• Gzip not working in browser

  According to whatsmyip.org none of my browsers (Firefox, Chrome etc) on W7 are gzip enabled, it's saying 'NO, your browser is not requesting compressed content' which agrees with Chrome developer tools as I was testing a site and it was complaining that the page and css etc weren't compressed. I've searched for an answer but cannot find anything for this. I've tested from another pc connected to the router and that works fine, something on this pc is broke.... Any help tia

• How to schedule server jobs more intelligently than with cron?

• How do I configure Gnome 3 so that it doesn't pop up a dialog for 'open with files' when I mount a drive?

  I am running Gnome 3 on Ubuntu 11.10. In the file manager, when I click a drive under 'Devices', Gnome 3 always pops up a dialog with the choices 'open with files' and 'eject' and then I need to click 'open with files' to get rid of that dialog. Is there a way to configure Gnome 3 not to do that? I am in file manager already, clicking a drive should show the content in the right pane. Why does it still ask me to 'open with files'?

• Cisco 861 Router forces one-to-one NAT

  My question is: why if I run some file with name aliases for example with content such as: alias lsa="ls -a" directly: $ ./aliases it don't create the alias (may be only in script context). But if I run it with command "source": $ source aliases it do the work? I mean after execution the alias "lsa" existing in context of command shell? "man source" give: "No manual entry for source", and in google I just found that it runs Tcl, but why Tcl influence shell context and bush not?

But this: sudo echo "something" >> /etc/config_file also doesn't work. Is there any way to append to a file in that situation without having to first open it with a sudo'd editor and then appending the new content by hand?

• Encrypt windows 8 file history

  File history is great but it saves your files on the external drive without any encryption and stores them using the exact same folder structure as the originals. If a bad guy gets his hands on the hard drive it could basically not be easier to get to your important files. This was perplexing, since the local site's filter should not be able to see my traffic, right? So I assume my web browsing activity was not going through the VPN tunnel. • Streaming from a second computer

  I play games on my laptop, and they run at about 30-45 fps, which is bearable for me. But when I try to stream, the frame rate drops to 20 or lower, which is unplayable for me. I have a second computer though (a Mac, the laptop is Win7), and I'm wondering if there is anyway to stream the game content (onto Twitch.tv) from my laptop using my Mac. Its is waiting for something.   An svn server that I managed crashed. The server is up and running again, but I can't manage to get svn running anymore.   Is there a way to get rid of escape codes in terminal output? Say even if the script are sending that codes they are ignored by terminal and text displayed as is, without colors, bolds etc. I need to display terminal output on a HTML page. For now i'm using javascript to remove escape codes, but it becomes clunky cause i receive output by chars, and have to wait until all content received then update it, leading in weird effects.

• Problem with waitable timers in Windows (timeSetEvent and CreateTimerQueueTimer)

  I need high-resolution (more accurate than 1 millisecond) timing in my application. The waitable timers in Windows are (or can be made) accurate to the millisecond, but if I need a precise periodicity of, say, 35.7142857141 milliseconds, even a waitable timer with a 36 ms period will drift out of sync quickly. My "solution" to this problem (in ironic quotes because it's not working quite right) is to use a series of one-shot timers where I use the expiration of each timer to call the next timer. Normally a process like this would be subject to cumulative error over time, but in each timer callback I check the current time (with System.Diagnostics.Stopwatch) and use this to calculate what the period of the next timer needs to be (so if a timer happens to expire a little late, the next timer will automagically have a shorter period to compensate). This works as expected, except that after maybe 10-15 seconds the timer system seems to get bogged down, and a few timer callbacks here and there arrive anywhere from 25 to 100 milliseconds late. After a couple of seconds the problem goes away and everything runs smoothly again for 10-15 seconds, and then the stuttering again. Since I'm using Stopwatch to set each timer period, I'm also using it to monitor the arrival times of each timer callback. During the smooth-running periods, most (maybe 95%) of the intervals are either 35 or 36 milliseconds, and no intervals are ever more than 5 milliseconds away from the expected 35.7142857143. During the "glitchy" stretches, the distribution of intervals is very nearly identical, except that a very small number are unusually large (a couple more than 60 ms and one or two longer than 100 ms during maybe a 3-second stretch). This stuttering is very noticeable, and it's what I'm trying to fix, if possible. For the high-resolution timer, I was using the extremely antique timeSetEvent() multimedia timer from winmm.dll. In pursuit of this problem, I switched to using CreateTimerQueueTimer (along with timeBeginPeriod to set the high-resolution), but I'm seeing the same problem with both timer mechanisms. I've tried experimenting with the various flags for CreateTimerQueueTimer which determine which thread the timer runs on, but the stuttering appears no matter what. Is this just a fundamental problem with using timers in this way (i.e. using each one-shot timer to call the next)? If so, do I have any alternatives? One thing I was considering was to determine how many consecutive 1-millisecond-accuracy ticks would keep my within some arbitrary precision limit before I need to reset the timer. So, for example, if I wanted a 35.71428 period, I could let a 36 ms timer elapse 15 times before it was off by 5 milliseconds, then kill it and start a new one.

• Problem connecting to Hsqldb via Hibernate when running a Eclipse GWT project.

  Hi, I'm trying to run a simple GWT project where I'm trying to do a simple persitence via hibernate to a HSQLDB database. The database I'm using I have been using for at least 2 years with several osgi applications without any problems. So all I done is reused the same configuration and added a simple object mapping file. The problem I have is that I get a socket creation error when ever I try to persist the object with in GWT jetty. I now the database is up and running, I can telnet to it, run OSGI projects that uses the same config with out problems. • Removing expired certificates from LDS (new ver of ADAM)

  Hi all. This is my situation: We are in the process of replacing a certificate store currently hosted on Sun's iPlanet with Microsoft's Lightweight Directory Services (new version of ADAM with Server 2008). These certificates have been imported into LDS into an application partition (say o=myorg, C=AU). Under this structure I have around 40,000 OU's each one representing a customer under each customers OU are one or more user (iNetOrg) objects (around 60,000 in all). In each user are one or more certificates in the UserCertificate attribute. A combination of in-house written application code and proprietory PKI code reads and publishes these certficates to validate financial transactions. As the LDAP path of the certificates is stored within the customer certificates (and within the application code) and there is zero appetite for changing any of the code, I have had to pick up the iPlanet directory as a whole and dump it in LDS in the same structure. (I will not be using or hosting a Microsoft CA, just implementing an LDAP compliant directory to host these certificates) We have fully tested the application using the data in LDS and everything works fine - here is my dilema and question (finally, phew!) There was no process put in place for removing revoked or expired certificates, consequently the vast majority of the data is completely useless, the system has been running for about 8 years! I have done a quick analysis and I estimate that at least 80% of the data is no longer valid. As I am taking on responsibility for managing the directory I would like to start with a clean directory. Does anyone have any idea how I can cleanup these expired certificates. I am not a highly experienced scripter but have some background in VB. I have been researching the use of CAPICOM and have a feeling this may be able to be used but in exactly what way I am not sure?? I would prefer to write a script that I could specify an expiration date (say any certs that expired prior to 2010) then run against the LDS paritition. This way I can reuse the script periodically to cleanup the directory (as mentioned above - I have no way to adjust the applications that are writing the certs, this is with a third party). Another, less attractive, alternative is to massage the LDIF file (2.7 million lines!) to rip the certs out prior to the import Any help and advice MUCH appreciated. Cheers Jon

• Trying to read FormsAuthentication tickets to read in other areas of site

I currently have 2 ASP.NET MVC apps in my solution. First I run the first one by setting it to be startup project.   My application is been live from 6 months. The application is host on jboss 7.1 server. From last few days I am finding numerous problem of hanging of jboss server. Though I restart the jboss server again, it does not invoke. I need to restart the server machine itself. • Android app crashes on emulator - logCat shows no errors

  I have just added the SherlockActionBar library to my android project. After some small changes (FragmentActivity - SherlockFragmentActivity, getActionBar() - getSupportActionBar(), imports) it all compiled nicely. After I run the app, however, the debugger stops, as though it had encountered an exception. However, there are no errors shown in the LogCat output. I just can't wrap my head around what's going on. • Problems with inheritance query view and one to many association in entity framework 4

  Hi, I have situation in with I stucked and don't know way out. The problem is in my bigger model, but I have made small example which shows the same problem. I have 4 tables. I called them SuperParent, NamedParent, TypedParent and ParentType. NamedParent and TypedParent derives from superParent. TypedParent has one to many association with ParentType. I describe mapping for entities using queryView. The problem is then I want to get TypedParents and Include ParentType I get the following exception: An error occurred while preparing the command definition. See the inner exception for details. --- System.ArgumentException: The ResultType of the specified expression is not compatible with the required type.
