• reading unformatted fortran file in matlab - which precision?

  I have just written out a file: real*8 :: vol_cel real*8, dimension(256,256,256) :: dense [... some operations] open(unit=8,file=fname,form="unformatted") write(8)dense(:,:,:)/vol_cell close(8) dense and vol_cell are real*8 variables. My code to read this in in Matlab: fid = fopen(fname,'r'); mesh_raw = fread(fid,256*256*256,'double'); fclose(fid); The min and max values clearly show that it is not reading it in correctly (Min is 0 and max is a largish positive real*8). min = 3.3622e+38 max = -3.3661e+38 What precision do I need to set in Matlab to make it read in the unformatted Fortran file? A somewhat related question: This Matlab code I am using reads binary files OK but not unformatted files. Though I am generating this new data on my Mac OSX using gfortran. It doesn't recognize form="binary" so I can't do it that way. Do I need to add some library?

• Why does iOS 5 fail to connect to a server running JDK 1.6, but not JDK 1.5

  We have a Java Socket Server listening on an SSLSocket (port 443) and an iOS application that connects with it. When running on iOS 5.1, the application stopped working when we upgraded the Java version of the server from JDK 1.5 to 1.6 (or 1.7). The app connects just fine to JDK 5 and 6 when running on iOS 6. The iOS app is reporting an error: -9809 = errSSLCrypto. On the Java side, we get javax.net.ssl.SSLException: Received fatal alert: close_notify. On the Java server side, we have enabled all the available cipher suites. On the client side we have tested enabling several different suites, although we have yet to complete a test involving each one individually enabled. Right now, it is failing when we use TLS_DH_anon_WITH_AES_128_CBC_SHA although it has failed with others and we are starting to think it's not the suite. Here is the debug output. • PHP: passing GET between multiple pages

  I'm building a set of pages where I have a number of GET variables and it is often valuable to keep passing it along to the next page. This leads to ugly code where I have to have "if this $_GET variable is set, dynamically add it to this hyperlink". This is, in many senses, not a problem; but I had the thought "there must be a better way to do this", I mean after all basically all I want is to take the '?' and everything after it and append it to the links on that page, it would seem this should be rather simple (or at least possible to do in a for loop). I tried google searching but couldn't find anything, so I figured I'd see if any of you happen to know. Why not use SESSION? Because these pages need to be capable of being bookmarked. Thank you.

• "Anagram solver" based on statistics rather than a dictionary/table?

  My problem is conceptually similar to solving anagrams, except I can't just use a dictionary lookup. I am trying to find plausible words rather than real words. I have created an N-gram model (for now, N=2) based on the letters in a bunch of text. Now, given a random sequence of letters, I would like to permute them into the most likely sequence according to the transition probabilities. I thought I would need the Viterbi algorithm when I started this, but as I look deeper, the Viterbi algorithm optimizes a sequence of hidden random variables based on the observed output. I am trying to optimize the output sequence. Is there a well-known algorithm for this that I can read about? Or am I on the right track with Viterbi and I'm just not seeing how to apply it?

• Passing a variable to jsp when reloading an iframe using javascript

  In my javascript code I load a jsp page in an iframe and pass some variables like this: htmlData[i++]="<iframe id=\"mapframe\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"width:330px;height:300px\" src=\"" + "mapURL.jsp" +"&lat=" + AjxStringUtil.urlComponentEncode("33.65") +"&lng=" + AjxStringUtil.urlComponentEncode("-84.42") +"&accord=" + AjxStringUtil.urlComponentEncode(accord) +"\"></iframe>"; Then I have to reload that jsp page after an action, and I do this: accord = ui.newHeader.text(); document.getElementById('mapframe').contentWindow.location.reload(); The reload works except that the "accord" variable is not getting updated. When I call it from the jsp, it still has its original value. How do I pass the new value when reloading the iframe/jsp? It shouldn't make any difference, but I am working with jquery and this is for a Yahoo zimlet. Thanks.

  It is fairly well known in JavaScript that declaring variables within the global scope is a bad thing. So code I tend to work on contains namespaced JavaScript. There seems to be two different approaches taken to this - Adding your application specific functions to the libraries' namespace e.g. $.myCarouselfunction Creating your own namespace e.g. MyApplication.myCarouselFunction I wanted to know whether or not there is a 'better' solution or if they tend to meet somewhere close in terms of pros and cons. The reason for me personally deciding not to go with the library is for Seperation / Isolation / Lack of conflict with library code and potential plugins that are likely to share that namespace. • Screening (multi)collinearity in a regression model

  I hope that this one is not going to be "ask-and-answer" question... here goes: (multi)collinearity refers to extremely high correlations between predictors in the regression model. How to cure them... well, sometimes you don't need to "cure" collinearity, since it doesn't affect regression model itself, but interpretation of an effect of individual predictors. One way to spot collinearity is to put each predictor as a dependent variable, and other predictors as independent variables, determine R2, and if it's larger than .9 (or .95), we can consider predictor redundant. This is one "method"... what about other approaches? Some of them are time consuming, like excluding predictors from model and watching for b-coefficient changes - they should be noticeably different. Of course, we must always bare in mind specific context/goal of analysis... Sometimes, only remedy is to repeat a research, but right now, I'm interested in various ways of screening redundant predictors when (multi)collinearity occurs in a regression model.

• Clean bindings with structs

  I have a model class for which it makes quite a lot of sense to have NSSize and NSPoint instance variables. This is lovely. I'm trying to create an editing interface for this object. I'd like to bind to size.width and whatnot. This, of course, doesn't work. What's the cleanest, most Cocoa-y solution to this problem? Of course I could write separate accessors for the individual members of every struct I use, but it seems like there should be a better solution.

• How can one put together multiple arrays into one string?

  I'm having a hard time describing what I'm looking for. If we pretend that we're pulling an array (I've used the .split to get user input data) where each line represents a link. How can I then add an anchor tagg to that link that I'm pulling? I need to be able to put < a href=" + thearray + "anything< /a. The reason for this is that I'm dynamically creating a list. I think that if I create two variables, one with this part < a href=" one with the closing and then call some sort of function that puts those two and the pulled array in between them until the list is complete. Does this make any sense?

  Hello, What are the ways to communicate with a kernel module from user space? By communication i mean sending information and commands between the module and a user space process. I currently know of two way: open/close/read/write/ioctl on published device node. read/write on exported and hooked /proc file. More specifically, can someone advice the best way to communicate with a kernel module that does not actually drives any hardware and therefore should not be littering /dev with stub nodes that exists solely for ioctl calls? I mostly need to check its various status variables and send it a block of data with a request type tag and see if the request succeeded. Inso.

There are "compound Boolean" values used throughout .NET, and I want to design some of my own. I've been using a series of Boolean variables, which works, but just isn't the same. It's ok to accept. So addListener will hold a function body containing 'apply'. But what I don't understand, when addListener is called, what kind of parameters it is going to have? particularly _method and args will always be uninitialized?

  Hi, I've been slowly working my way through the examples in Beginning iPhone Development and there are a few things that I have not been able to figure out, but I'm sure you guys can help me with it. In Eclipse there is a Source-Generate Getters/Setters, can you do something similar to synthesize properties in Xcode I also cannot seem to find a Refactor menu I'm also struggling to find the equivalent to Source-Override/Implement Methods --Edit-- I failed to describe my problem it seems. I do know that synthesizing properties will generate getters/setters for me, but I am looking for a way to generate the @property/@synthesize code, by selecting the variables. Short list to start with, but I will probably have more as my confusion grows in might. :)

  Hi all, I am trying to create a page that shows the user their zip code when they are on my page. (if any of you are familiar with GeoIP data, thats what I am using. ) I have a conversion that converts the users IP address into an IP number, that conversion is: ipnum = 16777216*w + 65536*x + 256*y + z where w.x.y.z are the ip sections (000.000.000.000) My question is, using $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR']; is there a way for me to section the users ip address and assign the section of the ip address to variables? for example: usersip = 192.168.123.5 w = 192; x = 168; y = 123; z = 5; Thanks!

  I have a class that I can have many instances of. Inside it creates and initializes some members from a 3rd party library (that use some global variables) and is not thread-safe. I thought about using static boost::mutex, that would be locked in my class constructor and destructor. • Determine if a day of week and time fall in a custom weekend period

  I've been trying to come up with a method, that given a day of week and time of day, it will return if it falls under a custom weekend period. The weekend period is saved in 4 variables as follows: The day of week when it starts (0-6) The time of day when it starts (0-23) The day of week when it ends (0-6) The time of day when it ends (0-23) Based on these fields, the weekend period can be anything the user selected (even if it is well beyond a regular weekend) I've been banging this one for awhile but to no avail. I'm trying this in delphi but any language will do, as I'm looking for the algorithm and not the implementation.

  Let's suppose I have the following line in a CSV file (I removed the header row in this example): "500,000",2,50,2,90000 I have a PHP script read the CSV file, break the file into individual lines, and store each line in an array called $linearray. Then, I use a foreach loop to look at each line individually. Within the foreach loop, I break the line into separate variables using the following function: $line = str_replace("'","\'",$line); From here, I insert the values into separate columns within a MySQL database. The script works. The values are inserted into a database, but I run into a problem. I want: "500,000" | 2 | 50 | 2 | 90000 But I get this: "500 | 000" | 2 | 50 | 2 | 90000 The script isn't smart enough to understand it should skip commas within quotation marks. Do you know how I can alter my script to make sure I get the output I'm looking for? Thanks.

Should I be keeping the variables around after I call glDrawArrays?

• javascript table - update on data request

  Hi, I am trying to update a table based on a json request. The first update / draw works fine - but any subsequent changes to the variables (the start and end date) do not show up - even though the json pulled from the server seems to be correct (according to firebug).   Hi All, This is my first winform app in .NET... I have made a couple of ASP.NET app... In this app, I have some common variables, like current user name, his selected process etc.. etc.. This should be made accessible from all forms in the app at any time... How could I do this... Is there any place like "Session" in ASP.NET here... Further How do coders generally pass information from one form to another... Here I want to pass on the info I acquired in the first form to the subsequent forms... I use constructor overloading and pass the values as parameters... I'm pretty sure there has to be a better way to do it... Thanks for your time...

The problem is only with unchecked boxes. I mean, when you check some checkboxes it sends it as true (and that's right) but when i uncheck them it remains the same (true).

• Passing parameters to a delphi TFrame

  To avoid singletons and global variables I'd like to be able to pass parameters to a TFrame component. However since a TFrame normally is included on form at design time it is only possible to use the default constructor. The parent form can of course set some properties in the OnCreate callback after the TFrame has been created. However this does not ensure that a property is not forgotten, and the dependencies are not as clear as using a constructor. A nice way would be if it was possible to register a factory for creating components while the dfm file is being read. Then the required parameters could be passed to the TFrame constructor when created by the factory. Is there a way of accomplishing this? Or does anyone have a better solution on how to pass parameters to a TFrame?

• Yet another Rails routing question

  I can't seem to grasp the Rails routing just yet. I want to be able to link the site to, for example, ...com/store/xbox360/Mass Effect 2 (which is /store(my controller)/:system/:title). I have the database entries that include the :system and :title variables (?). How would I route these to show up and filter these entries? Or is this something I need to set up in the controller? I'm lost. Thanks so much for your help.
