• Unity does not display properly [closed]

  Ubuntu Unity on the Ubuntu netbook edition installs without a problem but when I log in though, where the panels are, there is just blank area with a shadow effect style thing on it. I can open apps but the Window buttons and the global menu are not visable. Does this mean that I cannot use Unity. I'm running it through Wubi on a Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop. My total ammount of graphics memory is 831MB My dedicated memory is 128MB. The odd thing is is that Windows Aero displays without a problem so why is there a problem with Unity Hope this helps Ben

• Why do fonts sometimes look "fat" on Mac OS X?

  Sometimes when resuming from suspend, the fonts in Mac OS X look "fatter" than normal. Unfortunately right now I can't get my Macbook Pro to exhibit the "normal" behavior for comparison, it has been abnormal yesterday and today. If I can get screenshots of what I think is 'normal', I'll add them. "Fixing" this has been random. I use an external monitor, and sometimes unplugging it and plugging back in, or even turning it off and back on has worked. Sometimes with the display attached (or not) detecting displays works. Sometimes logging out or rebooting entirely is what it takes. Displays used: Macbook Pro 15" built-in display Dell 27" LCD (2009 model) Software where I see this happen, at least most noticably: Firefox (screenshots below) iTerm Things MacIrssi (screenshots below) I am using Mac OS X 10.5.8. • How display path ball will bounce?

  I'm trying to figure out a way to show the path a ball will travel, so that the player can line up a shot before they fire the ball. I can't think of a way to calculate this path in advance and show it to the player, especially if it involves collision detection. At first I thought I would run the game at a super high speed for one update, plot the path with some dotted lines where the ball bounced, and then in the next frame hide the 'tracer' ball. This seems to have two issues - Calculating collision detection without actually updating the frames and collision detection getting less reliable at high speeds. If they were straight lines I think I could figure this out in a while loop, but trying to take into account the speed of the ball, the curve of the path, the reflecting from other objects..it all seems a bit much. I'm not looking for any code and this isn't a platform specific question, more just help trying to figure out conceptually how this would work. Can this be done? Are there techniques to achieve this?

• Windows no longer display with proprietary ATI Catalyst drivers

  I recently started having an issue that opening any application would would show nothing on screen. At the time I noticed it I assumed it was an incompatibility between the new 14 update so reinstalled the old 13.10 iso I used originally. I have now tried a range of ATI drivers including the latest and the exact file I installed the first time with the same results. I can only assume then that it is one of the updates applied at some point, but have no idea which one or how I would go about rolling these back or getting earlier versions of packages. Is anyone else getting this issue? The system has 2 ati 6850s installed, not in crossfire. The open source drivers work fine but I need the ATI ones for cgminer to work.

• Cannot set video resolution above 640x480 after installing Windows XP SP2

  I've installed Windows XP SP2 on a computer (there was not SP at all). Now the display settings are set back to 640x480 and 4 bits colors. And I can't change it, it's the only option in Settings tab of the Display dialog of Windows. The screen look awful now, how can I solve this problem? UPDATE: Seems to be a problem with the video driver (thanks @Karan and @Hennes).   I am trying to draw a semi transparent rectangle and I keep getting an error when setting the textures data.   Hi all! We are here again to intorduce you some of our new NetBeans 7.3 features. Today we'll show you some another Twig improvements. So let's start! Code Templates First feature is about Code Templates. We added some basic templates to improve your Editor experience. You will be really fast with it! If someone don't know what Code Templates are, they are piece of code (snippet) which is inserted into editor after typing its abbreviation and pressing Tab key (or another one which you define in Tools -> Options -> Editor -> Code Templates -> Expand Template on) to epxand it. All default Twig Code Templates can be found in Tools -> Options -> Editor -> Code Templates -> Twig Markup. You can add your custom templates there as well. Note: Twig Markup code templates have to be expanded inside Twig delimiters (i.e. { and }). If you try to expand them outside of delimiters, it will not work, because then you are in HTML context. If you want to add a template which will contain Twig delimiter too, you have to add it directly into Tools -> Options -> Editor -> Code Templates -> HTML/XHTML. Don't add them into Twig File, it will not work. Interpolation Coloring The second, minor, feature is, that we know how to colorize Twig Interpolation. It's a small feature, but usefull :-) And that's all for today and as usual, please test it and if you find something strange, don't hesitate to file a new issue (product php, component Twig). • Display launcher over a GNOME panel (instead of under)

  I've set up my desktop so that I have a classic style gnome-panel at the bottom to show my active applications with a main menu button on the side. The problem is that the panel stretches across the whole width of the screen and over the launcher, making it difficult to access the icons at the bottom. I could untick the expand option in the panel's properties, but there's no way to resize it so it takes up the rest of the right part of the screen, which is what I want. And if enough applications are open it stretches all the way anyway. I don't want to auto-hide it either. What I'd like to do is make the launcher go over the top of the panel so I can fully access both the launcher and the panel at the same time. If it's possible, how do I do this?

• Microsoft CA certificate templates expires sooner than expected

  The certificates my Microsoft CA is generating do not match the time period indicated in the template used. How can I resolve this? I recently created a new certificate template for use on my Linux boxes on my Microsoft CA (2008 R2 Enterprise). This template is approved for server and client authentication purposes with a validity period of 10 years - the expected lifetime of our Linux boxes - and the subject name supplied in the request. I have checked both the intermediate and offline CA - both have more than 10 years of life listed. Is there some kind of hard limit I'm hitting here?

• Games display across both monitors when opened

  I am not sure what setting to change for this but I open games like Dungeon Crawl or a Steam game and the game wants to take up both screens. Is there a way to have the game open just on one screen xrandr shows this. So they are both on Screen 0: Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 2966 x 900, maximum 8192 x 8192 LVDS1 connected 1366x768+1600+75 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 344mm x 193mm VGA1 connected 1600x900+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 443mm x 249mm If you need any more info or can point me to a place you may have already found an answer please let me know.

• How can I update generic non-pnp monitor?

  Background I've been running a KVM switch with my monitor at 1920 x 1080 over VGA for over a year. Did a Windows Update on 12/11/12 which did the following: Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2779562) Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2779030) Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 8 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2761465) Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool x64 - December 2012 (KB890830) Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2753842) Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2758857) Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2770660) After a restart, my extended monitor was dark. I attempted to reset the extended display configuration, and noticed my monitor was being detected as a Generic Non-PnP Monitor: I uninstalled, downloaded new, and re-installed display drivers. Nothing. I attempted to unplug my monitor from the power for 15 minutes. Nothing. I followed some of the suggestions on this thread; specifically DanM's which suggested to create a new *.inf file and replace that in Device Manager. Device Manager said the "best driver software for your device is already installed". The only thing that works is when the monitor is directly attached to the laptop. This obviously is not what I want. My thought is to somehow remove the Generic Non-PnP Monitor from registry. How would I accomplish this and would this help? Any other suggestions? • Why does the screen resolution of 1440x900 suddenly disappears from Intel GMA Control Panel?

  I'm using a Vostro 1200 laptop with the Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset powering its graphics and running Vista 32-bit SP2 . I've been using the Vostro with a Dell SE198WFP LCD Monitor as the external display since day one for about two years without any problems. Recently, I plugged the Vostro into a couple of other monitors. The problem is, now the native resolution for my main monitor's (the SE198WFP) resolution of 1440x900 @ 60 Hz is no longer available. (See below) I've tried everything from uninstalling and reinstalling the Intel drivers as well as the monitor drivers to no avail. I've Goggled that this problem and it appears that this has happened to other people but all the answers involve people giving up in frustration or reinstalling; both terrible outcomes. Has anybody ever figured why this happens and have a good solution? Thanks. UPDATE: This dude has a complicated solution, which I haven't tried yet. His explanations for the problem was After an exausting search for an answer to the matter of why my brand new 19? widescreen monitor’s native resolution (1440×900) was unavailible (sic) in the display properties, I finally stumbled upon an article a person posted on Intel’s forums that basically explained what shannanigans Intel had been up to with their GMA 950 line of onboard graphic solutions. Not very comforting.

• Oracle ADF and Simplified UI Apps: I18n Feng Shui on Display

  I demoed the Hebrew language version of Oracle Sales Cloud Release 8 live in Israel recently. The crowd was yet again wowed by the simplified UI (SUI). I’ve now spent some time playing around with most of the 23 language versions, or the NLS (Natural Language Support) versions as we’d call them, available in Release 8. Hebrew Oracle Sales Cloud Release 8 The simplified UI is built using 100% Oracle ADF. This framework is a great solution for developers to productively build tablet-first, mobility-driven apps for users who work and live using natural languages other than English. Oracle ADF’s internationalization (i18n) relies on built-in Java and Unicode,  packing in i18n goodness such as Bi-Di (or bi-directional) flipping of pages, locale-enabled resource bundles, date and time support, and so on. Comparing German (left) and Hebrew Bi-Di (right) page components in the simplified UI. Note the change in the direction of the arrows and positions of the text. So, developers who need to build global apps don’t have to do anything special when using Oracle ADF components, all thanks to the baked-in UX Feng Shui, as Grant Ronald of the ADF team would say to the UK Oracle User Group. • Display current layout (language code/country flag) in keyboard indicator

  Just upgraded from 10.04 to 10.10, and the keyboard indicator applet no longer displays the two-letter country code for the active layout. This is terrible. Is this the default behaviour? Anyone using two layouts can't tell which language they're in. I can't seem to find the setting for this, it used to be in the preferences for keyboard layout. Update 1: In case this wasn't obvious - I have two keyboard layouts - English and Hebrew. I just upgraded form 10.04, where the country code (USA/IL) was displayed, overlaid on the flag. Now all I get is a vague keyboard icon, and can't find the settings for this. Update 2: this seems to be a bug that people have been reporting since Lucid, and is now back in Maverick

• Google won't display site

  My website (markasoftware.getenjoyment.net) doesn't seem to be indexed properly by Google (I haven't tried other search engines). When I type in the URL of my site it appears right at the top of the list like it should. When I type in the entire contents of the title, however, the site doesn't appear! The title is quite long (Thermonuclear War Game Online: Thermonuclear War By Mark) and it has little (if any) competition. Have I been punished by Google for some reason, or is it something else? I have received zero hits from search engines. Can someone tell me why my site down't appear?

• Laptop Display Not Working

  Hello, I just purchased this laptop. It is working fine but I want to use Xubuntu on it. I managed to get 10.04 installed and running but it did not recognize/use the wireless card. So I want to try 10.10. However, every time I try, the screen goes black and never comes back on. I have tried the Live CD and Alternate install CDs, for both Ubuntu and Xubuntu 10.10. After I select "Install Ubuntu" or "Try Ubuntu", the screen blacks out and never displays anything. So I deleted "quiet" and "splash" off the command line to see what messages would come up. A bunch of text flies by but it ends at: [time] TCP established hash table entries: 524288 (order: 11, 8388608 bytes) [time] TCP bind hash table entries 65536 (order: 8, 1048576 bytes) [time] TCP: Hash tables configured (established 524288 bind 65536) [time] TCP reno registered [time] UDP hash table entries: 2048 (order: 4, 65536 bytes) [time] UDP-Lite hash table entries: 2048 (order: 4, 65536 bytes) [time] NET: Registered protocol family 1 And freezes here forever. I have tried nomodeset, vga=771, and xforcevesa with no progress. Is my video card simply not going to work with this distro? It seems strange that 10.04 would work fine but not 10.10. Any help is appreciated, thank you.

• How to make content display on their proper pages on search engines

  So my site has a blog and gallery, both working the same way. There's an index, and each post has a permalink going to the individual entry. However, if I search for some of the content on Google, often it returns a link to the index, just because it happened to have been on the first page when it was crawled, instead of the individual post pages. This is especially true in cases of images. How can I make it so that Google returns the proper pages for the posts instead of just the main page of my site? My whole site is custom php code I made.

• Garbled display after Ubuntu upgrade to 2.6.32-2* kernel

  I was running Ubuntu 9 (Karmic Koala) with no problems. I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 10 (Lucid Lynx) and cannot use it normally. After I log in, the screen scrambles (a purple/green mess)--impossible to see anything, although I can get out by marking the spot on the screen to click for a restart, so Linux is working behind the scenes. If I start in recovery mode with basic graphics, I have no problems at all (other than limited functionality). If I start the old 2.6.31-22 kernel, I see a bunch of "unmountable" errors in the startup script, but I can use Linux normally with no apparent problems. I'm running an IBM ThinkPad A30 with ATI Mobility graphics. Just to reiterate, the screen looks normal until I log in, at which point it goes bonkers. What do I need to change in order to fix this?

• Problem with installing Nvidia display drivers on Ubuntu 13.10

  Hello everyone and thank you for taking a look at this topic! I'm currently trying out Ubuntu 13.10 but I keep hitting a wall when it comes to installing a driver. I've tried: sudo apt-get install nvidia-current This resulted in a un-bootable system. The screen just stayed black and the cursor displayed as an 'X'. After that I did had to re-install Ubuntu. The computer I'm using is an Acer-Aspire-V3 with a build in Nvidia geforce GT 630M and also with a Intel HD graphics chip-set (not sure if chip-set is the right word here). "lspci | grep VGA" output: pascal@pascal-Aspire-V3-571G:~$ lspci | grep VGA 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller (rev 09) 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GF108M [GeForce GT 630M] (rev a1) I've searched a bit here and there and found out that it would be wise to mention that this laptop is using (or so I think) Nvidia Optimus, not sure if it will add anything to the subject but at least I'll mention it just to be sure. Now to the questions: Q1 How is this caused and how can I fix it? Q2 What additional information could I provide to help you help me?

• Make an agenda view google calendar entry display initially as if it had been clicked

  So I've got a google calendar embedded in my web page. It's set to agenda view so when you click on an entry it expands and shows you more information on the entry. I'd like to be able to link to the page w/ the embedded calendar from elsewhere, and have a specific entry already expanded (as if it had been clicked). Is this even possible? I'm not really sure where to start. PS: I don't have enough rep on this SE to create tags... and there isn't already a tag for "google-calendar"...
