  • Why does only "network" appear in Startup Disks on my Mac?

    I have a Linux dual boot setup with my Mac (with Leopard). When I open System Preferences Startup Disk I only see "Network Startup" and no HDD or BOOTCAMP as expected. So now, annoyingly, because "Network Startup" is the only option, it tries to start using the network (the flashing globe) for a short while rather than booting directly into Mac OS X. Is there a way to either fix Startup Disk or manually hack this?

  • Which keymap to use for wired mac keyboard in Gentoo Linux?

    I just purchase the new wired mac keyboard: Running on Gentoo Linux it works mostly fine. The only problem i am having is the function keys and swapping the alt and command keys to resemble a regular pc keyboard. When I tried switching to the "mac-us" keymap in /etc/conf.d/keymaps I got garbage when typing (not even qwerty). Is there any specific keymap that I can use to get what I want?

Cheap programs are also welcome, I paid for a Photoshop license, so why not another software...     I have a Mac Mini with Core Solo 1.5GHz, 512mb RAM, 60gb HDD, etc... I know, it's very old but since it's lying around here, I wanted to bump it up for general usage and some experimental iPhone development. Also, Snow Leopard can't be installed as it doesn't have enough RAM. I browsed around but I'm not sure if this Mac Mini's motherboard accepts a Core2Duo (at least a 2.0GHz). If anyone could inform me which generation of Core2Duo it still accepts, I'd be grateful.

But it worked very well when I tried a DNS query on TCP using dig command. However, I can't find some control switch to change to use TCP during DNS query. Is there a way to change it in Mac OS?   • NTFS External Drive takes too long to takes data in Mac ?

    I've an Seagate 500 GB external HD (NTFS). To read/write it on Mac (OSX 10.6.2) , I've tried MacFUSE and NTFS-3G to write my HD on Mac. Though I could be able to see the hard drive, it takes too long to see the contents like this is this normal ? also the data transfer takes too long time and the hard disk becomes too hot . Any suggestions are most welcome.

    Is there a recommended filesystem to use when sharing an external drive between the Mac and PC? I understand there are options for Macs to read/write NTFS filesystems and also for PCs to read/write HFS+ filesystems. Is there a preferred filesystem or perhaps a different filesystem that both Mac and PC and read/write? I know I could use FAT32 but some of the files I use are larger than 4 GB (i.e. Virtual Machine images)

    Hi I'm a used Ubuntu user on a pc, and I like the french keyboard layout because it allows me to type accentued characters easily. I found a win-fr keyboard layout but it's much like windows and not so good. I found xmodmap.fr keyboard layout and I'd like to know if it was possible use it with my Mac SL 10.6.5, maybe I could do xmodmap xmodmap.fr or a way to convert to mac layout file. Any ideas?!

    I want to validate the current situation :- I have multiple users who have to use designing applications like Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator etc and maybe some Mac specific applications like iWork and they need to be working on the applications in parallel. Can I setup a Mac Mini OS X Server and create separate user accounts and give to these users so that they can remote login to the OS X Server simultaneously from their Windows machines and use any application they want? In crux, can they share the server resources and applications from their windows machines?
