  I tried to install compiz fusion on ubuntu studio 13 and all I got was this Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming.   Hi everyone, my name is Henrik and I joined the JRockit group in 2004. Before that my background was Microsoft, as both a Test Competence lead and as a Program Manager. As an Engineering Manager at Oracle I lead a team of 11 developers. I focus on people management and the daily operations of the department with a heavy focus on interaction and dependencies between the groups and departments here at the Stockholm development site. I also make sure my team deliver on our commitments.   Have you ever been challenged with the situation where your work task asks you to implement functionality in the WebCenter Portal and you browse through the Resource Catalog (Business Dictionary) and find the functionality you need. However when you get started there is small short comings and you ask your self- how can I re-use what is out of the box ca?- I wonder what code I need to use to produce the similar functions and include my new requirements?- Must I write a new taskflow? The answer to above questions are in many times answered with simply you can  do a taskflow customization to out-of-the-box taskflows. In this post I will help you understand how to do such customization. Best described is a 4 step process, see image flow below for illustration: Just to clarify few naming confusions that might occur when go through above process. • Problems with icons and shutting down Ubuntu 12.04

  I recently upgraded from 11-10 to 12.04 as a dual boot (Windows 7) and am having problems with shutting down. I installed from a CD that I burned from the iso file, and to get it to boot from the CD, I needed to install the special help program from Windows that would then recognize the CD as the system booted.The installation gave me my own user account as well as a guest account. For the User account there is no "gear" icon (in the upper RH side) from which to access the shut down menu. Interestingly the icons for the Home folder, the Ubuntu One folder, and the System Settings folder are missing, although there are blank places shows these names if the mouse cursor is positioned over these areas. They will even launch with the press of a key - but no icons are visible. For the Guest account, all of these icons are visible and usable. The problem that occurs in shutting down is that I need to leave the User account, move to the Guest account (so that I can access the top right "gear" icon that has the shut down menu item) and press the shut down button. The problem here is that when the shut own menu appears and I press the confirmation that I wish to shut down the computer, the page blanks (as one might hope in the process of closing down), and then pops up with the log in menu, giving the option of logging in as a User or as a Guest. So the questions are: 1) how do you reinstate the far right top icon from which you can access the shut down drop down menu in the User account page. 2) how do you get the icons to display properly on the Left hand side (Home, Ubuntu One, System Settings, and Workspace Switcher) 3) how do you get the system to turn of when you press the shut down button! Boy oh boy! Thanks a bunch for any help!

  Ringhals nuclear power plant, which is part of the Vattenfall Group, is located about 60 km south-west of the beautiful coastal city of Gothenburg in Sweden. A deep concern to reduce environmental impact coupled with an effort to increase plant safety and operational efficiency have led to a recent surge in investments and initiatives around plant modification and plant optimization at Ringhals. A multitude of challenges were faced by the users in various groups that were involved in these projects. First, it was very difficult for users to easily access complex and layered asset and engineering information, which was critical to increased productivity and completing projects on time. Moreover, the 20 or so different solutions that were being used to view various document formats, not only resulted in collaboration complexity but also escalated IT administration costs and woes. Finally, there was a considerable non-engineering community comprising non-CAD specialists that needed easy access to plant data in an effort to minimize engineering disruption. Oracle's AutoVue significantly simplified the ability to efficiently view and use digital asset information by providing a standardized visualization solution for the enterprise. • How should I take being told that I was wrong?

  On a fairly important project with short timelines I decided to use SubSonic for straight forward data access. I wired up a handful of forms, created matching database tables and POCO's for each and used SubSonic's simple repository mode for the data access. Everything worked well and I was able to bang these forms out pretty quickly and I moved on to other things. Since that time I have heard that using SubSonic was a 'cowboy move' and that it was implemented 'incorrectly' and that 'the person who used it, didn't even know how to use SubSonic'. What I would like to know is, how should I take this? There were and still are no standards for data access at this company, so there is no violation of a standard. The forms worked exactly as requested and saved the data to the database correctly. And with only spending a few days on the forms instead of weeks, saved a lot of time which was used for other functionality in the project. So in light of all of this, I am confused as to what was 'incorrect'. Am I missing something here? Thanks for your answers.

• login takes long time

  I am using Ubuntu 12.04 from past 12 days. In the beginning login was fast enough after I put the password it hardly takes 3 to 4 sec to enter in desktop, but now its taking like more that 40 sec to show desktop after entering password. whats the problem, is there any solution? • How should developers handle subpar working conditions? [closed]

  I have been working in my current job for less than a year and at the beginning didn't have the courage to say anything about the things that bothered me. Now I'm a bit fed up and need things to get better. The first problem is not random but I'll mention it anyway. We are running out of space so every new employee gets a smaller table. We are promised that the space problem will be fixed soon. Almost every employee has a different keyboard, mouse, headphones (if any). Mine are $10 keyboard, some random cheap mouse and some random crappy headphones with a mic. All these were used and dirty when I got them. The number of monitor is 1-3 and with different sizes. I have 2 nice monitors and can't complain but some are given 1 small monitor. When it's their first job they don't have the guts to ask for 2 even if most others have 2. Nobody seems to care too. Project manager asked if it's ok? He obviously said he can handle the 1 small one. Then the manager said you can go ask for 1 more. I'm watching this and think go and ask where? The company is trying to hire more people but is not doing much after the person has signed the contract. We are put in one room that is open to the hallway and it's super noisy. Almost like a zoo at times. Even if nobody is talking the crappy keyboards make too much noise. Is this normal? Am I too negative and should I just do my job with what I was given? Should I demand better things? Should the company have some system that everybody gets things in some price range?

• MVP Pattern Philsophical Question - Security Checking in UI

  Hello, I have a philosophical question about the MVP pattern: I have a component that checks whether a user has access to a certain privilege. This privilege turns on or off certain UI features. For instance, suppose you have a UI grid, and for each row that gets bound, I do a security check to see if certain features in the grid should be enabled or disabled. There are two ways to do this: have the UI/view call the component's method, determine if it has access, and enable/disable or show/hide. The other is have the view fire an event to the presenter, have the presenter do the check and return the access back down to the view through the model or through the event arg. As per the MVP pattern, which component should security checks fit into, the presenter or the view? Since the view is using it to determine its accessibility, it seems more fitting in the view, but it is doing database checks and all inside this business component, and there is business logic there, so I can see the reverse argument too. Thoughts? Thanks.

I am able to access my router from my ubuntu desktop but not even a single site on the internet. i have installed the drivers for my pci wifi card following this procedure : http://steveswinsburg.wordpress.com/2011/03/12/how-to-install-a-d-link-dwa-525-wireless-network-card-in-ubuntu-10-04/ Earlier it didn't connect to the internet and kept prompting me for the password. after i installed the driver it got connected ! but now i cant access the internet and can only access my router. i deleted the resolv.conf file. I have also tried the "rkill" command and it shows it is unlocked. I have even tried pinging the ip's 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4 and i get replies from both. I have also added them on my wifi configuration setup on ubuntu desktop. I am new to ubuntu but learning fast :-) These are the things i don't like about ubuntu, the simple tasks are difficult for a person coming from windows. I am using ubuntu 12.10. please reply at the earliest i would be very thankful.

• Why do my gvfs mounts not show up under ~/.gvfs?

  From what I read, when mounting a network share via nautilus or gvfs-mount the mount point should be in ~/.gvfs. This seems not to be the case for me: I tried mounting both an FTP and SMB share via both nautilus and gvfs-mount under both Ubuntu Maverick and Natty and in none of the cases did I see any mount point under ~/.gvfs. I can access the shares just find in nautilus, but I want to have access via the command line, which is why I need a mount point in the file system. Edit: Debugging following James Henstridge's answer and enzotib's comment revealed that on my laptop gvfs-fuse-daemon is running and consequently gvfs mounts show up in ~/.gvfs, whereas on the 2 workstations where ~/.gvfs remained empty gvfs-fuse-daemon was not running. On all 3 machines there are other gvfs processes running: gvfsd, gvfs-afc-volume-monitor, ... On the laptop, mount | fgrep gvfs yields gvfs-fuse-daemon on /home/xxx/.gvfs type fuse.gvfs-fuse-daemon (rw,nosuid,nodev,user=xxx) That raises the questions: How are shares mounted without gvfs-fuse-daemon running? Is there no mount point created in that case and is every access to the share a gvfs library call? Which daemon is responsible? gvfsd? What's the role of gvfs-fuse-daemon? Does it only create a fuse mount point in ~/.gvfs?
