  • How to get UIScrollView contentOffset during an animation

    I am trying to get the contentOffset property of a UIScrollView in the middle of a setContentOffset animation. Note I am not using the animated property of the method, but instead enclosing the setContentOffset operation within a UIView animation block so I can have finer control. When I try to read the value of contentOffset in the middle of the animation, it returns the final value rather than the value at that moment. I know that you can use the presentationLayer to get the current layer, but is there any way you can get the current offset in the middle of an animation?

  • 3rd party data - Store in Data Warehouse or Primary database?

    This is mostly a data warehouse philosophy question. My project involves an Oracle forms application, and a Teradata Data Warehouse for reporting and ad-hoc purposes. In addition to the primary data created by the users of our application, we also require data from various other sources. Currently, this 3rd party data comes via FTPd flat files directly to our Data Warehouse. To access the data, our users must use a series of custom BusinessObjects reports. My question is, would it make more sense for this data to be sent to our source Oracle system instead? Is it ever appropriate for a Data Warehouse to be the point of origin for users to access raw data? In short, is it more important that the operational database contain only the data created by your project, or that the data warehouse remain dedicated solely to reporting and analysis?

  • Is NSManagedObjectContext autosaved or am I looking at NSFetchedResultsController's cache?

    I'm developing an iPhone app where I use a NSFetchedResultsController in the main table view controller. I create it like this in the viewDidload of the main table view controller: NSSortDescriptor *sortDescriptorDate = [[NSSortDescriptor alloc] initWithKey:@"date" ascending:YES]; NSSortDescriptor *sortDescriptorTime = [[NSSortDescriptor alloc] initWithKey:@"start" ascending:YES]; NSArray *sortDescriptors = [[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects:sortDescriptorDate,sortDescriptorTime, nil]; [fetchRequest setSortDescriptors:sortDescriptors]; [sortDescriptorDate release]; [sortDescriptorTime release]; [sortDescriptors release]; controller = [[NSFetchedResultsController alloc] initWithFetchRequest:fetchRequest managedObjectContext:context sectionNameKeyPath:@"date" cacheName:nil]; [fetchRequest release]; NSError *error; BOOL success = [controller performFetch:&error]; Then, in a subsequent view, I create a new object on the context: TestObject *testObject = [NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:@"TestObject" inManagedObjectContext:context]; The TestObject has several related object which I create in the same way and add to the testObject using the provided add...Objects methods. Then, if before saving the context, I press cancel and go back to the main table view, nothing is shown as expected. However, if I restart the app, the object I created on the context shows in the main table view. How come? At first, I thought it was because the NSFetchedResultsController was reading from the cache, but as you can see I set this to nil just to test. Also, [context hasChanges] returns true after I restart. What am I missing here?

  • Can we use union of two sqlite databases with same tables for Core Data?

    Hi All, I have an iPhone Core Data app with a pre-populated sqlite "baseline" database. Can I add a second smaller sqlite database with the same tables as my pre-populated "baseline" database but with additional / complementary data such that Core Data will happily union the data from both databases and, ultimately, present to me as if it was all a single data source? Idea that I had is: 1) the "baseline" database never changes. 2) I can download the smaller "complementary" sqlite database for additional data as and when I need to (I'm assuming downloading sqlite database is allowed, please comment if otherwise). 3) Core Data is then able to union data from 1 & 2. I can then reference this unified data by calling my defined Core Data managed object model. Hope this makes sense. Thanks in advance.

  • Magento, NGINX, PHP-FPM, APC, MEMCACHED, 16gb Ram CentOS, Spiking PHP-FPM to 100% CPU

    I have been trying to resolve my issue of spiking cpu caused by php-fpm processes. I've reduced the php-fpm config settings to: pm = ondemand pm.max_children = 12 pm.start_servers = 2 pm.min_spare_servers = 2 pm.max_spare_servers = 10 pm.max_requests = 500 php_admin_value[memory_limit] = 128M Problem still exists. I'm running a Joomla main site (which is having no problems) and a Magento store in a sub-directory. My server is a Linux CentOS, running NGINX, APC, Memcached, Full Page Cache and php-fpm. My server has 8 cores and 16gb dedicated ram. My host has shut down my server several times the past week because my php-fpm processes are consuming the entire network. A lot of the individual php-fpm processes are getting over 50% cpu. I've hired several "professionals" and none of them was able to help me, so now broke and stumped, I'm turning to you guys for help. So any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. table_cache=4096 I just noticed that someone changed my innodb_buffer_pool_size to 512M. Shouldn't this be set to 80% of available ram? So I have 16gb ram so it should be set at 12G; however, I set it at 10G. What do you think? I made that change and restart everything. Php-fpm is still spiking cpu.   • Defining Discovery: Core Concepts

    Discovery tools have had a referencable working definition since at least 2001, when Ben Shneiderman published 'Inventing Discovery Tools: Combining Information Visualization with Data Mining'.  Dr. Shneiderman suggested the combination of the two distinct fields of data mining and information visualization could manifest as new category of tools for discovery, an understanding that remains essentially unaltered over ten years later.  An industry analyst report titled Visual Discovery Tools: Market Segmentation and Product Positioning from March of this year, for example, reads, "Visual discovery tools are designed for visual data exploration, analysis and lightweight data mining." Tools should follow from the activities people undertake (a foundational tenet of activity centered design), however, and Dr. Shneiderman does not in fact describe or define discovery activity or capability. As I read it, discovery is assumed to be the implied sum of the separate fields of visualization and data mining as they were then understood.  As a working definition that catalyzes a field of product prototyping, it's adequate in the short term.  In the long term, it makes the boundaries of discovery both derived and temporary, and leaves a substantial gap in the landscape of core concepts around discovery, making consensus on the nature of most aspects of discovery difficult or impossible to reach.  I think this definitional gap is a major reason that discovery is still an ambiguous product landscape. To help close that gap, I'm suggesting a few definitions of four core aspects of discovery.  These come out of our sustained research into discovery needs and practices, and have the goal of clarifying the relationship between discvoery and other analytical categories.  They are suggested, but should be internally coherent and consistent.   Discovery activity is: "Purposeful sense making activity that intends to arrive at new insights and understanding through exploration and analysis (and for these we have specific defintions as well) of all types and sources of data." Discovery capability is: "The ability of people and organizations to purposefully realize valuable insights that address the full spectrum of business questions and problems by engaging effectively with all types and sources of data." Discovery tools: "Enhance individual and organizational ability to realize novel insights by augmenting and accelerating human sense making to allow engagement with all types of data at all useful scales." Discovery environments: "Enable organizations to undertake effective discovery efforts for all business purposes and perspectives, in an empirical and cooperative fashion." Note: applicability to a world of Big data is assumed - thus the refs to all scales / types / sources - rather than stated explicitly.  I like that Big Data doesn't have to be written into this core set of definitions, b/c I think it's a transitional label - the new version of Web 2.0 - and goes away over time.   • Used HDD/ran DiskSmartView/40,000 Power-on-hours?? should i trust it w/ my data, or take it back and bitch?

    I just bought a used hard drive from a University Surplus Store. Decided to run DiskSmartView to make sure it wasn't ready to fail. 40,000 power-on-hours I don't know if I feel like trusting my data to something that used. I really dont know if thats unreasonably old, but when i compare it to the POH reading i get when testing my other hdds its more than 3x older (my others have 2110 hours, 6150 hours, etc.. It's a Western Digital, so that gives me a little bit of hope(WDC WD4000KD-00NAB0). I could sure use someone else's opinion here. Thanks, DAVE

  • JDK bug migration: components and subcomponents

    One subtask of the JDK migration from the legacy bug tracking system to JIRA was reclassifying bugs from a three-level taxonomy in the legacy system, (product, category, subcategory), to a fundamentally two-level scheme in our customized JIRA instance, (component, subcomponent). In the JDK JIRA system, there is technically a third project-level classification, but by design a large majority of JDK-related bugs were migrated into a single "JDK" project. In the end, over 450 legacy subcategories were simplified into about 120 subcomponents in JIRA. The 120 subcomponents are distributed among 17 components. A rule of thumb used was that a subcategory had to have at least 50 bugs in it for it to be retained. Below is a listing the component / subcomponent classification of the JDK JIRA project along with some notes and guidance on which OpenJDK email addresses cover different areas. Eventually, a separate incidents project to host new issues filed at bugs.sun.com will use a slightly simplified version of this scheme. The preponderance of bugs and subcomponents for the JDK are in library-related areas, with components named foo-libs and subcomponents primarily named after packages. While there was an overall condensation of subcomponents in the migration, in some cases long-standing informal divisions in core libraries based on naming conventions in the description were promoted to formal subcomponents. For example, hundreds of bugs in the java.util subcomponent whose descriptions started with "(coll)" were moved into java.util:collections.   • How do I do a swing migration of Exchange 2007?

    As per my previous question, I have an Exchange 2007 box which is also a DC. Since I can demote it while Exchange is installed, I need to a swing migration. Does anyone have any articles, tips or experiences to share on this? The last time I did a swing it was with Exchange 2003 and even that is a little rusty in my head. The setup is a single Exchange 2007 Hub/Edge/Mailbox/CAS server. Its currently on Windows Server 2008, I can migrate it to the same OS, or I can go to 2008 R2, I'm not really picky on that. We're running OWA/ActiveSync/POP3(S)/IMAP(S) for client access. I already have another fully functional DC/GC/DNS box in the same site and clients in the site are already using that for DNS. It's also the preferred site bridgehead for AD replication. Any tips?

  • JDK bug migration milestone: JIRA now the system of record

    I'm pleased to announce the OpenJDK bug database migration project has reached a significant milestone: the JDK has switched from the legacy Sun "bugtraq" system to a new internal JIRA instance as the system of record for our bug tracking. This completes the initial phase of the previously described plan of getting OpenJDK onto an externally visible and writable bug tracker. The identities contained in the current system include recognized OpenJDK contributors. The bug migration effort to date has been sizable in multiple dimensions. There are around 140,000 distinct issues imported into the JDK project of the JIRA instance, nearly 165,000 if backport issues to track multiple-release information are included. Separately, the Code Tools OpenJDK project has its own JIRA project populated with several thousands existing bugs. Once the OpenJDK JIRA instance is externalized, approved OpenJDK projects will be able to request the creation of a JIRA project for issue tracking. There are many differences in the schema used to model bugs between the legacy bug system and the schema for the new JIRA projects. We've favored simplifications to the existing system where possible and, after much discussion, we've settled on five main states for the OpenJDK JIRA projects: New Open In progress Resolved Closed The Open and In-progress states can have a substate Understanding field set to track whether the issues has its "Cause Known" or "Fix understood". In the closed state, a Verification field can indicate whether a fix has been verified, unverified, or if the fix has failed. At the moment, there will be very little externally visible difference between JIRA for OpenJDK and the legacy system it replaces. One difference is that bug numbers for newly filed issues in the JIRA JDK project will be 8000000 and above. If you are working with JDK Hg repositories, update any local copies of jcheck to the latest version which recognizes this expanded bug range. (The bug numbers of existing issues have been preserved on the import into JIRA). Relatively soon, we plan for the pages published on bugs.sun.com to be generated from information in JIRA rather than in the legacy system. When this occurs, there will be some differences in the page display and the terminology used will be revised to reflect JIRA usage, such as referring to the "component/subcomponent" of an issue rather than its "category". The exact timing of this transition will be announced when it is known. We don't currently have a firm timeline for externalization of the JIRA system. Updates will be provided as they become available. However, that is unlikely to happen before JavaOne next week!

I am assuming that Model and ViewModel would not be part of the name because the selection data is but a portion of the Model or ViewModel.   • What does the "Max Memory Size" on the new Intel Core i3 / i5 / i7 CPU's mean?

    I just noticed in the specs of the new Intel Core i-series processors that there is a "Max Memory Size" that is usually pretty small -- anywhere from 8GB to 24GB. See here: http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=41316 Core 2-based motherboards were just starting to roll out support for 32GB and greater memory sizes. Anyone have any idea what the Max Memory Size indicates? Is this the total limitation of the on-chip memory controller? Limitation per channel? Limitation per stick (e.g. density??)? Thinking of building a decent machine that needs lots of RAM, so I'm looking at the i7 860.

  • Migrate Palm m500 data into MS Office Outlook

    I have a rather old Palm m500 PDA that I have been considering replacing with a Blackberry, as it has been slowly starting to fail. I already have decided on which model I want, but the problem is that the information in Palm Desktop 4 (what of it is actually exportable) is in a legacy database format that can't be migrated to MS Office Outlook 2007. Is there a converter that will spit out an Outlook-importable file, or is there a free Windows PIM that happens to support importing/exporting both formats?
