  • Ubuntu 9.10 server requires frequent reboots to free up memory

    I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 on my server. It works fine, it's just that over time (usually a couple of days) the memory usage just grows and grows until it invariably runs out and needs to be rebooted. It's running Apache, Samba, ProFTPd, Postfix, Munin & Webmin. Is there anything that can be done to free up the memory that it doesn't need anymore?

    My ISP SMTP server is so slow and is picky on what type of e-mails it allows. I need a new SMTP service and it needs to be free. I run a linux server but don't have the time to set up Postfix right now. Also, I don't want to use Gmail's SMTP server because it puts your gmail e-mail address as the sender. Thanks!

    I have to analyse a survey. The survey consists of some yes/no questions, some numeric questions and some questions like the following (free text where respondents have entered multiple answers). Do you have any social networking accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Myspace etc) Y N If yes, which ones _____________________________ Respondents answer: Facebook and Twitter How do I put these types of answer into Excel to gain some sort of useful analysis? It'll be for simple things like a database of my DVD collection and I'd want to be able to import/export using standard file formats and add/edit fields of existing databses.     I have a shared hosting where I got used to using cPanel for managing my domains and stuff Now I am moving to a (unix based) VPS hosting, and the plan that I have chosen comes without cPanel. Since I have the root access, I should be able to install virtually anything I desire So my question is Can you suggest some open source\free solution which will give me the same features as cPanel?

    We are running two physical servers both Windows 2003, not virtualized. What is the best free (if any) windows software to take a full image backup of the entire drives? If possible, while the image is taking place, it should not bring the hosts to their knees with excess CPU or I/O usage. The servers have RAID mirroring, but after hearing a few horror stories about hacked systems, we need to have weekly full image backups, so we can simply revert to a pre-hacked image. Thanks.

  • Break free of a fullscreen app on MacOS X

    How do you break free of a fullscreen app on MacOS X? There are some, mostly games, that when they become unresponsive won't allow you to switch to another app with Command-Tab, and I know no other way to close that app or get away from it. Command-W or Command-Q won't work either. Is there a shortcut to launch Activity Monitor, or Terminal, to kill the application?
