  • Is there a definitive guide for special folders in windows?

    - by the-locster
Is there a definitive guide for special folders in windows? An internet search yielded just a few crumbs of information, e.g. Wikipedia:Special Folders Windows 7 Client Software Logo Program What I'm looking for is an explanation of each folder, its intended purpose, usage scenarios and motivation for its existence (e.g. what does Local App settings provide for that App settings doesn't). A matrix/table of requirements/uses against folder would be handy I think.

  • Is there any way to add references without recompiling in .NET?

    - by Jader Dias
I am using a IoC Container (Castle Windsor) to instantiate classes accordingly to the configuration file. If I want to add classes from a new dll that didn't exist when I compiled the project, there is any way to do that without recompiling? Edit: As this project is a Service Host for WCF service, and the classes that I want to include after compilation are WCF Services I would like also to know if I can include endpoint information about new services without recompiling.

  • How can serialisation/deserialisation improve performance?

    - by dotnetdev
Hi, I heard an example at work of using serialization to serialise some values for a webpart (which come from class properties), as this improves performance (than I assume getting values/etting values from/to database). I know it is not possible to get an explanation of how performance in the scenario I speak of at work can be improved as there is not enough information, but is there any explanation of how serialization can generally improve performance? Thanks

  • IIS7 Itegrated Pipeline Mode: Context.User is intermittently null for Windows Auth

    - by AndyV
Our code relies on checking the Context.User.Identity value in the Global.asax Application_AuthenticateRequest(...) method to retrieve some information about the logged in user. This works fine in classic mode but when I flip IIS to use the Integrated Pipeline "Context.User" comes back as null, but only intermittently. Any ideas why? I have < authentication mode="Windows" and only Windows Auth enabled in the Virtual Directory.

  • Collapsing parent POM into the child

    - by Robert Munteanu
Given a maven project with a parent POM - including mostly plugin and dependency versions - how can I generate a POM which takes the information from the parent, places it into the child and removes the reference to the parent? Ideally this would be done with the maven-assembly-plugin. Update: I need this done automatically, since manually it's boring and tedious. Update 2: I'm preparing the source code for an external and want to deliver only one project, not the whole family.

  • Where to check for heap memory size and its usage statistics etc... in windows?

    - by AKN
Lets say I open some application or process. Did some work with that. Now I closed it. Need to know whether this application caused any memory leak. i.e used up some heap memory and not cleared it properly. Can I get this statistics some how? I'm using Visual Studio (for development) under Windows OS. Even I would be interested in knowing this information for any 3rd party application.

  • Uncatchable errors in node.js

    - by Peter Burns
So I'm trying to write a simple TCP socket server that broadcasts information to all connected clients. So when a user connects, they get added to the list of clients, and when the stream emits the close event, they get removed from the client list. This works well, except that sometimes I'm sending a message just as a user disconnects. I've tried wrapping stream.write() in a try/catch block, but no luck. It seems like the error is uncatchable.

  • Issues declaring already existing NSMutableArray in new class

    - by Graeme
    I have a class (DataImporter) which has the code to download an RSS feed. I also have a view and separate class (TableView) which displays the data in a UITableView and starts the parsing process, storing parsed information in an NSMutableArray (items) which is located in the (TableView) subclass. Now I wish to add a UIMapView which displays the items in the (items) NSMutableArray. Herein lies the issue - I need to somehow get the data from the (items) NSMutableArray into the new (mapView) subclass which I'm struggling with - and I preferably don't want to have to create a new class to download the data again for the mapView class when it already is in the applications memory. Is there a way I can transfer the information from the NSMutableArray (items) class to the (mapView) class (i.e. how do I declare the NSMutableArray in the (mapView) class)? Here's a overview of how the system works: App opened Data downloaded (using DataImporter class) when (TableView) viewDidLoad runs Data stored in NSMutableArray accessible by the (TableView) class And from here I need to access and declare the array from a new (mapView) class. Any help greatly appreciated, thanks. Code for viewDidLoad MapKit: Data *data = nil; NSString *ilocation = [data locations]; NSString *ilocation2 = @"New Zealand"; NSString *inewlString; inewlString = [ilocation stringByAppendingString:ilocation2]; NSLog(@"inewlString=%@",inewlString); if(forwardGeocoder == nil) { forwardGeocoder = [[BSForwardGeocoder alloc] initWithDelegate:self]; } // Forward geocode! [forwardGeocoder findLocation: inewlString]; Code for parsing data into original NSMutable Array: - (void)beginParsing { NSLog(@"Parsing has begun"); //self.navigationItem.rightBarButtonItem.enabled = NO; // Allocate the array for song storage, or empty the results of previous parses if (incidents == nil) { NSLog(@"Grabbing array"); self.datas = [NSMutableArray array]; } else { [datas removeAllObjects]; [self.tableView reloadData]; } // Create the parser, set its delegate, and start it. self.parser = [[DataImporter alloc] init]; parser.delegate = self; [parser start]; }

  • Are comments compiled in to C# Silverlight Applications

    - by LarryDev
Is it safe to store information such as usernames and passwords within comments in your source code? I am not worried about some getting access to my source but I am concerned in regards to someone decompiling my compiled silverlight XAP file. Is anybody 100% sure if the compiler strips off commented code. I would assume it does but I want to be sure. Thanks!

  • List DOM Documents attributes and methods using Javascript

    - by EddyR
Just wondering if it's possible to print and list all methods and attributes available to the DOM document itself using Javascript? So I would get something like so: Document.doctype Document.implementation Document.documentElement Document.createElement Document.createDocumentFragment Document.createTextNode Document.createComment Document.createProcessingInstruction etc... etc... I want to do this to test on different browsers and not have to wade through mountains technical documents from each vendor to get accurate information.

  • iPhone Camera and Image Chooser

    - by PF1
Hi Everyone: I have found a lot of information on using UIImagePickerController to let the user choose the image they want from the Photos application's data. I am wondering how I can create this same effect on 3.0, as it doesn't seem as if a lot of the old code works anymore. In addition, I would like the user to be able to take a new picture from this same pop-up. Thanks for any help!

  • How do I replace values within a data frame with a string in R?

    - by Arturito
short version: How do I replace values within a data frame with a string found within another data frame? longer version: I'm a biologist working with many species of bees. I have a data set with many thousands of bees. Each row has a unique bee ID # along with all the relevant info about that specimen (data of capture, GPS location, etc). The species information for each bee has not been entered because it takes a long time to ID them. When IDing, I end up with boxes of hundred of bees, all of the same species. I enter these into a separate data frame. I am trying to write code that will update the original data file with species information (family, genus, species, sex, etc) as I ID the bees. Currently, in the original data file, the species info is blank and is interpreted as NA within R. I want to have R find all unique bee ID #'s and fill in the species info, but I am having trouble figuring out how to replace the NA values with a string (e.g. "Andrenidae") Here is a simple example of what I am trying to do: rawData<-data.frame(beeID=c(1:20),family=rep(NA,20)) speciesInfo<-data.frame(beeID=seq(1,20,3),family=rep("Andrenidae",7)) rawData[rawData$beeID == 4,"family"] <- speciesInfo[speciesInfo$beeID == 4,"family"] So, I am replacing things as I want, but with a number rather than the family name (a string). What I would eventually like to do is write a little loop to add in all the species info, e.g.: for (i in speciesInfo$beeID){ rawData[rawData$beeID == i,"family"] <- speciesInfo[speciesInfo$beeID == i,"family"] } Thanks in advance for any advice! Cheers, Zak EDIT: I just noticed that the first two methods below add a new column each time, which would cause problems if I needed to add species info multiple times (which I typically do). For example: rawData<-data.frame(beeID=c(1:20),family=rep(NA,20)) Andrenidae<-data.frame(beeID=seq(1,20,3),family=rep("Andrenidae",7)) Halictidae<-data.frame(beeID=seq(1,20,3)+1,family=rep("Halictidae",7)) # using join library(plyr) rawData <- join(rawData, Andrenidae, by = "beeID", type = "left") rawData <- join(rawData, Halictidae, by = "beeID", type = "left") # using merge rawData <- merge(x=rawData,y=Andrenidae,by='beeID',all.x=T,all.y=F) rawData <- merge(x=rawData,y=Halictidae,by='beeID',all.x=T,all.y=F) Is there a way to either collapse the columns so that I have one, unified data frame? Or a way to update the rawData rather than adding a new column each time? Thanks in advance!

  • Know of any Java garbage collection log analysis tools?

    - by braveterry
I'm looking for a tool or a script that will take the console log from my web app, parse out the garbage collection information and display it in a meaningful way. I'm starting up on a Sun Java 1.4.2 JVM with the following flags: -verbose:gc -XX:+PrintGCTimeStamps -XX:+PrintGCDetails The log output looks like this: 54.736: [Full GC 54.737: [Tenured: 172798K->18092K(174784K), 2.3792658 secs] 257598K->18092K(259584K), [Perm : 20476K->20476K(20480K)], 2.4715398 secs] Making sense of a few hundred of these kinds of log entries would be much easier if I had a tool that would visually graph garbage collection trends.

  • How can you dispatch on request method in Django URLpatterns?

    - by rcampbell
It's clear how to create a URLPattern which dispatches from a URL regex: (r'^books/$', books), where books can further dispatch on request method: def books(request): if request.method == 'POST': ... else ... I'd like to know if there is an idiomatic way to include the request method inside the URLPattern, keeping all dispatch/route information in a single location, such as: (r'^books/$', GET, retrieve-book), (r'^books/$', POST, update-books), (r'^books/$', PUT, create-books),
