  • Entity binding WPF

    - by morphsd
I'm doing some auction sale app and I'm new to Entity Framework. I used quickest way to create and bind Wpf control and entity(wizard and drag and drop) so VS2010 generated a lot of code for me. Now I have a problem... WPF control isn't syched to my entity. I read some articles and I understood that I have to use IObservable. Is there an easy way to do that without writing that generated code manually?

  • URL Controller Mapping Strategies (PHP)

    - by sunwukung
This is kind of an academic question, so feel free to exit now. I've had a dig through Stack for threads pertaining to URL/Controller mapping in MVC frameworks - in particular this one: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/125677/php-application-url-routing So far, I can ascertain two practices: 1: dynamic mapping through parsing the URL string (exploded on '/') 2: pattern matching matching url to config file containing available routes I wanted to get some feedback (or links to some other threads/articles) from folks regarding their views on how best to approach this task.

  • Do JVMs on Desktops Use JIT Compilation?

    - by destructo_gold
I always come across articles which claim that Java is interpreted. I know that Oracle's HotSpot JRE provides just-in-time compilation, however is this the case for a majority of desktop users? For example, if I download Java via: http://www.java.com/en/download, will this include a JIT Compiler?

  • Improve long mysql query

    - by John Adawan
I have a php mysql query like this $query = "SELECT * FROM articles FORCE INDEX (articleindex) WHERE category='$thiscat' and did>'$thisdid' and mid!='$thismid' and status='1' and group='$thisgroup' and pid>'$thispid' LIMIT 10"; As optimization, I've indexed all the parameters in articleindex and I use force index to force mysql to use the index, supposedly for faster processing. But it seems that this query is still quite slow and it's causing a jam and maxing out the max mysql connection limit. Let's discuss how we can improve on such long query.

  • STL class for reference-counted pointers?

    - by hasen j
This should be trivial but I can't seem to find it (unless no such class exists!) What's the STL class (or set of classes) for smart pointers? UPDATE Thanks for the responses, I must say I'm surprised there's no standard implementation. I ended up using this one: http://www.gamedev.net/reference/articles/article1060.asp

  • Require further reading on Custom Installers in .Net?

    - by IbrarMumtaz
Anybody got any good reading articles and tutorials on custom installers as most on the web seem to be outdated? The MS e-book for the 70-536 exam covers this but very lightly, as it does not cover the use of the ServiceProcessInstaller class or something like that??? I'm mentioning this here because I have seen this on quite a few exams.

  • jQuery resize width on firefox

    - by LM35DT
    I'm doing some experiments with jquery n widths for a liquid column and I'm not sure why it isn't working on firefox. It works fine on IE6,7,8 Chrome, Opera(sluggish). I found some articles about firefox not recognizing the .resize attribute but no explanation/solution =\ $(document).ready(function(){ $(midCol).width((window,$(window).width()) - 470) $(window).resize(function(){$(midCol).width((window,$(window).width()) - 470) }) });

  • Gimpel's PC-lint and Flexelint; Anyone used them?

    - by samoz
So I've read a few magazine articles and the website for Gimpel's PC-lint and Flexelint C/C++ compiler. It's really expensive (at least for me), but it seems like it might have some merit to warrant the cost. So I'm wondering if anyone else has used/bought them and can provide their opinions?

  • Java Thread - Memory consistency errors

    - by Yatendra Goel
I was reading a Sun's tutorial on Concurrency. But I couldn't understand exactly what memory consistency errors are? I googled about that but didn't find any helpful tutorial or article about that. I know that this question is a subjective one, so you can provide me links to articles on the above topic. It would be great if you explain it with a simple example.

  • What is Logically and semantically correct, A-grade browsers compatible and W3C valid way to clear f

    - by metal-gear-solid
What is Logically correct and W3C valid way to clear float? zoom:1 is not valid by W3C and IE8 don't have hash layout problem overflow:hidden and overflow:hidden were not made to do this,as the spec intended overflow to be used <div class="clear"/> is not semantically correct and i don't want to add extra markup. clearfix hack generates content that really hasn’t any semantic value. I've asked many questions and read many articles on this issue but haven't find best way.

  • Good books and resources on user interface testing

    - by josefx
I am looking for good books and articles on user-interface testing. What they should contain (one or more of): different test methods/strategies examples, use cases naming pros and cons for different methods something important I might have forgotten :-) What they should not be: Only about general tests and not gui tests describing a test framework limited to a single language What are the best resources you know of? (preferably language agnostic)

  • Web Application Auditing

    - by Adonis L
How can I audit a web application specifically database changes, when the application is connecting to the database as a system account? I would like to use a simple database trigger to write to an audit table but I am unsure of how I would be able to add the user that is logged on instead of the account that is actually doing the work. I have read a few articles on identity flow but I do not fully understand the concept.

  • asp.net custom web user control -- button

    - by jreedinc
Is it possible to create a custom button -- web user control? I want certain java scripts to trigger when buttons are clicked. If so, are there any articles out there that explain the basics? I completely understand that I can load javascript via .js link or dynamically at page load, but I would like to just drop a control on the page without manually adding code to every page on every one of my projects.

  • Language to choose for developing website.

    - by Ravi
What is the best language for developing a website. I know its kind of an odd question. I recently saw a lot of articles for developing a website and they all chose PHP. I mostly work in Java technologies, so was wondering is Java limited to web application and not for websites.

  • Setting of IIS memory settings for ASP.NET

    - by user54064
We are running an ASP.NET app on a web server with 4GB+ of memory in IIS 6. After reading many articles, it states that we need to set the "maximum memory used" for the Application Pool to 800mb to eliminate the "out of memory exceptions" that are happening for us. However, what should the "maximum virtual memory" in the Application Pool be set to? I can't find information as to what that should be set to.
