  • The Underlying Value of Aspect-Oriented Programming

    Hello, I recently got into PostSharp, an AOP tool for weaving in code. I've been finding a lot of resistance with other developers over giving up writing code to perform the tasks the weaving was meant to simplify. For instance, I'm finding logging or error-handling code where I have postsharp already doing that. I can understand why its happening, since its hard to remember everything that weaving was setup to do (I'm applying a global attribute definition). With that said, factoring in levels of experience, etc, is AOP beneficial to a project? What is your opinion? Thanks.

  • Value of links on negative review pages

    A general assumption with SEO is more links = higher rankings. What I would like to know is does Google know what those links are referring to. I.e. if somebody gives a product a good review on their personal blog and links the review to another companies website (who are selling the product), would Google take consideration for the review/description link. Essentially would Google know that this link refers to a product. So if somebody is looking to buy a product, Google would know to include this page because the previous link said it sells products rather than just having information on products. Then to take this further, does Google know if a link is positive or negative. For example, If somebody creates a post saying, do not visit example.com, example.com is bad because of blah blah blah. Would Google know that the link is getting bad feedback and therefore would it have a negative affect on rankings, or would Google go oh its just another link and give it better rankings?

    Hi, I have got an app I'm going to write in ASP.NET MVC and I want to create a DatabaseFactory object something like this:- public class DatabaseFactory { private string dbConn get { return <gets from config file>; } public IDatabaseTableObject GetDatabaseTable() { IDatabaseTableObject databaseTableObject = new SQLDatabaseObject(dbConn); return databaseTableObject; } } and this works fine, but I obviously have to instantiate the DatabaseFactory in every controller that needs it. If I made this static, so I could, in theory just call DatabaseFactory.GetDatabaseTable() it would cause a memory leak, wouldn't it?

    I'm probably about to buy a laptop, unfortunely they all have glare screen, even the "premium" device, the actual offer just differentiate on 2-3 variations about DPI and display resolution; considering that i would like a 13" laptop, what can be the best resolution? I was looking for a 4:3 but this days they are all cheap-made so i do not think that something expensive to produce like a 4:3 is on the market. on the 13" laptops i see that basically there are available 3 kinds of displays: 1366x768 ( a 16:9 ratio ) 1400x900 ( a 16:10 ratio ) 1600x900 ( a 16:9 ratio ) Honestly i'm asking for an advice because i do not like this things, not even one of them, but this is the market today, i was looking for some old-style laptop with good plastics, a 4:3 ratio or 5:4 or something like that and a true matte finish with an higher resolution compared to what you could find in the old laptops. Since programming involves the presence of many text character on the screen it's a good thing to choose the one with the highest DPI/PPI ?

    hello, i get this error when i retrieve an XML that only has 1 node (no repeating nodes) and i try to store in an ArrayCollection. -When I have MORE than 1 "name" nodes...i do NOT get an error. My test show that XMLListCollection does NOT work either. TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert "XXXXXX" to mx.collections.ArrayCollection. this error occurs as the line of code: myList= e.result.list.name; Why can't ArrayCollection work with a single node? I'm using this ArrayCollection as a dataprovider for a Component -is there an alternative I can use that will take BOTH single and repeating nodes as well as work as a dataprovider?     Hi guys, Just a general question really. I have taken on the management of an application written in C# MVC that uses the asp.net membership api. With this a user can register, change their password, etc. My application consists of two areas, administrator and user. This adminstrator's area has lots of custom admin functionality relating to the application, however has no functionality utilizing the membership api. I want to be able to use the membership api for user management functions such as resetting a password of a user who has forgotten theirs, lock users out, etc. Are there any resources or articles out there that delve into this aspect of using the membership api? Any help would be appreciated :) thanks

  • Quantify value for management

    We have two different legacy systems (window services in this case) that do exactly the same thing. Both of these systems have small differences for the different applications they serve. Both of these system's core functionality lies within a shared library. Most of the time, the updates occur in the shared library and we simply deploy the updated library to both of these systems. The systems themselves rarely change. Since both of these systems do essentially the same thing, our development team would like to consolidate these two systems into a single service. What can I do to convince management to allocate time for such a task? Some of the points I've noted are: Easier maintenance Decrease testing/QA time Unfortunately, this isn't enough. They would like us to provide them with hard numbers on the amount of hours this will save in the future and how this will speed up future development. Since most of the work is done in the shared library and the systems themselves never change, it's hard for us to quantify how many hours this will save. What kind of arguments can I make to justify the extra work to consolidate these systems?
