• hidden form element not bound?

  Is it standard/intended behaviour that the value of a hidden form field is not bound to the view model (nor is a query string value)? Example: <%= Html.Hidden("test", "13" )%> if my poco view model contains a property test it should be bound shouldn't it?! i have to set it explicitely in the controller at the moment which kind of defeats the objective doesn't it? bla( formviewmodel m, string test) { m.test = test; } any feedback appreciated. thanks! christian

  Hi, I want to validate my inputs but i can't make it work : nothing appear on the page. My project is in java 5, so no JSR303 (@Valid). My only solution, if i'm not mistaken, is to use BindingResult.   In a HTML form user is expect to fill / select some data and trigger an action probably a http-post. If your only requested data field is a "2 digit" you can use html text input element get some data. Then you want to make it useful; enable user easily select data from a 'html select' But not all of your data is well-ordered so eye-searching within these data is somehow cumbersome. Because your data is meaningful with its relations. If there is no primary key for foreign key "12" it should not be shown. Vice versa if this foreign key occurs a lot, then it has some weight and could be displayed with more importance. So, what will be your way? a) Use text input to get data and validate it with regex, javascript, ... b) Use some dropdown select. c) Any other way ? Any answer will appreciated :)

• Resolving Assemblies, the fuzzy way

  Here's the setup: A pure DotNET class library is loaded by an unmanaged desktop application. The Class Library acts as a plugin. This plugin loads little baby plugins of its own (all DotNET Class Libraries), and it does so by reading the dll into memory as a byte-stream, then Assembly asm = Assembly.Load(COFF_Image); The problem arises when those little baby plugins have references to other dlls. Since they are loaded via the memory rather than directly from the disk, the framework often cannot find these referenced assemblies and is thus incapable of loading them. I can add an AssemblyResolver handler to my project and I can see these referenced assemblies drop past. I have a reasonably good idea about where to find these referenced assemblies on the disk, but how can I make sure that the Assmebly I load is the correct one? In short, how do I reliably go from the System.ResolveEventArgs.Name field to a dll file path, presuming I have a list of all the folders where this dll could be hiding)?

• Storage for large gridded datasets

  I am looking for a good storage format for large, gridded datasets. The application is meteorology, and we would prefer a format that is common within this field (to help exchange data with others). I don't need to deal with special data structures, and there should be a Fortran API. I am currently considering HDF5, GRIB2 and NetCDF4. How do these formats compare in terms of data compression? What are their main limitations? How steep is the learning curve? Are there any other storage formats worth investigating? I have not found a great deal of material outlining the differences and pros/cons of these formats (there is one relevant SO thread, and a presentation comparing GRIB and NetCDF).

• why isn't my id showing up in django admin list?

  Hi all, I have a class Task(models.Model), and i didn't define id field explicitly (since it defines automatically for you). I checked in the database, it exists for the Task. Now i would like to display it in the list via list_display property in admin.ModelAdmin. I have a bunch of things in there, only id is not showing up for any of the rows i have. Everything else works fine. Anyone know anything special i have to do to get id to display? Thanks a lot! Jason

• Entity Framework: Setting EntityReference EntityKey causes exception on save

  I have a table with a ModifiedUserID field that is a foreign key to a User table. In entity framework, I'm loading the first table, but not the users table. I have the user ID of the current user, and would like to set the ModifiedUserID to that value for all entities that have been modified prior to saving. Before calling SaveChanges(), I use the ObjectStateManager to get all modified entities. Since I do not have the user object, but I do have the user ID, I set the EntityReference.EntityKey property as follows: entity.UserReference.EntityKey = New EntityKey("MyContainer.User", "UserID", DatabaseUserID) This works fine, but when I execute SaveChanges(), I receive the following error: A relationship is being added or deleted from an AssociationSet 'FK_Table1_User'. With cardinality constraints, a corresponding 'Table1' must also be added or deleted. Now, I see that setting the EntityReference.EntityKey creates a new AssociationSet entry, but how to I prevent this error?

• How to design this simple database?

  I have 2 tables - one storing user information (id, username, password) and the second one storing information about events (id, name, description, date, username(represents the user who created the event)). I would like to implement 'favourite events' functionality. This would allow the user to store his favourite events and later display them in a list. I am not sure how to implement this in terms of design. I need a simple solution. Something like storing the IDs of favourite events in a field in the user table. I am using mysql and php. Can anyone point me to the right direction?

• Windows server detected error with hard disk

  We have hosting Windows server 2008 R2 and I am working as admin in small company. The server is hanging and restarting as the hard disk seems to be damaged due to power fluctutaion(though having inverter) as it's showing the below error message on server reboot: Problem detected with the hard disk Press any key to continue It's Seagate 1TB SATA hard disk and it's booting after pressing enter. So it's clear that the hard disk is dying. Yes, it's in warranty but it's fact that warranty won't recover the lincesed windows server 2008 and it's data. As it's booting now, I backed up required things and I am thinking to clone the entire hard disk. The first thing it striked me is checking on the Seagate site if any tool available for cloning and I found Seagate DiskWizard but not specified it for windows server 2008. Please anybody could help me giving your best ideas for the below: Urgently, What's the best way(free of cost) for me to clone in my case with the new same sized hard disk? It's a one time lincenced and I cannot use the same key again if I reinstall the server. Will the lincense be carried with new disk if cloned? else there is a way to contact Microsoft explaining the problem occurred, to obtain new key for no charge?. I want to take measure for future. How do I keep two disks in continuous sync? mirrored & raid are the only options converting the disks to dynamic? or is there a best way I could do with no additional charge?. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you! EDIT:1 I started cloning the disk with CloneZilla and it was going proper showing in GUI. But after some time there is no GUI but a black screen with some codes(looks like disk location numbers) going page by page(I have attached the screenshots below captured from my phone). Do you people think it's actually cloning?. I started in the morning and it's evening now. I left the office now to let it finish what it's trying to do and I'll go & check it tomorrow. Slowly lost hope, don't know what face it's going to show tomorrow. Any ideas?

  I am trying to read certain values from a json string in php, I am able to do a simple json string with only one value such as $json = '{"value":"somevalue"}'; Using this: <?php $json = '{"value":"somevalue"}'; $obj = json_decode(json_encode($json)); print $obj->{'value'}; ?> But when i try an get a value from the following json string it throws an error... $json = '{"field": "title","rule": {"required": "true","minlength": "4","maxlength": "150" }}'; I validated the json on JSONlint but not sure how to access the values within this with php. The null value semantics of a component are ad hoc. When reloading the containing object, NHibernate will assume that if all component columns are null, then the entire component is null. This should be okay for most purposes. Can I override this behaviour? I want my Date class to be instantiated even if date is null. Thanks,

• Building an http packet in libnet(tcp packet), Please help us as soon as posible. we are stuck!

  we are building a NAT program,we change each packet that comes from our internal subnet, change it's source IP address by libnet functions.( catch the packet with libpcap, put it sniff structures and build the new packet with libnet) over TCP, the syn/ack packets are good after the change, and when a HTTP-GET request is coming, we can see by wireshark that there is an error on the checksum field.. all the other fields are exactly the same as the original packet. Is anyone knows what can cause this problem? the new checksum in other packets is calculated as it should be.. but in the HTTP packet it doesn't..

• Java CRTP: Works for container but not for methods?

  I have a baseclass with a protected static ArrayList. I want to have a seperate ArrayList for each kind of subclass that extends this baseclass. This is when I applied CRTP: public class BaseExample<T> { protected static ArrayList<Integer> data = new ArrayList<Integer>(); } This works just fine. However, when I try to implement the following static method in the same base class, it doesn't adhere to CRTP: public static void clear() { data.clear(); } For example: class SubExample extends BaseExample<SubExample> { // insertion methods accessing 'data' field // these work fine :) } SubExample.clear(); // does not seem to clear data container Do I need to somehow explicitly specify T in my baseclass clear method? Note: These are all pure static classes.

  Hello, sorry if this questions is overly basic or has been asked before but I simply cannot figure it out. On my Ruby on Rails site, I have a controller that accesses the fields of a table in my database and displays their "Name" field as a drop-down menu in one of my views. My problem is I need to change the options of that dropdown menu so I need a way to get into the MySQL database and change the values of those fields. Anyone know of a way to do this? There is a many to many relationship that has a primary key in one table that corresponds to a comma separated list in another. FK_ID | data ------------- 1,2 | foo 3 | bar 1,3,2 | blarg Is there a way to output the FK_ID field with each comma separated element as a single line in the result set? result set FK_ID | data ------------- 1 | foo 2 | foo 3 | bar 1 | blarg 2 | blarg 3 | blarg I'm thinking this would require some sort of recursive query which I don't think mysql has. • Retrieving Spotlight query used to open document in application

  If you search for something that opens Preview.app (e.g. a PDF file) in Spotlight, the application not only opens the file but actually copies the Spotlight query into the application's search field (for deeper search). iPhoto and Mail.app also do this. This is a really nice feature. Unfortunately, Apple does not document how it's implemented. Opening a document from Spotlight appears to simply send application:openFile to the application delegate. Is it possible to retrieve the user's Spotlight query somehow? Or is this a hardcoded feature of Spotlight?

• Rails: has_many association with a table in another database and without foreign key

  Here is my situation. I have model called Account. An account can have one or more contracts. The problem is that i'm dealing with a legacy application and each account's contracts are stored in a different database. Example: Account 1's contract are in account1_db.contracts. Account 2's contract are in account2_db.contracts. The database name is a field stored in accounts table. How can i make rails association work with this? This is a legacy PHP application and i simply can't change it to store everything in one table. I need to make it work somehow. I tried this, but it didn't worked: has_many :contracts, :conditions => [lambda{ Contract.set_table_name(self.database + '.contracts'); return '1' }] Any ideas?

  Hi All, I am using require 'digest/sha1' to encrypt my password and save into database. During login I authenticate by matching the encrypted password saved in database and again encrypted the one use enter in password field. As of now everything works fine but now I want to do 'Forgot Password' functionality. To do this I need to decrypt the password which is saved in database to find original one. How to decrypt using digest/sha1? Or does anyone know any algorithm which supports encryption & decryption as well? I am using ruby on rails so I need Ruby way to accomplish it.

  I'm using custom WordPress categories for some probably unintended functions, I will admit (things like marking a post no/index just by adding it to my custom "no-index" category, etc). But it sucks that WordPress does not enable pages with all the little extras you get with posts. For example, while the post editor gives you convenient access to Tags, Categories, and a Post excerpt field, pages get left out in the cold. I'd like to know if its possible to add the These items to the Post editor via add_action() directive from a custom theme.
