  Yeeeep! Another series looms ... this one could stretch out a bit and more options become available. Ever needed to generate something similar to these? Beyond what BIP can provide today but there are a few options; one from Oracle and R, now out in the wild and another out there from JFreeChart, open source and therefore almost free. Of course Google is ever present and they have been extending their chart support. I blogged the How for Google charts a while back here. Different ways to integrate but they can all help to close the charting gap for you.

• UbuntuGNOME 13.10 - Problem: Keyboard layout: Control L and Caps Lock swapped

  I have a problem in UbuntuGNOME 13.10 which I didn't had in prior releases: I did a clean install and I don't know if it was already there or if I may have changed something, but my "Control L" and "Caps Lock" keys are swapped. How to swap them back?   I'm on Ubuntu 11.04 (upgraded from 10.10) and suffering really high bootup times. It got so annoying, that I decided to dive into bootchart analysis myself. Therefore I installed bootchart and restarted the system which generated this chart. However, I'm not really experienced in reading such stuff. What causes the long bootup sequence? • Recent EC Meetings - RIM forfeits EC seat

  Materials and minutes from the JCP EC Face-to-Face Meeting, held September 2012 in Prague, are now available on the EC Meeting Summaries page.  Topics included JCP.Next, a JCP 2.8 progress report, Inactive JSRs, and two Spec Lead presentations. In October 2011, new EC Standing Rules went into effect. The Rules include the following: "Missing five meetings in a row, or missing more than two-thirds of all meetings in any consecutive twelve-month period, results in loss of EC membership."  Last week, the JCP EC met for their October EC teleconference meeting.  RIM missed this meeting, and has now missed five meetings in a row (see the attendance chart); therefore, RIM has forfeited their EC membership. Results from the 2012 EC Elections will be available on 30 October.  The new merged EC will go into effect on 12 November.

• Why don't my Google Analytics custom segmentation visit numbers match up?

  I have three main areas of my site and want to track total usage as well as breakdowns of the three parts. I am trying to segment the "type" of use on each page using a custom variable as such: ['_setCustomVar',1,'Visitor Type','Unknown',1] Visitor type can be one of three values: "Unknown", "Reader" or "publisher". Every page has this value set. Now when I look at my analytics chart and chose all three segments, the individual values do not match the sum. I've double checked the pages to make sure the custom var is there.

• Sending files with iChat doesnt work in Snow Leopard

  My girlfriend and I often sit in the lounge looking at stuff online and sending it to each other to look at. So sometimes we drag images into an iChat and it will appear in the other persons iChat window. The ability to do this seems to have broken with the upgrade to 10.6, and the issue persists over both of our laptops and my iMac. The following is a scheenshot of what happens. The image that appears in my window is from me dragging it in there, but the other person cannot see it, and the next bubble is the other person attempting to send me an image, but I only ever see that little white circle for a while then it dissapears. Is this broken for everyone?

• VMWare Fusion cannot connect to the NAT connection on my Mac

  I have been using VMWare Fusion on my Mac to check out my websites on localhost. Now I can't connect anymore with the NAT connection. There seems to be a problem with my IP address or Mac address? I have no idea what causes this, it was working fine before!? In the XP (SP2) VM, in the taskbar I see the Local Area Connection with the yellow warning icon. The bubble says: "This connection has limited or no connectivity. You might not be aisle to access the Internet or some network resources. For more information, click this message." Doing that opens up the Local Area Connection Status panel. In the Support tab, when I click the repair button I get following message: "Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed: Renewing IP address." Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• What may be the reason of "hide inactive icons" option of WinXP systray to stop working?

  Yesterday I've set up Defraggler (I've used it before many times) to defragment my hard drives and turn off my laptop when it finishes. I haven§t installed/uninstalled/reconfigured anything that day. When I've then turned the laptop on, I've got taskbar's "quick launch" area disappeared and all and every system tray (notification area) icons displayed (and the arrow-in-a-bubble usually folding to hide most of them gone). I've then successfully turned on "show quick launch" option, but "hide inactive icons" was already on. I've turned it off, applied, closed "taskbar and start menu properties", then opened again to turn the option back on, applied, restarted, nothing changes. Now I have to have all the system tray icons always displayed. Any ideas what may the reason be and how to fix? The OS is Windows XP Pro SP3 with all the updates.

• Best ways to move a server room and 80 desktops to a new building

  Need to plan the best way to physically move a server room (12 IBM x3400 towers) and all associated networking equipment to a new building. Everything is going, comms (80 strong call centre operation), desktops(80-90) the whole lot and has to be done efficiently over a weekend. What I cant seem to find are the best ways to move equipment, i.e is it best to remove hard drives and pack them separetely, do I pack the chassis' with foam and/or surround them in bubble wrap? Are there specific products designed to move computer equipment and where would I find these. The internet has failed me so far, please help

• How do I change the colors used in MS Word 2007 track changes?

  I'm reviewing a document in MS Word 2007, and when I add comments, the bubble has red text on a slightly lighter red background. This is pretty hard to read. The Track Changes Options dialog isn't of much help, I can change the background color for Comments, and it's slightly more readable. But I know that Word assigns a color to each user who reviews the document, I'd like to be able to change mine to a different one, and still have it work properly when I pass the document on to others. MS help is useless.

• Friday Fun: Omega Crisis

  Friday is here once again and it’s time to play a fun flash game on company time. Today we take a look at the space shooter Omega Crisis. Omega Crisis At the start of the game you’re given the basic story of the game, defending the space outpost, and instructions on how to play. Controls are easy, just target the enemy and use the left mouse button to fire. After each level you’re shown the results and how many Tech Points you’ve earned. The more Tech Points you earn, you have a better chance of upgrading your weapons and base defense before the next level.   You can also go into Manage Mode by hitting the Space bar, and select gunners and other types of weapons to help defend the outpost. Choose your mission from the timeline after successfully completing a mission. You can also use A,W,D,S to move around the map and see exactly where the enemy ships are coming from. This makes it easier to destroy them before they get too close to your base. This game is a lot of fun and is similar to different “Desktop Defense” type games. If you’re looking for a fun way to waste the afternoon, and not look at TPS reports, Omega Crisis can get you though until the whistle blows. • Embedding BIP just got easier!

  To make up for yesterday's documentation faux pas, when I referenced Kan's blog as a source for the debug feature over Leslie's fine official documentation that had come out some time before Kan's blog. Apologies again Leslie! I noticed another new feature that I was unaware of in the New Features guide for 10.1.3.4.1. The ability to remove the BI Publisher header from the user interface so you can get this: instead of this. Useful? If you wanted to host BIP inside another application such as a portal or custom app, you can make the BIP UI app look much more integrated. By default you still get our 'blue' look and feel' but I have documented else where how you can change that. For instance, now you can have BIP hosted inside a BIEE instance and provide access to all the reports a user might wish to run with very little effort rather than picking and choosing what to bubble up to the dashboard. How do you do it? Get on over to the New Features guide and find out, there are some other goodies there too. Note to self, RTFM!

If you don’t achieve the objectives, you will get the Demolition Error screen and can replay the level. After you’ve received enough money, you’ll get a message between missions telling you there is enough money to buy items in the shop. You can get enhanced destructive devices such as nitroglycerin, a wrecking ball, call in an air strike and more… If you’re sick of the pointy haired boss dragging you down all week, pretend the structures are the office building and destroy away.
