• Seagate 3TB hard drive loses format information

  I have a Windows 7x64 Ultimate, 6 GB memory, 1 TB HD. 3TB Barracuda XT HDD. The HDD is installed on a StarTech 4 bays external enclosure I had troubles so I converted to a GPT, created 1 partition and formatted as NTFS. The hard drive I can write and read to and from the hard drive but it will become unreadable at some point while I am copying files or after I have copied files to it. I have copied large Bluray movies and diverse video files, I have also copied 32 GB of pictures, and I have copied about 86 thousand music files in different formats. At some point the partition becomes unreadable and I have to format the partition again (all files lost) and I have to start the whole process again. At some point I have been unable to copy large ISO (Bluray movies) file images. I have partitioned the HDD in 2 partitions P1 - 2TB, P2 - 1TB and I have lost every single file in either partition the same way. I reformat the HDD and it seems fine. I have run seatools to check the hard drive and it reports to be OK. What gives?

• jQuery unbinding click event when maximum number of children are displayed

  I have a personal details form that alows you to enter a certain number of dependants which is determined by the JSP application. The first dependant is visible and the user has the option to add dependants up to the maximum number. All other dependants are hidden by default and are displayed when a user clicks the 'Add another dependant button'. When the maximum number of dependants has been reached the button is greyed out and a message is generated via jQuery and displayed to tell the user exactly this. The issue i am having is when the maximum number of dependants has been reached the message is displayed but then the user can click the button to add more dependants and the message keeps on generating. I thought unbinding the click event would sort this but it seems to still be able to generate a second message. • Python File Search Line And Return Specific Number of Lines after Match

  I have a text file that has lines representing some data sets. The file itself is fairly long but it contains certain sections of the following format: Series_Name INFO Number of teams : n1 | Team | # | wins | | TeamName1 | x | y | . . . | TeamNamen1 | numn | numn | Some Irrelevant lines Series_Name2 INFO Number of teams : n1 | Team | # | wins | | TeamName1 | num1 | num2 | . where each section has a header that begins with the Series_Name. Each Series_Name is different. The line with the header also includes the number of teams in that series, n1. Following the header line is a set of lines that represents a table of data. For each series there are n1+1 rows in the table, where each row shows an individual team name and associated stats. I have been trying to implement a function that will allow the user to search for a Team name and then print out the line in the table associated with that team. However, certain team names show up under multiple series. To resolve this, I am currently trying to write my code so that the user can search for the header line with series name first and then print out just the following n1+1 lines that represent the data associated with the series. Since the header line basically tells me how many lines are in the table, I thought that I could use that information to construct a loop that would continue printing each line until a set counter reached n1. But I've tried running it, and I realize that the way I've set it up so far isn't correct. So here's my question: How do you return a number of lines after a matched line when given the number of desired lines that follow the match? I'm new to programming, and I apologize if this question seems silly. I have been working on this quite diligently with no luck and would appreciate any help.

When the page loads I expected the value in the textbox to be (394)456-310_ But it displays (_39)445-6310 Why is this happening?

• Convert local time (10 digit number) to a readable datetime format

  Hey all, I'm working with pbx for voip calls. One aspect of pbx is that you can choose to receive CDR packages. Those packages have 2 timestamps : "utc" and "local", but both seem to always be the same. Here's an example of a timestamp : "1268927156". At first sight, there seems to be no logic in it. So i tried converting it several ways, but with no good result. That value should provide a time around 11am (+1GMT) today. Things i tried: Datetime dt = new Datetime(number); Timespan ts = new Timespan(number); DateTime utc = new DateTime(number + 504911232000000000, DateTimeKind.Utc) and some others i can't remember right now. Am i missing something stupid here? Thanks in advance

  Hello there, I have a string which looks like this "a 3e,6s,1d,3g,22r,7c 3g,5r,9c 19.3", how do I go through it and extract the integers and assign them to its corresponding letter variable?. (i have integer variables d,r,e,g,s and c). The first letter in the string represents a function, "3e,6s,1d,3g,22r,7c" and "3g,5r,9c" are two separate containers . And the last decimal value represents a number which needs to be broken down into those variable numbers. my problem is extracting those integers with the letters after it and assigning them into there corresponding letter. and any number with a negative sign or a space in between the number and the letter is invalid. How on earth do i do this?

  I'm trying to set a special cell number format with theses rules: display percentage display at max 3 digits (decimal + integer part) So I can display 100% or 99.3% or 1.27% but not 100.9% or 100.27% or 99.27%. Of course, I can have negative number (-27.3%) and it does not affect my rules. I've try with the cell formating option without success: [<1]0.00%;[<10]0.0%;0% Because it seemed that excel (2010) does not support more than 2 conditions in cell formating (and so I can't expand it to manage negative number...) It there anyway to do what I want? Thanks

• MS Word TOC that references # pages rather than page number

  We frequently need to write specifications in Word which require a TOC that refers to the total number of pages in a section, rather than the page number. E.g., Section No. Pages 01010 Summary of Work..............5 01025 Prices.......................2 01400 Quality Control..............1 01700 Contract Close Out...........2 A wrinkle is that each section is a separate file. To date, we've been writing or TOC by hand, which has introduced every error imaginable. Is there an MS feature that populates a TOC with page totals? If not, I've done a little VB in Office, so wouldn't be opposed to that route as need be, as long as it was usable by our low tech users. Related question - all the section files are in the same folder. It would be nice if the TOC loaded every file in a folder, rather than having to specify each one. Is this a feature of Word or would this require VB? We tried a master document with links to subdocuments, but since the number of section files ebbs and flows with each project, the approach required too much maintenance for our Wordophobes.

  I have a text file which contains some data. I m particularly interested in finding the count of the number of items in v_dims v_dims pattern in my text file looks like this : v_dims={ "Sales", "Product Family", "Sales Organization", "Region", "Sales Area", "Sales office", "Sales Division", "Sales Person", "Sales Channel", "Sales Order Type", "Sales Number", "Sales Person", "Sales Quantity", "Sales Amount" } So I m thinking of getting all the elements in v_dims and dumping them out in a Python list. Then compute the len(mylist) to get the count of the items. The challenge is in getting all the elements of v_dims from my text file and putting them in an empty list. I m particularly interested in items in v_dims in my text file. The text file has data in the form of v_dims pattern i showed in my original post. Some data has nested patterns of v_dims. Thanks. • Reduce size of MP4

  I have a MP4 file with a lengh of 22:44. Here are the details: Video: width: 720 px height: 404 px data bitrate: 1022 kBit/s overall bitrate: 1182 kBit/s fps: 24 codec: H264 - MPEG4 AVC (part 10) (avc1) Audio: bitrate: 159 kBit/s stereo sample rate: 48 kHz codec: MPEG AAC Audio (mp4a) I thought I can reduce the current filesize (about 200 MB) by reducing the width and the height (420 x 236). I tried different programs: Handbrake, Format Factory, Next Video Converter and Super. The first three didn't worked as expected: Handbrake has a bug by setting the width and the height, the next two doesn't allow the fine setting of the videosize (only presets of width and height). Super seems to be the best, but I didn't found a setting which reduces the file size. I reduced the width and the height but only got 20 MB less. Now I tried the xth setting and I still get a too high file size. I want to reduce the filesize to 100 MB or less. The ouput format should be FLV or MP4, because I need this for flowplayer. Which settings of SUPER or which program should I use to reduce the file size? Of course the video should still be viewable.

• Datetime Format Setting In SSRS

  We have a requirement where date time values would be passed to the report parameter which is of "String" date type (and not "DateTime"). The report parameter would be a queried one i.e. it would have a list of values in which the passed value should fall in. The strange part is that if the date time value passed to this parameter is passed in this format mm/dd/yyyy hh:mm:ss AM/PM then only it succeeds otherwise a error is displayed (If month/date/hour/minute/second is having a single digit value then we need to pass single digit value to parameter as well). Assuming that the report server picks this format from the "regional settings" in control panel, we tried modifying the date & time formats as yyyy-mm-dd & HH:mm:ss but the outcome was the same. On researching more I found some suggestions specifying to change the language property in the rdl (I was not able to figure out how) but this would not be the solution I am looking for. I also found another topic here but it didn't provide the solution but it didn't provide the solution we are looking for. I need to understand on if this format is controlled by the report server & is it configurable. It would be great if someone can provide some guidance. Thanks.

• Will JSON replace XML as a data format?

  When I first saw XML, I thought it was basically a representation of trees. Then I thought: the important thing isn't that it's a particularly good representation of trees, but that it is one that everyone agrees on. Just like ASCII. And once established, it's hard to displace due to network effects. The new alternative would have to be much better (maybe 10 times better) to displace it. Of course, ASCII has been (mostly) replaced by Unicode, for internationalization. According to google trends, XML has a x43 lead, but is declining - while JSON grows. Will JSON replace XML as a data format? (edited) for which tasks? for which programmers/industries? NOTES: S-expressions (from lisp) are another representation of trees, but which has not gained mainstream adoption. There are many, many other proposals, such as YAML and Protocol Buffers (for binary formats). I can see JSON dominating the space of communicating with client-side AJAX (AJAJ?), and this possibly could back-spread into other systems transitively. XML, being based on SGML, is better than JSON as a document format. I'm interested in XML as a data format. XML has an established ecosystem that JSON lacks, especially ways of defining formats (XML Schema) and transforming them (XSLT). XML also has many other standards, esp for web services - but their weight and complexity can arguably count against XML, and make people want a fresh start (similar to "web services" beginning as a fresh start over CORBA).

• I Need a Human Readable, Yet Parse-able Document Format

  I'm working on one of those projects where there are a million better ways to accomplish what I need but I have no choice and I have to do it this way. Here it is: There is a web form, when the user fills it out and hits a submit a human readable text file is created using the form data. It looks like this: field_1: value for field one field_2: value for field two more data for field two (field two has a newline in it!) field3: some more data My problem is this: I need to parse this text file back into the web form so that the user can edit it. How could I, in a foolproof way, accomplish this? A database is not an option, I have to use these text files. My Questions: Is there a foolproof way to do this using the format in the example above? What human readable format would work better (in other words I can change the format) Human readable means that a non programmer could read it and know what is what. This project uses PHP.

• Format for storing contacts in a database

  I'm thinking of the best way to store personal contacts in a database for a business application. The traditional and straightforward approach would be to create a table with columns for each element, i.e. Name, Telephone Number, Job title, Address, etc... However, there are known industry standards for this kind of data, like for example vCard, or hCard, or vCard-RDF/XML or even Windows Contacts XML Schema. Utilizing an standard format would offer some benefits, like inter-operablilty with other systems. But how can I decide which method to use? The requirements are mainly to store the data. Search and ordering queries are highly unlikely but possible. The volume of the data is 100,000 records at maximum. My database engine supports native XML columns. I have been thinking to use some XML-based format to store the personal contacts. Then it will be possible to utilize XML indexes on this data, if searching and ordering is needed. Is this a good approach? Which contacts format and schema would you recommend for this?

• Parsing custom time format with SimpleDateFormat

  I'm having trouble parsing a date format that I'm getting back from an API and that I have never seen (I believe is a custom format). An example of a date: /Date(1353447000000+0000)/ When I first encountered this format it didn't take me long to see that it was the time in milliseconds with a time zone offset. I'm having trouble extracting this date using SimpleDateFormat though. Here was my first attempt: String weirdDate = "/Date(1353447000000+0000)/"; SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat("'/Date('SSSSSSSSSSSSSZ')/'"); Date d1 = sdf.parse(weirdDate); System.out.println(d1.toString()); System.out.println(d1.getTime()); System.out.println(); Date d2 = new Date(Long.parseLong("1353447000000")); System.out.println(d2.toString()); System.out.println(d2.getTime()); And output: Tue Jan 06 22:51:41 EST 1970 532301760 Tue Nov 20 16:30:00 EST 2012 1353447000000 The date (and number of milliseconds parsed) is not even close and I haven't been able to figure out why. After some troubleshooting, I discovered that the way I'm trying to use SDF is clearly flawed. Example: String weirdDate = "1353447000000"; SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat("S"); Date d1 = sdf.parse(weirdDate); System.out.println(d1.toString()); System.out.println(d1.getTime()); And output: Wed Jan 07 03:51:41 EST 1970 550301760 I can't say I've ever tried to use SDF in this way to just parse a time in milliseconds because I would normally use Long.parseLong() and just pass it straight into new Date(long) (and in fact the solution I have in place right now is just a regular expression and parsing a long). I'm looking for a cleaner solution that I can easily extract this time in milliseconds with the timezone and quickly parse out into a date without the messy manual handling. Anyone have any ideas or that can spot the errors in my logic above? Help is much appreciated.

  I'm taking my first crack at AJAX with jQuery. I'm getting my data onto my page, but I'm having some trouble with the JSON that is returned for Date data types. Basically, I'm getting a string back that looks like this: /Date(1224043200000)/ From a total newbie at JSON - How do I format this to a short date format? Should this be handled somewhere in the jQuery code? I've tried the jQuery.UI.datepicker plugin using $.datepicker.formatDate() wiuth no success.   I'm trying to parse a set of lines and extract certain parts of the string based on an initial format (reading a configuration file). A little more explanation: the format can contain up to 4 parts to be formatted. This case, %S will skip the part, %a-%c will extract the part and will be treated as a string, %d as int. • Override decimal ToString() method

  I have a decimal datatype with a precision of (18, 8) in my database and even if its value is simply 14.765 it will still get displayed as 14.76500000 when I use Response.Write to return its value into a webpage. Is it possible to override its default ToString method to return the number in the format #,###,##0.######## so that it only displays relevant decimal places? UPDATE I'm assuming that when one outputs number on a page like <%= item.price %> (where item.price is a number) that the number's ToString method is being called? I'm trying to avoid having to change every instance where the value is displayed by defaulting the ToString() format somehow.

Silverlight Firestarter Indeed All the people mentioned here, and all the MVPs knew Silverlight was NOT dead, but because of a very unfortunate circumstance, the popular media opinion became that. Consequently the Firestarter exploded from a laid-back event to a global conference. People worked their ass off getting bits ready and presentations using those bits. All to stem the flow of misinformation. All involved please accept my personal thanks for an absolutely awesome job. I had the priviledge of watching the 'prep' on Wednesday afternoon, and was blown away the first time I saw the 3D demo... and have been blown away every time I've seen it since. Not to mention all the other goodness in Silverlight 5. Yes I hit 1000 on my blog, but more importantly, all of you are blogging and using Silverlight, and Microsoft hit one completely out of the park... no... they knocked it out of the neighborhood with the Firestarter. It was amazing to be there for it, and it will be awesome to use the new bits as we get them. Keep reading, there's tons more to come with Silverlight and SilverlightCream following along behind.
