• Why does Mac OS X Software Update not work when machine uses Active Directory?

  My company's IT department is mostly a Windows run operation and in order to become more secure, they are altering the way that the Macintosh computers login to our internal network so that they use Active Directory like their Windows counterparts. I have been given Administrative permission on my Mac and I am able to do most of what I used to be able to do in terms of authentication of software installations. However, there is a problem: the "Software Update" feature doesn't work. What happens is that when I try to get the Mac to perform its Software Updates from the Apple menu, the normal window appears listing what has to be updated; I am able to select what to update and click the "Update" button, but then nothing happens. It doesn't ask for authentication like it used to, the computer doesn't perform any download or installation (it does sometimes ask me to agree to license agreements for iTunes). I can download the updates individually and install them without any issues, but the auto-update fails. I'd rather use the Software Update menu item like I used to: it is much more convenient. Any suggestions on how I can fix this? EDIT Nov 19th, 2009, 10:09 EST: I have posted this question to the Apple Mac OS X Snow Leopard support forum. EDIT Nov 19th, 2009, 12:39 EST:Yes, the Terminal command "sudo softwareupdate --install --all" does work flawlessly. I want to avoid that as my co-workers are generally not comfortable on the Mac. I also tried Chealion's suggestion to delete "~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist" and "/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist", Software Update still fails. However, I did get diagnostic messages in the Console (below). I've deleted the MS Office Package Receipts and examined the suhelperd (Software Update Helper Daemon?); it appears that suhelperd is crashing and that explains why it doesn't work. I've submitted a bug report to Apple (radar://7408619). • Publisher 2007 files created on Vista 32 bit won't open on Vista 64 bit

  I created several documents in MS Office Publisher 2007 when I was using Windows Vista 32 bit version. I've recently upgraded to the 64 bit version of Vista and am now having trouble opening the files created on the previous Windows setup. When I try to open my documents, I get this warning: Publisher can not open the document. How do I go about resolving this?

  Hi We got a problem with NUnit 2.5.3: nunit-console.exe does not return after finishing all tests. The process hangs forever. Example: All tests succeed, but it keeps doing something. I don't want to download this dll from anywhere as I'm not sure if I can trust it. However it also says: "After research on the web I found that I have to create new AxMSTSCLib and MSTSCLib DLLs. So I did" How do I "create" this new AxMSTSCLib ? • Installing flex on Mac Parallels

  Hello folks, I am trying to install Flex 3 on my Windows 7 Virtual machine (parallels desktop) on my Mac Pro. The problem seems to be some sort of conflict between the copy of Flex 3 Builder installed on Mac OS X. The installer tries to install Flex in x:/Program Files/Adobe/Flex Builder 3/ but since Parallels Desktop connects all directories, there resides the Flex Builder 3 installation of MAC.   I have recently moved my solution from my main dev machine using vs2010 pro sp1 to a new machine. The setup is supposed to be the same except its failing to build. Its giving errors like c:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\Microsoft.Common.targets(1360,9): warning MSB3258: The primary reference "C:\rep\hms\trunk\ikassystemv3\ikasDAL\bin\Debug\ikasDAL.dll" could not be resolved because it has an indirect dependency on the .NET Framework assembly "mscorlib, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089" which has a higher version "4.0.0.0" than the version "2.0.0.0" in the current target framework. However all all the libraries in question are set to use the .net 2 framework and I need it this way or else it will break stuff that uses them. However for some reason it seems to think that somehow my .net 2 system libs are somehow referencing .net 4 stuff. • error when installing rubyzip in Unbuntu: requires >= 1.9.2

  I am using backtrack linux. Tried to upgrade BeEF project. Now it is missing some Ruby Gems and running bundle install gives the error: Gem::InstallError: rubyzip requires Ruby version >= 1.9.2 So I tried gem install rubyzip -v '1.0.0' and got the following: Error installing rubyzip: rubyzip requires Ruby version >= 1.9.2 but... the command ruby -v gives me: ruby 1.9.2dev (2010-07-02) Tried to update ruby to 1.9.3 so I'm not sure why rubyzip is giving that requirement and would be grateful for help. I edited the Gemfile and edited out the requirement for rubyzip and BeEF seems to work fine. I'd still like to know the answer. I checked which ruby version bundler was using and it is 1.9.2dev. I read other answers to similar issues and consensus is to use RVM but it doesn't answer the question of why I can't install rubyzip. Thanks a lot!

• UpdatePanel + ToolkitScriptManager work in FF but blows up in IE 6+

  I just upgraded my ASP.NET application from AjaxToolkit version 1.0 to version 3.5. The only code that I had to change as a result of the upgrade was to replace instances of ScriptManager with ToolKitScriptManager. UpdatePanels that used to work flawlessly in both FF and IE6+ now only work in FF. The specific problem in IE is twofold: PostBackTriggers don't perform any PostBack at all (i.e button clicks do nothing) AsyncPostBackTriggers do perform an async PostBack, but outside of a single hidden field (created by the ToolKitScriptManager itself) no ViewState is being sent back to the server for any controls. Needless to say, controls tend to fail in rather spectacular fashion when they can't access their ViewState during a PostBack. :) The only thing I can think of that would account for this only failing in IE6+, is that there is some malformed JavaScript getting piped down that FF is able to work around/ignore but that causes IE to self-destruct Downgrading to the 1.0 version of AjaxToolkit would probably fix this issue, but there are several key features in the 3.5 I need to leverage so this would be painful. • Injection of banners in my webbrowsers possible malware

  Recently I have started to suspect that I have some kind of virus on my computer. There are 3 symptoms: Banners are being displayed on pages that doesn't use commercials, for instance when viewing screen-shots on Steam. It is only displayed after the rest of the page has been loaded and seems to be injected into it. The whole page is replaced with a commercial with the option to skip the commercial. The page is replaced with a search window claiming that the page could not be found. I have tried to scan my computer with Antivir and Adaware but only found a couple of tracking cookies. I have run HijackThis but since this isn't really my area I haven't been able to discern what shouldn't be there except the line about zonealarm since I have uninstalled it. Is there anyone out there who is able to see if there is anything suspicious in the log-file at the end or has suggestions regarding programs that might be better to find the virus than Antivir and Adaware?   Hi, I create an add-on for the product Foo. There are different versions of Foo, namely version 1, 2, 3 and 4. These versions have a mostly compatible API, but not fully. I currently have 5 projects: DotNetCommon - here are the common methods which could be used if I create an add-on or something other than the Foo product. FooOne FooTwo FooThree FooFour The Foo*-projects contains the add-in for version 1-4 of Foo. There are a lot of duplicated files in the Foo*-projects, as there are a lot of things in the API which are identical for all versions of Foo. It would be nice to separate out everything which is common for all Foo-versions. Why not just create a common assembly for all versions of Foo called FooCommon? If I would put all classes which are common for all versions of Foo into a new library project, I would still have to choose which version of Foo the new FooCommon should reference. As said, they are not identical.

  I have setup 1 Domain and 1 Sub domain in IIS 7 - Set the bindings/ports etc When I browse to the subdomain url I get the website of the main domain. I have not configured an A record for the subdomain. Is this the problem? Its the same if I browe the non www version it rewrites or redirects to the www version.

• Embedded Linux or eCos ?

  One way to look at it - embedded Linux starts with desktop Linux & ditches the parts not needed for embedded systems (is this actually true?), whereas eCos is designed from the ground up for embedded systems. Now, assume an ARM processor, probably ARM 7 - does performance make a difference? Actually, we talking a very low load system, max 500 transactions a day. Any advantages of one over the other (or FreeRTOS, etc)? Stability, maturity, performance, development tools, anything else? All that I can think of is that if I am certain that I will never port to another o/s, then if I go with embedded Linux, I don't need an o/s abstraction layer to allow me to do unit testing on host (desktop Linux box). Any thoughts or comments? Thanks.

  I have an assembly with custom ASP.NET server controls that is used in several, mostly in-house, ASP.NET 2.0 applications. The server controls use simple modal popup messageboxes, which are currently implemented using the javascript alert and confirm functions. I want to release a new version of this assembly that uses a better solution for messageboxes, including support for Yes/No buttons. The appearance would be something like a simplified version of the Ajax Control Toolkit ModalPopup extender (sample here). My constraints are that this should be as easy as possible to integrate into existing ASP.NET 2.0 applications without introducing new dependencies: ideally just drop in a new version of the assembly, that contains all the javascript it needs as an embedded resource, and possibly a CSS file. Because of this constraint, I am not considering solutions I've seen that use jquery, or the ASP.NET Ajax Control Toolkit, which appears to require adding elements to pages that use the extenders (ScriptManagers and the like). Any recommendations?

  Hello I am running a W2K3 x64 server with IIS 7 + FastCGI + PHP 5.3 (x64) I have trouble geting the SQL for php driver to work. It seems it doesn't get loaded, but no error is thrown. I've doublechedked the php.ini a multitude of times and I'm pretty sure I use the right version of the sql for php driver (version 1.1 CTP) and sql native client x64 is installed.
