  • Access variables from a number of sources

    I'm creating my first game, and I've currently set up a 'GameState' class, to store player health etc. inside. This class is currently instantiated from the AppDelegate as I need to access it from all over my game. This is fine. For each class I'm working in, I can access the app delegate, and then find the GameState object... however, it seems very messy. I'm tempted to find a way (I'm still a newbie) to define the GameState instance as being some sort of global variable so that I can access it from all over with ease... but my little bit of reading on variable scope makes me uneasy about doing this, even if I knew how. Any ideas of the best way to define and access this class? It'll be used for everything from player health, to items they've found, any personalisation etc. Thanks!

    I'd like to have a smart auto-completition of currently staged file names when using git diff. Example: modified: DIR1/LongCamelCaseFileName.h modified: DIR1/AnotherLongCamelCaseFileName.m modified: DIR1/AndThereAreALotOfThemInDir1.m modified: DIR2/file4.m and here, using bash tab-auto-complete functionality I'd like to use it with git diff where by smart I mean that after typing git diff I'd need to type only a short part of the staged file name that I want to diff, and without a dirname, so for example git diff And<TAB> would result in git diff AndThereAreALotOfThemInDir1.m Actually, without a dir-ommiting-part it would be still useful (auto-completing using only staged files pool).

  • Processing files with C# in folders whose names contain spaces

    There are plenty of C# samples that show how to manipulate files and directories but they inevitably use folder paths that contain no spaces. In the real world I need to be able to process files in folders with names that contain spaces. I have written the code below which shows how I have solved the problem.   • Authenticate sites with different domain names using the Facebook API

    We have a CMS that supports multiple sites, one of our features allows our users (The site admin) to connect to the site facebook account to allow status updates, create events and upload pictures to FB from with in the CMS. The authentication needs to occur once since each site may have multiple site admins that do not have access to the site FB user name and password. We use iframe and authenticate using $facebook-require_login() which redirects the user to the FB login and authentication pages. All this works just fine but when the user hits "Allow" the authentication will break as it will only redirect to whatever is in the "Post-Authorize Redirect URL" field making the app obsolete for any other domain except the one in the "Post-Authorize Redirect URL" I know other API's authentication methods like in Vimeo and YouTube will allow you to specify a NEXT parameter which is the equivalent of the "Post-Authorize Redirect URL" and it can be set at run time. How can I make this work for multiple domain names? Any hints on this issue will be of great help

  • List the names of existing directories from .tgz file in a bash variable

    I would like to find all the directories that are in a .tgz file and that already exist on the system and put the result in a bash variable. I have tried this: EXISTING=`for f in \`tar tzf $ARCHIVE\`; do if [ -d "/tmp/unpacked-data/\$f" ]; then echo \$f; fi; done` with no luck. If I echo the value of $f before the if in the loop, I get all the files, ie this works: EXISTING=`for f in \`tar tzf $ARCHIVE\`; do echo \$f; done` Can someone tell me why the \$f doesn't work in the if statement?     I have two tables, "name" and "address". I would like to list the last_name and joined address.street_address of all last_name in table "name" that occur more than once in table "name". The two tables are joined on the column "name_id". The desired output would appear like so: 213 | smith | 123 bluebird | 14 | smith | 456 first ave | 718 | smith | 12 san antonia st. | 244 | jones | 78 third ave # 45 | 98 | jones | 18177 toronto place | Note that if the last_name "abernathy" appears only once in table "name", then "abernathy" should not be included in the result. This is what I came up with so far: SELECT name.name_id, name.last_name, address.street_address, count(*) FROM `name` JOIN `address` ON name.name_id = address.name_id GROUP BY `last_name` HAVING count(*) > 1 However, this produces only one row per last name. I'd like all the last names listed. I know I am missing something simple. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

    When creating an sfPropelRouteCollection, how can I edit the action names that the collection will generate? For example: # Routing for "product" CRUD product: class: sfPropelRouteCollection options: model: Product module: product actions: [new, create, edit, update, delete] How can I change the actual action that is called for any of the new/create/edit/update/delete methods? I'd like for them to call "ajaxNew," "ajaxCreate," etc. so the URL would look something like "product/ajaxNew", or the action for "update" would be "ajaxUpdate".     I am using SQLite as my db during development, and I want to postpone actually creating a final database until my domains are fully mapped. So I have this in my Global.asax.cs file: private void InitializeNHibernateSession() { Configuration cfg = NHibernateSession.Init( webSessionStorage, new [] { Server.MapPath("~/bin/MyNamespace.Data.dll") }, new AutoPersistenceModelGenerator().Generate(), Server.MapPath("~/NHibernate.config")); if (ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["DbGen"] == "true") { var export = new SchemaExport(cfg); export.Execute(true, true, false, NHibernateSession.Current.Connection, File.CreateText(@"DDL.sql")); } } The AutoPersistenceModelGenerator hooks up the various conventions, including a TableNameConvention like so: public void Apply(FluentNHibernate.Conventions.Instances.IClassInstance instance) { instance.Table(Inflector.Net.Inflector.Pluralize(instance.EntityType.Name)); } This is working nicely execpt that the sqlite db generated does not have pluralized table names.     Hi! Here's what I'm trying to do. I have an ASP.NET MVC web application, where I'd like to have a separate "admin" area (accessible via http://example.com/admin) and a regular area, available for all users. In both these parts of the site I have a /blogs section, but when accessing http://example.com/admin/blogs I want to be presented with admin interface for blogs, whereas usual http://example.com/blogs should just list all blogs. And the problem itself is: how do I get ASP.NET MVC to instantiate appropriate controllers, provided that there are two BlogsControllers: one in Site.Admin namespace, and the other is in Site.Sitefront namespace? Granted, I could rename admin controller to BlogsAdminController, but I'd like to keep the names as they already are.

    Here is a tricky situation, and i wonder what ways there are to solve it namespace { template <class T> struct Template { /* ... */ }; } typedef Template<int> Template; Sadly, the Template typedef interferes with the Template template in the unnamed namespace. When you try to do Template<float> in the global scope, the compiler raises an ambiguity error between the template name and the typedef name. You don't have control over either the template name or the typedef-name. Now I want to know whether it is possible to: Create an object of the typedefed type Template (i.e Template<int>) in the global namespace. Create an object of the type Template<float> in the global namespace. You are not allowed to add anything to the unnamed namespace. Everything should be done in the global namespace. This is out of curiosity because i was wondering what tricks there are for solving such an ambiguity. It's not a practical problem i hit during daily programming.

  • Why the "mutable default argument fix" syntax is so ugly, asks python newbie

    Now following my series of "python newbie questions" and based on another question. Go to http://python.net/~goodger/projects/pycon/2007/idiomatic/handout.html#other-languages-have-variables and scroll down to "Default Parameter Values". There you can find the following: def bad_append(new_item, a_list=[]): a_list.append(new_item) return a_list def good_append(new_item, a_list=None): if a_list is None: a_list = [] a_list.append(new_item) return a_list So, question here is: why is the "good" syntax over a known issue ugly like that in a programming language that promotes "elegant syntax" and "easy-to-use"? Why not just something in the definition itself, that the "argument" name is attached to a "localized" mutable object like: def better_append(new_item, a_list=[].local): a_list.append(new_item) return a_list I'm sure there would be a better way to do this syntax, but I'm also almost positive there's a good reason to why it hasn't been done. So, anyone happens to know why?

  • Changing folder names in Visual Studio when using SVN

    I am using VS2008/VS2010 with Resharper 5, TortoiseSVN 1.6.8.19260-x64, and AnkhSVN 2.1.8420.8. Most operations I do in Visual Studio are reflected fine in SVN, however, renaming folders in a project can cause problems when I try to submit my changes. Also all the namespaces in the C# source files under the renamed folder need to be updated to reflect the name change. What is the best way to rename the main project folder or any sub folders and ensure there are no issues with SVN? Should it be done outside Visual Studio? What is the best way to update all the namespace changes? Is search/replace the only way? Are there any best practices regarding folder names and their contents?

  • Running out of label names in assembly

    Heyo, My class at college has us writing programs in assembly. I have never truly appreciated the ease of C until now. Now, when I program in assembly, I often have to make while/for/if loops and conditionals with labels eg: SKIP: ... COMP:ADD R1, R1, #0 ;Check for equality BRZ WHILEEND ... ;code inside the while loop JMP COMP ;Return to while loop WHILEEND: ... So, in this while loop (example) I have used 1 label for the subroutine and 2 more for the loop itself. I've run out of good label names for all the loops and branches I'm doing in assembly, what do you guys do to keep it varied and descriptive?

    Hi: I have three tables: Suppliers, Parts and Types. I need to join all of them while discriminating columns with the same name (say, "id") in the three tables. I would like to successfully run this query: CREATE VIEW Everything AS SELECT Suppliers.name as supplier, Parts.id, Parts.description, Types.typedesc as type FROM Suppliers JOIN (Parts JOIN Types ON Parts.type_id = Types.id) ON Suppliers.id = Parts.supplier_id; My DBMS (sqlite) complains that "there is not such a column (Parts.id)". I guess it forgets table names once the JOIN is done but then how can I refer to the column id that belongs to the table Parts?

  • SSRS Multilookup Function for Names with Comma Separation

    I would like to put the following in a a multilookup drop-down in reporting services: "Smith, John", "Jones, Tim", "Kelly, Andy" The comma separating the first and last name prevents the multilookup from working correctly. I am also unable to use ticks (' or ") in reporting service to keep the separating comma from working like a multilookup comma that separates the fields I want to select from. Is there a way to keep the comma in the names while still allowing multilookup? Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!

    ASP.NET MVC has good support for role-based security, but the usage of strings as role names is maddening, simply because they cannot be strongly-typed as enumerations. For example, I have an "Admin" role in my app. The "Admin" string will now exist in the Authorize attribute of my action, in my master page (for hiding a tab), in my database (for defining the roles available to each user), and any other place in my code or view files where I need to perform special logic for admin or non-admin users. Is there a better solution, short of writing my own authorization attribute and filter, that would perhaps deal with a collection of enumeration values?

  • Why prefix sql function names?

    What is a scenario that exemplifies a good reason to use prefixes, such as fn_GetName, on function names in SQL Server? It would seem that it would be unnecessary since usually the context of its usage would make it clear that it's a function. I have not used any other language that has ever needed prefixes on functions, and I can't think of a good scenario that would show why SQL is any different. My only thinking is that perhaps in older IDE's it was useful for grouping functions together when the database objects were all listed together, but modern IDE's already make it clear what is a function.

Unfortunately the tool quoted in the above article (testdox) is Java based. Is there one for .NET? Sounds like this would be something pretty simple to write, but I simply don't have the bandwidth and want to use something already written.

  • AS3: Removing EventListeners without knowing amount or names

First shortly about how my site works: When a link is clicked it checks if something is already displayed in either the Left or Right side of the screen (the website looks like a book, so I have a left page I want to display information on and a right page). If there is already something showing it hides it and displays the new object, together with this it enables all the buttons within that object (I have separate functions to set up each object). An example of such an EventListener would be: pathTo.Button1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, function():void {showText(side, object)}); What I'm trying to do is to remove all the previous set EventListeners without having to create separate functions for removing the links inside every object as well. Shorter version: How do I remove all EventListeners on all objects inside another object? The only variable I want to store is the object containing everything. There are however not always EventListeners within the objects.
