• In an iPad SplitView, how do I add a Date Picker control to the Root View?

  I'm diving into iPhone OS development on the iPad and one of the things I'm playing with is the SplitView template. The template provides a window with a UISplitView view, containing the Root View (on the left of the window) and the Detail View (on the right of the window). The Root View is a subclass of a TableView. Rather than having the entire Root View consist of a TableView, I'd like it to contain a DatePicker view along with the TableView under it. When I go into IB and try and drop a DatePicker into the Root View, it won't let me. It will only let me add a DatePicker view to the Detail View. Why wont IB let me drop a DatePicker view into the Root View? How can I add a DatePicker to the RootView in addition to the TableView? I'm still learning this new platform, so I apologize if these questions are absurd in any way. Thanks so much in advance for your help, I'm going to continue researching these questions right now.

• getting a job in game industry as a developer, just knowing a game engine

  I recently enrolled at a community college for game developement. But I am skeptical about the circulum. I have no experience in the gaming industry so I wouldnt be able to tell rather its a good investment or not. So I am asking you. I dont want to get too much into detail of all the classes I am taking so I will try to be brief. By the time I graduate, I should have a understanding of how a game engine works. I will be working with the unreal engine to develop a Multiplayer game from scratch. So in the process of my final project, I will learn how to work within the unreal engine, Learn python and learn how to use it's API to connect to a remote server and build game mechanics. Overall I will also recieve a associates degree in game development. I learn c++ but not c. The director said he was trying to implement c in the program as well. What I notice is I will not learn how to build a 3d game engine from scratch. They do not teach any AI. I will not learn how to work with the graphics card using a graphic's api such as DirectX or OpenGL. I know building a game engine from scratch is a little complex, but at the same time the track is requireing me to take some advances math courses such a calculus and geotomtry 1 and 2. I also got to take a physic class. I just think thats a little much for just learning how to use the unreal engine but not actually build one or try to learn the anatomy of a game engine. Is this good enough to possibly land my a job in the insdustry. If I left anything out or was not detail, please feel free to ask more questions. Thanks Guys!!

• Negative ItemCount in SharePoint Document Library

  What can be done about negative numbers in library item counts? ItemCount is a read-only property, what are you supposed to do when it is drastically incorrect? Earlier last week, I was doing some testing involving the copying and moving of files and folders from one document library to another. I was transfering the items from our actual document library to a sandbox "Test" library that I used to run all sorts of object model and workflow testing in before migrating to the public lists and libraries. I noticed that with files, things worked correctly, but when I copied a folder that had a file inside it (using SPFolder.CopyTo()), the item count for the test library did not actually update. Since this testing was mostly playing around, I paid it little heed. Today I was back in the test library to test a different workflow (regarding PDF conversion). While I was there, I decided to delete the folder I left last week since I didn't need it anymore. And that's when I saw the item count for the list drop to -1 in the All Site Content View. When I deleted the new PDF I had just uploaded, it then dropped to -2! I even checked with the object model... getting an instance of the library I checked the ItemCount property... lo and behold it was also -2. Is there any process which runs in the background, kinda like the one that cleans up workflow history, which will correct this kind of issue? Or is a programmer expected to keep watch for this kind of situation and come up with calculations to compensate the "count penalty", as it were?

  Hello, Why is the first element in my combobox popup menu not shown in the selected item area of my combobox , when I use the SelectedItem binding? Without that it is showing up ?? • WPF: Adorner Hit Testing / MouseDown Event

  Hello, I have an Adorner which adornes a Border (please see screenshot below). The MouseDown Event for the Adorner is however only raised, when clicking on an element in the adorner. I need the MouseDown Event to be raised, when clicking on any place in the adorner above the adorned element. How can this be done? Do I have to add an transparent control in the adorner or is there another way for this? Thanks for any help!   Hi, I'm looking for a soultion of the following problem: _The is a list of links with different types of cars. _The user can click on each car in the list and a ajax request should be sent. _The response of the ajax request should be dependent on the id (of each car) and displayed in an panelGroup. So what I need is a possibility to call a method on the backing-bean. Additionally, this method should be called with a car id as its parameter. • CSS overflow: hidden; does not work

  Hi - I am having issues with overflow: hidden not working in my case. I have a div id=ticker which basically works like a scrolling ticker. something like this - http://www.tinymassive.com/ (whats happening section).   I'm trying to understand how a background image is used in a css button. It seems the image is much larger than the button, still the corners are matched to the button(resulting a rounded corner button). It seems it is related to .btn *. I couldn't find any reference about how * can be used. Can you explain how the image is rendered in the button, using the * tag? I assume * will match any element. • Instructions on using TortoiseGit to interact with an SVN repository?

  I've been using TortoiseSVN on Windows for years with local filesystem repositories for my own projects. I'm planning to start collaborating with a friend on one of the projects, and will be shifting the repository to my own website. I've read a lot of "git beats SVN!" posts over the last couple years, and figured I ought to at least see what the fuss was about. Some research turned up the "git svn" command, and that TortoiseGit claims to have some level of git-svn support. I like the idea of keeping the SVN repository, and doing some local commits or branches with git before committing them to the repository. The "shelve" command also sounds useful. Unfortunately, while there's a number of CLI git-svn tutorials, there's nothing for TortoiseGit (which admittedly seems to be still in early development). As a result, I'm having problems trying to figure out what workflow I need to get these pieces to cooperate. I have an SVN repository in D:\Projects\repositories\MyProject. I created D:\Projects\temp\gittest, and tried to do a TortoiseGit "Git Clone" of the repository. From there, I've had issues trying to indicate the location of the trunk/branches/tags folders (which are just the standard layout in my repository). I was only able to get useful results when I left those unchecked. When I did seem to get the git repository started correctly, I was able to make some changes and do a couple git commits, but then had problems doing an SVN DCommit. So, I'm hoping someone out there can provide a reasonably detailed set of instructions on how to correctly use TortoiseGit with an existing SVN repository (with the repository on either the local filesystem or on a remote server). No "don't use SVN!" responses, please - I'm interested in learning how to get these two pieces to work together. If you feel TortoiseGit's SVN support isn't mature enough to make this work, that would also be useful information. Thanks!

  Hi I am trying to send some text in an email from my cocoa app (by using Mail.app). Initially I tried using HTML to send properly formatted text.   I have a css table setup like this: <div class='table'> <div> <span>name</span> <span>details</span> </div> </div> The css for the table is: .table{ display:table; width:100%; } .table div{ text-align:right; display:table-row; border-collapse: separate; border-spacing: 0px; } .table div span:first-child { text-align:right; } .table div span { vertical-align:top; text-align:left; display:table-cell; padding:2px 10px; } As it stands the two columns are split evenly between the space occupied by the width of the table. I'm trying to get the first column only to be as wide as is needed by the text occupying it's cells The table is an unknown width, as are the columns/cells.

• In the Xcode SplitView template for an iPad app, how do I add a Date Picker control to the Root View

  I'm diving into iPhone OS development on the iPad and one of the things I'm playing with is the SplitView template. The template provides a window with a UISplitView view, containing the Root View (on the left of the window) and the Detail View (on the right of the window). The Root View is a subclass of a TableView. Rather than having the entire Root View consist of a TableView, I'd like it to contain a DatePicker view along with the TableView under it. When I go into IB and try and drop a DatePicker into the Root View, it won't let me. It will only let me add a DatePicker view to the Detail View. Why wont IB let me drop a DatePicker view into the Root View? How can I add a DatePicker to the RootView in addition to the TableView? I'm still learning this new platform, so I apologize if these questions are absurd in any way. Thanks so much in advance for your help, I'm going to continue researching these questions right now.

• UIScrollView with pages enabled and device rotation/orientation changes (MADNESS)

  I'm having a hard time getting this right. I've got a UIScrollView, with paging enabled. It is managed by a view controller (MainViewController) and each page is managed by a PageViewController, its view added as a subview of the scrollView at the proper offset. Scrolling is left-right, for standard orientation iPhone app. Works well. Basically exactly like the sample provided by Apple and also like the Weather app provided with the iPhone. However, when I try to support other orientations, things don't work very well. I've supported every orientation in both MainViewController and PageViewController with this method: - (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)interfaceOrientation { return YES; } However, when I rotate the device, my pages become quite skewed, and there are lots of drawing glitches, especially if only some of the pages have been loaded, then I rotate, then scroll more, etc... Very messy. I've told my views to support auto-resizing with theView.autoresizingMask = UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleWidth | UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleHeight; But to no avail. It seems to just stretch and distort my views. In my MainViewController, I added this line in an attempt to resize all my pages' views: - (void)didRotateFromInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)fromInterfaceOrientation { self.scrollView.contentSize = CGSizeMake(self.scrollView.frame.size.width * ([self.viewControllers count]), self.scrollView.frame.size.height); for (int i = 0; i < [self.viewControllers count]; i++) { PageViewController *controller = [self.viewControllers objectAtIndex:i]; if ((NSNull *)controller == [NSNull null]) continue; NSLog(@"Changing frame: %d", i); CGRect frame = self.scrollView.frame; frame.origin.x = frame.size.width * i; frame.origin.y = 0; controller.view.frame = frame; } } But it didn't help too much (because I lazily load the views, so not all of them are necessarily loaded when this executes). I could not find a way to force that field in the Tablix not to grow horizontally, so I attempted to remedy it in the dataset by replacing the NewProductDesc line with: ltrim(rtrim(FP.NEW_PRODUCTNAME)) AS NewProductDesc However, that has no effect either. Can anyone suggest why this behavior is occuring? Can anyone tell me how I can force the field not to grow horizontally?

• Jquery – Disable/unbind click on active items, rebind click when inactive

  I have a left-positioned navigation that shows/hides content on the right. Currently, when you click a link, it fades in the corresponding content on the right and adds an active class to that link. My problem is that if you click the active link again, the content on the right keeps on fading in again. I would like to unbind that click while the link is active, and if you click on another navigation link (subsequently removing the class from the previous link and adding it to the current one) rebind the click event to all inactive links.   Hey there. I'm writing an application in WPF using the MVVM-pattern and will really often use TextBoxes. I don't want to use labels for the user to know user what the text box is for, i.e. I don't want something like this: <TextBlock> Name: </TextBlock> <TextBox /> Instead, I would like the TextBox to contain its own label. Statically, you would express it like this: <TextBox>Name</TextBox> If the cursor is displayed in the textbox, i.e. the TextBox gains focus, I want the description text to disappear. If the TextBox is left empty and it loses the focus, the description text should be shown again. It's similar to the search textbox of StackOverflow or the one of Firefox. (please tell me if your not sure what I mean). One TextBox's label may change at runtime, dependending on e.g. a ComboBox's selected element or a value in my ViewModel. (It's like in Firefox's search TextBox, if you select google from the search engins' menu, the TextBox's label changes to "Google", if you select "Yahoo" its set to "Yahoo"). Thus I want to be able to bind the label's content. Consider that I may already have a Binding on the Text-Property of the TextBox. How can implement such a behaviour and make it reusable for any of my TextBox's? Code is welcome but not needed; a description of what to do is enough. Thank you in advance.

• Android's EditText is hidden when the virtual keyboard is shown and a SurfaceView is involved

  I have a simple user interface: an EditText should be located below a SurfaceView. I use a RelativeLayout to arrange these two views. Now, when I tap on the EditText to open the virtual keyboard the SurfaceView slides up but the EditText is hidden and does not show the typed string. To reproduce, use the following layout XML code: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@+id/RelativeLayout01" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_width="fill_parent"> <SurfaceView android:id="@+id/SurfaceView01" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content"> </SurfaceView> <EditText android:id="@+id/EditText01" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_alignParentLeft="true" android:layout_alignParentBottom="true" android:selectAllOnFocus="true" android:textStyle="normal" android:singleLine="true"> </EditText> </RelativeLayout> The main Activity class only needs to show the layout.   I'm trying to create an icon/widget (1 cell x 1 cell) that can be placed on the home screen of android. The widget will look and act exactly like the other standard shortcuts in android. It will have an icon and under that a label, it will be selectable with the trackball (highlight able) it will be highlighted when it is selected/clicked. How do I go about creating this home screen widget? Do I have to create the widget myself using code/xml or is there some standard xml, style, theme, code that I can use to ensure that the widget will have the same style/theme as the other home screen widgets? • WPF unwanted grid splitter behaviour

  Hello, I have a simple grid with 3 columns (one of which contains a grid splitter). When resizing the grid and the left column reaches its minimum width, instead of doing nothing it increases the width of the right column. Could anyone help me stop this? I can't set the max width of the right column, because the grid itself also resizes. Here's some sample code that shows the problem.   Ok, I am pretty experienced at CSS but at this point I am at a loss. I layed out how I want the title to look like in photoshop: however, the closest I can approach it with css is: I need the black background to extend to the edges of the image and padding on the right side of the title. • Rewind request body stream

  I am re-implementing a request logger as Owin Middleware which logs the request url and body of all incoming requests. I am able to read the body, but if I do the body parameter in my controller is null. I'm guessing it's null because the stream position is at the end so there is nothing left to read when it tries to deserialize the body. I had a similar issue in a previous version of Web API but was able to set the Stream position back to 0. This particular stream throws a This stream does not support seek operations exception. In the most recent version of Web API 2.0 I could call Request.HttpContent.ReadAsStringAsync()inside my request logger, and the body would still arrive to the controller in tact. • How to align Buttons in a TableLayout to different directions?

  Hello, probably I don't understand the layout properties of TableLayout yet. It doesn't seem to be possible to achieve such a flexible table like in HTML, because there are no cells. My target is it to achieve such a layout: Link to draft How can I do that? I thought about using a GridView but this doesn't seem to be useful in XML. • Linking to MSVC DLL from MinGW

  I'm trying to link the LizardTech GeoExpress DSDK into my own application. I use gcc so that we can compile on for platforms. On Linux and Mac this works easily: they provide a static library (libltidsdk.a) and headers and all that we have to do is use them. Compiling for windows isn't so easy. They've built the library using Microsoft Visual Studio, and we use MinGW. I've read the MinGW FAQ, and I'm running into the problems below. The library is all C++, so my first question: is this even possible? Just linking against the dll as provided yields "undefined reference" errors for all of the C++ calls (constructors, desctructors, methods, etc). Based on the MinGW Wiki: http://www.mingw.org/wiki/MSVC%5Fand%5FMinGW%5FDLLs I should be able to use the utility reimp to convert a .lib into something useable. I've tried all of the .lib files provided by LizardTech, and they all give "invalid or corrupt import library". I've tried both version 0.4 and 0.3 of the reimp utility. Using the second method described in the wiki, I've run pexport and dlltool over the dll to get a .a archive, but that produces the same undefined references. BTW: I have read the discussion below. It left some ambiguity as to whether this is possible, and given the MinGW Wiki page it seems like this should be doable. If it is impossible, that's all I need to know.
