• Superscope DHCP leases and configuration set up

  Hello I wanted to see if someone could help with a network problem I am having. Right now we have a super-scope and scopes of 192.168.50.1 and 192.168.51.1, as of now both are activated but only 192.168.50.1 is handing our leases, 192.168.51 wont. here is a summary of our network Gateway: watchguard firebox x750e for our router/gateway at 192.168.50.1 I set up as a secondary IP address 192.168.51.1 Server: Server 2008 r2 standard, running our DNS @ 192.168.50.242 and 8.8.8.8 as a secondary, AD, and DHCP. On that NIC card i have 192.168.50.242 as the IP address and 192.168.51.242 as a secondary. 192.168.50.1 as the default gateway and 192.168.51.1 as a secondary. Im am not very knowledgeable at this but as far as i have researched after adding a super scope and activating scopes, they should automatically start handing out addresses and I cant figure out why only one does. any help at all would be appreciated.

• Ubuntu Volume overriding settings set in Alsamixer

  Problem: How do I "lock in" the volume I set through alsamixer? I'm running Ubuntu 9.10. I adjusted the bass/treble columns in alsamixer but changing the system volume resets them all back to 100% I did save the settings by running alsactl store but everything is reset once I touch Ubuntu's volume icon in the top menu bar. This is rather painful because the computer is hooked up to a 650watt system with a massive subwoofer. As much as I enjoy my music, there's no need to have the walls vibrate :) What can I do to prevent Ubuntu from overriding the settings?

  I have a free dyndns domain mk12.gotdns.com How can I set up a cname for www.mk12.gotdns.com to point to mk12.gotdns.com? And how can I force the www one, so that if you navigate to mk12.gotdns.com, it will go to the www one? Note: I don't mean html redirecting, but I think you can do it with url rewriting somehow, something like described here. I've seen many tutorials, but they just vaguely say that you have to enter a cname record, I have no clue what file I need to put it in. • Maintaining a set of (virtual) windows XP machines

  I have a small set (currently 3, going to 6, not going to be more than 10) of (virtual, vmware workstation) windows XP machine's. They are similar but not exactly the same. I'm currently rolling out windows updates etc by hand: start machine 1, update, close, etc; I'd like to review the updates first before the clients can install them. Incidentally there are also other updates to be performed: changes some files on all machines, install new Java versions, etc. What's a good way of doing this automatic? I tried to search for this but things like Active Directory seem overkill to me.

• Set Up Port-Forwarding on Netgear N300 Router

  I have a Netgear N300 router that has DynDNS.org as a preset DDNS option. After setting it up it (unsurprisingly) sent traffic directly to my router. I'm essentially using this to connect remotely to my home (virtual) machine/s. From what I've read, it seems like I need to set up port forwarding. I tried forwarding "all" inbound traffic to a specific IP but that just didn't work. What am I doing wrong? Also, I just noticed I get this error after applying the settings: "The specified port(s) are being used by other configurations. Please check your configurations of Remote Management, Port forwarding, Port Triggering, UPnP Port Mapping table, RIP, and Internet connection type"

• Domain controller in cloud, how do we set up local BDC

  We have a domain controller (exchange box) hosted at our hosting provider. We need to set up a local domain controller so we do a VPN and local authentication tasks. I can make the PDC accept all connections from our Office IP. How do I get the office router to correctly allow two way communications between the PDC (cloud) and the local DC. Is there a list of ports I need to pass through to the local DC? Thanks! "PDC" and "BDC" used for clarity--I know that the concept is obsolete.

  I'd like to include cookie data in an nginx access log like so: (simplified example) log_format foo '$remote_addr "$request" $cookie_bar'; access_log /var/log/nginx/access.log foo; This works great on requests that already have a cookie "bar", but for the first request to my server nginx will report "-" as the value of "bar". It seems like my problem is that nginx is looking at the request headers for the cookie value. Is there a way check for a Set-Cookie in the response and use that as a fallback?

  I am currently setting up a simple Wordpress website. I am attempting to set a specific page as the Static Home page. I have read wordpress documentation on setting the homepage, and upon load, it directs to the correct page, but does not replace the previous home page.   I work in a small office with about 35 people and we are all on a intranet. This network is not connected to the internet. Is it possible to set up an email server, with which we could send emails to each other? (We don't need to send emails outside our network.) I cannot use a messenger service like Openfire, since the messages could be asynchronous, and we'd like to get those emails in a email client like Thunderbird. Another obstacle we have is that we do not have a domain name. Any ideas on which free (as in beer) software could be used? We have both Windows and Linux machines.

  Maybe is a very basic question, but I can't find the exact terms to Google for it and find the concrete answer to my doubt. Suppose we have several PCs in which individual employees work. One of them has an extremely powerful CPU, and it's very useful to use that computer to perform heavy computations, but go there and set up your task means its user has to stop working for a while. Is it possible to allow a secondary user account to remotly log in, for example via Remote Desktop, and work with a full user environment, while the main user keeps working under his user session? I've used remote desktop many times in the past, but it always blocked current user session, or even terminated it. Lots of thanks in advance guys.

  Hello, and apologies if this is a duplicate - if you could point me in the direction of any existing answers, that would be great. I have a set of date ranges in Excel, each of which has some kind of label. e.g. LabelA 01/01/10 31/01/10 LabelB 01/02/10 28/02/10 LabelC 01/03/10 31/03/10 If I have another date, I would like to look up the label relating to the date range within which this date falls. e.g. For 15/02/10 I would like to return LabelB. I know that the date ranges will not overlap, although there could be a gap between the end date of one, and the start date of the next.

• How to set up Apache 2 to serve only subdirectories

  I have 3 sites which need to be hosted on a web server (apache2 from repo running on Ubuntu 12.04). They are each in their own subdirectory within /var/www/ I would like apache to serve files from the relevant directories only if the directory name is given in the URL, but not serve the /var/www/ directory itself. E.g: http://1.2.3.4/site1/ should work and serve the index from /var/www/site1/index.html, but http://1.2.3.4/ should not serve anything. Currently, I can't get the url to point to the directory. Either I can get http://1.2.3.4/ to serve everything within /var/www/ (including /var/www/site2/secretstuff/), or I can get the root http://1.2.3.4/ to serve one of the subdirectories (/var/www/site1/). This is unacceptable site 1 needs Indexes enabled but the others must not. I just want to make site1's config only respond to requests of the form http://1.2.3.4/site1/* and not handle requests of the form http://1.2.3.4/ I do not have a domain name set up so I can't use subdomains.

• Set up homeserver with single IP to host multiple sites on Ubuntu [closed]

  I am trying to set up my homeserver so it can function as a regular server one would rent. I am running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS with openpanel. I have a single static IP address. I am used to having two addresses and pointing them to NS1.domain.tld and NS2.domain.tld and setting up the propper DNS records. I would also like to mention I am somewhat new to DNS zones. Either way, how would I go about setting this up correctly (in openpanel) with just a single IP address if possible at all? I have also read about free solutions online, but I would like to keep everything secure and private so other people can't peer into my data somehow. Thanks!

Only I don't really understand all the Shared / Security options. I have a folder that must be accessed by 2 people in the company (and no one else). They both must have read/write/edit and change access. They must be able to read/write/edit each others files; existing or newly created. Should be easy but I'm a bit overwhelemd by all the choices.   This may be a really dumb question but how can you open a port on multiple interfaces without defining the interfaces? For example how do I open port 22 on all interfaces? On my machine I have some interfaces that are dynamic and may or may not be available so I have to set "generic" rules. • Can I set osx to boot with several spaces containing a different set of apps in each?

  When my system boots I would love to have it to create three spaces: First Space: email and things (my to do list program) Second Space: textmate and a browser containing first site I am developing Third Space: textmate and a browser containing my second site Is it possible to set it up to do that each time? I'd prefer not to use the reopen windows option on shutdown because most days I have a bunch of things open that I won't need the next day. Thanks. UPDATE: I found TotalSpaces2 and it will open all the same spaces when I reboot. I suppose that I might need some kind of hack to get the applications to start in the appropriate space at boot.

What I'd like is a single, concise document that lists the steps involved. It could be a free online article, someone's blog, a small booklet, someone here who takes the trouble to write it out. Does such a thing exist? If so, can you provide the reference or even provide the text here. I'm running a very small, simple environment consisting of two ESXi hosts and Vsphere Standard edition.   There is an "Always on topmost" menu option for windows. I'm not sure if it's related to compiz or metacity. I want to set the Totem player or Cheese the WebCAM player, always below the bottom-most, so I can view the movie when I'm working. And, let the "Always below the bottom-most" windows be excluded in the windows list is even better. If there is no such function yet, where should I begin if I want to develop one? It's Compiz or Gtk or XFB or something else?

• Cisco adaptive security appliance is dropping packets where SYN flag is not set

  We have an apache instance sitting inside our DMZ which is configured to proxy requests to an internal NATed tomcat instance inside our network. It works fine, but then all of a sudden requests from apache to the tomcat instance stop getting through with the following in the apache logs: [error] (70007)The timeout specified has expired: ajp_ilink_receive() can't receive header Investigating into the Cisco log viewer reveals the following: Error Message %ASA-6-106015: Deny TCP (no connection) from IP_address/port to IP_address/port flags tcp_flags on interface interface_name. Explanation The adaptive security appliance discarded a TCP packet that has no associated connection in the adaptive security appliance connection table. The adaptive security appliance looks for a SYN flag in the packet, which indicates a request to establish a new connection. If the SYN flag is not set, and there is not an existing connection, the adaptive security appliance discards the packet. Recommended Action None required unless the adaptive security appliance receives a large volume of these invalid TCP packets. If this is the case, trace the packets to the source and determine the reason these packets were sent. All are machines are virtualised using VMware, and by default machines have been using the Intel E1000 emulated NIC. Our network administrator has changed this to a VMXNET3 driver in an attempt to correct the problem, we just have to wait and see if the problem persists as it's an intermittent problem. Is there something else that could be causing this problem? This isn't the first service where we have had similar issues. Our apache host is running Ubuntu 11.10 with a kernel version of 3.0.0-17-server. We have also had this issue on RHEL5 (5.8) running kernel 2.6.18-308.16.1.el5, this machine also has the E1000 NIC. NOTE: I am not a network administrator and am a software architect and analyst programmer responsible for these systems.

• Mod_Proxy_AJP set up issues

  I'm trying to set up Tomcat behind Apache using mod_proxy_ajp. After tons of messing around with the configs I am stuck at a 403 page when trying to access tomcat. I had a 404 before but apparently something I changed along the way fixed that. I'm not sure which setting to change at this point.
