• Make JFace Window blink in taskbar or get users attention?

  Hi folks I wonder someone has any idea how to solve this: In my Java Eclipse plugin there are some processes which take some time. Therefore the user might minimize the window and let the process run in the background. Now, when the process is finished, I can force the window to come to the top again, but that is a no-no in usability. I'd rather want the process to blink in the taskbar instead. Is there any way to achieve this? I had a look at the org.eclipse.jface.window but could'nt find anything like that, same goes for the SWT documentation... Another thing which came to my mind - as people are using this app on mac os x and linux as well, is there a platform independant solution, which will inform the user that the process has finished but without bringing the window to the top? Any ideas are highly welcome! Edit: I found out that on windows the user can adjust whether he would like to enable a force to foreground or not. If that option is disabled, the task will just blink in the taskbar... Here's a good read on that... If anyone maybe knows about some platform independant way of achieving this kind of behaviour, please share your knowledge with me!

• What makes people think that NNs have more computational power than existing models?

  I've read in Wikipedia that neural-network functions defined on a field of arbitrary real/rational numbers (along with algorithmic schemas, and the speculative `transrecursive' models) have more computational power than the computers we use today. Of course it was a page of russian wikipedia (ru.wikipedia.org) and that may be not properly proven, but that's not the only source of such.. rumors Now, the thing that I really do not understand is: How can a string-rewriting machine (NNs are exactly string-rewriting machines just as Turing machines are; only programming language is different) be more powerful than a universally capable U-machine? Yes, the descriptive instrument is really different, but the fact is that any function of such class can be (easily or not) turned to be a legal Turing-machine. Am I wrong? Do I miss something important? What is the cause of people saying that? I do know that the fenomenum of undecidability is widely accepted today (though not consistently proven according to what I've read), but I do not really see a smallest chance of NNs being able to solve that particular problem. Add-in: Not consistently proven according to what I've read - I meant that you might want to take a look at A. Zenkin's (russian mathematician) papers after mid-90-s where he persuasively postulates the wrongness of G. Cantor's concepts, including transfinite sets, uncountable sets, diagonalization method (method used in the proof of undecidability by Turing) and maybe others. Even Goedel's incompletness theorems were proven in right way in only 21-st century.. That's all just to plug Zenkin's work to the post cause I don't know how widespread that knowledge is in CS community so forgive me if that did look stupid. Thank you!

• Deploy GWT Application to Google App Engine using NetBeans

  Hello, I try to deploy a GWT application, to Google App Engine using NetBeans. I had successful run GWT sample http://code.google.com/webtoolkit/doc/latest/tutorial/create.html using Personal GlassFish v3 Prelude Domain, by 1) Copy generated source code from StockWatcher to C:\Projects\StockWatcherNetbeans\src\java\com\google\ 2) Modify C:\Projects\StockWatcherNetbeans\nbproject\gwt.properties gwt.module=com.google.gwt.stockwatcher.StockWatcher 3) Select Personal GlassFish v3 Prelude Domain, and run. All works fine! Now, I try to select Google App Engine server, and run. However, I get the error "There is no appengine web project opened!" I check... There is file called C:\Projects\StockWatcherNetbeans\war\WEB-INF\appengine-web.xml with content <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <appengine-web-app xmlns="http://appengine.google.com/ns/1.0" xmlns:xsi='http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance' xsi:schemaLocation='http://kenai.com/projects/nbappengine/downloads/download/schema/appengine-web.xsd appengine-web.xsd'> <application>StockWatcherNetbeans</application> <version>1</version> </appengine-web-app> I am using NetBeans 6.7.1 GWT4NB (GWT Plugin for NetBeans) 2.6.12 Google App Engine plugin for NetBeans from http://kenai.com/downloads/nbappengine/1.0_NetBeans671/updates.xml Anything I had missed out? Even when I right click to the project, the Deploy to Google App Engine options is disabled. And yes, please do not ask me why not use Eclipse.

I'd like to reuse this code in a JPA project, having no hibernate.cfg.xml file (and no .properties file), but a persistence.xml file (autodetected in the META-INF directory as specified by the JPA spec). I tried this too simple adaptation, Configuration cfg = new AnnotationConfiguration(); cfg.configure(); but it failed with that exception. Exception in thread "main" org.hibernate.HibernateException: /hibernate.cfg.xml not found Has anybody done that? Thanks.

  I'm learning to use Google App Engine, I installed it in Netbeans, the project works, but when I clicked on "Deploy To Google App Engine", I got the following error : Beginning server interaction for ... 0% Creating staging directory 5% Scanning for jsp files. 8% Compiling jsp files. 11% Compiling java files. Error Details: Apr 20, 2010 3:51:23 PM org.apache.jasper.JspC processFile INFO: Built File: \PayPal_Monitor.jsp java.lang.IllegalStateException: cannot find javac executable based on java.home, tried "C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin\javac.exe" and "C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\bin\javac.exe" Unable to update app: cannot find javac executable based on java.home, tried "C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin\javac.exe" and "C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\bin\javac.exe" Please see the logs [C:\Users\NM\AppData\Local\Temp\appcfg3946701335172983337.log] for further information. The file "javac.exe" is in : C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.6.0_18\bin How can I add it to "java.home" ? • Same jQuery code returns two different results – Submit Button Text

  I have two jQuery codes - http://jsfiddle.net/Lijo/CXGX7/7/ and http://jsfiddle.net/Lijo/CXGX7/8/ . The first code returns undefined whereas the second code returns text of button. QUESTIONS What is the reason for this difference in result? Why is the first code not returning expected text of button? • How to store child objects on GAE using JDO from Scala

  Hi, I'm have a parent-child relation between 2 classes, but the child objects are never stored. I do get an warning: "org.datanucleus.store.appengine.MetaDataValidator checkForIllegalChildField: Unable to validate relation net.vermaas.kivanotify.model.UserCriteria.internalCriteria" but it is unclear to me why this occurs. Already tried several alternatives without luck. The parent class is "UserCriteria" which has a List of "Criteria" as children. • What are the common compliance standards for software products?

  This is a very generic question about software products. I would like to know what compliance standards are applicable to any software product. I know that question gives away nothing. So, here is an example to what I am referring to. CiSecurity Security Certification/Compliance lists out products ceritified by them to be compliant to the standards published at their website, i.e, cisecurity.org. Compliance could be as simple as answering a questionnaire for your product and approved by a thirdparty like cisecurity or it could apply to your whole organization, for instance, PCI-DSS compliance. I would be very interested in knowing the standards that products you know/designed/created, comply to. To give you the context behind this question: I am the developer of a data-masking tool. The said tool helps mask onscreen html text in a banking web application using filters. So, for instance, if the bank application lists out user information with ssn, my product when integrated with the banking product, automatically identifies ssn pattern and masks it into a pre-defined format.So, I have my product marketing team wanting more buzz words like compliance to be able to sell it to more banking clients. Hence, understanding "compliances that apply to products" is a key research item for me at this point. By which I meant, security compliances. Appreciate all your help and suggestions.

• Jboss 6 Cluster Singleton Clustered

  I am trying to set up a Jboss 6 in a clustered environment, and use it to host clustered stateful singleton EJBs. So far we succesfully installed a Singleton EJB within the cluster, where different entrypoints to our application (through a website deployed on each node) point to a single environment on which the EJB is hosted (thus mantaining the state of static variables). We achieved this using the following configuration: Bean interface: @Remote public interface IUniverse { ... } Bean implementation: @Clustered @Stateful public class Universe implements IUniverse { private static Vector<String> messages = new Vector<String>(); ... } jboss-beans.xml configuration: <deployment xmlns="urn:jboss:bean-deployer:2.0"> <!-- This bean is an example of a clustered singleton --> <bean name="Universe" class="Universe"> </bean> <bean name="UniverseController" class="org.jboss.ha.singleton.HASingletonController"> <property name="HAPartition"><inject bean="HAPartition"/></property> <property name="target"><inject bean="Universe"/></property> <property name="targetStartMethod">startSingleton</property> <property name="targetStopMethod">stopSingleton</property> </bean> </deployment> The main problem for this implementation is that, after the master node (the one that contains the state of the singleton EJB) shuts down gracefuly, the Singleton's state is lost and reset to default. Please note that everything was constructed following the JBoss 5 Clustering documents, as no JBoss 6 documents were found on this subject. Any information on how to solve this problem or where to find JBoss 6 documention on clustering is appreciated.

• Mapping enum with fluent nhibernate

  I am following the http://wiki.fluentnhibernate.org/Getting%5Fstarted tutorial to create my first NHibernate project with Fluent NHibernate I have 2 tables 1) Account with fields Id AccountHolderName AccountTypeId 2) AccountType with fields Id AccountTypeName Right now the account types can be Savings or Current So the table AccountTypes stores 2 rows 1 - Savings 2 - Current For AccoutType table I have defined enum public enum AccountType { Savings=1, Current=2 } For Account table I define the entity class public class Account { public virtual int Id {get; private set;} public virtual string AccountHolderName {get; set;} public virtual string AccountType {get; set;} } The fluent nhibernate mappings are: public AgencyMap() { Id(o => o.Id); Map(o => o.AccountHolderName); Map(o => o.AccountType); } When I try to run the solution, it gives an exception - InnerException = {"(XmlDocument)(2,4): XML validation error: The element 'class' in namespace 'urn:nhibernate-mapping-2.2' has incomplete content. List of possible elements expected: 'meta, subselect, cache, synchronize, comment, tuplizer, id, composite-id' in namespace 'ur... I guess that is because I have not speciofied any mapping for AccountType. The questions are: How can I use AccountType enum instead of a AccountType class? Maybe I am going on wrong track. Is there a better way to do this? Thanks!

• Parsing a JSON feed from YQL using jQuery

  I am using YQL's query.multi to grab multiple feeds so I can parse a single JSON feed with jQuery and reduce the number of connections I'm making. In order to parse a single feed, I need to be able to check the type of result (photo, item, entry, etc) so I can pull out items in specific ways. Because of the way the items are nested within the JSON feed, I'm not sure the best way to loop through the results and check the type and then loop through the items to display them.   Hello, I have recently been trying to familiarize myself with the Linux Networking stack and device drivers (have both similarly named O'Reilly books) with the eventual goal of offloading UDP. I have already implemented UDP on the NIC but now the hard part... Rather than ask for assistance on this larger goal I was hoping someone could clarify for me a particular snippet I found that is part of a LKM which registeres a new protocol (OTP) that acts as a filter between the device driver and network stack. http://www.phrack.org/archives/55/p55_0x0c_Building%20Into%20The%20Linux%20Network%20Layer_by_lifeline%20&%20kossak.txt (Note: this Phrack article contains three different modules, code for the OTP is at the bottom of the page) In the init function of his example he has: otp_proto.type = htons(ETH_P_ALL); otp_proto.func = otp_func; dev_add_pack(&otp_proto); which (if I understand correctly) should register otp_proto as a packet sniffer and put it into the ptype_all data structure. My question is about the dev_add_pack. Is it the case that the protocol being registered as a filter will always be placed at this layer between L2 and the device driver? Or, for instance could I make such a filtering occur between the application and transport layers (analyze socket parameters) using the same process? I apologize if this is confusing - I am having some trouble wrapping my head around the bigger picture when it comes to modules altering kernel stack functionality. Thanks

  I'm trying to create an event through the API and it is mostly working, with the exception that while the new events are being created in the invitees calendars, no emails are being sent. Creating the event from the web interface is pushing the event through, as well as sending the email (except one account that doesn't get any notifications at all, but that's not relevant to my current problem). • Can't use Visual Studio 2008 Designer with MVVMLight V3 SP1

  I wish I knew what I did to cause this, but I cannot use the Visual Studio 2008 Designer at all with with MVVMLight templates. I receive a "Could not create an instance of type 'ViewModelLocator'. in any of my xaml pages. The application builds and runs fine but only the designer is broken.   Hallo, I need help in Lex/Yacc Programming. I wrote a compiler for a syntactical analysis for inputs of many statements. Now i have a special problem. In case of an Input the compiler gives the right output, which statement is uses, constant operator or a jmp instructor to which label, now i have to write so, if now a if statement comes, first the first command (before the else) must be give out when the assignment of the if is yes then it must jump to the end because the command after the else isnt needed, so after this jmp then the second command must be give out. I show it in an example maybe you understand what i mean. Input adr. Output if(x==0) 10 if(x==0) Wait 5 20 WAIT 5 else 30 JMP 50 Wait 1 40 WAIT 1 end 50 END like so. I have an idea, maybe i can do it whith a special if statement like IF exp jmp_stmt_end stmt_seq END when the if statement is given in the input the compiler has to recognize the end ofthe statement and like my jmp_stmt in my compiler ( you have to download the files from http://bitbucket.org/matrix/changed-tiny) only to jump to the end.
