• MTU mismatch between GetIfEntry and netsh

  I'm working on pseudo-transport layer software that runs over UDP, providing reliable connection-oriented transmission, as an alternative to TCP. In order to maximize network efficiency, we query the MTU of the "best" network adapter upon initialization. MIB_IFROW row = {0}; row.dwIndex = dwBestIfIndex; dwRes = GetIfEntry(&row); Searching online I found that you can use the following netsh commands to query for this same value, from a command prompt (not a C++ API) netsh interface ipv4 show interfaces netsh interface ipv4 show subinterfaces The troubling issue is that while row.dwMtu may be set to 1500, snooping the network traffic on the sending laptop shows that our packets are fragmented into 1300 byte packets. netsh also reports that the MTU is 1300. Clearly the value reported by netsh command is the actual used values. Anyone know what API I can call to get the same values as netsh?

• SQL 2008 Database tuning advisor won't start

  For some reason I can't get DTA to connect to my development machine. It connects to a remote DB just fine but when I point it to my dev machine I get an error saying: Failed to initialize MSDB database for tuning (exit code: -1073741819). I'm pretty sure it's not a permissions issue since I've used profiler to capture what it's doing and all of the commands it's run so far look fine and are being run under my account which is associated with the sysadmin role, when I run them in sql management studio they go through fine. I'm pretty convinced that the problem is related to creating the objects in MSDB that are used by DTA but I tried creating these manually (I found scripts on the web) and it just seems to push the problem along the line slightly. I'm going out of my mind - have even tried reinstalling SQL but that's not fixed it. I'm using SQL 2008 with SP1 (10.0.2531) on windows server 2008 (patched up to date). SAVE ME!!!!!

• Can I use the TFS Object Model to interact with TFS via F#?

  I am looking for some quick ways to do some (more) complex queries across who has what checked out and things like that (eg. which files have 1 person checked out). I have been learning F# over the last year or so and saw the potential to use both the functional aspects of F# to quickly create some useful and more complex TFS commands. • windbg and symbols

  When I set a breakpoint on one of the methods that appears on top of the stack (!CLRStack), I get lots of these messages for every DLL that the debuggee is referencing including the .NET Framework ones. ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded Further digging into this shows that windbg is not loading every .pdb file that I make available in the symbols path. I've double-checked my symbol's path and it looks OK, but the following commands clearly show that not all PDBs are loaded correctly! 0:000 !sym noisy noisy mode - symbol prompts on 0:000 .reload Reloading current modules ................................................................ DBGHELP: ntdll - public symbols c:\symbols\ntdll.pdb\6992F4DAF4B144068D78669D6CB5D2072\ntdll.pdb .. 0:000 .sympath Symbol search path is: SRV*c:\symbols*C:\xc Expanded Symbol search path is: srv*c:\symbols*c:\xc I've c:\symbols being used for the cache and c:\xc being used for the .NET app PDBs that WinDBG seems unable to find.   Is there any microsoft or even non-official documentation for SOS for Silverlight. Other than a few web posts I have seen zero documentation for it on MSDN. Even official documentation for the CLR version of SOS seems hard to find, this ancient article mentions a sos.htm file that is included in the windows SDK but it doesn't appear to be there any more. Any pointers to debugging Silveright with SOS?   On a Joyent accelerator I'm working with, Ruby and Rubygems were installed when the server was initially setup using Cool Stack. The existing version of Rubygems is version 0.9.2. When it comes to upgrading RubyGems using the 'sudo gem install rubygems-update' and 'sudo update_rubygems' commands, it results in the following error: ./lib/rubygems.rb:124: uninitialized constant Gem::RbConfig (NameError) from setup.rb:24:in `require' from setup.rb:24 Without having much success in rectifying this issue, I wanted to install a fresh version of RubyGems alongside this one. As this is a production server, I want to minimize the amount of environment changes I make on the server. If I install a fresh version of RubyGems from source, how do I set this new installed version of RubyGems as the default version of RubyGems to use?

• Replicate behavior of Android browser

  Hi all, I am writing for Android, and I can't figure out how to replicate the effect of the Android browser where the progress bar is at the top of the screen, with the webview below it, yet when you scroll down, the bar scrolls with the page. I've tried placing both the webview and the progress bar into a scrollview, but when I do that, the webview becomes completely unresponsive and will not load (or respond to any commands, for that matter). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! P.S., I'm using the Eclipse IDE, and I'd like to to continue using the 1.5 SDK if possible to maintain backwards compatibility (and just to be able use my own application -- my phone isn't getting 2.1 for a couple of months).

• Using Kate with Simple Build Tool (SBT)

  Hello I am working with the Kate editor based on the lack of other good tools for Scala development, I am also using IntelliJ however it still has some bugs, and are slow enough to make me impatient. I have just startet using both Kate and SBT, and in that regard I have a little challenge I hope there is an answer for out there on "The Internet". I am using the standard "Build plugin" in Kate and has changed the commands from make to sbt. This works fine, and I am also getting a error report when the sbt fails during compile time. However I really wish to know if it is possible to integrate the compile errors into Kate such that it would be shown under "Errors and Warnings" instead of just in the output tab, where I have to do a manual search for the compile errors. Im guessing that it has something to do with the format of the output, if that is the case maybe it is "just" a smaller adjustment I need to make to the parsing language.

  HI, I started implementing a HTML Browser in Swing. I want to use the Lobo Cobra toolkit because this toolkit inclused a renderer and parser for CSS and JavaScript. The pages are looking very nice and it is easy to use (one class implementation to show a html page). I want to show HTML pages in swing which can show javascript generated and modified objects, like a flashing circle. As far as i know, the cobra toolkit can show static javascript commands like 'document.write' or closwWindow() implementations, but not updating the GUI from a JavaScript. Did someone works with Lobo Cobra Toolkit before and give me some sample code or tips for showing HTML pages with animated JavaScript objects inside.

  I have a ListBox displaying employees with a DataTemplate - it looks very similar to this screenshot. I want to be able to click on the employee photo, drag it and drop it somewhere out of the ListBox. How can I do that? I am not sure how to capture the PreviewMouseLeftButtonDown event of the Image, since it's inside the DataTemplate. Edit: The DataTemplate lives in a separate assembly and the drag/drop logic needs to be in the Window that has the ListBox. Edit2: I am thinking that the right way of doing this is using commands, am I right? Thanks!

  I have to convert .DBF and .FPT files from Visual FoxPro to MySQL. Right now my script works for .DBF files, it opens and reads them with dbase_open() and dbase_get_record_with_names() and then executes the MySQL INSERT commands. However, some fields of these .DBF files are of type MEMO and therefore stored in a separate files ending in .FPT. How do I read this file? I have found the specifications of this filetype in MSDN, but I don't know how I can read this file byte-wise with PHP (also, I would really prefer a simplier solution). Any ideas?

  Greetings all. I'm faced with an issue with basic SMTP.. I would like to set the return-path header to an address other than the Sender address (i.e. From: Header) using SMTP command. I know MAIL -F sets it. • How can I copy files with names containing spaces and UNICODE, when using a shell script?

  I have a list of files that I'm trying to copy and move (using cp and mv) in a bash shell script. The problem that I'm running into, is that I can't get either command to recognize a huge number of files, seemingly because the filenames contain spaces and/or unicode characters. I couldn't find any switches to decode/re-encode these characters. Instead, for example, if I copy "file name.xml", I get "*.xml" and a script error that the file wasn't found for my result. Does anyone know settings or commands that will deal with these files?

  Heya, I need to set up some SET options in Oracle SQLplus command line program each time I use it, such as SET HEADING OFF and the likes to beautify my results. I found that I always have to input each line separately so Set different options and this is becoming annoying since I need to access it many times a day. I found that there's no way to separate different SET commands with semicolumns because it doesn't accept it: SET HEADING OFF; SET LINESIZE 100; returns an error A solution could be adding them to a control script and create a shell alias, but I know control scripts execute and then exit and don't return you control over the command line. So, anybody knows another solution? Or am I missing something?

For starters (both to gdb and to prime this thread) I submit: Ninefinger's gdb primer The gdb quick reference guide, which is useful for telling you what commands are available but not how best to use them.   The limit placed on disk quota in Linux is counted in blocks. However, I found no reliable way to determine the block size. Tutorials I found refer to block size as 512 bytes, and sometimes as 1024 bytes. I got confused reading a post on LinuxForum.org for what a block size really means. So I tried to find that meaning in the context of quota. I found a "Determine the block size on hard disk filesystem for disk quota" tip on NixCraft, that suggested the command: dumpe2fs /dev/sdXN | grep -i 'Block size' or blockdev --getbsz /dev/sdXN But on my system those commands returned 4096, and when I checked the real quota block size on the same system, I got a block size of 1024 bytes. Is there a scriptable way to determine the quota block size on a device, short of creating a known sized file, and checking it's quota usage?

• In windbg, how do I get a heap header address from !heap -l results?

  I am playing around with windbg's !heap command, particular the "-l" switch which detects memory leaks. When -l does detect a leak, I am having problems navigating from its results to a stack trace for the source of the leak. But the output for !heap -l doesn't specify a header address! It's only specififying Entry, User, Heap, and Segment. I've racked my brain looking over the other commands but can't figure out how to get the header address from any of these fields. Can someone help?
