• Blackberry 507 Erorr

  I didn't think it would be so catastrophic when I typed JavaLoader -usb wipe -a into the command line with my blackberry 8800 test device. It reboots with a 507 error that I can't get rid of. I have Blackberry Desktop Manager 4.6, which is normally what I use to upload my test apps, but this time I go to Application Loader, hitting start gives me that dialog box that shows me the list of 1 USB connection "PIN: xxx" with a password field (which I have no idea of,) then it says "connecting to boot ROM" then stops at the message: A connection to the device can not be established... Now is there a hard physical way of resetting my blackberry 8800, please?

• Storing users in a database

  Im wondering whats the best way of storing different types of users in my database. I am writing an application that has 4 main user types (admin, school, teacher, student). At the moment I have a table for each of these but i'm not sure thats the best way of storing user information. For instance... Allowing students to PM other student is simple (store sender and receiver student_id) but enabling teachers to PM students requires another table (sender teacher_id, sender student_id). Should all users be stored in one users table with a user_type field? If so, the teacher / student specific information will still have to be stored in another table. users user_id, password_hash, user_type students user_id, student_specific_stuff... teachers user_id, teacher_specific_stuff... How do I stop a user who has a user_type = student from being accidentally being entered into the teachers table (as both have a user_id) Just want to make sure I get the database correct before i go any further. • Java source code generation frameworks

  I have a set of Java 5 source files with old-style Doclet tags, comments and annotations. And based on that I would like to write a generator for another set of Java classes. What is the best way to do that? And are there any good standalone libraries for code analysis/generation in Java? Any shared exprience in this field is appreciated. So, far I have found these: JaxME's Java Source Reflection - seems good, but it does not seem to support annotations. Also it had no release since 2006. Annogen - uses JDK's Doclet generator, which has some bugs under 1.5 JDK. Also it had no releases for a long time. Javaparser - seems good as well and pretty recent, but only supports Visitor pattern for a single class i.e. no query mechanism like in the 2 above packages.

• Storage for large gridded datasets

  I am looking for a good storage format for large, gridded datasets. The application is meteorology, and we would prefer a format that is common within this field (to help exchange data with others). I don't need to deal with special data structures, and there should be a Fortran API. I am currently considering HDF5, GRIB2 and NetCDF4. How do these formats compare in terms of data compression? What are their main limitations? How steep is the learning curve? Are there any other storage formats worth investigating? I have not found a great deal of material outlining the differences and pros/cons of these formats (there is one relevant SO thread, and a presentation comparing GRIB and NetCDF).

• MS SQL Server 2000 tables

  We currently have an MS SQL Server 2000 database with one table containing data for multiple users. The data is keyed by memberid which is an integer field. The table has a clustered index on memberid. The table is now about 200 million rows. Indexing and maintenance are becoming issues. We are debating splitting the table into one table per user model. This would imply that we would end up with a very large number of tables potentially upto the 2,147,483,647, considering just positive values. My questions: 1) Does anyone have any experience with a MS SQL Server (2000/2005) installation with millions of tables? 2) What are the implications of this architecture with regards to maintenance and access using Query Analyzer, Enterprise Manager etc. 3) What are the implications to having such a large number of indexes in a database instance. • How do I make a sql query where fields are the result of a different query?

  I have two tables, the first is like this: f1 | f2 | f3 | f4 ----------------- data.... the second contains info about the fields of the first: field | info ------------ f1 a f2 b f3 a etc. I would like to query the first table selecting the fields with a query on the second. So, for example, I might want to get data for fields where info is equal to "a", thus I would do "select f1, f3 from first_table". How do I do this programmatically? I was thinking about something along the lines of select (select fields from second_table where info='a') from first_table Thanks Chris

• Are memory barriers necessary for atomic reference counting shared immutable data?

  I have some immutable data structures that I would like to manage using reference counts, sharing them across threads on an SMP system. Here's what the release code looks like: void avocado_release(struct avocado *p) { if (atomic_dec(p->refcount) == 0) { free(p->pit); free(p->juicy_innards); free(p); } } Does atomic_dec need a memory barrier in it? If so, what kind of memory barrier? Additional notes: The application must run on PowerPC and x86, so any processor-specific information is welcomed. I already know about the GCC atomic builtins. As for immutability, the refcount is the only field that changes over the duration of the object.

• Retrieving Spotlight query used to open document in application

  If you search for something that opens Preview.app (e.g. a PDF file) in Spotlight, the application not only opens the file but actually copies the Spotlight query into the application's search field (for deeper search). iPhoto and Mail.app also do this. This is a really nice feature. Unfortunately, Apple does not document how it's implemented. Opening a document from Spotlight appears to simply send application:openFile to the application delegate. Is it possible to retrieve the user's Spotlight query somehow? Or is this a hardcoded feature of Spotlight?

• Google Analytics & Event Trackers - how to get traffic source by event?

  I'm using a google events tracker like this: _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-1422398-23']); _gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'BookingRequest', 'Parent Name', $('#parent_fname').val()+' '.$('#parent_lname').val()]); In this case, let's say I can track how many requests were submitted.. is there a way to track these specific users, and see the traffic source, and if it's Google, then what keywords they searched my website by? Basically I want to see the people booking online, and see how and where they got me... and hoping there's a better and more elegant way than to have a field that asks "What did you type into Google to find us?"

• Entity Framework: Setting EntityReference EntityKey causes exception on save

  I have a table with a ModifiedUserID field that is a foreign key to a User table. In entity framework, I'm loading the first table, but not the users table. I have the user ID of the current user, and would like to set the ModifiedUserID to that value for all entities that have been modified prior to saving. Before calling SaveChanges(), I use the ObjectStateManager to get all modified entities. Since I do not have the user object, but I do have the user ID, I set the EntityReference.EntityKey property as follows: entity.UserReference.EntityKey = New EntityKey("MyContainer.User", "UserID", DatabaseUserID) This works fine, but when I execute SaveChanges(), I receive the following error: A relationship is being added or deleted from an AssociationSet 'FK_Table1_User'. With cardinality constraints, a corresponding 'Table1' must also be added or deleted. Now, I see that setting the EntityReference.EntityKey creates a new AssociationSet entry, but how to I prevent this error?

  Hi All, I am using require 'digest/sha1' to encrypt my password and save into database. During login I authenticate by matching the encrypted password saved in database and again encrypted the one use enter in password field. As of now everything works fine but now I want to do 'Forgot Password' functionality. To do this I need to decrypt the password which is saved in database to find original one. How to decrypt using digest/sha1? Or does anyone know any algorithm which supports encryption & decryption as well? I am using ruby on rails so I need Ruby way to accomplish it.

• Is it safe to display user input as input values without sanitation?

  Say we have a form where the user types in various info. We validate the info, and find that something is wrong. A field is missing, invalid email, et cetera. When displaying the form to the user again I of course don't want him to have to type in everything again so I want to populate the input fields. Is it safe to do this without sanitation? If not, what is the minimum sanitation that should be done first? And to clearify: It would of course be sanitized before being for example added to a database or displayed elsewhere on the site.

  Hello I am using ibatis and C#. i get a result from a select query that has CreatedDate as one of the field. The Datatype of CreatedDate in Mysql is Date. I assign the result set of the select query to a Ilist< DeliveryClass **. Here the DeliveryClass CreatedDate as DateTime. When i run the application, i get **Unable to convert MySQL date/time value to System.DateTime. What could be the problem?

• How do I programmatically nullify a File Attachment in InfoPath Forms

  Howdy all, I'm running into a problem with some InfoPath C# code while trying to remove an attachment from a form. Basically the process is: User opens form User clicks button File attachment is cleared I've tried adding a blank attachment to my schema that never becomes populated, then setting the original field's value equal to that value by the method below. When debugging the form I catch an error: Schema validation found non-data type errors. After i have enter the search string in the text field whenever i click the search button it highlight the search terms which is available in the text area and focus the search term in text area. I have try to do this by using jquery. But in mozilla,I can't get the focus to the search term at the time of search. I have to scroll down the text area for find the focused search term. In I.E. also it doesn't work properly. Otherwise if any post related to highlight search term in text area is also appreciable. Please guide me to achieve this.

  Hello, I am trying to open the SMS/MMS app on the iPhone and have an image that is saved in the camera roll pre loaded into the text field. Is this possible? • Is it possible to use Sphinx search with dynamic conditions?

  In my web app I need to perform 3 types of searching on items table with the following conditions: items.is_public = 1 (use title field for indexing) - a lot of results can be retrieved(cardinality is much higher than in other cases) items.category_id = {X} (use title + private_notes fields for indexing) - usually less than 100 results items.user_id = {X} (use title + private_notes fields for indexing) - usually less than 100 results I can't find a way to make Sphinx work in all these cases, but it works well in 1st case. Should I use Sphinx just for the 1st case and use plain old "slow" FULLTEXT searching in MySQL(at least because of lower cardinality in 2-3 cases)? Or is it just me and Sphinx can do pretty much everything?

• How can I possibly sort this in JavaScript?

  I've been pounding my head on the wall trying to figure out how to sort this in JavaScript (I have to work with it in this format unfortunately). I need to sort it based on Small, Medium, Large, XL, XXL (Small ranking the highest) in each variationValues size field.   I am trying to read certain values from a json string in php, I am able to do a simple json string with only one value such as $json = '{"value":"somevalue"}'; Using this: <?php $json = '{"value":"somevalue"}'; $obj = json_decode(json_encode($json)); print $obj->{'value'}; ?> But when i try an get a value from the following json string it throws an error... $json = '{"field": "title","rule": {"required": "true","minlength": "4","maxlength": "150" }}'; I validated the json on JSONlint but not sure how to access the values within this with php. • Use JS to add characters into textfield

  I want to add a $ symbol before a users entry into a text field without actually submitting the $ when the user clicks submit. Additionally, I need to prohibit the user from entering anything but numerical values in to the text input. I know about the JQuery input mask (http://www.conetrees.com/2009/03/blog/jquery-masked-input-plugin-increase-usability-for-masked-format-input-fields) but this plugin requires you to set the exact number of digits/letters that the user is supposed to enter, which is no good for my current project. Can anyone think of a way to accomplish what I have described above?

• Maximum number of bytes that can be sent on a TCP connection

  I initially assumed that since tcp has a sequence number field of 32 bits and each byte sent on a tcp connection is labeled with a unique number, maximum number of bytes that can be sent on a tcp connection is about 2^32-1 or 2^32-2 (which?). but now I feel that since TCP is a sliding window protocol, the wraparound of sequence numbers during the connection should not have an affect on the maximum number of bytes that can be sent over a tcp connection as long as the when wraparound occurs the old packet is no longer in the network (it is sent after 2*MSL). What is the correct answer?

  I try to use this: xml2struct when I use this xml: <XMLname attrib1="Some value"> <Element>Some text</Element> <DifferentElement attrib2="2">Some more text</DifferentElement> <DifferentElement attrib3="2" attrib4="1">Even more text</DifferentElement> </XMLname> I can create a struct: test = xml2struct('C:\bla\bla.xml'); (tested it with class(test)) It looks like this: test = Name: 'XMLname' Attributes: [1x1 struct] Data: '' Children: [1x7 struct] But I cannot access: test.XMLname.Element.Text I get: ??? Reference to non-existent field 'XMLname'. Any ideas?
