  • External hard drive is recognized but not mounted in OS X

    My external HD got unplugged without ejecting and my Mac will no longer mount the drive, but it recognizes it's there. I already tried repairing the disk in Disk Utility, and erasing it in Disk Utility, and it still won't mount. I can't imagine the hardware is actually damaged otherwise it wouldn't even recognize it (Right?). Is there any other software solution I can try? Recovering my files is not a concern.

    I'm attempting to use Notepad++ TextFX HTMLTidy - Tidy: Reindent XML. This works well with the following exception. Lines longer than 70 character are wrapped, breaking the validity of my xml. This: <RevieweeDepartmentName>BB AAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAA AAAA</RevieweeDepartmentName> Becomes this: <RevieweeDepartmentName>BB AAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAA AAAA</RevieweeDepartmentName> How can I get it to stop this behavior?

  • Available filesystems for Linux that are case-insensitive?

    I have a client whose web application was written entirely in a windows environment and served from windows. Unfortunately there's way to many cases of get "file/At/Somelocation.php" where the file is actually something horrible like "File/at/SomeLocation.PHP". I really don't want to be forced to work in Windows but it will take weeks if not longer to fix all the casing issues. Am I SOL here?

  • Exchange 2010 SP1 won't allow messages to be deleted in OWA

    Before upgrading to Service Pack 1 of Exchange 2010, OWA worked fine. We were able to do everything with no issues. After the upgrade, we can no longer delete messages within OWA unless we open up the message and delete it using the delete button inside of the message window. The error we get is this: We've searched online and only found several posts pointing us to rename or delete the web.config file in the inetpub directory. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

  • What's the best way to backup a web server with 30GB of data?

    I currently have a server(Linux) running with around 10'000 users daily on it. The hoster offers a backup which I'm also using. Although I trust my hoster, I would like to have an offsite backup, just in case the hoster goes down for a longer time or goes bankrupt (you never know). My idea was to tar and split the data and copy the archive to my Amazon S3 account but I'm wondering if that's the best idea? Any tip is appreciated. Thanks, Andy

  • Can't re-open "Group My Tabs" page after killing Firefox

    Due to memory problems I closed Firefox whilst the Group My Tabs (Ctrl+e) feature was displaying the multiple tab groups. After 20 minutes the process still hadn't finished so killall firefoxed it. When I restart Firefox, there is a Javascript process called tabview.js that hangs unless I click Stop at the warning screen. If I do hit Stop then I can no longer open the tabview, so I can't get to any of the tabs except in the subgroup I was last looking at. Any suggestions?

    I wanted to format my USB thumbdrive, but incorrectly did the following on my external HDD!! CMD -- Diskpart select disk 2 clean create partition primary select partition 1 active format fs=fat32 While it was still at 0% however, I cancelled the format and quit from CMD. I can no longer see the HDD in My computer though, and it shows up as below in diskpart Disk 1 Status - Online Size- 1800 GB Free - 0B Is there anything I can do to get the data and HDD back?

I've unchecked the appropriate box, but I'd like to remove the application from the list: I've got a couple of applications under Location Services, too (including one Wifi stumbler application that's no longer installed). What plist do I modify to remove the applications from the list?

  • Differences between Fedora servers

    I'm using Amazon EC2 and trying to choose a machine image (AMI) for my project. It seems all their LAMP AMIs are Fedora Core 4, but this seems like quite an old version, considering the current release is apparently Fedora 12, and < 10 releases are no longer supported. My question is how significantly different are the early fedora releases- is it crazy to be on versions 4 or even 8? (I realize this is probably a broad question)

    I've been told to assume it takes as long as 48 hours for a DNS change to propagate throughout the entire Internet, because some DNS servers cache their entries for longer than my TTL. However, for years and across ISPs and domains, every time I've made a DNS change I see the effects within a couple of hours. Is it still true that I need to assume a full two days for everyone to see my changes?

  • No Data Received

    Out of the blue, around 40% of my website's community can no longer visit, saying they're getting "No Data Received" errors. We've taken our firewall offline, tried going through systems such as Cloudflare and checked our .htaccess to no avail. I've asked affected users to traceroute but the weird thing is it looks like it's being stopped at ISP level. Can anyone suggest other things that may be causing this error?

  • Software for browsing/searching SQL Server transaction logs

    I'd like to know whether there is any piece of software that will allow the browsing/searching of SQL Server transaction logs (any version). We've previously used Lumigent Log Explorer against SQL Server 2000 which fulfilled our need, but the product no longer exists and Lumigent's closest replacement doesn't appear to support SQL 2008 (according to the data sheet). I've discovered something called ApexSQL Audit which may fit the bill, but I'm wondering if anyone has any experience of it, how it compares with Log Explorer, and whether there are any good alternatives out there.     In Mac OS X 10.7, you cannot have a guest user if you encrypt the entire drive. An alternative is to create a psuedo-guest user. One of the downsides is that the feature where the guest user is restored to original state no longer exists. How do I write a script that restores the User Template found in /System/Library/User Template/English.lproj? I would also have to figure how to activate this script either at login or on logout.

  • How to re-enable Autoplay for removeable drives on Windows 7

    When I plug a USB thumb drive into my Win7 PC, it no longer auto-launches the window giving me options like "Import Photos" or "browse". The drive is recognized but nothing autolaunches. Similarly, CD's don't autoplay either.   • Can't see any entries on "File Types" tab on Windows 7's Desktop Search

    For some reason, Windows Desktop Search (included with Windows 7.0) now no longer shows any file types on the "Advanced Options" dialog box. Any ideas on how to fix this? WDS claims to be indexing...but I'm not sure what it's actually indexing right now. I should also add that when I try to add a file type, nothing shows up or is ever actually added. If I login as a different user on the same system, everything appears normally.

    Since Acronis Disk Director Suite 10.0 is no longer compatible with Windows 7, I'm in need of an alternative. I'm not interested in Acronis Disk Director Suite workarounds, particularly not an application as dangerous as a partition manager. I don't want to mess it up my partitions due to incompatibality.   • How to sleep computer via batch file? (Windows 7)

    So I want to make a batch file that will sleep my computer after a period of time. The closest thing I have found is placing it in standby, but seems to work differently then the sleep button on my keyboard (longer bootup, doesn't wake on mouse click). Any ideas?   • pidgin: how to make it log logins/logouts of an ICQ buddy if the conversation tab is still open

    Hello, when pidgin was called gaim and you had opened a tab with am ICQ buddy, all his logins and logouts were logged during the time you had that tab open. It didnt' even matter if your buddy was online before you opened the tab with him. In pidgin 2.6.6, I this behavior can no longer be observed and I cannot find an option in the preferences or buddy context menu to enable it. How do I restore that behavior from gaim time? Thanks!
