• Windows server 2008 issue

  We have 2 domains “pdc1” and “devkc” both are windows 2000 Active Directory domains with a 2-way trust relationship in place., has been this way for years. All of our developer machines are joined to the “devkc” domain but the users log into there accounts on the “pdc1” domain. This all works fine with Windows XP, 2000 and 2003 server. However with Windows Server 2008 the users can only log into the “devkc” domain that the machine is joined to, they can not log into the “pdc1” domain. The following error results: "The security database on this server does not have a computer account for this workstation trust relationship” Any ideas would be greatly appreaciated Thanks Matt Fitz

• Machine Check Exception

  When trying to install ubuntu-12.04-desktop-amd64.iso from USB I get one of the following errors http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Machine_Check_Exception states the error can occur due to -poorly fitted heatsink/computer fans (the same problem can happen with excessive dust in the CPU fan) -an overloaded internal or external power supply (fixable by upgrading) So I tried the following -Using rubbing alcohol to remove all the thermal paste from the CPU and heatsink, I then reseated the CPU after checking all the pins on the MOBO, everything seems fine. -Boot without the GPU to see if was the PSU that is being over stressed. -Removing all RAM apart from one stick and running a Memtest86 which it passed -Using Ubuntu 10.04.4 Desktop 64 bit (Different USB slots and USB sticks) -Using Ubuntu 12.04 Desktop 64 bit (Different USB slots and USB sticks) -Reset the BIOS using the Clear CMOS jumper -Removing all HD power cables and SATA cables -Updating the BIOS from F2 to F6 My PC is using the following parts. -Gigabyte GA-Z77-DS3H (F6 BIOS) -Intel Core i7 3770K 3.5GHz Socket 1155 -G-Skill 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600Mhz RipjawsX Memory Kit CL9 (9-9-9-24) 1.5V -Be Quiet Shadow Rock Pro -Be Quiet Pure Power 730W Modular PSU -Sapphire HD 6870 1GB GDDR5 DVI HDMI DisplayPort PCI-E Graphics Card Any ideas?

• How to use rhythmbox-client on LAN?

  A few days ago I had asked this question, and according to one suggestion, used rhythmote. It is a web-interface to change songs on a rhythmbox playing on some PC. However, its not what I had thought of, and I stumbled upon documentation for rhythmbox-client. I tried a few ways of using it, but was unsuccessful. Let me show you a few ways of how I did it. The rhythmbox is running at address 192.168.1.4, lets call it jukebox. Passing the address as a parameter Hoping that I would be able to see and browse through songs on the jukebox rhythmbox-client 192.168.1.4 But, I get this message (rhythmbox-client:8370): Rhythmbox-WARNING **: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken. I am guessing this is running on my own computer. Can anyon tell me how rhythmbox-client is to be run, and is it even correct of me to think that I can get a rhythmbox window showing the songs on the jukebox? • How to reduce timeout for bad password on disconnected laptop?

  I use a Windows 7 laptop computer. When not attached to my AD domain, if I enter an incorrect password, I have to wait approximately a full minute before the failure response comes back. When attached to the domain, the response is instant. I think that what's happening is that is that when my entry fails against the cached pw, Windows tries to reach the domain controller and the timeout for that operation is about 60s. Is there a registry entry that controls the timeout? I'd love to reduce it.

• Video Card needs additional mounting support

  We are creating a fairly decent system with crossfire. The issue we are having is apparently the video cards are physically to heavy to be supported purely by the motherboard and case mounts. Whenever we have the case horizontal everything works fine however when we bring the case upright the computer stops working. Relevant Info: Video Cards (2) - Sapphire 5870 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102856) MotherBoard - Asus M4A79T Deluxe Case - CoolerMaster 922 HAF To me it looks as if an additional support bracket that could hold up the end of the card would be required (included with the viideo cards!!!) Does anyone have any experience with this.

• Two SATA HDDs connected using a Black Duet HDD Docking Station via eSATA to my Laptop, second drive

  Hi I am using a BlacX Duet HDD Docking Station to connect a 1TB WD Caviar Black SATA HDD (WD10000LSRTL) and a HITACHI SATA DESKSTAR (0S00163) to my G51VX (BestBuy) laptop via the eSATA port. When I plug in both HDDs in to the Docking Station, connect the docking station to my laptop and start Windows 7 (64-bit Ultimate), only the HDD in the first drive in the port actually shows up in My Computer and Disk Management. If I swap the drives positions I can get them both to work, but never at the same time. I also checked in the bios settings on the laptop, under Advanced-IDE Configuration-SATA Operation Mode, and it displays: SATA Operation Mode: [Enhanced] AHCI Port0 [Hard Disk] Device: Hard Disk Vendor: ST9320421AS LBA Mode: Supported S.M.A.R.T.: Supported AHCI Port5 [Hard Disk] Device: Hard Disk Vendor: Hitachi HDS721010CLA332 Size: 100.00 GB LBA Mode: Supported S.M.A.R.T.: Supported There should be a third drive, but I'm not certain why it is not being picked up. Additionally, before I played around with the settings in the IDE configuration, it used to display the DVD as well.

• Code Bubbles: Disruption comes to the IDE

  If you’re like me, you might see the open source Eclipse IDE as a copy or, more generously, a port of the Microsoft’s Visual Studio for the non-.NET world.  It’s not that Microsoft invented the IDE (I would credit Borland with that), but they really took the idea and ran with it for the first version of Visual Studio .NET in 2002.  The question is whether someone outside of Microsoft could take the modern IDE yet another major step forward in both principle and productivity. I think that has actually happened already, and I think the innovator in question is a second-year Computer Science PhD student at Brown, named Andrew Bragdon.  His project, which he calls Code Bubbles, is an IDE that allows for editing, debugging and exploration of code in “bubbles” which remind me a little bit of the discrete note tiles on OneNote…but they’re much more than that.  Bubbles actually allow for call stack traversal, saved debug sessions, sophisticated breakpoint and value watch behaviors and more.  And because bubbles, unlike windows, are borderless, and focus on code fragments rather than whole files, the de-cluttering effect is unbelievably liberating.  The best way to understand what Code Bubbles does is to watch the screencast video:     Code Bubbles is an IDE for Java development.  Why didn’t Microsoft come up with something like this for .NET devs?  Between the existing features in Visual Studio 2010, its WPF code editor, and the fact that OneNote’s UI bears some affinity to Code Bubbles’, it’s interesting that Microsoft still has not thought outside of its own “box” to get us something like this. Heck, that’s easy for me to say.  But it’s easy for you to say that you’d like something like this in Visual Studio sometime soon.  That’s because the ASP.NET site within UserVoice is taking votes on this very issue.  Just click this link and vote! • Hyper-V server 2012 nic teaming setup and virtual switch configuration

  I have a server with 2 nics. I installed Hyper-v 2012 server (not windows server 2012, no gui) I am trying to set up load balancing. I have both nics in the same switch currently in trunk mode and no native vlan. I use the new-netlbfoteam command to create a team with both nics, I can then "set-netlbfoteamnic "Nic Team" -vlanid 4" so that its available to me with a DHCP or static address but as soon as I try to create a virtual switch it becomes unresponsive. My guess is that is due to it removing the vlan tagging I setup. if I add-netlbfoteamnic and set it for vlan 4, then set the IP I can ping it from my management computer but I just get an error "an error occurred while attempting to connect to server "xxxxxx" Check that the Virtual Machine Management service is running and that you are authorized to connect to the server."

  Here's the problem: I would like to keep lots of home made videos. Of course, they are subject to being lost, or somebody could steal the the computer, or water or fire could destroy them. Secondly, I have to plug in my hard drive every time I want to watch something, which I find slow and cumbersome. I was thinking that perhaps I could upload the videos to Youtube with the privacy set to invite only and then delete the video from the hard drive automatically. Could this be done?

• Setting up a wireless network with Verizon MiFi

  I am trying to set up a home network. I live in a location without cable internet so I have a Verizon MiFi card. I have a few laptops at the moment and they each connect through the card but I want to set up an Ubuntu 10.10 server and see if I can use it for DHCP. I have a Trendnet TEG-S50G switch and the computer I plan to use for the server has a Linksys WMP-11 Wireless PCI card. Is there any other equipment I need in order to get this to work? Is this even doable? Is there a better way to make this happen?

  NASA has released a high-resolution self portrait of Curiosity. The photo, a composite of images snapped by the rover’s agile arm and MAHLI camera, shows Curiosity in front of Mount Sharp. From the NASA release: The mosaic shows the rover at “Rocknest,” the spot in Gale Crater where the mission’s first scoop sampling took place. Four scoop scars can be seen in the regolith in front of the rover. The base of Gale Crater’s 3-mile-high (5-kilometer) sedimentary mountain, Mount Sharp, rises on the right side of the frame. Mountains in the background to the left are the northern wall of Gale Crater. The Martian landscape appears inverted within the round, reflective ChemCam instrument at the top of the rover’s mast. Self-portraits like this one document the state of the rover and allow mission engineers to track changes over time, such as dust accumulation and wheel wear. Due to its location on the end of the robotic arm, only MAHLI (among the rover’s 17 cameras) is able to image some parts of the craft, including the port-side wheels. • bradford persistent agent login not coming up.

  Wired connection. Desktop. It downloads and installs fine but at the point where the login is supposed to pop up. Nothing happens. Bradford says I have normal network access and it never shows it scanning. It just installs and does nothing. I have all of the updates and everything Bradford needs. • how to program a special key on my laptop?

  ok so i have a set of touch screen buttons on the top of my laptop's keyboard, (one turns on power save mode, one disables/enables the mouse touch pad, one toggles the wifi adapter, and two turns the volume up/down) however theres another one that opened a file backup utility that came with my laptop. but since i bought my laptop , ive uninstalled that utility, rendering this button useless. So i was wondering if it was possible to reprogram that button to open another file or program on my computer? And if so what are the requirements and how would i go about doing it? • Cannot uninstall Office Live Add-in 1.4 after installing Office 2010

  Last night I upgraded to Office 2010 RTM from MSDN. I'm now trying to uninstall the Office Live Add-in that I used with Office 2007 as this functionality is built in to Office 2010. When I run the uninstall from control panel I get the following message: Microsoft Office Live Add-in cannot be installed because you do not have the right version of Microsoft Office installed on your computer Google has pointed to 2 solutions, both of which are pretty useless: Use the MS Windows Installer Cleanup - this is not good because all it does is remove the Installer entry from the registry, leaving all the installed files behind Uninstall Office 2010, uninstall Add-in, reinstall Office 2010 - that is just rediculous, but typical MS response So, can I get this off my system without resorting to option 2?

  Hi, My camera a Canon 5D mark II serves me .mov files in HD - but these are a pain in the neck to edit on my pc. I have tried Premier, Vegas, Pinnacle etc - but it is almost impossible to edit and do a movie. I do have a good computer with windows7 but that doesnt help me, and I dont want to buy a new monster pc just for that task.   Do you need just one or a few special keyboard shortcuts for your favorite program(s)? A quick modification to program shortcuts will get you up and running without installing additional software. Creating New Keyboard Shortcuts Go to the start menu shortcut for the program, right-click on it, and select properties. When the properties window opens click in the shortcut key text area. All that you need to do is choose an appropriate letter for the program (i.e. O for Opera, E for Editra, etc.) and type it in the blank. You will not need to type any other keys or combination in…the “Ctrl + Alt +” will be automatically entered for you as soon as you type the letter in. Click OK to finish creating the new keyboard shortcut. Those new keyboard shortcuts will speed up access to your favorite software. Another example from our system using “I” for Iron Browser. Certainly much quicker than using the start menu. Conclusion If you only need one or just a few special keyboard shortcuts then this method provides a quick and simple solution. • What are good values for PSU voltages?

  Hello, I have an odd computer I'm trying to fix that will crash only during the setup of an OS(crashes on every OS I've tried so far) It's not overheating and it is stripped down as much as possible and I've tried multiple harddrives, and memtest86+ can run on it for 3 hours without a crash or fail. So, I was a bit stumped and was looking in the BIOS for possible causes and found a hardware monitor that shows PSU voltages. They are: VCORE: 1.432V 3.3V: 3.136V 5V: 5.273 12V: 12.144V I thought the 3.3V looked a little low, but I'm not really sure on how "bad" that is. So, what are the good ranges for the voltages on each CPU rail?

• Typing lag in WinXP

  I'm working on a Dell Vostro 1000 laptop that has a mysterious lag in typing. You enter keystrokes and it takes a while to show up on the screen. WinXP Pro was freshly installed and the behavior is still here. Here is the weird part... I've tested the computer with the full Dell diagnostic suite, Prime95 (using UBCD4Win), and Memtest86. Everything checks out as fine. If I run a LiveCD such as UBCD4Win or Ubuntu (9.04?) then there is no typing issue. This is causing me lots of aggravation. Thoughts?

  I'm using the latest Chrome dev build on Mac OS X. Recently, I've been getting this message on any HTTPS webpage when I visit it the first time: The site's security certificate is not trusted! You attempted to reach checkout.google.com, but the server presented a certificate issued by an entity that is not trusted by your computer's operating system. This may mean that the server has generated its own security credentials, which Google Chrome cannot rely on for identity information, or an attacker may be trying to intercept your communications. You should not proceed, especially if you have never seen this warning before for this site. Why is this here, and how can I fix it? It may be because of my development build, but many other people use the dev version also, and I expect it would be fixed quicker then this.

• /usr/lib/cups/backend/hp has failed

  Ever since 10.04, I can't print to an HP laserjet p3005. I'm even using an entirely different computer now with a fresh install of 10.10. I've tried with and without the latest hplip. Recently, sometimes I can get it to print a few things, but eventually it always fails (usually when printing a pdf from the document viewer (also doesn't work with adobe pdf reader)). Sometimes it fails so bad the printer gives an error saying it needs to be turned off and on again. I can't seem to find a fix anywhere, I've googled all over the past year and tried every fix I could find. It does say that the /usr/lib/cups/backend/hp has failed. It also doesn't make a difference if I create the printer using hp-setup or ubuntu's own printing control panel. I delete and re-create the printer, no difference eventually. I use the default printer settings or custom settings, no difference. I can print perfectly find to a networked printer at home - an HP officejet 6310. It seems to be networked HP printers at work that I can't print to anymore (except occasionally right after re-installing the printer driver). What's the recommended way to install HP printer drivers and reset or clean out everything from before. Or where are the right logs to read or debug commands to do to find out what may be the real cause of the printing problems?
