• postgresql table for storing automation test results

  I am building an automation test suite which is running on multiple machines, all reporting their status to a postgresql database. We will run a number of automated tests for which we will store the following information: test ID (a GUID) test name test description status (running, done, waiting to be run) progress (%) start time of test end time of test test result latest screenshot of the running test (updated every 30 seconds) The number of tests isn't huge (say a few thousands) and each machine (say, 50 of them) have a service which checks the database and figures out if it's time to start a new automated test on that machine. How should I organize my SQL table to store all the information? Is a single table with a column per attribute the way to go? If in the future I need to add attributes but want to keep compatibility with old database format (ie I may not want to delete and create a new table with more columns), how should I proceed? Should the new attributes just be in a different table? I'm also thinking of replicating the database. In case of failure, I don't mind if the latest screenshots aren't backed up on the slave database. Should I just store the screenshots in its own table to simplify the replication? Thanks!

• Playing a .TS file on iOS

  We're working with some hardware that produces files in the .TS format, and we'd like to play them on an iOS device. (The files are internally consistent with what iOS supports--MPEG-4 video, AAC audio.) We've been investigating three options so far: Roll our own integrated HTTP Live Streaming server and serve up a faux M3U8 playlist from within the app. This... doesn't seem to want to play nice, and we've had mixed luck actually getting the .TS files to play on devices. Unwrap the MPEG-4 and AAC data from the TS file and re-wrap it as MP4. This, I'm told, is exceedingly difficult to do, and I haven't found anything useful online that could shed light on how to do it. We've got code in the pipeline to do it but it won't be ready until long after we need it. If we could do it, I could easily subclass NSURLProtocol and have it working within a matter of hours minutes. Use FFmpeg to implement option #2. FFmpeg seems like a possible solution but it isn't configured to build for iOS and I don't have the background to get it working (whereas the rest of our engineers don't have the Apple background needed.) I think #2 is our best bet, but as I don't know the ins and outs of MPEG-2 TS and MPEG-4, I don't have the ability to put it together myself. Does anybody have any insight into this problem? Perhaps some experience playing local TS files on iOS, or some tips on converting from TS to MP4?

  Am a rookie trying XSLT and XML tranformations for the first time. To start off, i tried a simple sample programs. I expected the Output in Tree format (maintaining the hierarchy) instead i just get " KING" in single line... What could be the problem? PS: I use XMLSpy. Any guideline would be great full. • Searching a document for multiple terms in VBA?

  I'm trying to create a macro to be used in Microsoft Word 2007 that will search a document for multiple keywords (string variables) located in an external Excel file (the reason for having it in an external file is that the terms will often be changed and updated). I've figured out how to search a document paragraph by paragraph for a single term and color every instance of that term, and I assumed that the proper method would be to use a dynamic array as the search term variable. The question is: how do I get the macro to create an array containing all the terms from an external file and search each paragraph for each and every term? • C#JSON serialization

  I'm trying out the HighStock library for creating stock charts. To fill the chart with data, their example specifies this source. The first parameter is unixtime in milliseconds and the second parameter is the stock closing price. I don't know if this is valid json, but I would argue that the following would be a more appropriate way of writing json. [{"Closing":63.15000,"Date":1262559600000},{"Closing":64.75000,"Date":1262646000000}, ... I guess that I have no other option than to adapt to HighStocks syntax. I could solve this by looping and add correct syntax to a string, but that seems rudimentary. Would it be more wise to serialize C# objects to create my json, and if that's the case - how can I reach the syntax specified in the example? Lets just say this is my c# object: public class Quote { public double Date { get; set; } public decimal Closing { get; set; } } Am I making it unnecessary complex? Should I just format a json string?

At first, I thought that my tokenizer class was broken. But after logging all the incoming bytes to the tokenizer, it turns out that the raw bytes in recvb weren't a valid message. I didn't think that corrupted data like this was possible with a tcp data stream. I figured it had to be some type of buffer overflow so I set sock.ReceiveBufferSize = 1024 * 1024 * 8; and the parsing error never, ever occurs in testing (it happens often enough to replicate if I don't change the ReceiveBufferSize). But my question is: why wasn't I seeing an exception or an error state or something if the socket's internal buffer was overflowing before I changed this buffer size?

  I was wondering if its possible to set multiple styles for different pieces of text inside a TextView. Is this even possible ? The reason why I am using Silverlight is that I want to preview the image before uploading it to server and it is very simple in Silverlight. • R plot- SGAM plot counts vs. time - how do I get dates on the x-axis?

  I'd like to plot this vs. time, with the actual dates (years actually, 1997,1998...2010). The dates are in a raw format, ala SAS, days since 1960 (hence as.date conversion). If I convert the dates using as.date to variable x, and do the GAM plot, I get an error. It works fine with the raw day numbers. • Is this a good way to expose generic base class methods through an interface?

  I am trying to provide an interface to an abstract generic base class. I want to have a method exposed on the interface that consumes the generic type, but whose implementation is ultimately handled by the classes that inherit from my abstract generic base. However I don't want the subclasses to have to downcast to work with the generic type (as they already know what the type should be). And is this correct way to remove the event handlers in the Dispose method?   Hi Folks, I am beginner to scripting and vigorously learning TCL for the development of embedded system. I have to Search for the files with only .txt format in the current directory, count the number of cases of each different "Interface # nnnn" string in .txt file, where nnnn is a four or 32 digits max hexadecimal no and o/p of a table of Interface number against occurrence. I am facing implementation issues while writing a script i.e, Unable to implement the data structure like Linked List, Two Dimensional array. I am rewriting a script using multi dimension array (Pass values into the arrays in and out of procedure) in TCL to scan through the every .txt file and search for the the string/regular expression ‘Interface # ’ to count and display the number of occurrences. If someone could help me to complete this part will be much appreciated. • Get an Arduino and Android phone to communicate over the web

  I am writing an Android application to communicate with my Arduino over the web. The Arduino is running a web server through an Ethernet shield. I am attaching my code, but I will explain it here so you will understand what I am trying to do. The Android sends an HTTP request in the format http://192.168.1.148/?Lights=1. The Arduino gets the request, executes the command (in this case turning on some lights) and then responds to the Android device by simply sending the string "Lights=On". The Android will then change the color of the button to notify the user that the command was executed successfully. The Arduino is getting the instruction and executing it and sending the response but my button color is not changing. I know that the Android device is getting the string because I added a debug line to change the text on the button to the received response. Basically this client application already has their soap messages all set up from its past integrations with other companies. So we've opted to just build a web service using an ASMX file that matches the WSDL that they're already setup to consume. Is it possible to get WS-Security working on an ASMX file or is ASMX too simplistic and I have to upgrade to WFC (which I really don't want to do)?

• Python minidom and UTF-8 encoded XML with hash references

  Hi I am experiencing some difficulty in my home project where I need to parse a SOAP request. The SOAP is generated with gSOAP and involves string parameters with special characters like the danish letters "æøå". gSOAP builds SOAP requests with UTF-8 encoding by default, but instead of sending the special chatacters in raw format (ie. bytes C3A6 for the special character "æ") it sends what I think is called character hash references (ie. &#195;&#166;). I don't completely understand why gSOAP does it this way as I can see that it has marked the incomming payload as being UTF-8 encoded anyway (Content-Type: text/xml; charset=utf-8), but this is besides the question (I think). Anyway I guess gSOAP probably is obeying transport rules, or what? When I parse the request from gSOAP in python with xml.dom.minidom.parseString() I get element values as unicode objects which is fine, but the character hash references are not decoded as UTF-8 character codes. It unescapes the character hash references, but does not decode the string afterwards. In the end I have a unicode string object with UTF-8 encoding: So if the string "æble" is contained in the XML, it comes like this in the request: "&#195;&#166;ble" After parsing the XML the unicode string in the DOM Text Node's data member looks like this: u'\xc3\xa6ble' I would expect it to look like this: u'\xe6ble' What am I doing wrong? Should I unescape the SOAP XML before parsing it, or is it somewhere else I should be looking for the solution, maybe gSOAP? Thanks in advance. Best regards Jakob Simon-Gaarde

• C# - parse content away from structure in a binary file

  Using C#, I need to read a packed binary file created using FORTRAN. The file is stored in an "Unformatted Sequential" format as described here (about half-way down the page in the "Unformatted Sequential Files" section): http://www.tacc.utexas.edu/services/userguides/intel8/fc/f_ug1/pggfmsp.htm As you can see from the URL, the file is organized into "chunks" of 130 bytes or less and includes 2 length bytes (inserted by the FORTRAN compiler) surrounding each chunk. So, I need to find an efficient way to parse the actual file payload away from the compiler-inserted formatting. Once I've extracted the actual payload from the file, I'll then need to parse it up into its varying data types. That'll be the next exercise. My first thoughts are to slurp up the entire file into a byte array using File.ReadAllBytes. Then, just iterate through the bytes, skipping the formatting and transferring the actual data to a second byte array. In the end, that second byte array should contain the actual file contents minus all the formatting, which I'd then need to go back through to get what I need. As I'm fairly new to C#, I thought there might be a better, more accepted way of tackling this. Also, in case it's helpful, these files could be fairly large (say 30MB), though most will be much smaller...
