• Memory leak when using Workflow 4.0 SqlWorkflowInstanceStore and PersistableIdleAction.Unload

  Hi, This particular problem is driving me nuts. I wonder if anyone has experienced a similar problem. If I load up a workflow then unload it and perform a memory snapshot then the result is predictable - my workflow is no longer in memory. However, if I load up a workflow and set the PersistableIdle action to PersistableIdleAction.Unload and let the workflow idle the workflow remains in memory even though the Unload action fires. I used ANTS Memory Profiler to debug this issue. This is the object retention graph outputted showing that an internal object is hanging onto my workflow instance. Can anyone else verify this problem? My code amounts to the following: Create SqlWorkflowInstanceStore and setup lock owner handle -- At this point I take a memory snapshot Create an instance of Workflow1 Set the PersistableIdle action Apply the instancestore to Workflow1 Setup action event handlers for Idle, Unload, UnhandledException etc. Persist the workflow instance Run the workflow instance Wait for instance to idle (caused by Delay activity) Ensure the Unload action is fired -- At this point I take a second memory snapshot From the above image, it is clear that the only object referencing Workflow1 is some internal event handlers result which I have no ability to dispose of. Any clues?

• iPhone: Override UIButton buttonWithType to return subclass

  I want to be able to create a UIButton with an oversized responsive area. I know that one way to do that is to override the hitTest method in a subclass, but how do I instantiate my custom button object in the first place? [OversizedButton buttonWithType: UIButtonTypeDetailDisclosure]; doesn't work out of the box because buttonWithType returns a UIButton, not an OversizedButton. So it seems like I need to override the buttonWithType method as well. • Many to Many Logic in ASP.NET MVC

  Hi All, I will restrict this to the three tables I am trying to work with Problem, Communications, and ProbComms. The scenario is that a Student may have many Problems concurrently which may affect their studies. Lecturers may have future communications with a student after an initial problem is logged, however as a Student may have multiple Problems the Lecturer may decide that the discussion they had is related to more than one Problem. Here is a screenshot of the LINQ representation of my DB: LINQ Screenshot At the moment in my StudentController I have a StudentFormViewModel Class: // //ViewModel Class public class StudentFormViewModel { IProbCommRepository probCommRepository; // Properties public Student Student { get; private set; } public IEnumerable<ProbComm> ProbComm { get; private set; } // // Dependency Injection enabled constructors public StudentFormViewModel(Student student, IEnumerable<ProbComm> probComm) : this(new ProbCommRepository()) { this.Student = student; this.ProbComm = probComm; } public StudentFormViewModel(IProbCommRepository pRepository) { probCommRepository = pRepository; } } When I go to the Students Detail Page this runs: public ActionResult Details(string id) { StudentFormViewModel viewdata = new StudentFormViewModel(studentRepository.GetStudent(id), probCommRepository.FindAllProblemComms(id)); if (viewdata == null) return View("NotFound"); else return View(viewdata); } The GetStudent works fine and returns an instance of the student to output on the page, below the student I output all problems logged against them, but underneath these problems I want to show the communications related to the Problem. • Python - calculate multinomial probability density functions on large dataset?

  Hi, I originally intended to use MATLAB to tackle this problem but the inbuilt functions has limitations that do not suit my goal. The same limitation occurs in NumPy. I have two tab-delimited files. The first is a file showing amino acid residue, frequency and count for an in-house database of protein structures, i.e. A 0.25 1 S 0.25 1 T 0.25 1 P 0.25 1 The second file consists of quadruplets of amino acids and the number of times they occur, i.e. ASTP 1 Note, there are 8,000 such quadruplets. Based on the background frequency of occurence of each amino acid and the count of quadruplets, I aim to calculate the multinomial probability density function for each quadruplet and subsequently use it as the expected value in a maximum likelihood calculation. The multinomial distribution is as follows: f(x|n, p) = n!/(x1!*x2!*...*xk!)*((p1^x1)*(p2^x2)*...*(pk^xk)) where x is the number of each of k outcomes in n trials with fixed probabilities p. n is 4 four in all cases in my calculation. I have created three functions to calculate this distribution. # functions for multinomial distribution def expected_quadruplets(x, y): expected = x*y return expected # calculates the probabilities of occurence raised to the number of occurrences def prod_prob(p1, a, p2, b, p3, c, p4, d): prob_prod = (pow(p1, a))*(pow(p2, b))*(pow(p3, c))*(pow(p4, d)) return prob_prod # factorial() and multinomial_coefficient() work in tandem to calculate C, the multinomial coefficient def factorial(n): if n <= 1: return 1 return n*factorial(n-1) def multinomial_coefficient(a, b, c, d): n = 24.0 multi_coeff = (n/(factorial(a) * factorial(b) * factorial(c) * factorial(d))) return multi_coeff The problem is how best to structure the data in order to tackle the calculation most efficiently, in a manner that I can read (you guys write some cryptic code :-)) and that will not create an overflow or runtime error. To data my data is represented as nested lists. amino_acids = [['A', '0.25', '1'], ['S', '0.25', '1'], ['T', '0.25', '1'], ['P', '0.25', '1']] quadruplets = [['ASTP', '1']] I initially intended calling these functions within a nested for loop but this resulted in runtime errors or overfloe errors. I know that I can reset the recursion limit but I would rather do this more elegantly. I had the following: for i in quadruplets: quad = i[0].split(' ') for j in amino_acids: for k in quadruplets: for v in k: if j[0] == v: multinomial_coefficient(int(j[2]), int(j[2]), int(j[2]), int(j[2])) I haven'te really gotten to how to incorporate the other functions yet. I think that my current nested list arrangement is sub optimal. I wish to compare the each letter within the string 'ASTP' with the first component of each sub list in amino_acids. Where a match exists, I wish to pass the appropriate numeric values to the functions using indices. Is their a better way? Can I append the appropriate numbers for each amino acid and quadruplet to a temporary data structure within a loop, pass this to the functions and clear it for the next iteration? Thanks, S :-)

The button is placed in a page 'MyPage.xaml' but its custom ICommand class is placed in another class, not in the MyPage code behind. • Python performance: iteration and operations on nested lists

  Problem Hey folks. I'm looking for some advice on python performance. Some background on my problem: Given: A mesh of nodes of size (x,y) each with a value (0...255) starting at 0 A list of N input coordinates each at a specified location within the range (0...x, 0...y) Increment the value of the node at the input coordinate and the node's neighbors within range Z up to a maximum of 255. Neighbors beyond the mesh edge are ignored. (No wrapping) BASE CASE: A mesh of size 1024x1024 nodes, with 400 input coordinates and a range Z of 75 nodes. Processing should be O(x*y*Z*N). I expect x, y and Z to remain roughly around the values in the base case, but the number of input coordinates N could increase up to 100,000. My goal is to minimize processing time. Current results I have 2 current implementations: f1, f2 Running speed on my 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with Python 2.6.1: f1: 2.9s f2: 1.8s f1 is the initial naive implementation: three nested for loops. f2 is replaces the inner for loop with a list comprehension. Code is included below for your perusal. Question How can I further reduce the processing time? I'd prefer sub-1.0s for the test parameters. Please, keep the recommendations to native Python. I know I can move to a third-party package such as numpy, but I'm trying to avoid any third party packages. Also, I've generated random input coordinates, and simplified the definition of the node value updates to keep our discussion simple. • LoginView inside FormView control is not databinding on PostBack

That all works. However, once the update is finished (and I call e.Cancel = true), the LoginView control does not databind its children... so they are all blank. The FormView's viewstate is still fine, as all the rest of the controls outside of the LoginView appear fine. I even handle the FormView_DataBound event and a Trace shows that the FormView is being databound on postback. Why then is the LoginView not keeping its ViewState/being databound? Here we have a competition where I will award a 100 point bounty (I know its not much, but I am poor after the recalc) to the code which most resembles this pseudocode. I've read through this a few times so I'm pretty sure that this pseudocode below is correct and about as unambiguous as pseudocode can be. Personally, I'm going to have a go in Python and probably Haskell as well, but I'm just learning the later so my attempt will probably be pretty poor. • Java - Lock Aspect Ratio of JFrame

  Is it possible to lock the aspect ratio of a JFrame in Java Swing? For example, if my window is 200px by 200px, and the user wants to resize it, I want the ratio between the width and the height at 1:1, so that if the new width is 400px, the new height is forced to 400px. I'm aware of ComponentListener and componentResized, but I'm having difficulty not getting it to go into an infinite loop of resizing, because I'm resizing the window in a resize listener. Thanks!

• Problem upgrading eclipse rcp app from 3.3 to 3.5 on Mac OS

  I previously had an eclipse rcp app based on eclipse 3.3 pugins deployed on both windows and mac OS X 10.4. i'm now trying to port the app to java 1.6 and eclipse 3.5 (Build id: 20100218-1602) plugins on Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard). I can launch the product from eclipse 3.5 on windows but not on Mac OS X. I have the 64bit cocoa eclipse IDE and java 6. In the launch configuration I set runtime JRE to JVM 1.6.0 and added required plugins. • Telerik RadAlert back button cache problem

  Hi, I'm sure you have had this one before so if you could point me to something similar.... I have a server side creation of a RadAlert window using the usual Sys.Application.remove_load and add_load procedure however the alert keeps popping up as it seems to be caching when the user hits the back button after it has been activated. I have tried to put a onclick event on a button to clear the function using remove_load before it moves to the next page however it still doesn't seem to clear it. Its used in validation so if a user inputs failed validation it pops up. If they then go and enter correct validation it then moves onto the next page. If they then use back button this is where it pops up again. Any ideas? • How do I keep Visual Studio's Windows Forms Designer from deleting controls?

  With several forms of mine, I occasionally run into the following issue: I edit the form using the designer (Visual Studio 2008, Windows Forms, .NET 2.0, VB.NET) to add components, only to find out later that some minor adjustments were made (e.g. the form's size is suddenly changed by a few pixels), and controls get deleted. This happens silently — event-handling methods automatically have their Handles suffix removed, too, so they never get called, and there's no compiler error. I only notice much later or not at all, because I'm working on a different area in the form. As an example, I have a form with a SplitContainer containing an Infragistics UltraListView to the left, and an UltraTabControl to the right. I added a new tab, and controls within, and they worked fine. I later on found out that the list view's scrollbar was suddenly invisible, due to its size being off, and at least one control was removed from a different tab that I hadn't been working on. Is this a known issue with the WinForms Designer, or with Infragistics? I use version control, of course, so I can compare the changes and merge the deleted code back in, but it's a tedious process that shouldn't be necessary. Are there ways to avoid this? Is there a good reason for this to occur? One clue is that the control that was removed may have code (such as a Load event handler) that expects to be run in run time, not design time, and may be throwing an exception. Could this cause Visual Studio to remove the control?

My first guess was that there's a Hardware problem of some sort and I asked my Hoster (it's a rented root server) to do a full hardwarecheck - they did, but couldn't find any problem. I don't know what and how they checked but their support team is usually quite good. I ran memtester and cpuburn myself and couldn't find any error either. Unfortunately I have no reliable way to reproduce these segfaults, they seem to be more or less random. On a hunch I disabled the firewall of the system and ran one of the programs that segfaulted regularily (imapsync) and it seemed to take longer to segfault than before, so the problem might be related to the network stack. Or could just be a random thing. • Automatically calling OnDetaching() for Silverlight Behaviors

  I am using several Blend behaviors and triggers on a silverlight control. I am wondering if there is any mechanism for automatically detaching or ensuring that OnDetaching() is called for a behavior or trigger when the control is no longer being used (i.e. removed from the visual tree). My problem is that there is a managed memory leak with the control because of one of the behaviors. The behavior subscribes to an event on some long-lived object in the OnAttached() override and should be unsubscribing to that event in the OnDetaching() override so that it can become a candidate for garbage collection. However, OnDetaching() never seems to be getting called when I remove the control from the visual tree... the only way I can get it to happen is by explicit detaching the behavior BEFORE removing the control and then it is properly garbage collected. Right now my only solution was to create a public method in the code-behind for the control that can go through and detach any known behaviors that would cause garbage collection problems. It would be up to the client code to know to call this before removing the control from the panel.
