  Hi All, I have some commercial programming experience although it was not my primary role (C# and Java), SCJP 6 cert, some SQL experience and have been doing a lot of Android programming (I have one app with 36,000 downloads). I have a degree in Chemistry and a Diploma in Programming (half a degree made up of 2nd/3rd year uni courses). I'm trying to get my first entry level programmer job but am finding it tough out there.......How did other people get there first jobs in programming?

  I thought I read that when a Ruby on Rails server is running in production mode, it won't say so much about an error (the details, showing the code)... but I just try to run the server using ruby script/server -e production and add a <%= x %> with the local variable x undefined. It showed a lot of error details including the code... is there a way to make it look better?

  I am using the Mac OS X Apple Script Editor and (while debugging) instead of writing a lot of display dialog statements, I'd like to write the results of some calculation in the window below, called "Result" (I have the German UI here, so the translation is a guess).   I am currently troubleshooting a large and unwieldy GUI-based tool in Visual Studio, and was wondering whether there is any way to get some kind of notification (either by writing to the console or through a third-party tool) whenever any handled event occurs. This would make it a lot easier to track down what precisely is going on while I am interacting with this beast.
