    Is it possible for a Thermaltake BlacX HDD Dock to connect to and recognize an ATA-100 Hard Drive? I know that the specifications for the BlacX say that it only supports SATA & SATAII, but I was hoping for one of three things: 1) for it to still work even though it isn't supported 2) for there to be some sort of workaround to make this possible 3) for there to be another part of some sort that I could purchase to make this work

  • How do I mount a "GPT Protective Partition" in Windows XP?

    I formatted an external USB harddrive while it was connected to a 32-bit Windows 2003 Server Std. edition server. After loading it up with files, I moved it to my Windows XP SP3 where it didn't show up automatically in My Computer. I opened up Computer ManagementDisk Management and see it listed as a "Health (GPT Protective Parititon)". What's up with that? Can I mount it?

    Will the full speed advantages of the future USB 3.0 be negated by the fact the most HD being mass produced are SATA 3? If so, what would you suggest a person do? For performance reasons go with eSATA or 1394 for external HDs. Why spend the money on USB 3.0 next year,even if the prices come down quickly. Given that SATA 6 is not here and may be a while.

A number of files were giving me errors when I tried to take ownership or set permissions, and in all my fiddling on a particular file, it somehow got switched to a folder.   • Drivers not installing and drives not being recognized

    Dell optiplex 755 running win7-32 Two problems, not sure if they're related 1: Two drivers are missing when viewing device manager, PCI serial port and PCI Simple Communications Controller, I've searched dell's site, and the internet as a whole and have been wholly unable to find the drivers. 2: I'm unable to connect any external hard drives, but any flash drives plugged in will be recognized and accessible by the computer without issue. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Need to store and backup HD vid files. But need to access them alot.

    I've had my 700 Gb HDD ever since I bought my computer so partitioning it is out of the question. What I need is a place to keep my HD vid files so when I edit, I don't get a long load time in the editing software. But I also need to keep a back-up of all my other important files which I haven't been doing. Should I buy an additional internal drive JUST for vid files and buy an external for backup of all my files? What are my best options?

  • eSATA hard drive falls asleep, takes ages to wake up.

    I'm using an external hard drive, a Western Digital MyBook 1TB of some sort with eSATA on an eSATA II ExpressCard adapter from Belkin on Windows Vista 32-bit. The issue I'm having is that after a while power management kicks in and puts the hard drive to sleep. When I resume my work and browse the drive, for example, the Explorer hangs and while I can still use my other apps, it takes a couple minutes for it to realize it should wake up the drive and recommence work. What's going on?

  • Can I boot my notebook via eSata pci-xpress card?

    I would like to boot directly from an external hard disk to improve performance over my internal notebook hard disk. My notebook has no native eSata jack but a pci express card. As my BIOS doesn't support the card on boot time so no way directly booting it. My question is, is it possible to work around this issue by using an USB stick or similar with a boot loader like grub and if so, will this only work for Linux or Windows as well?

  • Why do firewire drives on Mac OS cause processes to go into uninterruptible wait?

    I have a Western Digital My Passport Studio external hard drive. It works with either Firewire 800 or USB 2.0. I've noticed that when I have it connected to Firewire, after a few hours, processes on my Mac start to go into an uninterruptible wait state. Eventually the system becomes so hard locked that I can't even shut it down. I have Spotlight indexing of the drive disabled, and the mds process seems to be the one that triggers this eventual system collapse.

    I have a 1 TB hard drive that consists of one NTFS partition which I use to back up my data (no operating system). The size of all the data in it is : 726 GB, size on disk: 728 GB, and the used space when I check the properties is: 731 GB. There's a 5 GB difference between the size and the used space. Why is that huge difference there? What's the difference between these sizes? (size, size on disk, and used space) Is there a way to calculate the difference, and be sure the HDD is not messing around? Is that normal?

    I have been searching for many hours over several days for this answer and though there are many topics on how to include files in a project (also here at Stack Overflow), I have not yet found THE solution to my problem. I'm working on a project where I want to include one single object at a time, from many different files (I do not want to include the files themselves, only their content). All the object in all the files have the same name, only the content is different. It is important that I do not get a SCRIPT tag in the head section of the page as all the content from the files will have the same names. None of the files will have functions anyways, only one single object, that will need to be loaded one at the time and then discarded when the next element is loaded.     Trying to setup VRF for the first time and its not working for me even though I keep reading everything online. IP's are different to real life.
