  • Is it okay to programmatically create UITouch and UIEvent objects to emulate touch events?

    I want to simulate some touches on my UI, without using private API. So one simple way to do it is to simply call those -touchesBegan:withEvent:, -touchesMoved:withEvent:, -touchesEnded:WithEvent: and -touchesCancelled:withEvent: methods inside my custom controls. For that, I would have to create UITouch and UIEvent dummy objects with appropriate data inside. Is this fine with them? Or would they reject my app?

  • NSPredicate that is the equivalent of SQL's LIKE

    I'm looking for a way to use NSPredicate to set a LIKE condition to fetch objects. In addition to that, an OR would be useful as well. I'm trying to do something where if a user searches "James" I can write an NSPredicate that will do the equivalent of: select * from users where firstname LIKE '%James%' OR lastname LIKE '%James%';

    I am creating a calendar control of sorts... One thing I need to know is how many weeks are there in a Month... So NSCalendar rangeOfUnit:inUnit:forDate Seems to be exactly what I need... Except I am noticing something that seems off and I can't quite figure out why this is happening... The following code... Any clues? Edit on 3/20/2010: Seeing as how I couldnt use rangeOfUnit:inUnit:forDate to calculate the number of weeks in a month. I decided to figure out a different way of calculating the same value. I figured I should do this in a non-Gregorian localized way, so I attempted to start with getting the number of days in a week, but I got the result of 28 days in a week.   • release does not free up memory in low-memory condidtion

    I am trying to follow the Apple's recommendation to handle low-memory warnings (found in Session 416 of WWDC 2009 videos) by freeing up resources used by freeing up my dataController object (referenced in my app delegate) that contains a large number of strings for read from a plist: - (void)applicationDidReceiveMemoryWarning:(UIApplication *)application { [_dataController release]; _dataController = nil; NSLog([NSString stringWithFormat:@"applicationDidReceiveMemoryWarning bottom... retain count:%i", [_dataController retainCount]]); } But when I run ObjectAlloc within Instruments and simulate a Low-Memory Condition, I don't see a decrease in the memory used by my app even though I see the NSLog statements written out and the retain count is zero for the object. I do pass references to the app delegate around to some of the view controllers. But the code above releases the reference to the _dataController object (containing the plist data) so I would expect the memory to be freed. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Custom UITableViewCell with 2 UILabel's resized

    I'm struggling to create a custom UITableViewCell (in IB) that has a UIImageView on the left, fixed to the top left corner, then 2 UILabel's adjacent to it, side by side. So the cell looks something like: +---------------------------+ | IMAGE LABEL1 LABEL2 > | +---------------------------+ What I cannot seem to do is to change the frame of LABEL1 so it fits the text is contains, then make sure LABEL2 moves to the left (or right) so it ends up directly adjacent to it, filling all the space for the rest of the cell. So, concentrating on the label text, I'd like cell to look like this: +---------------------------+ | IMAGE Call 123456 > | +---------------------------+ after I've set LABEL1 to "Call" and LABEL2 to "123456" in: - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath Actually I can resize LABEL1 with this: CGSize sizeToMakeLabel = [label.text sizeWithFont:label.font]; label.frame = CGRectMake(label.frame.origin.x, label.frame.origin.y, sizeToMakeLabel.width + 3, sizeToMakeLabel.height); Now the frame for the text "Call" fits this text (confirmed by setting a background color), but the text "123456" doesn't seem to shift to the left, whatever autosizing I set in IB, or methods to resize the cells view? I seem to need the +3 to make sure "Call" didn't look like this "C…" also? I'm using 2 labels so LABEL1 can be in a bold font say.

I would like to create my own custom buttons and link those to the same actions (e.g. back) as the navigation items were linked to and have no bar presented at the top. I was told that one should use navigation bar even though graphically you should design the interaction yourself. How do I go about doing this? I am quite new to navigation bar to start with...     Hey all i am having a weird problem with sending data back to my server. The NSLog output for each value is correct. But for some reason when i put a break on the IF ([data isEqualToString:@"Done"]) it has no return value. I checked each value for what it was sending (and again, it was correct in the NSLog output) and i found that the value "theID" said "Out of scope". Although, again, the NSLog had the value in it correctly? So i searched the forum and found a simular problem. I took their advice and added "RETAIN" to the "theID" value like so: theID = [customObjInstance TID]; [theID retain]; However, that did not solve the issue...     Hello i am using NSOperationQueue to download images in the background. I have created a custom NSOperation to download the images. I put the images in table cells. The problem is if I do [operationQueue setMaxConcurrentOperationCount: 10] and i scroll down several cells the program crashes with EXC_BAD_ACCESS. Every time it crashes at the same place in the table. There are 3 cells one after the other which are for the same company and have the same logo so basically it should download the images 3 times.   • Drawing selected state on custom UITableViewCell

    So I have a customer UITableViewCell whose whole display in drawn in drawRect. When it draws it creates CGLayers so that it can reuse certain pieces when something is changed. I have changed my UITableViewCellSelectionStyle to None because I don't want the default selected view to cover my drawing. So I call setNeedsDisplay in setSelected:animated: for my cell. But by the time drawRect is called, setSelected:animated: has already been called again to deselect the cell. In my table view controller in didSelectRowAtIndexPath I call deselectRowAtIndexPath as Apple advises. Any ideas? Thanks.

  • How to add a view on top of a UIPopoverController

    I've got an iPad app with a “drawer” table displayed in a popover. The user can tap-and-hold on an item in the drawer to drag that item out of it and into my main view. That part works fine; unfortunately, the view being dragged appears under the popover, and is too small to be visible until it's dragged out from underneath it. If I add the view as a subview of the view controller in the popover, it gets clipped by the popover's frame, and as I can't access the UIPopoverController's view, I can't disable its layer's masksToBounds—and that probably wouldn't be a great idea anyway. I suspect that I could use an additional UIWindow with a high windowLevel value to force the dragged view to appear on top of the popover, but this seems like overkill. Is there a better solution?

    I'm trying to hide the iPad keyboard from a modal view controller but it doesn't work. I have tried resignFirstResponder but that doesn't have any affect if we are in a modal view controller. I tried resignFirstResponder in a non-modal UINavigationController with the very same UIViewController and the keyboard hides correctly. Does anyone know how solve this problem? Thanks. [Update] it looks like there's something wrong with my code because the resignFirstResponder does work (I made a simple test case instead of using my code). But I still don't know what the problem is.

    I am working on an application that requires user authentication to access a profile. The profile section is located solely under one tab (and all others tabs do not require authentication). I currently present a authentication view controller modally (and then dismiss on success) when the user selects the profile tab. However, this approach prevents the user from deciding not to register / login (that is, all tabs are hidden once the authentication screen is presented modally). I don't want the user to be able to dismiss the modal view controller, but rather have it modal only for the profile tab. Is this possible? Can I have tabs visible while having a modal view controller? What is the best approach here. Thanks.

  • Why is my toolbar not visible when in landscape mode?

    My aim was to get the application functioning in both landscape and portrait mode, and all I could figure out to do it was this code below. The app was working fine in portrait, but when switched to landscape, the text wouldn't expand (to the right) to fill up the additional space. I made sure my springs/struts where set, and that the parents had "allowResizing" selected in IB.   • audioPlayerDidFinishPlaying not being called during scrolling UITableView

    One of my views is a UITableView which acts as the delegate for an AVAudioPlayer and this table essentially plays sounds when you select a certain row with options to repeat the sound after its finished playing. However, I noticed that if I select a cell with repeat ON for a certain sound and then scroll through the UITableView to select a different sound, it will not call audioPlayerDidFinishPlaying (and therefore not repeat) until after scrolling has stopped. As soon as I stop scrolling, it repeats just fine. Or if I don't scroll at all, it repeats just fine. What could be happening during scrolling that the UITableView is no longer acting as the delegate and calling audioPlayerDidFinishPlaying? Any thoughts?
