• PHP - Too many mysql_query("SELECT .. ") .. ?

  Hey, I'm making an e-shop and to display the tree of categories and all the products with their multiple variations of prices I made like more than 150 mysql_query("SELECT ..."); queries on one page. (If I count the "while" loops). Is it too many, and if yes, can it have any negative effect? (ofc. it takes longer to load the data ..)   I'm taking over a codeigniter project and notice the original dev uses a mixture of short tag and php tags in the views. I think it is already causing me problems in my dev environment.

• Can't use where clause on correlated columns.

  I want to add a where clause to make sure video_count is greater than zero. Only categories which are referenced once or more in video_category.video_id should be returned. Because video_count is not a field in any table I cannot do this. Here is the query. • What is the maximum number of controls that a VBA form can hold?

  I'm currently building an Excel 2003 app that requires a horribly complex form and am worried about limitations on the number of controls. It currently has 154 controls (counted using Me.Controls.Count - this should be accurate, right?) but is probably only about a third complete. The workflow really fits a single form, but I guess I can split it up if I really have to. I see evidence in a Google search that VB6 (this usually includes VBA) has a hard limit of 254 controls in a form. However, I created a dummy form with well over 1200 controls which still loaded and appeared to work just fine. I did get some 'out of memory' errors when trying to add specific combinations of controls though, say 800 buttons and 150 labels, leading me to think that any limit might be affected by the memory requirements of each type of control. Does anyone have any information that might help ensure that I or, more importantly, other users with differing environments don't run into any memory issues with such a large form?

[self.audioPlayer release]; Where do I go from here? Nils are used in a similar fashion throughout the code (and may cause similar problems) - is there a safe way to remove them? I'm new to memory management - how can I discern proper nil usage from bad nil usage?

I have like this : $mytext="that&#039;s really &quot;confusing&quot; and &lt;absolutly&gt; silly"; echo substr($mytext,0,6); The output in this case will be : that&# instead of that's What i want is to count html entities as 1 character then substr, because i always end up with breaked html or some obscure characters at the end of text. Please don't suggest me to html decode it then substr then encode it, i want a clean method :) Thanks

  Hi, So using the regular MongoDB library in Ruby I have the following query to find average filesize across a set of 5001 documents: avg = 0 total = collection.count() Rails.logger.info "#{total} asset creation stats in the system" collection.find().each {|row| avg += (row["filesize"] * (1/total.to_f)) if row["filesize"]} Its pretty simple, so I'm trying to do the same using map/reduce as a learning exercise. This is what I came up with: map = 'function(){emit("filesizes", {size: this.filesize, num: 1});}' reduce = 'function(k, vals){ var result = {size: 0, num: 0}; for(var x in vals) { var new_total = result.num + vals[x].num; result.num = new_total result.size = result.size + (vals[x].size * (vals[x].num / new_total)); } return result; }' @results = collection.map_reduce(map, reduce) However the two queries come back with two different results! What am I doing wrong?

• MySQL import in phpmyadmin (CSV) chokes on quotes

  I am trying to import a .csv file into a MySQL table via phpMyAdmin. The .csv file is separated by pipes, formated like this: data|d'ata|d'a"ta|dat"a| data|"da"ta|data|da't'a| dat'a|data|da"ta"|da'ta| The data contains quotes. I have no control over the format in which I recieve the data -- it is generated by a third party. The problem comes when there is a | followed by a double quote. I always get an "invalid field count in CSV input on line N" error. I am uploading the file from the import page, using Latin1, CSV, terminated by |, separated by ". I would like to just change the "enclosed by" character, but I keep getting "Invalid parameter for CSV import: Fields enclosed by". I have tried various characters with no success. How can I tell MySQL to accept this format in phpMyAdmin? Setting up these tables is the first step in writing a program that will use uploaded gzipped .csv files to maintain the catalog of an e-commerce site.

Now, I could get rid of this warning by adding a useless local := 0; at the top of the procedure, but I wonder if there might not be a better way to structure this to avoid the issue. Anyone have any ideas?

  Hello, Is it available to write a query to use same "LIMIT (from), (count)", but get result in backwards? In example if I have 8 rows in the table and I want to get 5 rows in two steps I would: first step query: select * from table limit 0, 5 first step result: first 5 rows; second step query: select * from table limit 5, 5 second step result: last 3 rows; But I want to get it vice versa. I mean from the first step I want last 3 rows and from the second I want 5 first rows. Thank you for your answer

• Javascript - Jquery .load() and setInterval() issue.

  Let's say I do this: $("#content").load(...); Within what I'm loading some javascript is included: var myCounter = 0; var myInterval = setInterval(function(){ myCounter++; $("#counter-display").html("Count: "+myCounter); }); For an unknown reason, if I reload the content with $("#content").load(...); - myInterval is now being called twice. I tried doing something like: if (myInterval !== undefined){ //dont set interval again } However, it doesn't work. Does anyone know any method so that myInterval is cleared on .load, without needing to put the javascript outside of the loaded file?

• Concept: Mapping irregular shapes (cartoons, sprites) to triangles in OpenGL ES

  I understand how mapping a triangle texture to a triangle works, but how do you map other things? I can't see myself mapping a circle onto a triangle. If it were a quad (square), I could see it happening, but why would a graphic not get warped on a triangle? EDIT: Bonus question: What are some good OpenGL ES tutorials online? Videos and articles count. (I've seen the Stanford University stuff on iTunes U and think it's excellent, but I want more.)

• Best way to export an icon from photoshop?

  Hi, I'm writing a program to notify me of new email. It's mostly complete, I'm just working on the notifyicon code now. It's supposed to display the usual application icon with a box containing the count of unread emails inside it. I created icons for this in photoshop, exported them as 16x16 transparent PNGs, then converted them into windows ico files using ConvertIcon.com. Given that the image was 16x16 and the WinXP system tray uses 16x16 icons, I would assume the images would work. • How to extract all IDs accessed from a mysql general log using the linux commandline?

  This should be a trivial question for anyone who's good with bash/sed/awk. Unfortunately, I'm not, yet :) I've got a general log from MySQL which contains some queries that have a common parameter, they query on a specific id field. The queries look like update tbl set col='binary_values' where id=X; I need to process the log and extract all the IDs that these queries touched, each in it's own line. The purpose of this is to figure out how many times each ID is accessed. Eventually I'd group and count the values. The binary values are indeed binary junk, so they kinda messed up some things I've been trying to do. Eventually we solved the problem temporarily using a python script, but I'm sure the linux command line tool set can do it too. How would you do it?

  I've got a string like this: #################### Section One #################### Data A Data B #################### Section Two #################### Data C Data D etc. I want to parse it into something like: $arr( 'Section One' => array('Data A', 'Data B'), 'Section Two' => array('Data C', 'Data D') ) At first I tried this: $sections = preg_split("/(\r?\n)(\r?\n)#/", $file_content); The problem is, the file isn't perfectly clean: sometimes there are different numbers of blank lines between the sections, or blank spaces between data rows. The section head pattern itself seems to be relatively consistent: #################### Section Title #################### The number of #'s is probably consistent, but I don't want to count on it. The white space on the title line is pretty random. Once I have it split into sections, I think it'll be pretty straightforward, but any help writing a killer reg ex to get it there would be appreciated. (Or if there's a better approach than reg ex...)

  While making a game the MySQL call to get the top 10 is as follows: SELECT username, score FROM userinfo ORDER BY score DESC LIMIT 10 This seems to work decently enough, but when paired with a call to get a individual player's rank the numbers may be different if the player has a tied score with other players. The call to get the players rank is as follows: SELECT (SELECT COUNT(*) FROM userinfo ui WHERE (ui.score, ui.username) >= (uo.score, uo.username)) AS rank FROM userinfo uo WHERE username='boddie'; Example results from first call: +------------+-------+ | username | score | +------------+-------+ | admin | 4878 | | test3 | 3456 | | char | 785 | | test2 | 456 | | test1 | 253 | | test4 | 78 | | test7 | 0 | | boddie | 0 | | Lz | 0 | | char1 | 0 | +------------+-------+ Example results from second call +------+ | rank | +------+ | 10 | +------+ As can be seen, the first call ranks the player at number 8 on the list, but the second call puts him at number 10.   I know how to recursively list directory contents. I will be using Snow Leopard's enumeratorAtURL:includingPropertiesForKeys:options:errorHandler: method to do this. However I want to store my findings into a object hierarchy (of, say, objects of a custom FileOrDirectory class that has isLeaf, children, and count attributes). I need to pre-load the directory and file structure into such a object hierarchy, in order to do whatever I want with NSTreeController and whatnot. I guess the trickiest thing here is to get the children attribute correct in the object hierarchy. Any ideas?

  I'm writing code where I retrieve XML from a web api, then parse that XML using Groovy. Unfortunately, it seems that both XmlParser and XmlSlurper for Groovy strip newline characters from the attributes of nodes when .text() is called. How can I get at the text of the attribute including the newlines? • How should I call the operation that limit a string's length?

  This is a language-agnostic question - unless you count English as a language. I've got this list of items which can have very long names. For aesthetic purposes, these names must be made shorter in some cases, adding dots (...) to indicate that the name is longer. So for example, if article.name returns this: lorem ipsum dolor sit amet I'd like to get this other output. lorem ipsum dolor ... I can program this quite easily. My question is: how should I call that shortening operation? I mean the name, not the implementation. Is there a standard English name for it?

  I have a table ('sales') in a MYSQL DB which should have rightfully have had a unique constraint enforced to prevent duplicates. To first remove the dupes and set the constraint is proving a bit tricky. Table structure (simplified): 'id (unique, autoinc)' product_id The goal is to enforce uniqueness for product_id. The de-duping policy I want to apply is to remove all duplicate records except the most recently created, eg: the highest id Or to put another way, I would like to delete duplicate records, excluding the ids matched by the following query: select id from sales s inner join (select product_id, max(id) as maxId from sales group by product_id having count(product_id) > 1) groupedByProdId on s.product_id and s.id = groupedByProdId.maxId I've struggled with this on two fronts - writing the query to select the correct records to delete and then also the constraint in MYSQL where a subselect FROM clause of a DELETE cannot reference the same table from which data is being removed.

  I am looking for the equivalent of running "File - Save All" before certain Rake macros. What I have so far is: Private Sub Pre_Rake() Dim i As Integer DTE.Documents.SaveAll() For i = 1 To DTE.Solution.Projects.Count If Not DTE.Solution.Projects.Item(i).Saved Then DTE.Solution.Projects.Item(i).Save() End If Next End Sub DTE.Documents.SaveAll works fine, but the for loop does not save the project files as I would expect. If I make a copy of a file in the solution explorer, that file is not included in the project file (.CSPROJ) after Pre_Rake() runs. I would still have to press CTRL-SHIFT-S or File - Save All. So, how to Save All with a Visual Studio Macro?

• VB.NET For Each steps into loop body for an IEnumerable collection! How? Why?

  This is weird. I have a class that inherits from IEnumrable whose Count property is reporting 0 (zero) elements but the For Each loop steps into the loop body and tries to use the variable where it should just be moving on. My code: On Error Resume Next Dim d As Foo For Each d In fooCollection ' use d and throws an exception Next d Weirder still, every time d is accessed i get an exception thrown in the output window: A first chance exception of type 'System.NullReferenceException' but i'm not stopping on the exception (not in a try/catch block). Is "On Error Resume Next" causing this weirdness? Weirdness found: Per Rowland's and JohnH's comments i checked the Foo class: The GetEnumerator method inside of Foo didn't actually return anything! It had an empty body. That coupled with the On Error Resume Next before the loop caused the havoc! Wow this was ugly. Thanks for the clues guys!
