• WCF on Win Server 2008 and IIS7 with only net.tcp binding hide IIS features

  Hi all, I've installed HTTP Activation and Non-HTTP Activation IIS's features for Framework.NET 3.0 under WCF Activation feature. I'm trying to remove http and https bindings (under default Web Site) from IIS Manager and leave others (net.tcp, net.msmq, etc.) but if I close and re-open IIS manager I not found any icons in the right panel (Feature View). The only feature I see is IIS Manager Permissions. It's right I don't see them? I hope you can help me. Thank you in advance!

• How to return all aspnet_compiler errors (not just those in first directory)

  Hi there! Is there a way to get the aspnet_compiler to go through all views and return all errors, rather than just the errors in the current view directory? For example, lets say I have a project that has a bunch of folders... Views Folder1 Folder2 Folder3 Folder4 Two of them (Folder2 and Folder3) have errors. aspnet_compiler will run, and only return the errors it comes across in Folder2. It won't return those in Folder3 at the same time. Once I fix the errors in Folder2 and run it again, it'll then pick up the ones in the Folder3. I fix those. And then have to run the tool again, and again until it's all fixed. This is getting annoying!! For reference, here's the command I use: C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_compiler -v / -p "C:\path\to\project" Thanks in advance!

• Prevent OCUnit tests from running when compilation fails

  I'm using Xcode 3.2.2 and the built in OCUnit test stuff. One problem I'm running into is that every time I do a build my unit tests are run, even if the build failed. Let's say I make a syntax error in one of my tests. The test fails to compile and the last successful compilation of the unit tests are run. The same thing happens if one of the dependent targets fail to build - the tests are still run. Which is obviously not what I want. How can I prevent the tests from running if the build fails? If this is not possible then I'd rather have the tests never run automatically, is that possible? Sorry if this is obvious, I'm an Xcode noob. Should I be using a better unit testing framework?

• How to deploy RESTful Web Service onto IIS

  Hi all, I'm new to .Net and IIS. I've created a simple RESTful Web Service in VS2008 and .net 3.5 framework using WCF. I've tested it well with F5 debugging in VS(seems it is auto deployed on Windows Service). Now I want to deploy it on my IIS server so that I can use it remotely. But I cannot find any guide for this. I manually deployed my service folder just as an ASP.net site. But seems it does not work(keep showing 401 error). Can anyone tell me how to deploy it to IIS? It contains a simple GET method and I hope it can be accessed by anomynous clients (because the host IP is 192.168..). I have a web.config file, a .dll and .pdb under /bin folder, a Global.asax and .svc file for my service. The IIS server is on the same machine. Thanks a million.

• Detect aborted connection during ASIO request

  Is there an established way to determine whether the other end of a TCP connection is closed in the asio framework without sending any data? Using Boost.asio for a server process, if the client times out or otherwise disconnects before the server has responded to a request, the server doesn't find this out until it has finished the request and generated a response to send, when the send immediately generates a connection-aborted error. For some long-running requests, this can lead to clients canceling and retrying over and over, piling up many instances of the same request running in parallel, making them take even longer and "snowballing" into an avalanche that makes the server unusable. Essentially hitting F5 over and over is a denial-of-service attack. Unfortunately I can't start sending a response until the request is complete, so "streaming" the result out is not an option, I need to be able to check at key points during the request processing and stop that processing if the client has given up.

• C#: Farm out jobs to worker processes on a multi-processor machine

  Hi there, I have a generic check that needs to be run on ca. 1000 objects. The check takes about 3 seconds. We have a server with 4 processors (and we also have other multi-processor servers in our network) so we would like to create an exe / dll to do the checking and return the results to the "master". Does anyone know of a framework for this, or how would one go about it in C#? Specifically: * What's the best way to transfer data between the master and the worker process? * How would the master ensure that always 4 processes are running at any one time and as soon as a worker process is finished start a new one. * How to register that the worker is finished and append it's results to a list? • Is an IQueryable a query or just an object which can be queried?

  I'm kinda confused what the IQueryable interface actually represents. The MSDN documentation for IQueryable says: "Provides functionality to evaluate queries against a specific data source." The documentation for IQueryProvider says: "Defines methods to create and execute queries that are described by an IQueryable object." The name and the documentation summary suggest that it is an object/data store which can be queried. The second quote and the fact the ObjectQuery class from the Entity Framework implements IQueryable suggest it is a query which can be executed. Did I misunderstood something or is it really kinda fuzzy?

• Platform configuration for projects in VS 2010

  I have a third-party project type in Visual Studio which for some reason only supports the .NET Platform configuration for the build, for all other (standard C#) projects in the solution I only have AnyCPU. Unfortunately, ever since upgrading to VS 2010 it produces following error when built : Error 39 The OutputPath property is not set for project 'ReferencedBusinessProject.csproj'. Please check to make sure that you have specified a valid combination of Configuration and Platform for this project. Configuration='Debug' Platform='.NET'. This error may also appear if some other project is trying to follow a project-to-project reference to this project, this project has been unloaded or is not included in the solution, and the referencing project does not build using the same or an equivalent Configuration or Platform. C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\Microsoft.Common.targets 483 10 CustomTypeProject It's pretty much descriptive in what is missing but I haven't found any way to fix it so far. Do you have any idea how this can be resolved or what can be the problem ?

  I have a WCF service that supports about 10 contracts, we have been supporting a client with all the business rules specific to this client now we have another client who will be using the exact same contracts (so we cannot change that) they will be calling the service exactly the same way the previous client called now the only way we can differentiate between the two clients is by one of the input parameters. Based on this input parameter we have to use a slightly different business logic – the logic for both the Client will be same 50% of the time the remainder will have different logic (across Business / DAL layers) . I don’t want to use if else statement in each of contract implementation to differentiate and reroute the logic also what if another client comes in. Is there a clean way of handling a situation like this. I am using framework 3.5. Like I said I cannot change any of the contracts (service / data contract ) or the current service calling infrastructure for the new client. Thanks

I used this control in my c# winform application. in my system everything is running fine. now i copied the debug folder to other system which has only .Net Framework 3.5 SP1 installed. in this system is giving me error cannot load dependency Microsoft.VisualBasic.PowerPacks.dll even i set the Copy Local to "true" for "Microsoft.VisualBasic.dll" and "Microsoft.VisualBasic.PowerPacks.Vs.dll" please tell me how to solve this problem

• How to determine which class has called a function

  Hi, I am working on a Flex Front End at the moment, and have been using the Parsley framework for passing messages/events around. I was wondering if there is a simple way for a function (in this case, an event's constructor) to obtain a reference to the object which called it? This is to ensure that a certain event that I am defining can only be dispatched by one specified class. My thinking is to check the caller of the constructor somehow, and throw an error if it is not of the correct type. I am open to suggestions of alternative approaches here, but I would ideally like to stick to using the Parsley 'MessageHandler' approach if at all possible. Thanks for reading guys..

• A realistic and usable (VS2010) MVC2 project template?

  Hello. everybody. The default MVC2 web project template which VS2010 creates when you select "ASP.NET MVC2 Web Application" is quite a nice start... but nowhere near a realistic app framework. E.G.: user accounts without such features as password recover easily customizabile (and maybe multilingual) error messages an interface to manage users, such a searcheable user list, user edit and so on which an admin can use and these are just the beginning of the usual, mandatory basic features a web site of any size may use. Searching through the online projects templates doesn't seem to help, ehiter. Are there any project template sites or else that you are aware of, that gives such features? thanks a lot!

• Maven2 compiles my tests, but doesn't run them

  I have a simple Maven2 project with tests written for TestNG. When I say mvn test Maven2 compiles my test, but don't run them. I already checked this page: http://maven.apache.org/general.html#test-property-name. This is not my case. Anybody can help? Create a key called FacebookDisplayName with a string value, and add the Display Name you configured in the App Dashboard. Create an array key called URL types with a single array sub-item called URL Schemes. Give this a single item with your app ID prefixed with fb.   I am using coredata framework. In my NSManagedObjectModel i am using three entities that are Class, Student and Score where class and student have one-to-many & inverse relationship and Student and Score have also inverse but one-one relationship. Score entity has all optional attributes and having default '0' decimalVaue, which is not assigned at the time new Student is added. But later i want to assign them score individually and also to particular attribute not all of score attributes in a go. I am able to create and add Students to particular Class but dont have any idea how to call particular student and assign them score. For example I want to assign Score'attribute "dribbling" [there are many attributes like "tackling"] a decimal value to Student "David" of Class "Soccer" ,how i can do that?   My shop is trying to formalize the release management process for an OSS product we maintain. It's a sort of a web development framework/CMS kind of thing, as in it's a product that other projects are built on top of. This makes clear communication about the versioning system especially critical for developers that are using the tool. I'm hoping to find some examples of how best to graph this system so we can communicate it better internally and with outside developers. I know there are lots of standards and best practices around versioning, so I'm hoping this extends to some sort of visual vocabulary as well. As one example, there is a nifty graph at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Versioning#Software_Versioning_schemes. Are there any guides out there on how these sorts of things should be designed?

  I've created a simple application .Net Class that converts an excel spreadsheet into a a pdf file. I then get a Excel 2007 application to call this dll which works fine on my development machine. However when i deploy it on to a machine that has both the .net framework and excel 2007, i get this error - run-time error '429' activex component can't create object when i try and register the tlb or the dll , i get error below. the module c:\temp\test\Printlibarary.dll2 was loaded but the entry-point dllregisterserver was not found. Make sure that ...... is a valid dll or ocx file and then try again. Can someone please help me to resolve this.

  Hey all, I'm writing an MSc dissertation and I'm having difficulty getting the longnamesfirst option working in natbib. My University has a very specific referencing style a little like APA, but not quite the same. I've used the docstrip utility to build a basic framework and then edited it to fit the requirements of my University. Having tested it with the simplest possible document; applying my bst then trying it again with one of the defaults (\bibliographystyle{apacite}) I can see than natbib works as intended with apacite. It doesn't however produce correct results with my bst. So my question: How does the .bst file link with natbib to enforce the "longnamesfirst" option?

• Avoid htaccess redirecting to one folder Yii

  I have a website running over Yii Framework, I created a folder in the root path named blog, I installed a wordpress blog under this folder, but the files .htaccess that comes with yii is trying to redirect my request to www.domain.com/blog to the controller/action type which I don't want, I want to treat the blog folder as a completely app with no relation to yii. here is what I've done so far Options +FollowSymLinks IndexIgnore */* RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} "/blog/" RewriteRule (.*) $1 [L] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule . index.php as you can see I added the conditions to avoid redirecting for the blog folder but when I try to access the the url is telling me The page isn't redirecting properly. • Problems with Visual Studio Express installation

  I just installed 'Visual C# 2008 Express Edition' and 'Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition' on my Vista machine. Previously I have been running these in Win XP. When launching the software, starting a new project and trying to build it I get warnings like "The referenced component 'System' could not be found."; one row for each namespace used. I have .NET Framework 3.5 installed and are able to browse through the tabs in 'Add reference', but I cannot make it work. (A re-install did not help.) Is there an easy fix?
