authors page view, the user (logged in) can click an author in a tabled row and be directed to a page displaying the author's books (collected like this URI format: viewauthorbooks.php?author_id=23), very straight forward... However, in my query, I need to display the books for the author only, and not all books stored in the books table (as i currently have!) As I am a complete novice, I used the most simple query of: SELECT * FROM tasks_tb :)....this returns the books for me, but returns every single value (book) in the database, and not ones associated with the selected author. And when I click a different author the same books are displayed for them...I think everyone gets what I'm trying to achieve, I just don't know how to perform the query. I'm guessing that I need to start using more advanced query clauses like INNER JOIN etc. Anyone care to help me out :)

  When making an ajax call, when contentType is set to application/json instead of the default x-www-form-urlencoded, server side (in PHP) can't get the post parameters. in the following working example, if I set the contentType to "application/json" in the ajax request, PHP $_POST would be empty. why does this happen? It all works well... the only problem: the output from Log.i is cut-off... It's not the complete html page.   I have one class that declares an enumeration type as: public enum HOME_LOAN_TERMS {FIFTEEN_YEAR, THIRTY_YEAR}; Is this type usable in another class? I'm basically trying to complete a homework assignment where we have two types of loans, and one loanManager class. When I try to use the HOME_LOAN_TERMS.THIRTY_YEAR in my loanManager class that does not extend or implement the loan class, I get an error saying it 'cannot find symbol HOME_LOAN_TERMS.' So I did not know if my loanManager class needed to implement the two different loan classes. Thanks.

  How does one create a JAR file programmatically using java.util.jar.JarOutputStream? The JAR file produced by my program looks correct (it extracts fine) but when I try loading a library from it Java complains that it cannot find files which are clearly stored inside it. If I extract the JAR file and use Sun's jar command-line tool to re-compress it the resulting library works fine. In short, something is wrong with my JAR file. Please explain how to create a JAR file programmatically, complete with a manifest file.

  Hey guys, When using the Facebook Connect AS API, the user will be prompted to log in to FB in a pop up window. At this point I want to block interaction in my flash movie and wait for them to complete logging in (or potentially close/cancel and not log in). I have seen examples where people put up a Flex "Alert" box with some hint like "Press ok once you have logged into facebook", but I want to automatically listen for them logging in or canceling/closing the popup window without logging in. Is there an event I can listen for with flash? So far I am using ZERO javascript, but I guess I could add a little if it is needed for this... I definitely want to avoid having some sort of "Press OK" alert box, but instead have the flash application automatically react to the user logging in with the popup window.

For example he deducts 10% if he sees: mov ax, 0 instead of: xor ax,ax even if it's only used once. I am not a complete beginner in assembly programing but I'm not an optimization expert, so I need your help in something (might be a very stupid question but I'll ask anyway): if I need to set a register value to 1 or (-1) is it better to use: mov ax, 1 or do something like: xor ax,ax inc ax I really need a good grade, so I'm trying to get it as optimized as possible. I want to run the initial indexing (the index will be incremental after the initial run so there wont be need to index the whole directory again in future).   I have created one simple note taking application in jquery & php. Current functionality is like when user clicks save button it sends a ajax request with complete data to update it in db(mysql). All works well. But now I want to auto save only changed text while user typing. I don't want to send entire text to server again and again in text change event. It should send only text which has changed. For Ex: This is saved text. When user continues typing. This is saved text. Unsaved text.. It should be able to send only "Unsaved text.." to server to update in db. How can i implement this in jquery & server side script.? Any Idea..?

  hi i am comletly new to iis and asp.net i am trying to setup bugNET on a godaddy server. i created a virtual directory and once i tried to launch the site i get this error: Parser Error Message: It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level. This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS. here is complete detail of what i did. hosting: godaddy created virtual directory (child folder of root) - named: devbunk with these settings (anonymous access, directory browsing) that is all i can do to with iis on godaddy. the error tells me that i need to turn the virtual directory as an application. godaddy doesnt let me do that... how do i do it? btw, i have iis7 setup.

• Playground for Artificial Intelligence?

  In school, one of my professors had created a 3D game (not just an engine), where all the players were entirely AI-controlled, and it was our assignment to program the AI of a single player. We were basically provided an API to interact with the game world. Our AI implementations were then dropped into the game together, and we watched as our programs went to battle against each other. It was like robot soccer, but virtual, and with lots of big guns. I'm now looking for anything similar (and open source) to play with. (Preferably in Java, but I'm open to any language.) I'm not looking for a game engine, or a framework... I'm looking for a complete game that simply lacks AI code... preferably set up for this kind of exercise. Suggestions?

I understand that i need to load the .js file in the header of the HTML, but what do i call inside the body's DIV that will make the javascript file understand that i want it to load at that area? • Pure functional bottom up tree algorithm

  Say I wanted to write an algorithm working on an immutable tree data structure that has a list of leaves as its input. It needs to return a new tree with changes made to the old tree going upwards from those leaves. My problem is that there seems to be no way to do this purely functional without reconstructing the entire tree checking at leaves if they are in the list, because you always need to return a complete new tree as the result of an operation and you can't mutate the existing tree. Is this a basic problem in functional programming that only can be avoided by using a better suited algorithm or am I missing something?

  Hi... I've have a table view that consist of item list that depends on the item that were purchased using in app purchasing. My question was how can I reload the tableView when the purchasing was completed/(or when new item was added on my list). The response of the storekit takes time to complete. Are there anyways to tell the app that the purchasing was completed and new item was added on my list so that I can reload my tableView. At this time I reloading my table view by adding [myTableView reloadData] in viewWillAppear method. But what if the user was already viewing the tableView, I can't reload the tableView because the viewWillAppear had passed. thanks...
