  Wondering if anyone know how to automatically send the user an email after he/she fills out a form. I have the form emailed to me after it gets submitted, but I can't figure out how to capture the user's email from the form field and have it send it to them automatically???   The framework I'm using on my project follows the MVC Pattern. I"M building JSON feeds and need to structure them in a different way then what the system gives me by default from the ORM. Where should I be handling the task of mangling and shaping my data that I'll serve up, in the model, view or controller? Right now I'm doing it in my controller, then passing that data to the view. I can see this fitting better under the Model or the View but not sure which one.

  I've spent hours reading up about AppDomains, but I'm not sure they work quite like I'm hoping. If I have two classes, Foo in AppDomain #1, Bar in AppDomain #2: App Domain #1 is the application. App Domain #2 is something like a plugin, and can be loaded and unloaded dynamically. AppDomain #2 wants to create Foo and use it. Foo uses lots of classes in AppDomain #1 internally. I don't want AppDomain #2 using object foo with reflection, I want it to use Foo foo, with all the static typing and compiled speed that goes with it. Can this be done considering that AppDomain #1, containing Foo, is never unloaded? If so, does any remoting take place here when using Foo? When I unload AppDomain #2, the type Foo is destroyed?

  I have long time task in controller action. I use delayed job for it. (Also in heroku it is good practice for perfomance - dyno must work for small time in each request) But my client need result of it work and users can wait on that task. It is more clear: no any addition models or records in it, simple view and js... I think about such way: On client run AJAX with very long timeout (5 min for example) Client make request to server as usual On controller in action1 def start_work (with delay work setup) i need NO any response to client After work performs (delay job finished) i need run new action2 with response to client Client recieve response after about 1-5 min It is possible?

• How to call javascript function when url variable is sent

  Hello, heres basically what I need to get done. I have a jsp page which allows me to add/modify/delete an item. The items are stored in a database which I have controller classes to access(dont worry bout that part) When an item gets selected and deleted the id of the item gets sent to the controller to be processed. The item will not always be deleted if their is a foreign key constraint so I send either a delete=true or delete=false through url back to the jsp page. I would like to have it so a javascript function gets called displaying an alert saying the item was deleted or the item was not deleted. can someone please tell me the best way to do this? thank you

• Interesting or unique types encountered?

  What is the most strange or unique type you have seen in a programming language? I was thinking the other day about a "random variable", ie whenever it is evaluated it yields a random value from some domain. It would require some runtime trickery. Also I bet there can be some interesting mapping of regular expressions into a type system. It does not necessarily have to be a built in or primitive type, but some random class that implements a domain specific type won't really be interesting just unique.

  I'm working on a little MVC framework and I'm wondering what the "best way" is to structure things so secure pages/controllers always ensure the user is logged in (and thus automatically redirects to a login page--or elsewhere--if not). Obviously, there are a lot of ways to do it, but I'm wondering what solution(s) are the most common or are considered the best practice. Some ideas I had: Explicitly call user->isLoggedIn() at the beginning of your controller action method? (Seems far too easy to forget and leave an important page unsecure on accident) Make your controller extend a secureController that always checks for login in the constructor? Do this check in the model when secure information is requested? (Seems like redundant calls would be made) Something else entirely? Note: I'm working in PHP, though the question is not language-dependent.

It's pasted below and should be simplified enough for those who aren't familiar with Zend Framework to understand what I'm doing. My question is: Are these codes correct for their respective responses, and in the case of "access denied" do I use a 401 or 403? • Grails unit testing and bootstrap

  I wrote an unit test for a controller. I have a Bootstrap file which alter the metaclass of domain classes by adding a method asPublicMap(). I use this method in the controller to return domain classes as json but only some selected public fields. My unit test failed because of MissingMethodException for asPublicMap(). As I understood, bootstrap classes are not loaded for unit tests, only for integration tests. That's why I got this error. My question is : Is there another place to put metaclass manipulation in order to take them into account during unit tests ?

• jQuery .ajax request failing

Can anyone help? Thanks! EDIT: sorry about the my-computer domain. this stackoverflow submission won't let me input localhost, so I put in an arbitrary domain instead. I've tried firebug, but had no luck in getting the json back.

• Is there an existing tool for jsonp like fetching of xml in jquery?

  Hi, For a web service I'm developing I would like my embedded code (on the client's site) to fetch an xml file from my sever script which resides on my domain. As this is a cross-domain request I figured to use jsonp as it seems the de facto standard for such apis. However, for my application it would be easier for me to use xml instead of json. Now, I could of course convert my xml to json on the server and then back again to xml in the client's site javascript, but that seems unnecessarily cumbersome. What I really need is and xmlp solution, xml with padding. I tired googling but couldn't find a jquery plug-in that does that. Anyone knows a simple solution?

• Identifying if a user is in the local administrators group

  My Problem I'm using PInvoked Windows API functions to verify if a user is part of the local administrators group. I'm utilizing GetCurrentProcess, OpenProcessToken, GetTokenInformationand LookupAccountSid to verify if the user is a local admin. GetTokenInformation returns a TOKEN_GROUPS struct with an array of SID_AND_ATTRIBUTES structs. I iterate over the collection and compare the user names returned by LookupAccountSid. My problem is that, locally (or more generally on our in-house domain), this works as expected. The builtin\Administrators is located within the group membership of the current process token and my method returns true. On another domain of another developer the function returns false. The LookupAccountSid functions properly for the first 2 iterations of the TOKEN_GROUPS struct, returning None and Everyone, and then craps out complaining that "A Parameter is incorrect." What would cause only two groups to work correctly? The TOKEN_GROUPS struct indicates that there are 14 groups. I'm assuming it's the SID that is invalid. Everything that I have PInvoked I have taken from an example on the PInvoke website. The only difference is that with the LookupAccountSid I have changed the Sid parameter from a byte[] to a IntPtr because SID_AND_ATTRIBUTESis also defined with an IntPtr. Is this ok since LookupAccountSid is defined with a PSID?   Hi everybody, How do you handle replacing/adding/removing memcached nodes in your production applications? I will have a number of applications that are cloned and customized due to each customers need running on one and same webserver, so i'll guess that there will be a day when some of the nodes will be changed. Here's how memcached is populated by normal: $m = new Memcached(); $servers = array( array('mem1.domain.com', 11211, 33), array('mem2.domain.com', 11211, 67) ); $m->addServers($servers); My initial idea, is to make the $servers array to be populated from the database, also cached, but file-based, done once a day or something, with the option to force an update on next run of the function that holds the $addservers call. However, I am guessing that this might add some additional overhead since disks are quite slow storage... What do you think?

• Need url's to be non secure when moving away from a secured link (without hardcoded url's in html)?

  I have an asp.net site. It has an order form which is accessible at https://secure.example.com/order.aspx. The links on the site do not include the domain name. So for example the home page is 'default.aspx'. The issue is that if I click on a link like the home page from the secure page, the url becomes https://secure.example.com/default.aspx instead of http://www.example.com/default.aspx. What's a good way to handle this? The scheme should automatically work using any domain name based on where it's launched from. So if the site is launched from 'localhost', moving away from the secured page, the url's should be http://localhost/... The navigation links are in a master page.

• How do I use a named_scope to filter records in my model

  I have a model "Product" with a "description" field. Now I want to have a link in the index page that when clicked will show all products where the description is blank (empty). In the model I have defined a named_scope like this named_scope :no_description, :conditions => { :description => "" } I have checked that the named_scope works by calling Product.no_description.count on the console. As far as I know, the controller is then supposed to handle the filter request from the link on the "index" action but be able to distinguish it from the default which is view all products. def index @products = Product.all ... My problem is getting the controller handle the different request, what route to setup for the link on the view and the actual link on the view. Hope I explained my problem.

• Access is denied trying to access a sMetabasePath on a SMTP Server from a different Web Server

  I have written a C# dot net application that updates the SMTP relay restriction list in IIS 6. Running the application locally works great and I can add/remove IPs/DNS from the relay restriction list without any problem. Now I need to do the same for a SMTP server that is not running on the same webserver that I have the application running. So I have the web application on webserver A and the SMTP server on webserver/smtp server B. My app pool is running under a domain user and I have given the same user rights to the SMTP server under the security tab in the SMTP Virtual Server property window. I thought I could simply change the sMetabasePath from "IIS://localhost/smtpsvc/1" to "IIS://10.171.243.134/smtpsvc/1" and everything would just work but I get an "Access is denied" error. So I must have to do something else to get this to work. I even gave the domain user full admin rights on the SMTP server to no avail. Any ideas

I can connect though this link: @Html.ActionLink("Print", "Print", new { id = Model.SalesContractId}) But i Don't want a link, i want my button on my dialog to do it.   hi all, I have a db with users that have all this record . I would like to do a query on a data like CN=aaa, OU=Domain,OU=User, OU=bbbbbb,OU=Department, OU=cccc, OU=AUTO, DC=dddddd, DC=com and I need to group all users by the same ou=department. How can I do the select with the substring to search a department?? Do you know what might be causing this?

The controller receives this correctly and then at the end, makes a call to render a separate view render "data" This view contains a script snippet that needs to run in order to update some elements of my original view. For some reason, this script snippet is just not running. I'm very confused. When I use a regular link with data-remote="true", then the whole process works perfectly. However, when I make an AJAX call, it fails. What's going on?? Thanks! Ringo
