• Internationalizing a Python 2.6 application via Babel

  We're evaluating Babel 0.9.5 [1] under Windows for use with Python 2.6 and have the following questions that we we've been unable to answer through reading the documentation or googling. 1) I would like to use an _ like abbreviation for ungettext. Is there a concencus on whether one should use n_ or N_ for this? n_ does not appear to work. Babel does not extract text. N_ appears to partially work. Babel extracts text like it does for gettext, but does not format for ngettext (missing plural argument and msgstr[ n ].) 2) Is there a way to set the initial msgstr fields like the following when creating a POT file? I suspect there may be a way to do this via Babel cfg files, but I've been unable to find documentation on the Babel cfg file format. "Project-Id-Version: PROJECT VERSION\n" "Language-Team: en_US \n" 3) Is there a way to preserve 'obsolete' msgid/msgstr's in our PO files? • Removing related elements using XSLT 1.0

  I'm attempting to remove Component elements from the XML below that have File children with the extension "config." I've managed to do this part, but I also need to remove the matching ComponentRef elements that have the same "Id" values as these Components. <Fragment> <DirectoryRef Id="MyWebsite"> <Component Id="Comp1"> <File Source="Web.config" /> </Component> <Component Id="Comp2"> <File Source="Default.aspx" /> </Component> </DirectoryRef> </Fragment> <Fragment> <ComponentGroup Id="MyWebsite"> <ComponentRef Id="Comp1" /> <ComponentRef Id="Comp2" /> </ComponentGroup> </Fragment> Based on other SO answers, I've come up with the following XSLT to remove these Component elements: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform"> <xsl:output method="xml" indent="yes" /> <xsl:template match="Component[File[substring(@Source, string-length(@Source)- string-length('config') + 1) = 'config']]" /> <xsl:template match="@*|node()"> <xsl:copy> <xsl:apply-templates select="@*|node()"/> </xsl:copy> </xsl:template> </xsl:stylesheet> Unfortunately, this doesn't remove the matching ComponentRef elements (i.e. those that have the same "Id" values). • Beginning Haskell: "not in scope" Unprecedented error

  So I just started learning Haskell, and this (http://learnyouahaskell.com) nifty book is giving a lot of help. So yesterday I wrote in a text file doubleMe x = x + x and saved it as double.hs. So after saving that I open up my command prompt, CD to the right folder, type in "ghci" to get haskell started, and then type in >doubleMe 5 10 and everything seems to work. Now today, I do the same thing and this happens (actual copy paste from command line) . . . C:\Users\myName\haskell>ghci GHCi, version 7.0.3: http://www.haskell.org/ghc/ :? for help Loading package ghc-prim ... linking ... done. Loading package integer-gmp ... linking ... done. Loading package base ... linking ... done. Loading package ffi-1.0 ... linking ... done. Prelude> :l double.hs [1 of 1] Compiling Main ( double.hs, interpreted ) Ok, modules loaded: Main. *Main> doubleMe 5 <interactive>:1:1: Not in scope: `doubleMe' So basically, everything was working fine, but now haskell can't find the function I wrote in double.hs. Can anyone tell what is going on? I'm pretty lost and confused. This is just a guess but does it have to do with *Main at all? Thanks for the help.

• Optimize website for touch devices

  On a touch device like iPhone/iPad/Android it can be difficult to hit a small button with your finger. There is no cross-browser way to detect touch devices with CSS media queries that I know of. So I check if the browser has support for javascript touch events. Until now, other browsers haven't supported them, but the latest Google Chrome on dev channel enabled touch events (even for non touch devices). And I suspect other browser makers will follow, since laptops with touch screens are comming. This is the test I use: function isTouchDevice() { try { document.createEvent("TouchEvent"); return true; } catch (e) { return false; } } The problem is that this only tests if the browser has support for touch events, not the device. Does anyone know of The Correct[tm] way of giving touch devices better user experience? Other than sniffing user agent. Mozilla has a media query for touch devices. But I haven't seen anything like it in any other browser: https://developer.mozilla.org/En/CSS/Media_queries#-moz-touch-enabled Update: I want to avoid using a separate page/site for mobile/touch devices. The solution has to detect touch devices with object detection or similar from JavaScript, or include a custom touch-CSS without user agent sniffing! The main reason I asked, was to make sure it's not possible today, before I contact the css3 working group.

• Python: How can I use Twisted as the transport for SUDS?

  I have a project that is based on Twisted used to communicate with network devices and I am adding support for a new vendor (Citrix NetScaler) whose API is SOAP. Unfortunately the support for SOAP in Twisted still relies on SOAPpy, which is badly out of date. In fact as of this question (I just checked), twisted.web.soap itself hasn't even been updated in 21 months! I would like to ask if anyone has any experience they would be willing to share with utilizing Twisted's superb asynchronous transport functionality with SUDS. It seems like plugging in a custom Twisted transport would be a natural fit in SUDS' Client.options.transport, I'm just having a hard time wrapping my head around it. I did come up with a way to call the SOAP method with SUDS asynchronously by utilizing twisted.internet.threads.deferToThread(), but this feels like a hack to me. Here is an example of what I've done, to give you an idea: # netscaler is a module I wrote using suds to interface with NetScaler SOAP # Source: http://bitbucket.org/jathanism/netscaler-api/src import netscaler import os import sys from twisted.internet import reactor, defer, threads # netscaler.API is the class that sets up the suds.client.Client object host = 'netscaler.local' username = password = 'nsroot' wsdl_url = 'file://' + os.path.join(os.getcwd(), 'NSUserAdmin.wsdl') api = netscaler.API(host, username=username, password=password, wsdl_url=wsdl_url) results = [] errors = [] def handleResult(result): print '\tgot result: %s' % (result,) results.append(result) def handleError(err): sys.stderr.write('\tgot failure: %s' % (err,)) errors.append(err) # this converts the api.login() call to a Twisted thread. # api.login() should return True and is is equivalent to: # api.service.login(username=self.username, password=self.password) deferred = threads.deferToThread(api.login) deferred.addCallbacks(handleResult, handleError) reactor.run() This works as expected and defers return of the api.login() call until it is complete, instead of blocking. • A regex I have working in Ruby doesn't in PHP; what could the cause be?

  I do not know ruby. I am trying to use the following regex that was generated by ruby (namely by http://www.a-k-r.org/abnf/ running on the grammar given rfc1738) in php. It is failing to match in php, but it is successfully matching in ruby. Given the ABNF in an rfc, I want a way (in php) to check if an arbitrary string is in the grammar. APG fails to compile on a 64-bit system, VTC is not Free, and I have not found any other such tools. I would also prefer not to use a regex, but it's the closest I've come to success.

• Best XML format for log events in terms of tool support for data mining and visualization?

  We want to be able to create log files from our Java application which is suited for later processing by tools to help investigate bugs and gather performance statistics. Currently we use the traditional "log stuff which may or may not be flattened into text form and appended to a log file", but this works the best for small amounts of information read by a human. After careful consideration the best bet has been to store the log events as XML snippets in text files (which is then treated like any other log file), and then download them to the machine with the appropriate tool for post processing. I'd like to use as widely supported an XML format as possible, and right now I am in the "research-then-make-decision" phase. I'd appreciate any help both in terms of XML format and tools and I'd be happy to write glue code to get what I need. What I've found so far: log4j XML format: Supported by chainsaw and Vigilog. Lilith XML format: Supported by Lilith Uninvestigated tools: Microsoft Log Parser: Apparently supports XML. OS X log viewer: plus there is a lot of tools on http://www.loganalysis.org/sections/parsing/generic-log-parsers/ Any suggestions?

• Is it right that Strophe.addHandler reads only first node from response?

I'm assuming the basic reason is that precompiled regexes are actually references, and references inside the same list structure are compacted as an optimization (\$scalar behaves the same way). I don't entirely see the utility of doing this (presumably a reference to a reference has the same memory footprint), but maybe there's a reason based on the internal representation Is this the correct behavior? Can I stop it from happening? Aside from probably making GC more difficult, these circular structures create pretty serious headaches. For example, iterating over a list of queries that may sometimes contain the same regular expression will crash the MongoDB driver with a nasty segfault (see https://rt.cpan.org/Public/Bug/Display.html?id=58500)

• Simple continuously running XMPP client in python

  I'm using python-xmpp to send jabber messages. Everything works fine except that every time I want to send messages (every 15 minutes) I need to reconnect to the jabber server, and in the meantime the sending client is offline and cannot receive messages. So I want to write a really simple, indefinitely running xmpp client, that is online the whole time and can send (and receive) messages when required. • Does anyone have documentation on SHGetSysColor?

  I'm trying to find any reference for this function, but I haven't found anything. All I have is an obscure KB from Microsoft referencing that a programmer made boo-boo when coding a part of the Windows Mobile 6 where he should call SHGetSysColor but instead he called GetSysColor that gives a complete different color, for the same spec. From what I could gather the GetSysColor read a color value in the registry from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Color\SHColor or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Color\DefSHColor and returns the color according to the index. What I can't get a fix on is what each index mean, as I have 41 different colors in there. Googling for SHGetSysColor in gives me only 7 matches, two of them are the KB from Microsoft (one in English, the other in French) one is from a Russian site (which I don't read), yet another two are from the freepascal.org and one from Koders.com that is describing the commctl.def file. I went to the commctl.h trying to see if I could find reference tom this function, and found absolutely nothing. No search on MSDN, either fro Google, Bing, or the default MSDN search gave me any result. So, does anyone know what indexes are we talking about here?

• Eclipse Java Content Assist not working

  The Content Assist in Eclipse 3.4 and 3.5 has stopped working for me. When I type in the first few characters of a class and hit CRTL-space then after a delay I get the following error message It does not matter what proposals I enable/disable, I will get this (or similar) message. I have tried: Changing the Xms/Xmx values Starting Eclipse with -clean Creating a new workspace and importing my projects However none of these have worked. I have seen some posts suggesting that other apps may be taking over the CRTL-space or otherwise interfering, however I have nothing aside from a fresh Eclipse running and the problem persists. My problem is very similar to the one covered in this post albeit on a later version and on OSX 10.5.7. Does anyone have any suggestions for how this might be resolved? Thanks. UPDATE: To anyone interested I've had the best results by using Eclipse 3.5 Classic (ie. doesn't include Mylyn). I've also used the settings specified in the bug reports linked to by VonC below. Interestingly Classic doesn't come with some views eg. Snippets, but these are easy to drop in from another distro. UPDATE 2: This problem actually persisted even with the latest versions of Eclipse (3.6 M1). It is caused by a large JAR file generated my Altova Mapforce to handle EDIFACT transformations in our application. It is reproducible by adding this JAR to the buildpath and no changes to Content Assist settings help. The bug (and JAR) can be seen at https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=289057

• Granite DS Actionscript Code Generation Ant cannot find class error

  I am trying to get my Ant build to run the granite DS Actionscript code generation task and am running into some problems. At the moment I am getting this error: BUILD FAILED C...\build.xml:62: Could not load Java class file: SampleDTOOne.class So the .class files are obviously being found. I am not however sure if this error means that the it cannot load the .class file or that it cannot find the actual java source code. My Ant task definition looks like this: <classpath> <pathelement location="C.../src/packages/" /> </classpath> <fileset dir="${base.build.dir}/jc/classes/gpbit/packageName"> <include name="*.class" /> </fileset> </gas3> I have tried many different values for the classpath but cannot get anythign to work. I do not like the path that I am using to find the .class files but again at the moment this is the only one I can get to work. None of the variables seem to make it any easier to get to this location. The fileset is definitely working as it definitely found the .clas files to include the name in the error message. • Minimal assembler program for CP/M 3.1 (z80)

  I seem to be losing the battle against my stupidity. This site explains the system calls under various versions of CP/M. However, when I try to use call 2 (C_WRITE, console output), nothing much happens. I have the following code. ORG 100h LD E,'a' LD C,2 CALL 5 CALL 0 I recite this here from memory. If there are typos, rest assured they were not in the original since the file did compile and I had a COM file to start. I am thinking the lines mean the following: Make sure this gets loaded at address 100h (0h to FFh being the zero page). Load ASCII 'a' into E register for system call 2. Load integer 2 into C register for system call 2. Make system call (JMP to system call is at address 5 in zero page). End program (Exit command is at address 0 in zero page). The program starts and exits with no problems. If I remove the last command, it hangs the computer (which I guess is also expected and shows that CALL 0 works). However, it does not print the ASCII character. (But it does print an extra new line, but the system might have done that.) How can I get my CP/M program to do what the system call is supposed to do? What am I doing wrong?

  Using m2eclipse Eclipse plugin, everybody on the dev team should be able to checkout source code, import Maven project in Eclipse and be good to go. • Why doesn't this code work correctly?

  I'm working on a website that displays galleries, using jCarousel. But no matter what I try, I can't get it to work, and I need to finish this by today. I have a very urgent schedule. My code basically takes image URLs from a database and sends them to AJAX, which passes it to jCarousel which makes the gallery. But there are a few problems: It doesn't display correctly! I can only get the last item pulled from the database, and it displays on the bottom-most row. After the item pulled from the database is displayed, the first time I click on "prev" there's no scroll effect, and the item just disappears! Only if I click on "next" 2-3 times there's a scroll effect and the item remains visible. My items are always displayed at the end of the carousel! This is urgent.. EDIT: I changed the code a bit, but it still does not work. I really need help on this one!! EDIT: I added document.createElement("li"); to each while loop. Now all my items are displayed, but they are displayed vertically and not horizontally on each row. Other than that all other problems are the same. EDIT: Oh and also, in the row my image displays, only the image is there. Maybe jCarousel doesn't accept img and text, I don't know.

  Hi ! Let's get directly to the problem : I'm actually doing a firefox extension in which i would like to implement the jWebsocket API in order to build a small chat. I got my main script file, named test.js, and the jWebsocket lib into a js folder. Just for you to know, this is my first firefox extension ever. Of course I've got the required stand-alone server running in background, and working. So from what I understood looking on various websites, is that if a js file is loaded into the javascript allocated memory space (with the tag), all namespace/function should be available between each file. But this was mostly for HTML-oriented issues, so I'm not sure if it applies to XUL/Firefox environment. But the script keep failing at the first jws call. Any ideas on what goes wrong here ? I'm stuck for 2 days now :/
