• how do I notify child controls of a change in the parent

  what is the best way to keep a child control up to date for changes in the parent. I have a number of child controls hosted inside my parent object and I can think of two ways to send change information to them. 1) wire the child control to an event in the parent. and fire that event on a change in the parent 2) keep a list of the children in an array and intenerate through the array when the change has happened and invoke a method in the child to handle the new changes. I hope I describe it okay. both work but there is probably a right way to handle this and a wrong way.

I have the following which displays all the photos which are associated. How can I limit it to one per event?   I am doing an app which has a feature to rotate and re size a view. i have implemented this feature but i do face an issue. My problem The View wil be resized when dragging its four corners, after resizing it i can rotate the view in both directions. Once the rotation is done, if i try again to resize the view by dragging its corner, the view's size gone to unpredictable value and its moving all around the screen. • Is there an AIR native extension to use GameCenter APIs for turn-based games?

  I'm planning a turn based game using the iOS 5 GameCenter (GameKit) turn-based functions. Ideally I would program the game with AIR (I'm a Flash dev), but so far I can't seem to find any already available native extension that offers that (only basic GameCenter functions), so my questions are: Does anyone know if that already exists? And secondly how complex a task would it be to create an extension that does that? Are there any pitfalls I should be aware of etc.? ** UPDATE ** There does not seem a solution to the above from Adobe. For anyone who is interested check out the Adobe Gaming SDK. It contains a Game Center ANE which I've read contains options for multiplayer but not turn-based multiplayer, at least it's a start. Comes a bit late for me as I've already learned Obj-c!

  I'm trying to append an onload event to a popup window in the following manner: var explorerWindow = window.open(PARAMS...); explorerWindow.onload = function() {window.opener.unlockObj(id);} The idea is to make the button that generates the popup window readonly, making it usable again once the popup window has loaded all of its contents. However, the event doesn't seem to be firing at all. I even changed it to the following and got nothing: explorerWindow.onload = function() {alert("bloop");} Is there something terribly wrong with my syntax or am I missing something else entirely? Also, I'm using JQuery if there are any appropriate gems there that will help in this situation. I tried the following with similar results, but I'm not so sure I got the call right: $(explorerWindow).load(function() {alert("bloop");}); Any help is greatly appreciated.

  I have a recurring question when writing unit tests for code that involves constant string values. Let's take an example of a method/function that does some processing and returns a string containing a pre-defined constant. In python, that would be something like: STRING_TEMPLATE = "/some/constant/string/with/%s/that/needs/interpolation/" def process(some_param): # We do some meaningful work that gives us a value result = _some_meaningful_action() return STRING_TEMPLATE % result If I want to unit test process, one of my tests will check the return value. This is where I wonder what the best solution is. In my unit test, I can: apply DRY and use the already defined constant repeat myself and rewrite the entire string def test_foo_should_return_correct_url(): string_result = process() # Applying DRY and using the already defined constant assert STRING_TEMPLATE % "1234" == string_result # Repeating myself, repeating myself assert "/some/constant/string/with/1234/that/needs/interpolation/" == url The advantage I see in the former is that my test will break if I put the wrong string value in my constant. The inconvenient is that I may be rewriting the same string over and over again across different unit tests.

  I'm trying to integrate Mixpanel with GWT, but I have problems calling an event with a property and one value. But when I want to add some properties and values, it doesn't work properly: public native void trackComplexEvent(String eventName, String property, String value)/*-{ $wnd.mixpanel.track(eventName, {property:value}); }-*/; I have 2 problems with this: 1) Mixpanel says the property name is: "property"(yes, the name of the variable that I'm passing, not the value). 2) Mixpanel says the value is:undefined An example from mixpanel web is: mixpanel.track("Video Play", {"age": 13, "gender": "male"}); So, I guess the problem is I'm doing a wrong call or with wrong type of arguments.

I've recently put a fairly complex "filter" into place which searches my content for mentions of fish species profiles and turns them into an active link. As such, I'm using /?p=1703 or whatever the ID is. What I'd like to know is: how much will this affect my SEO rating/ranking? Will it be detrimental if I don't rewrite the function? • c++: Schedule function call in the future?

  Using Visual C++ with MFC. When a certain event occurs in my code, I want to set a function to be called 10 seconds later to perform some activity. The handling of the event happens in a static library that doesn't have any direct links to MFC (and I'd like to keep it that way). How can I schedule a function to be called at some point in the future? Use a Timer I guess? How do I decouple the Timer (which is an MFC dependency) so my business code doesn't have a direct dependency on the GUI? Or maybe something else besides a timer?

• Application.Idle causes high CPU usage

  Hello, I use the Application.Idle event to handle toolbar status (enable/disable) etc. quite extensively. As I'm beta testing Norton AntiVirus 2011, it brought to my attention that my app that I'm developing triggered a high CPU usage warning on at least one CPU. Sure enough, I opened the task manager and watched one of the four CPU's (quad core system) go to near 100%. I thought Application.Idle was the way to handle things when the application wasn't performing CPU tasks. Why is Application.Idle spiking the CPU? Here is how I attach to the event: AddHandler Application.Idle, AddressOf OnAppIdle Been using Application.Idle for a long time, never knew it would have this issue. Using VS 2010 .NET 4 Thank you.

  I have an application that needs to store client data, and part of that is some data about their employer as well. Assuming that a client can only have one employer, and that the chance of people having identical employer data is slim to none, which schema would make more sense to use? Schema 1 Client Table: ------------------- id int name varchar(255), email varchar(255), address varchar(255), city varchar(255), state char(2), zip varchar(16), employer_name varchar(255), employer_phone varchar(255), employer_address varchar(255), employer_city varchar(255), employer_state char(2), employer_zip varchar(16) **Schema 2** Client Table ------------------ id int name varchar(255), email varchar(255), address varchar(255), city varchar(255), state char(2), zip varchar(16), Employer Table --------------------- id int name varchar(255), phone varchar(255), address varchar(255), city varchar(255), state char(2), zip varchar(16) patient_id int Part of me thinks that since are clearly two different 'objects' in the real world, seperating them out into two different tables makes sense. However, since a client will always have an employer, I'm also not seeing any real benefits to seperating them out, and it would make querying data about clients more complex. Is there any benefit / reason for creating two tables in a situation like this one instead of one?

• Analyzing CPU usage of an iOS application

  I'm working on an application that constructs springboard like interface (like iPhone's home screen). I have multiple pages, and each page contains many subviews. Each subview is able to detect touch and hold event. Once a touch and hold event is recognized, all the subviews start to wobble. One of the problems that i'm facing is that the CPU usage shoots to 99%, when the subviews are in wobble state, and i change the page. Instruments has a tool by the name of "CPU Sampler". I'm unable to find good set of documentation for this tool. I don't know how to read the output generated by this tool. Can anyone give me a small tutorial or guidelines? Can i check which piece of code is responsible for the CPU activity?

  Hi cloud of wisdom :-) I am facing some trouble trying to configure a particular configuration for a NumericUpDown control in c#. Basically, I have seen that I can set the Increment interval, but I would like to manage the Increment interval depending on which arrow is clicked (up or down). I have checked the events of the control, but I do not find an event for each arrow. Basically, I want to achieve a control where, at different values, the increment is different. from 0.00 to 5.00 increments of 0.01, from 5.00 to 20.00 increments of 0.04, and so on Is this possible ? Note: It would be useful also an historic value in the control for the last value when the valuechanged event is trigger. Does this exist? Thanks in advance for any comment or suggestion!!!

  Say I have a list of datetimes, and we know each datetime to be the recorded time of an event happening. Is it possible in matplotlib to graph the frequency of this event occuring over time, showing this data in a cumulative graph (so that each point is greater or equal to all of the points that went before it), without preprocessing this list? (e.g. passing datetime objects directly to some wonderful matplotlib function) Or do I need to turn this list of datetimes into a list of dictionary items, such as: {"year": 1998, "month": 12, "date": 15, "events": 92} and then generate a graph from this list? Sorry if this seems like a silly question - I'm not all too familiar with matplotlib, and would like to save myself the effort of doing this the latter way if matplotlib can already deal with datetime objects itself.

  I've got a bit of a strange problem.. Basically, I'm building a fairly complex (un-compiled, interpreted) program in Python. I've been working on most of this code for other purposes for a few months, and therefore don't want my client to be able to simple copy and paste it and then try and sell it (it's worth a fair amount). The other problem is that I need the script to run on a server that my client is paying for. Is there any way I can secure a particular folder on the machine from root access, make it so only one particular can access the directory? The OS is Ubuntu.

• Is there a quick way to convert camera raw files to DNG?

  Before I switched from Windows to Ubuntu for my daily computing, I used Adobe's Photoshop Lightroom for processing photos from my DSLR. Adobe made it really straightforward to convert from proprietary camera raw files (in my case, .NEF) to DNG. I haven't found any way to convert NEF to DNG in Ubuntu yet. Most photography programs do process NEFs to JPG/TIFF/PNG/etc., but I'm looking for a converter for archival purposes. Are there any tools available, either standalone or built into another app, that can losslessly convert from NEF to DNG?

In this post, I’ll share best practices on the configuration of data nodes to achieve optimum performance on the latest generations of multi-core, multi-thread CPU designs. Configuring the Data Nodes The configuration of data node threads can be managed in two ways via the config.ini file: - Simply set MaxNoOfExecutionThreads to the appropriate number of threads to be run in the data node, based on the number of threads presented by the processors used in the host or VM. - Use the new ThreadConfig variable that enables users to configure both the number of each thread type to use and also which CPUs to bind them too. The flexible configuration afforded by the multi-threaded data node enhancements means that it is possible to optimise data nodes to use anything from a single CPU/thread up to a 48 CPU/thread server. Co-locating the MySQL Server with a single data node can fully utilize servers with 64 – 80 CPU/threads. It is also possible to co-locate multiple data nodes per server, but this is now only required for very large servers with 4+ CPU sockets dense multi-core processors. 24 Threads and Beyond! An example of how to make best use of a 24 CPU/thread server box is to configure the following: - 8 ldm threads - 4 tc threads - 3 recv threads - 3 send threads - 1 rep thread for asynchronous replication. Each of those threads should be bound to a CPU. It is possible to bind the main thread (schema management domain) and the IO threads to the same CPU in most installations. In the configuration above, we have bound threads to 20 different CPUs. We should also protect these 20 CPUs from interrupts by using the IRQBALANCE_BANNED_CPUS configuration variable in /etc/sysconfig/irqbalance and setting it to 0x0FFFFF. The reason for doing this is that MySQL Cluster generates a lot of interrupt and OS kernel processing, and so it is recommended to separate activity across CPUs to ensure conflicts with the MySQL Cluster threads are eliminated. When booting a Linux kernel it is also possible to provide an option isolcpus=0-19 in grub.conf. The result is that the Linux scheduler won't use these CPUs for any task. Only by using CPU affinity syscalls can a process be made to run on those CPUs. By using this approach, together with binding MySQL Cluster threads to specific CPUs and banning CPUs IRQ processing on these tasks, a very stable performance environment is created for a MySQL Cluster data node. On a 32 CPU/Thread server: - Increase the number of ldm threads to 12 - Increase tc threads to 6 - Provide 2 more CPUs for the OS and interrupts. - The number of send and receive threads should, in most cases, still be sufficient. On a 40 CPU/Thread server, increase ldm threads to 16, tc threads to 8 and increment send and receive threads to 4. On a 48 CPU/Thread server it is possible to optimize further by using: - 12 tc threads - 2 more CPUs for the OS and interrupts - Avoid using IO threads and main thread on same CPU - Add 1 more receive thread. Summary As both this and the previous post seek to demonstrate, the multi-threaded data node extensions not only serve to increase performance of MySQL Cluster, they also enable users to achieve significantly improved levels of utilization from current and future generations of massively multi-core, multi-thread processor designs. A big thanks to Mikael Ronstrom, Senior MySQL Architect at Oracle, for his work in developing these enhancements and best practices. You can download MySQL Cluster 7.2 today and try out all of these enhancements.
