  Hi I'm inserting an image from the camera (Taking a picture) into the MediaStore.Images.Media datastore. Does anyone know how I can go about displaying the last picture taken? I used Uri image = ContentUris.withAppendedId(externalContentUri, 45); to display an image from the datastore but obviously 45 is not the correct image. I try to pass the information from the previous activity (Camera) to the display activity but I'm assuming due to the photo call back being its own thread the value never gets set. Is this even possible ? The reason why I am using Silverlight is that I want to preview the image before uploading it to server and it is very simple in Silverlight. I failed to do that in JavaScript and that is why Silverlight might be more useful here.

  Let's assume that our system can perform actions, and that an action requires some parameters to do its work. I have defined the following base class for all actions (simplified for your reading pleasure): public abstract class BaseBusinessAction<TActionParameters> : where TActionParameters : IActionParameters { protected BaseBusinessAction(TActionParameters actionParameters) { if (actionParameters == null) throw new ArgumentNullException("actionParameters"); this.Parameters = actionParameters; if (!ParametersAreValid()) throw new ArgumentException("Valid parameters must be supplied", "actionParameters"); } protected TActionParameters Parameters { get; private set; } protected abstract bool ParametersAreValid(); public void CommonMethod() { ... } } Only a concrete implementation of BaseBusinessAction knows how to validate that the parameters passed to it are valid, and therefore the ParametersAreValid is an abstract function. However, I want the base class constructor to enforce that the parameters passed are always valid, so I've added a call to ParametersAreValid to the constructor and I throw an exception when the function returns false. So far so good, right? Well, no. Code analysis is telling me to "not call overridable methods in constructors" which actually makes a lot of sense because when the base class's constructor is called the child class's constructor has not yet been called, and therefore the ParametersAreValid method may not have access to some critical member variable that the child class's constructor would set. So the question is this: How do I improve this design? Do I add a Func<bool, TActionParameters> parameter to the base class constructor? If I did: public class MyAction<MyParameters> { public MyAction(MyParameters actionParameters, bool something) : base(actionParameters, ValidateIt) { this.something = something; } private bool something; public static bool ValidateIt() { return something; } } This would work because ValidateIt is static, but I don't know... • Programmatically modifying a file on Windows Server 2008 (Web Ed.)

  I have written a .NET 2008 application, incorporating Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel, that modifies an existing Excel 2007 spreadsheet. It works perfectly on my WinXP development computer. When I upload the app to a Microsoft Web Server 2008, it opens the file and reads from the file, but when the app tries to save the file, it throws this exception: "System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x800A03EC): 'july2009.xlsx' is read-only. To save a copy, click OK, then give the workbook a new name in the Save As dialog box." The file is NOT read-only, nor is it opened by any other user or app. The app and the Excel file both reside on the D: (data-only) drive. My first instinct was to look at file permissions. When nothing else worked, I literally created a temporary Group, added EVERY user and security entity to it and granted the group full control of the entire D: drive. No luck. Then I tried manually elevating the permission by running my app as administrator. No luck. Finally, I copied the file to my XP development computer and ran the app there. Of course it worked perfectly. Can anyone please tell me how to give my program permission to edit a file on Server 2008? Thanks!

• How do I correctly use Unity to pass a ConnectionString to my repository classes?

  I've literally just started using the Unity Application Blocks Dependency Injection library from Microsoft, and I've come unstuck. This is my IoC class that'll handle the instantiation of my concrete classes to their interface types (so I don't have to keep called Resolve on the IoC container each time I want a repository in my controller): public class IoC { public static void Intialise(UnityConfigurationSection section, string connectionString) { _connectionString = connectionString; _container = new UnityContainer(); section.Configure(_container); } private static IUnityContainer _container; private static string _connectionString; public static IMovementRepository MovementRepository { get { return _container.Resolve<IMovementRepository>(); } } } So, the idea is that from my Controller, I can just do the following: _repository = IoC.MovementRepository; I am currently getting the error: Exception is: InvalidOperationException - The type String cannot be constructed. You must configure the container to supply this value. Now, I'm assuming this is because my mapped concrete implementation requires a single string parameter for its constructor. The concrete class is as follows: public sealed class MovementRepository : Repository, IMovementRepository { public MovementRepository(string connectionString) : base(connectionString) { } } Which inherits from: public abstract class Repository { public Repository(string connectionString) { _connectionString = connectionString; } public virtual string ConnectionString { get { return _connectionString; } } private readonly string _connectionString; } Now, am I doing this the correct way? Should I not have a constructor in my concrete implementation of a loosely coupled type?   I am attempting to write an XML library file that can be read again into my program. However, in the XML header, it is an attribute that the file is encoded in UTF-16. when i read in the file, i get the error: "content not allowed in prolog" this error does not occur when the encoding attribute is manually changed to UTF-8. I am trying to get the above code to write an XML document encoded in UTF-8, or successfully parse a UTF-16 file. the code for parsing in is DocumentBuilderFactory factory = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance(); DocumentBuilder loader = factory.newDocumentBuilder(); Document document = loader.parse(filename); the last line returns the error.

  hello, i'm storing XML values to an entry in my database. Originally, i extract the xml datatype to my business logic then fill the XML data into a DataSet. I want to improve this process by loading the XML right into the T-SQL. Instead of getting the xml as string then converting it on the BL. My issue is this: each xml entry is dynamic, meaning it can be any column created by the user. I tried using this approach, but it's giving me an error: CREATE PROCEDURE spXMLtoDataSet @id uniqueidentifier, @columns varchar(max) AS BEGIN -- SET NOCOUNT ON added to prevent extra result sets from -- interfering with SELECT statements.   I have a SQL db storing passwords that were encrypted through a .NET application, that I need to decrypt through a ColdFusion app. I just can't seem to get things set upproperly for the CF decryption to work. • Two PickerViews in save View issue?

  I'm trying to have 2 pickerviews in the same view. It works except for two things. If one pickerview has more rows than the other the app crashes when picking an item from the pickerview with more items. Also I created an NSLog for the pickerviews and the console shows that I'm picking two items at once when in fact i'm only dealing with one pickerview. I know it sounds a bit confusing but I'm including all the code. • How can I run a BitchX when I don't have ssh or shell access?

  I just installed an IRC bot, B****X (Don't ask, I don't know - the real name is not censored). I did all of the configuration and chmod'ed the pl files to 755, but running it won't work. My host does not allow SSH/Shell (which is how the documentation says to runs he script), but just going to the URL usually works because of this. However, I get a 500 (Internal Server Error) error. Use the XmlInclude or SoapInclude attribute to specify types that are not known statically. I know that adding a [XmlInclude(typeof(C))] attribute with [XmlRoot] would solve the problem. But I want to achieve it dynamically. Because in my project class C is not known prior to loading. Class C is being loaded as a plugin, so it is not possible for me to add XmlInclude attribute there. I tried also with TypeDescriptor.AddAttributes(typeof(AList), new[] { new XmlIncludeAttribute(c.GetType()) }); before var type = typeof (AList); but no use. It is still giving the same exception. Does any one have any idea on how to achieve it?

• Can Castle.Windsor do automatic resolution of concrete types

  We are evaluating IoC containers for C# projects, and both Unity and Castle.Windsor are standing out. One thing that I like about Unity (NInject and StructureMap also do this) is that types where it is obvious how to construct them do not have to be registered with the IoC Container. Is there way to do this in Castle.Windsor? Am I being fair to Castle.Windsor to say that it does not do this? Is there a design reason to deliberately not do this, or is it an oversight, or just not seen as important or useful? I am aware of container.Register(AllTypes... in Windsor but that's not quite the same thing. It's not entirely automatic, and it's very broad. To illustrate the point, here are two NUnit tests doing the same thing via Unity and Castle.Windsor.   What is the proper way to guarantee delivery when using a SwingWorker? I'm trying to route data from an InputStream to a JTextArea, and I'm running my SwingWorker with the execute method. I think I'm following the example here, but I'm getting out of order results, duplicates, and general nonsense. • TypeError: Error #1009 - (Null reference error) With Flash.

  I am not an expert in flash, but i do work with AS and tweak Flash projects , though not having deep expertise in it. Currently i need to revamp a flash website done by one another guy, and the code base given to me, upon execution is throwing the following error. "--- TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at NewSite_fla::MainTimeline/__setProp_ContactOutP1_ContactOut_Contents_0() at NewSite_fla::MainTimeline/frame1() --" The structure of the project is like, it has the different sections split into different movie clips. There is no single main timeline, but click actions on different areas of seperate movie clips will take them between one another. All the AS logic of event handling are written inline in FLA , no seperate Document class exists. Preloader Movie clip is the first one getting loaded. As i understood the error is getting thrown initially itself, and it is not happening due to any Action script logic written inline, because it is throwing error even before hitting the first inline AS code. I am not able to figure Out what exactly it causing the problem, or where to resolve it.
