I’ve install the VS 2013 v3 update and then the SQL Server Data Tools - June 2013 update. I don’t think v3 is required, but it’s a good upgrade to do anyways. http://blogs.msdn.com/b/ssdt/archive/2013/06/24/announcing-sql-server-data-tools-june-2013.aspx

  • Microsoft Silverlight 4 Data and Services Cookbook

    Alas I find my self doing another book review... its not clear to me that I should continue to do that but on this particular book it heads in the right direction. As noted in an earlier post I find the idea of a cook book to be of particular interest and useful in my work with Silverlight. This book has gotten closer then any other to date in building the ideal Silverlight book. Albeit the book does make an attempt to teach Silverlight to some degree but it tends to be more of a reference book,...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? • On Building a Data-Driven E-Commerce Site

    The following is a preprint of an article for the NDC Magazine to be published in Apri.   It had been a long, hard week at work. I had my feet up and was calling my long-distance girlfriend when she popped the question: “Do you know how to build web sites?”   That was about a month ago and, after swearing to her that I spent my days helping other people build their web sites, so I should oughta know a thing or two about how to build one for her. • asp.net mvc 3 iis 7.5 404 error

    - by dm80
    Well works fine on my dev machine. Deploys fine from visual studio 2010 using msdeploy to IIS 7.5 with a site named apps.mydomain.com/myapp. So essentially I want to browse to http://apps.mydomain.com/myapp but when I do I get 404 error. I have Windows authentication enabled only on the site everything else is disabled. I have installed hotfix http://support.microsoft.com/kb/980368. App pool .NET 4 integrated pipeline. I have tried classic pipeline also but doesn't work. Edit 2 executed %windir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\aspnet_regiis.exe -ir still doesn't work What am I doing wrong or do I need to do anything else? - by Smooth
    I have this script that basically has 4 select boxes, what I want is that for the 2 top select boxes, he submits the optionvalue that is selected to an action (which can be found at "ProductKoppeling/ProductKoppelingPartial"), I want to let him submit this data when I click on an option but without page refresh. I tried JSON and I tried Ajax, but I didn't get it working.. • Best Performing ORM for .NET

    - by steve_c
    I'm curious if anyone has done any performance comparisons with any or all of the main players in the .NET ORM space. Specifically I'm interested in comparisons between the following: Linq to SQL NHibernate LLBL Gen Entity Framework Though it seems people don't really consider Linq to SQL a true ORM, I am still including it in this list. Some performance metrics would be nice to see.

  • Log4Net with ASP.NET MVC...nothing happens...

    - by twal
    I am trying to use log4Net with Asp.net MVC and I cannot get anything to happen with it. i created a config that is in my web project root. Here is that config file. <log4net> <root> <level value="INFO" /> <appender-ref ref="RollingLogFileAppender"/> </root> <appender name="RollingFileAppender" type="log4net.Appender.RollingFileAppender"> <file value="C:\DWSApplicationFiles\AppLogs\app.log" /> <appendToFile value="true" /> <rollingStyle value="Size" /> <maxSizeRollBackups value="10" /> <maximumFileSize value="100KB" /> <staticLogFileName value="true" /> <layout type="log4net.Layout.PatternLayout"> <conversionPattern value="%d [%t]%-5p %c [%x] - %m%n" /> </layout> </appender> <appender name="RollingLogFileAppender" type="log4net.Appender.RollingFileAppender"> <file value="C:\DWSApplicationFiles\AppLogs\app.log" /> <appendToFile value="false" /> <datePattern value="-dddd" /> <rollingStyle value="Date" /> <layout type="log4net.Layout.PatternLayout"> <conversionPattern value="%d [%t]%-5p %c [%x] - %m%n" /> </layout> </appender> </log4net> Before I am asked, yes the application has permissions to write to the directory. I use have tested this and the application has permissions to this directoy. here is where I am trying to use log4net. public class HomeController : Controller { readonly log4net.ILog log = log4net.LogManager.GetLogger(System.Reflection.MethodBase.GetCurrentMethod().DeclaringType); public ActionResult Index() { log.Error("In Index "); return View(); } } when I run the appliction and go to this controller. Log4net does nothing. it doesn't create the files in that directory or anything. I have enabled internal debugging for lognet and I get no output errors in the console.   • Cannot iterate of a collection of Anonymous Types created from a LINQ Query in VB.NET

    - by Atari2600
    Ok everyone, I must be missing something here. Every LINQ example I have seen for VB.NET anonymous types claims I can do something like this: Dim Info As EnumerableRowCollection = pDataSet.Tables(0).AsEnumerable Dim Infos = From a In Info _ Select New With {.Prop1 = a("Prop1"), .Prop2 = a("Prop2"), .Prop3 = a("Prop3") } Now when I go to iterate through the collection(see example below), I get an error that says "Name "x" is not declared. For Each x in Infos ... Next It's like VB.NET doesn't understand that Infos is a collection of anonymous types created by LINQ and wants me to declare "x" as some type. (Wouldn't this defeat the purpose of an anonymous type?) I have added the references to System.Data.Linq and System.Data.DataSetExtensions to my project. Here is what I am importing with the class: Imports System.Linq Imports System.Linq.Enumerable Imports System.Linq.Queryable Imports System.Data.Linq Any ideas?
