  • Accessing PCI Device from user space programs

    I have a device which would be interface with my processor through pcie. I have written driver for it using the existing pci file operations. Now my problem is how do I access it from user space programs? PCI File operations do not have IOCTL support and hence I cant make an ioctl call unlike other char devices. I cannot use pci_config_read_byte etc. functions as they are meant for kernel space(included in linux/pci.h).

  • Replace an Array with an Array

    I have and NSMutableArray and I want to replace it with another, but if I try to do it like this... firstArray = secondArray; ...then it seems to erase the entire firstArray and I get this error message.. Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSRangeException', reason: '*** -[NSCFArray objectAtIndex:]: index (0) beyond bounds (0)' ...and the bounds should be (6) not (0). Is there a correct way to replace the array? PS: I already checked the secondArray and it functions fine.

My query originally returned (amongst other details) the values "SpentTotal" and "UnderSpent" for all members/users for the current month.     I realize standard C++ only picks functions by argument type, not return type. I.e I can do something like: void func(int); void func(double); but not double func(); int func(); Where in the former, it's clear, in the latter, it's ambigious. Are there any extensions that lets me tell C++ to pick which function to use also by return type? Thanks!

  • event vs thread programming on server side.

    We are planning to start a fairly complex web-portal which is expected to attract good local traffic and I've been told by my boss to consider/analyse node.js for the serve side. I think scalability and multi-core support can be handled with an Nginx or Cherokee up in the front. 1) Is this node.js ready for some serious/big business? 2) Does this 'event/asynchronous' paradigm on server side has the potential to support the heavy traffic and data operation ? considering the fact that 'everything' is being processed in a single thread and all the live connections would be lost if it got crashed (though its easy to restart). 3) What are the advantages of event based programming compared to thread based style ? or vice-versa. (I know of higher cost associated with thread switching but hardware can be squeezed with event model.) Judging from the MSDN API reference, all relevant functions are located in the ClusAPI.h and ResAPI.h headers, but unfortunately it seems as if they haven't been ported yet and HeaderConv seems to fail on them. Does anyone has experience in doing such a thing?

    i use file_get_contents() to get dinamic data. here is my script... $str = file_get_contents("http://cba.am/"); some sript here... it works fine for a long time, but now it returns Connection timed out. and what is strange, when i run the script from local server, it works fine. could you tell me why, and what can i do, to solve this. maybe i must set the higher timeout time in php.ini? I've only done a little bit with .asp pages and I'm thinking I'd just Post or Get a URL with some variables: MySite.com/Functions.asp?FunctionName=?Paramater1=somevalue?Parameter2=... I'm wondering if there is any better way to go about this? Am I missing something? Is there perhaps a better way to go about this?

  • My IF statement is changing variables in PHP

    I am fairly new to the whole programming thing, so forgive me if this is a stupid question. It seems odd that I haven't run into it before. I am trying to make an order form for a cake. You fill out the form, submit it, and it will then display the order in a new window, where you then hit "submit," and upload it to the Database. I have a series of If Statements to check for errors in the form before submitting it. Here is a simplified version of the code. Writing means any writing you want on the cake, Name is your name, and cake is what type of cake you want (the default is "None"). try { $name = trim($params->name); $cake = trim($params->cake); $writing = trim($params->writing); if (strlen($name) < 3){ throw new Exception("Please enter Your name."); } if ($cake = "None") { throw new Exception("Please select a Cake" } if ($cake = "Caramel Apple Pie" or $cake = "Pumpkin Pie" or $cake = "Eggnog Pie" and strlen($writing) > 1) { throw new Exception("We are sorry, but you can't write on any of our specialty pies."); } } catch(Exception $x) { $error = $x->getmessage(); } So what is happening is that when I go and hit submit the first time, the correct cake type comes up, but when you submit it the second time, the error comes up saying that I have "None" selected. All the other values are there and remain the same. I think the problem is that the first "IF" statement (Where it says "If($cake = "None")) is automatically changing $cake to "None" because I have tried commenting just that statement out, and it will then change the cake to be "Caramel Apple Pie," which is in the top of the next IF statement. Anyone know why it is doing this? And how to fix it?

  • Datastructure choices for highspeed and memory efficient detection of duplicate of strings

    I have a interesting problem that could be solved in a number of ways: I have a function that takes in a string. If this function has never seen this string before, it needs to perform some processing. If the function has seen the string before, it needs to skip processing. After a specified amount of time, the function should accept duplicate strings. This function may be called thousands of time per second, and the string data may be very large. This is a highly abstracted explanation of the real application, just trying to get down to the core concept for the purpose of the question. The function will need to store state in order to detect duplicates. It also will need to store an associated timestamp in order to expire duplicates. It does NOT need to store the strings, a unique hash of the string would be fine, providing there is no false positives due to collisions (Use a perfect hash?), and the hash function was performant enough. The naive implementation would be simply (in C#): Dictionary<String,DateTime> though in the interest of lowering memory footprint and potentially increasing performance I'm evaluating a custom data structures to handle this instead of a basic hashtable. So, given these constraints, what would you use? EDIT, some additional information that might change proposed implementations: 99% of the strings will not be duplicates. Almost all of the duplicates will arrive back to back, or nearly sequentially. In the real world, the function will be called from multiple worker threads, so state management will need to be synchronized.
