• error with slap.d while installing any new software

  I am trying to install wireshark (this issue is not specific to wireshark) on my ubuntu box and I keep getting the following error for slap.d: Setting up slapd (2.4.23-6ubuntu6.1) ... Creating initial configuration... mkdir: cannot create directory `/etc/ldap/slapd.d': File exists dpkg: error processing slapd (--configure): subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 Errors were encountered while processing: slapd Besides uninstalling or trying to update open LDAP or slap.d, is there any other action that can be taken to resolve this issue? I am trying the install as root user & I have tried moving the slap.d conf file so far but without any luck. Any thoughts on troubleshooting/resolving this issue will be quite welcome. thank in advance

• Closing the gap between strategy and execution with Oracle Business Intelligence 11g

  Wikipedia defines strategy as a plan of action designed to achieve a particular goal. An example of this is General Electric's acquisitions and divestiture strategy (plan) designed to propel GE to number 1 or 2 place (goal) in every business segment that it operated in. Execution on the other hand can be defined as the actions taken to getting things done. In GE's case execution will be steps followed for mergers/acquisitions or divestiture. Business press has written extensively about the importance of both strategy and execution in achieving desired business objectives. Perhaps the quote from Thomas Edison says it best - "vision without execution is hallucination". Conversely, it can be said that "execution without vision" is well may be "wishful thinking". Research overwhelmingly point towards the wide gap between strategy and execution. According to a published study, 49% of surveyed executives perceive a gap between their organizations' ability to develop and communicate sound strategies and their ability to implement those strategies. Further, of these respondents, 64% don't have full confidence that their companies will be able to close the gap. Having established the severity and importance of the problem let's talk about the reasons for the strategy-execution gap. The common reasons include: -        Lack of clearly defined goals -        Lack of consistent measure of success -        Lack of ownership -        Lack of alignment -        Lack of communication -        Lack of proper execution -        Lack of monitoring       There are multiple approaches to solving the problem including organizational development practices, technology enablement etc. In most cases a combination of approaches is required to achieve the desired result. • Is catching general exceptions really a bad thing?

  I typically agree with most code analysis warnings, and I try to adhere to them. However, I'm having a harder time with this one: CA1031: Do not catch general exception types I understand the rationale for this rule. But, in practice, if I want to take the same action regardless of the exception thrown, why would I handle each one specifically? Furthermore, if I handle specific exceptions, what if the code I'm calling changes to throw a new exception in the future? Now I have to change my code to handle that new exception. Whereas if I simply caught Exception my code doesn't have to change. For example, if Foo calls Bar, and Foo needs to stop processing regardless of the type of exception thrown by Bar, is there any advantage in being specific about the type of exception I'm catching?

• Class Design and Structure Online Web Store

  I hope I have asked this in the right forum. Basically, we're designing an Online Store and I am designing the class structure for ordering a product and want some clarification on what I have so far: So a customer comes, selects their product, chooses the quantity and selects 'Purchase' (I am using the Facade Pattern - So subsystems execute when this action is performed). My class structure: < Order > < Product > <Customer > There is no inheritance, more Association < Order has < Product , < Customer has < Order . Does this structure look ok? I've noticed that I don't handle the "Quantity" separately, I was just going to add this into the "Product" class, but, do you think it should be a class of it's own? Hope someone can help.

Every time I install it shows a dialog box with the message, Requires Installation of Untrusted packages The action would require the installation of packages from not authenticated sources. OK or Repair options does nothing.

• Backbone.js, Rails and code duplication

  I'm building a web app and I need a JS framework like Backbone.js to work with my backend rovided by Rails that mostly return JSON objects after DB queries. Searching on the web I've discovered Backbone which seems to be complete, quite populare and actively developed but I've noticed that a lot of things done by Backbone are simply a duplicte of the works done by Rails: for example validation and models. My idea of "perfect" (for my actual needs) JS mvc (it can't be called mvc but i don't have any other names) is something really simple that has a function for each action in my Rails controller that are triggered by a specific event (user/hash changes, click on a button...) and send requests to the server that respond with a JSON object then I'll load a template or execute some JS code. Do you have any concern/suggestion about my idea? Do you know some "micro" js framework like what i have described? If you have worked with backone.js + rails what can you suggest me?

• Cisco ASA 5505 - L2TP over IPsec

  I have followed this document on cisco site to set up the L2TP over IPsec connection. When I try to establish a VPN to ASA 5505 from my Windows XP, after I click on "connect" button, the "Connecting ...." dialog box appears and after a while I get this error message: Error 800: Unable to establish VPN connection. The VPN server may be unreachable, or security parameters may not be configured properly for this connection. ASA version 7.2(4) ASDM version 5.2(4) Windows XP SP3 Windows XP and ASA 5505 are on the same LAN for test purposes. Edit 1: There are two VLANs defined on the cisco device (the standard setup on cisco ASA5505). - port 0 is on VLAN2, outside; - and ports 1 to 7 on VLAN1, inside. I run a cable from my linksys home router (10.50.10.1) to the cisco ASA5505 router on port 0 (outside). Port 0 have IP 192.168.1.1 used internally by cisco and I have also assigned the external IP 10.50.10.206 to port 0 (outside). I run a cable from Windows XP to Cisco router on port 1 (inside). Port 1 is assigned an IP from Cisco router 192.168.1.2. The Windows XP is also connected to my linksys home router via wireless (10.50.10.141). • Purple screen on boot, iMac

  I have just installed Ubuntu 13.10 (special iMac iso found here) on the new iMac (dual boot). Installation of rEFIt was completed successfully, as well as the installation of Ubuntu itself. After the final reboot, rEFIt sees this distributive and allows the choice. When I select "Boot linux from HD", it sends me to grub screen, where I can select Ubuntu. And then it gets stuck on the purple screen (smpboot: Booting Node 0, Processors #1 -- for the recovery mode) with no further action. Does anybody know a solution to this problem? P.S.: I have also tried both 32 and 64-bit pc distributives (occasionally) with the same result.

• Calendar like tool for managing multiple clients simultaneously?

  I've tried several systems to keep my clients requests / work organized, but somehow they still fall through the cracks. I don't like the idea of a bug tracker-like site for every client (I would not check them all). Ideally, it's all in one page but separated by client. What systems do you guys use? I'm about to just use a spreadsheet with columns for clients. Just curious if there's something better out there :) I've seen smartsheet in action which is basically a really nice spreadsheet that shows bars of time between things that are due. This looks promising.

  I'm in the planning phase of creating an action-rpg for the PC, and I'd like to create a League of Legends style look for the game (animated/cartoony). Any idea which engine best replicates this look? I ask because when I look at a lot of the UDk/Unreal games, they've all got the more realistic 3-D look that I'd like to avoid, so I was wondering if an alternate look was possible on that type of engine. Source SDK and Unity also look very interesting, I just don't know what types of visual capabilities these engines have. Thanks in advance.

• Build Controller status Unavailable issue in TFS2010

  I ran into this problem few days back, I was not able to run the builds because the Build Controller was showing Status as Unavailable. It was showing the below exception: There was no endpoint listening at http://fullmachinename:9191/Build/v3.0/Services/Controller/2 that could accept the message. This is often caused by an incorrect address or SOAP action. See InnerException, if present, for more details. After trying out few things, I looked at below Build Service Properties.   Then, I did below modifications to the Build Services Properties: 1)      Changed the Local Build Service Endpoint(incoming) from http://machinename.domain.com:9191 to http://machinename:9191 2)      Changed the Connect to Team Project Collection (outgoing) from localhost to machine name. http://localhost:8080/tfs/defaultCollection to http://machinename:8080/tfs/DefaultCollection   After that Started the Build Services and it fixed the issue, the Build Controller was showing Available Status and was able to run the builds.

  I am busy writing a WordPress plugin. Now most users have cache plugins installed, they cache the pages. I know also some webservers as nginx have php caching and whatnot. There are also things like memcached. Now I have to admit I do not know exactly how they work, if anyone have some good links on how they work I would be glad. Some links where it's explained simple, not to technical. Now the question. My plugin displays different statistics on posts, they are always different, will this break the caching of the page. To take is a step further, sometimes the statistics of the post needs updating, and there is a small javascript snippet added to the page. Now will these two action result in the page not caching, or am I ok.

• Change permission to mount disk at rdesktop

  I have ubuntu 10.04 and have installed rdesktop 1.7. I have run these commands: sudo umount /media/Tal sudo mount -t ntfs-3g -o uid=1000,gid=1000,umask=0000 /dev/sdb1 /media/Tal rdesktop -0 -r sound:local -f -u administrator -r clipboard:PRIMARYCLIPBOARD -r disk:tal=/media/Tal myip Tal is external hard drive connecting at USB in ntfs file system. I connect to windows 7 I see the hard drive in computer and I can access to files and create new files and folders, But when I try to copy a new file to a folder he show me an error message: You need permission perform this action Your require permission from computer's administrator to make changes to this folder Tal on my computername Disk from Remote Desktop Connection. I try chmod and chown too but I read I linux forum when it ntfs is no use. Some one can help me with my problem?
