  • Open Source/Free Social Networking SDK

    I am currently gathering some technology requirements for a site that will be a social network based. I don't want to re-invent the wheel so i am looking for some type of SDK or collection of tools that can provide me with a way of creating/managing a social network. I understand that no framework will probably fit my exact needs so I am also looking for a flexible/extensible framework. An example extension point would be allowing the user to provide sub networks, maybe a global network that could be sub classified as work and friends. Beyond that it would also be nice to somehow be able to import contacts from other networking sites (Facebook, Linked In, etc). My current technology suite will more than likely consist of the following: IIS 7.0 WCF Data Services SQL Server 2005/2008 ASP.NET front end. So my two questions are 1) C# Open Source Social Network SDK 2) C# Open Source Social Netowrk APIs (facebook, linked in, etc) If there is any more information you may need please let me know.

    i am working on a SMS panel based on .net framework.i just send some messages to my contacts and received their replies.i want to know witch received message is a reply of witch sent message. ex : if i send A and B messages to 1 contact and then it sends back to me X and Y messages as its reply ,now how i can find out X is a answer for witch one A or B messages.in other hand,what about Y message?!!     i am intrested in recommendation engines these days and i wanna improve myself in this area.I am currently reading Programming Collective Intelligence (i think this is the best book about this subject) from OReilly (just started).But i dont have any ideas how to implement engine(what i mean by no idea dont know how to start).Lets say i have project like LastFM in my mind where do (should be implemented on database side or backend side)i start creating recommnedation engine? what level database knowledge will needed? is there any open source ones that can be used for help or any resource? what should be the first steps that i have to do?

  • actionscript swf: why the swf is cached in one web server

    Hi, I have one swf and a program to load this swf. The swf is put in a server. I encounter a weird problem that if I put this swf in serverA, each time my program will issue a http request to that webserver(with 304 response). But when I move the swf from serverA to serverB, some weird things happen, the progrom will only issue the first time http request, and after that, it didn't send any http request, it looks like it uses the cache in the disk. I wonder is how can I configure serverA make the behavior the same as serverB, as I guess the problem may exists in the http response that make the program not retrieving the swf from serverB any more.   • What can't I build in Silverlight?

    First, I know that Silverlight needs to be embedded in a website, usually an asp page. I understand I need a delivery boy. My question is this; What types of apps/projects are so filled with technological hurdles as to make them ridiculous to do in Silverlight versus ASP.net? I know that with perseverance and flexibility I can probably make EVERY app in Silverlight, in some version or another, but which ones would be blatantly simple in, say ASP.net(or even WPF) but quite complicated in Silverlight? Basically what I am asking is if there is any reason I shouldn't consider Silverlight my first stop for every problem, obvious exceptions not with standing(a service or console). For me specifically, at this point, I am only building in house apps.

  • Can I can configure cxf to use a specific XML parser?

    Is there a way to specify which XML parser cxf uses? Either through the cfx.xml file or programmatically? Our app has the Woodstox parser on its classpath, and cxf seems to be using that by default. However, the Woodstox implementation seems to truncate large Base64 encoded byte arrays in the SOAP packet. Removing Woodstox from the classpath eliminates this truncation problem, but that's not an option right now since other parts of our app also depends on Woodstox. It would be ideal if I could simply tell cxf to use another XML parser. Is this possible?

  • Large file uploads from web pages

    Hi folks, I code primarily in PHP and Perl. I have a client who is insisting on seeking video submissions (any encoding) from the public via one of their pages rather than letting YouTube do its job. Server in question is a virtual machine and I can adjust ini settings for max post, max upload size etc as needed. My initial thought is to use a Flash based uploader with PHP on the back end but I wondered if someone might have useful advice and experience on the subject? Peace JG

  • link_to passing paramater and display problem - tag feature - Ruby on Rails

    I have gotten a great deal of help from KandadaBoggu on my last question and very very thankful for that. As we were getting buried in the comments I wanted to break this part out. I am attempting to create a tag feature on the rails blog I am developing. The relationship is Post has_many :tags and Tag belongs_to :post. Adding and deleting tags to posts are working great. In my /view/posts/index.html.erb I have a section called tags where I am successfully querying the Tags table, grouping them and displaying the count next to the tag_name (as a side note, I mistakenly called the column containing the tag name, 'tag_name' instead of just 'name' as I should have) . In addition the display of these groups are a link that is referencing the index method in the PostsController. That is where the problem is. When you navigate to /posts you get an error because there is no parameter being passed (without clicking the tag group link). I have the .empty? in there so not sure what is going wrong here. Silverlight + MSSQL And I'm on the last step when it says "Copy-paste my code and tada it will works"... :-/ But after I added System.Windows.Controls.Data reference it still can't find Error 3 The type or namespace name 'Data' does not exist in the namespace 'System.Windows.Controls' (are you missing an assembly reference?) I really don't miss the reference ... Maybe I need to add it somehow else or ... I really have no idea. (VSWDEE2010)

  • Sharing constants across a WCF service

    I have certain strings which contain special characters so they can not be shared as enum members across a WCF service. (Actually, they are keys for configuration values.) I want to be able to pass in the keys at client side and get back the config values. If there is a change, I only want to change the config keys at one place. Constants would be ideal, because they can be changed as strong references across the entire solution, and the underlaying value could be updated with a service reference update. Currently I can think of two possible solutions: Create a shared assembly and place the constants there Share the constants across the service. The problem is, I can't get the datacontractserializer to serialize the constants. Is that possible at all? Is the shared assembly the only option I have?

  • Autocomplete or Select box? (design problem)

    I'm working on a comparison website, so needless to say the search function is the primary feature of the site. I have two input text boxes and a search button. At the moment, the input text boxes use Ajax to query the database and show a drop-down box, but I'm wondering if it would be more intuitive to use a select box instead? The second box is dependant on the first, as when the first is selected theres another ajax query so only the available options for the first selection appear in the autocomplete box. Autocomplete Pros: - "Feels" right? - Looks more appealing than a select box (css design)? Cons: - the user has to be instructed on how to use the search (made to think?) - Only really works off the bat with javascript enabled. - The user may get confused if they type in what they want and no box appears (i.e., no results) Select Box Pros: - Can bring up the list of options / know whats there from the outset. - We use select boxes every day (locations etc.) so we're used to how they work. (more intuitive?) Cons: - Can look a little unaesthetic when theres too many options to choose from. I'm thinking maybe at most around 100 options for my site over time. Any thoughts on how I could go about this would be appreciated!

    I have got an application that is not compatible to work using IE8 browser. I am looking for a way to to configure Tomcat on which this application run, so the pages could be read by IE8 and treated as if they are IE7 or IE6 By googling so far I found a possible suggestion which say to add to the http response the header: X-UA-Compatible: IE=EmulateIE7 here that tell IE8 to be like IE7. The problem is that this way requires adding a filter that should be added on application level. I'd like to know if any of you is familiar with a more generic way that Tomcat enables to send its http content to be IE7 (or IE6) compatible ?
