  • Are There Any Other Web Programming Languages That Can Be Used Without A Framework Aside From PHP?

    - by Ygam
Python needs a framework, so does Java (for the web). I don't know much about Ruby or Coldfusion. But is there another language out there for the web that can stand alone as it is without a need for a framework or without strict adherence to a design pattern (MVC and the likes) aside from PHP? BTW, the statement that Python and Java needs a framework to work with the web came purely from my readings on articles and books; I might be mistaken.

  • What to check to see if server has enough free resources?

    - by kyrisu
The windows service I am writing will need to run some processor intensive operations once in a while (sound encoding wav - mp3) on a machine that takes part in real time voice communication (so I cannot just run them any-time). What would you check (what counters maybe) before running such operation? Can you point me to any good articles?

  • When to use reflection to convert datarow to an object

    - by Daniel McNulty
I'm in a situation now were I need to convert a datarow I've fetched from a query into a new instance of an object. I can do the obvious looping through columns and 'manually' assign these to properties of the object - or I can look into reflection such as this: http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/11914/Using-Reflection-to-convert-DataRows-to-objects-or What would I base the decision on? Just scalability??

  • Why remote git server should have --bare

    - by dorelal
I am reading these two articles. However I still do not get --bare option. If the server has no working directory and if a new member of the team clones the project then that person will not get any content. Any further clarification will help on why --bare is needed.

  • JVM memory management & garbage collection book?

    - by Max
Hi. Could anyone advice a book (or any other source) that would thoroughly reveal internals of JVM memory management & garbage collection (optimization, work, circular references, pecularities, discussions for various JVM impls...)? [What I've found so far are separate articles devoted to various aspects but no weighty tome :). Some good materials for Hotspot implementation are here. ] Thanks a lot for any advice you give.

  • Initializr Bootstrap. Knowledgebase. How to create and edit content?

    - by Idle Mind
I am in the process of creating a knowledgebase website for my office and I find bootstrap pretty awesome. Now, people at work, which may not be HTML savvy, will be creating new articles and then posting them to this knowledge base. Is there something you can recommend that would allow such type of user to create a document on somthing similar to Microsoft Word but web based and then publish? Or do I have to write it from scratch? Thanks for any help.

  • DDD and avoiding CRUD

    - by g_b
It seems that on most articles I read, CRUD is to be avoided in DDD as we are dealing with modeling business process and not data. However, I find it hard to see not to have CRUD operations on certain entities. For example, in a school grading system, before teachers can grade students, a SchoolYear has to be present or perhaps a GradingPeriod. I can't see how we can manage GradingPeriods without CRUD. Could someone enlighten me on this?

I wrote in the Hit model (extends ORM) protected $_belongs_to= array( 'page' => array('model'=> $this->parenttype) ); Now it complains about $this-parenttype not being expected?

  • J2EE v6 and .NET 4.0 comparison

    - by sme89288
We are running our applications on .NET 3.5 and are planning on either updating to .NET 4.0 or switching entirely to the Java platform, J2EE v6, as we've heard from some clients that "it's better." Can anyone either explain some of the large differences between the two platforms and maybe what kind of costs would be associated with switching to Java rather than just updating, or point me to some articles or papers that make such comparisons? Thanks!
