  I'm trying to make an ad-hoc network for personal uses.. while creating it, it was created but when i tried to turn internet sharing on i got this error Windows could not set up internet connection sharing (ICS) I looked up google what is ICS and i found that it was an option in sharing tab in my connection properties, so i tried to enable it and i got this error An error occurred while internet connection sharing was being enabled. The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion. I tried to also look up google for solution for this and i ended up with nothing really, i tried to enable the required services @ services.msc for it.. rebooted and still same thing it was working a while ago (had a problem at enabling my wireless for about 2 months and i just found a solution for it..) for some reason it doesn't now

Eth1 is hooked up directly to the university network over 10Megabit. The router's uplink is hooked up to the university network as well, and it is also 10Megabit. Currently (I believe) all traffic on Calcium is going through eth0, through the router, regardless of whether it is internal or external. (How can I confirm this?) Ideally, traffic that is destined for the internal network (192.168.10.0/24) would travel over eth0 to the router, and wherever it is going. ALL other traffic should go over eth1.

Here is my GF set up Assume: x.y.z.t is the ip of my VPS Resource Type: javax.sql.ConnectionPoolDataSource User: root DatabaseName: scholar Url: jdbc:mysql://x.y.z.t:3306/scholar URL: jdbc:mysql://x.y.z.t:3306/scholar Password: xxxx PortNumber: 3306 ServerName: x.y.z.t Inside my glassfish3/glassfish/lib, I have my mysql-connector-java-5.1.13-bin.jar Inside the database, table mysql here is the result of the query select User, Host from user; +------------------+-----------+ | User | Host | +------------------+-----------+ | root | 127.0.0.1 | | debian-sys-maint | localhost | | root | localhost | | root | yunaeyes | +------------------+-----------+ Now from my machine, if I try to connect to this db via mysql browser (mysql client software), well I cant. Well from the table above, seem like it only allow localhost to connect to this db. Keep in mind that both my db and my GF are on the same VPS. Please help

  Hi, everyone I have a huge pcap file (generated by tcpdump). When I try to open it in wireshark, the program just gets unresponsive. Is there a way to split a file in set of smaller ones to open them one by one? The traffic captured in a file is generated by two programs on two servers, so I can't split the file using tcpdump 'host' or 'port' filters. I've also tried linux 'split' command :-) but with no luck. Wireshark wouldn't recognize the format.

• bash : "set -e" and check if a user exists make script exit

  i am writing a script to install a program with bash, i want to exit on error so i added "set -e" in the beginning of my script. the problem is that i have to check if a user exists inside of my script, to do this i am using "grep "^${USER}:" /etc/passwd", if the user exists, the script runs normally, but if the user doesn't exist, this command exists, and i don't want to exit on this case (i have to create the user and continue my installation). so what's the solution to make my script continue running ?? i tried to redirect the output of "grep" to a variable, but i still have the same problem :( thanks.

• Loss of feature set with VMware EVC

  If I have two machines both 3rd Generation AMD Opteron, one Shanghai & one Istanbul and I can vMotion between them. Does it buy me anything to enable EVC at the 3rd Generation AMD level? Will I lose any CPU features? My thoughts are, I can enable EVC 3rd Generation with running VMs and I can't enable 2nd Generation EVC with running VMs. I figure there won't be a lose in any features because if there was a reduction in feature set then I couldn't enable EVC with running VMs.

  I use the open source application Ulipad http://code.google.com/p/ulipad/ do edit restructured text files (rst). It is a python application that I launch via terminal like so python32 UliPad.py I have python32 as an alias to the 32bit install of python on my machine. I have several versions installed. First I would like a way to launch ulipad like other osx apps. Not really sure how to do this. I would like to set all .rst files to be opened with UliPad.py. Is there a way to do this? I know how to choose the default app in finder but not sure how to choose ulipad as that app.

  I've got a dir that i've lost controll over in an afs system. According to the system adminstrators my adminin subgroup (dsekt:admin) got rlidwka on the dir. I'm a member of this group (and i can list the members of the group and see my nick there) though I can't set the acl's for the dir. • Set Display Refresh Rate in OSX w/o External Utilities

  I have an iMac and an LG Flatron connected as a secondary monitor. The recommended resolution for the flatron is 1680x1050 @ 65.290 Hz (horiz), 59.954 Hz (vert). For some reason, OSX is choosing a slightly different set of scan rates and this is currently my best guess of why the monitor goes into power saving mode when connected to the iMac (but works fine on a PC). Now, I resolved this by installing switchResX and fudging the scan rates according to the specs in the manual. But how does one change these rates w/o 3rd party tools? Which config files need editing? Thanks

I was able to do it in Apache by putting the following in main httpd.conf: <Location "/robots.txt"> SetHandler None </Location> Alias /robots.txt /var/www/html/robots.txt I tried doing something similar with nginx by adding the lines given below (a) within nginx.conf and (b) as include conf.d/robots.conf location ^~ /robots.txt { alias /var/www/html/robots.txt; } I have tried with '=' and even put it in one of the virtual host to test it. Nothing seemed to work. What am I missing here? Is there another way to achieve this?

  I have the following problem - Windows Vista does not connect to adhoc wireless network created on my Macbook. I have tried to create secured (with 40 bit key) and unsecured network but Windows Vista still has problems to connect. Windows VISTA informs me -- after 5 minutes of attempts - that setting up the connection -- with my adhoc network -- took too much time. My question: do I need to configure some settings on Vista to connect it to my Macbook? Maybe it is a problem with DHCP? • Excel 2007: Using a time to set XY chart axis scaling like in 2003

  In Excel 2003, when you created a XY chart using time as an axis, you could set the scaling of these axes by typing in the date. In Excel 2007, you have to use the decimal version of the time (eg. How many days since some arbitrary earlier date). I was wondering if there was a way to avoid having to make such a calculation? A developer posted on a blog that this issue would be fixed in a future release, but all versions of Excel 2007 I have tried have not resolved this issue. The relevant quote: Those of you familiar with this technique of converting time to a decimal may recall that Excel 2003 allowed you to enter a date and time like “1/1/07 11:00 AM” directly in the axis option min/max fields and Excel would calculate the appropriate decimal representation.   To test a specific embedded client, I need to set up a web server serving a couple of SSL (HTTPS) sites, say "main.mysite.com" and "alternate.mysite.com". These should be handled by the same certificate, with a Subject Name of "main.mysite.com" and a Subject Alternative Name of "alternate.mysite.com". This certificate needs to be in an authority chain back to a 'proper' CA (such as GoDaddy, to keep the cost down). My question is, are there any good tutorials on how to do this, or can someone explain the process? What sort of parent certificate do I need to purchase from the CA provider? My understanding of SSL certificates is limited, but as Manuel said in Fawlty Towers, "I learn...". I'm happy to work in Windows (IIS) or Linux (Apache) (or even OSX, for that matter). • Redhat doesn't set my desired hostname on reboot

  I have a redhat (EL5) server that I need to change the hostname on. I'm trying to put it back into a known state to help with server provisioning activities. As part of changing the hostname, I'm updating /etc/sysconfig/network and /etc/hosts. I also have an explicit call to hostname. My desired state is that the server thinks its hostname is "localhost". And a call to "hostname" returns "localhost". The problem I'm having is that when I reboot, the hostname is reverted to "localhost.companyname.com" which is not what I want. How do I ensure that the hostname is set up as just "localhost" when I reboot? My /etc/sysconfig/network file contains: NETWORKING=yes HOSTNAME=localhost GATEWAY=123.123.123.123 #I do have a proper IP address here My /etc/hosts file contains: 127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost 172.21.1.1 localhost.companyname.com localhost

• Cannot set "Language for Non-Unicode Programs" in Regional and Language Settings

  I'm trying to set the Language for Non-Unicode Programs from English to Japanese (I'm using Windows XP SP 3), but it won't let me. It looks like I've got the East Asian Language packs installed, but when I select "Japanese" from the drop-down box and hit "Apply" I get an error that says "Setup was unable to install the chosen locale. Please contact your system administrator". I'm already logged in as the administrator, and I've restarted several times but it still won't let me. Can anyone give me an idea as to how to solve this problem? Reinstalling Windows is absolutely out of the question.

In the first screen of data that appreas, there's a row called "Health" which has value "Unmonitored". Do you know how to set this port to be Monitored? And if also - what "Health" monitoring does? • Why can't I create an Alias Resource Record Set for an EC2 instance

  I have been working with AWS for over a year, setting up EC2 instances, domains, ELBs, etc. When I want to assign a subdomain to an EC2 instance, I have to create an elastic IP (that I pay for), then assign a CNAME record to that elastic IP. When I want to assign a subdomain to an ELB (load balancer) instance, I just create an alias resource record set to the ELB. I've read over the docs and don't understand why AWS doesn't support aliasing to instances. Am I missing a key concept here? Wouldn't it be simpler to just alias EC2 instances and skip the whole elastic IP bit?

• How to set up wireless access on a Cisco router

  Hi, I've set up my 877W according to the configuration listed in this forum post: IPTV over Cisco 877 (It's the working configuration at the bottom of the post) Note that I have an 877W, so it also has a wireless radio. Now, I've gotten the whole setup to work, so IPTV is working, and I can access the internet via the ethernet ports. Now I'm trying to figure out how to allow access via the dot11radio interface. I've gathered that I basically need to create a bridge group, and bridge the radio to the internet VLAN. However, when I add a bridge-group 2 command to VLAN1, it seems to take down the whole internet VLAN. (The IPTV continues to work.) This makes the router itself inaccessible (I've got a laptop, so no serial) and I end up having to reboot the router. Can anyone tell me how to a) Allow wireless access to the internet (preferably with WEP, to match my old router) b) Determine what makes the router inaccessible when I add the new bridge group c) Forward the IPTV traffic onto a machine on my internet VLAN
