  I had to move a computer account from one OU to another OU for the settings to be same as with other computers in the OU. After the computer account was moved to other domain, i reset the computer account. Now there is no domain access to this computer even using domain admin acccount. The error message is that windows cannot connect to domain because your computer account was not found.I reset the computer account again and that didnt make any difference. Local admin access was possilbe and i tried to change the computer to workgroup to join back to domain, but workgroup changing option is greyed out. Is there any way I can solve this issue. Thanks in advance.

• Force initial Google Drive sync with a non-empty folder?

  I upgraded my iMac with an SSD last night and restored from a Time Capsule backup. Everything is now working substantially zippier and overall better, with the exception of one thing: Google Drive refuses to continue to sync with the Google Drive folder that it'd been using before the upgrade, and I ultimately ended up having to just delete the folder and let it resync from scratch to get past its stubborn error (alternatively, I suppose I could've simply moved the contents, set the path to the now-empty folder, then moved them back). Is there any way to get past this particular issue (for future reference), or is it something that Google put in place to ensure that a new user doesn't go and specify their root drive as the backup destination?

• Microsoft Word RTF formatting breaks after pasting in HTML and saving

  I have developed an HTML e-campaign which uses tables and all the ugly stuff required for HTML emails. I'm pasting this via Open File ( I paste the URL ) and it retrieves the resources ( images ) and pastes the layout in MS Word. When I go and save this as an RTF, close Word and reopen the RTF, the images are broken. Anyone have a clue as to how to work around this issue? I can confirm 100% that the image resource is VALID, it's through http and NOT https. I've tried various advanced options relating to tables/formatting and all to no avail.

• Wireshark (WinPCap) does not see Intel X520-DA2 10 GbE NIC teaming intermittently

  I am running a team of two 10 GigE ports on Intel X520-DA2 network card. They work well in tandem and achieve the desired throughput. However, I see an intermittent issue whereby WireShark and my own application (using WinPCap) only show the underlying ports, failing to recognize the team adapter. Details: Intel 17.4 NIC drivers on Windows Server 2008 R2 with all patches. HP DL370 G6 server. RSS enabled on Intel both underlying Intel NICs. The exact error: Unable to open the adapter (rpcap://\Device\NPF_{401D5903-16E7-41DC-8484-5D96765B9692}). failed to set hardware filter to promiscuous mode

• DSL connection dropping when starting game

  New connection set up last week - have called tech support, signal fine, sending out tech guy tomorrow - however i cant make sense of this using Vista, 2wire connection 6mb ATT conn, wireless, i can browse website, stream video from my PC wirelessly to my xbox, watch Hulu in high res, connection seems fine I load up World of Warcraft, i select Enter World and without fail my 2wire modem 'DSL' light goes red, my internet light goes out, im no longer connected, then after 10 or 15 seconds it works again, but game has kicked me Noticed the same thing on opening or closing Utorrent as well No other phones/devices plugged into the phone jacks in the apartment - why would joining a game cause my DSL to drop? i can only guess it throws a bunch of information to the server when i hit 'enter world' and that causes an issue that shuts my connection down or my router hates me - all help appreciated

• Is this a common/bug on this PPPoE setting for Cisco ASA 5505?

  We have to change the way the firewall setup due to we've changed the internet provider. The way we setup we have ADSL modem and we have to do a full bridge mode and the firewall configuration has to change from Static IP to Use PPPoE option on Outside interface with PPPoE username and password, CHAP authentication, WAN IP and WAN subnet mask. [See the attachment] It's been working ok with the use of PPPoE option however the issue is that if we un-plug the power cable of the firewall. This "Outside" interface turned to blank - NO WAN IP, PPPoE username and password. So basically, we have to retype this information again. Is this common or a bug? Any ideas? Thanks

• MacBook can't use internet, but nslookup and ping both work

  I have a user with a new high-end MacBook Pro that can't use the internet. He can connect to either our wired or wireless network and do things like browse file shares, but can get no further. When I brought the machine in for testing, I found that I could do an nslookup just fine, and I'm able to ping addresses returned by nslookup just fine. I'm even able to bring up web pages by entering the IP address into the address bar directly. However, when I try to ping the domain name rather than the IP address, it just sits there. So apparently I can either do name resolution or communicate with an address, but not both at the same time. Again, these symptoms occur on both the wired and wireless network. Other machines on our network, including a few other Macs, don't have this issue. Any ideas?

• Forcing the from address when postfix relays over smtp

  I'm trying to get email reports from our AWS EC2 instances. We're using Exchange Online (part of Microsoft Online Services). I've setup a user account specifically for SMTP relaying, and I've setup Postfix to meet all the requirements to relay messages through this server. However, Exchange Online's SMTP server will reject messages unless the From address exactly matches the authentication address (the error message is 550 5.7.1 Client does not have permissions to send as this sender). With careful configuration, I can setup my services to send as this user. But I'm not a huge fan of being careful - I'd rather have postfix force the issue. Is there a way to do this?

• Why only the left speakers are working?

  I've just bought a 5.1 speakers and only the left side speakers and the center are working. If I plug in the speakers to my mp3 player than each speaker is working, so the speakers are good. I have windows 7 and I can't configure it. Please help me! I'm sure that the problem is with some settings at the computer. A while ago I had the same issue with some stereo speakers and I can't remember how I've fixed it, but it was only a setting error. I don`t think that my sound card could be the problem, because it's in-built and I have a new motherboard: asus m2n68-am. I've just tested my computer with some stereo head speakers and also only the left one was working. If I start the speakers very loud than the right speakers are making some noise, too I've connected the speakers with a two channels cable. This is the speakers type: genius sw-hf 5.1 5050 v2

  im trying to connect LDAP over StartTLS but Im stuck with an issue. • Swiching webhosting company & database erros.

  Well here comes the situation. I used to have CompanyA for webhosting. (The hosting plan was a shared one). I decided to change the hosting provider and transfer my website to CompanyB, (exclusive IP). The issue that i face is that my webpage is now displayed in two different IP addresses. So i decided to turn-off the website served by the CompanyA. Now the problem is that my database driven website, served by CompanyB, is not driven anymore, although i have added the A record mssql.mywebsite.com with the ipaddress of the database. (The database is served by dedicated db's server). So, what am i doing wrong here?

• Low-cost, Flexible Log Aggregation [closed]

  I'm starting to have quite the collection of Ubuntu VMs that I must manage. I'm starting to investigate Puppet for managing the configuration of all of them, and apticron to let me know what's out of date. But the issue I feel I should deal with sooner than later is log aggregation. I'd like to stay in the free/open source realm for now, seeing that we don't have much budget for something like splunk yet. In addition to syslog, I would like to collect application specific logs (We are running different apps on different machines, from nginx+passenger for rails, to Apache+Tomcat for java, to PHP for expression engine, and mysql/postgresql database server), so that we can analyze the relavent data. For now, I'm just looking to get all the logs one place.

• Linux halts every few seconds

  We're having an issue where one our Linux boxes (Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, running on EC2 with a quadruple-large size, 68GB of RAM and 8 virtual cores with 3.25GHz each) freezes up every few seconds. Typing in an ssh session will freeze, and running strace on one of the Postgresql processes that's running usually shows: 02:37:41.567990 semop(7831581, {{3, -1, 0}}, 1 for a few seconds before it proceeds (it always gets stuck at that semop). OProfile shows that most of the time is spent in the kernel (60%) versus 37% in Postgresql. The result of these halts (which began suddenly a day ago) is that load on the box has gone from 0.7 to 10+, and causes our entire stack to slow done. Any ideas on how to track down what's going on? iostat doesn't show the disks being particularly slow or overloaded, and top shows user cpu % spike from 8% to about 40% whenever these back-ups happen.

• Out of memory Problem

  I'm running a C++ program in Ubuntu 10.04 (32-bit system architecture). If I calculate the amount of memory that my program uses, it comes up to 800MB. I have a 4GB RAM in place. But still before the program even finishes it throws an out of memory exception. Why is that happening ? Is it because of the structure of the memory or implementation problems or what could possibly trigger this issue ? I've had seen this problem quite a number of times before but never understood the reason behind it. Have any of you handled this case before ?

• What happened to Alan Cooper's Unified File Model?

  For a long time Alan Cooper (in the 3 versions of his book "About Face") has been promoting a "unified file model" to, among other things, dispense with what he calls the most idiotic message box ever invented - the one the pops up when hit the close button on an app or form saying "Do you want to discard your changes?" I like the idea and his arguments, but also have the knee-jerk reaction against it that most seasoned programmers and users have. While Cooper's book seems quite popular and respected, there is remarkably little discussion of this particular issue on the Web that I can find. Petter Hesselberg, the author of "Programming Industrial Strength Windows" mentions it but that seems about it. I have an opportunity to implement this in the (desktop) project I am working on, but face resistance by customers and co-workers, who are of course familiar with the MS Word and Excel way of doing things. I'm in a position to override their objections, but am not sure if I should. My questions are: Are there any good discussions of this that I have failed to find? Is anyone doing this in their apps? Is it a good idea that it is unfortunately not practical to implement until, say, Microsoft does it?

• Windows 2003 Enterprise Server becomes unresponsive occasionally

  We're experiencing issues with our Windows 2003 server, which runs SQL Server 2005 SP1. We notice that sometimes the entire server becomes unresponsive and I captured a screenshot of the task manager when this happened. I noticed that the processes are not displayed during this time and all of the memory information and handles disappear (as shown in the screenshot). Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be wrong with this sytem? I'm planning to take it down over the weekend to run Memtest86. I also tried to run a ping when this occurred and I got the following error in the event log: "Application popup: ping.exe - Application Error: The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142). • Running hardware with only 32bit drivers in 64bit windows

  Recently we had to upgrade a system to handle added HD IP cameras. This upgrade involved an entirely new computer build with the exception of a rather pricey Geovision DVR (PCI/GV1480 series). Apparently while these cards do support Windows 7, they do not support Windows 7 x64. I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place here trying to figure out how we can remedy this, is there a virtualization solution that will allow devices with driver issues to passthru to the Guest OS? I was thinking XPMode may work for this solution however I am unsure if it runs 32bit or 64bit and if it'll allow driver-issue devices to pass to it. • Port-forwarding on livebox to router

  Hello, At home, I have two routers, one Livebox and a Netgear. The reason why I need the Livebox is that the phone line cannot be connected to the Netgear router. So I have the Livebox connected to the phone line, the Netgear connected to the Livebox, and all PCs connected to the Netgear. My issue is that for every application or port that I want to give external access, I have to create entry in both the Livebox and the Netgear routers; so I would like to know if there's a way to automatically forward all requests to the Netgear router, from which I will then forward to the required IP:port. • CentOS - PHP - Yum Install with Custom ./configure params

  I have successfully configured and compiled php on my dev server, and works great, but after talking to a sysadmin buddy, he informed that custom compiles of the latest builds are not recommended for production (or even development) systems. He noted a situation where they custom configured and compiled PHP 5.3.6, only to find that there was some issue with a low-level Postgres driver, so they had to revert back to 5.3.3. So I am considering going back to yum to install PHP, however I have several custom configuration settings and was wondering if it's possible to pass or configure how PHP will be compiled through YUM? Some experts are of the opinion that SOA Governance begins with People and Processes but needs to be empowered with technology to achieve the best results. Here's an interesting piece from David Linthicum on eBizq: In the world of SOA, the concept of SOA governance is getting a lot of attention. However, how SOA governance is defined and implemented really depends on the SOA governance vendor who just left the building within most enterprises. Indeed, confusion is a huge issue when considering SOA governance, and the core issues are more about the fundamentals of people and processes, and not about the technology. SOA governance is a concept used for activities related to exercising control over services in an SOA, including tracking the services, monitoring the service, and controlling changes made to the services, simple put. The trouble comes in when SOA governance vendors attempt to define SOA governance around their technology, all with different approaches to SOA governance. Thus, it's important that those building SOAs within the enterprise take a step back and understand what really need to support the concept of SOA governance. The value of SOA governance is pretty simple. Since services make up the foundation of an SOA, and are at their essence the behavior and information from existing systems externalized, it's critical to make sure that those accessing, creating, and changing services do so using a well controlled and orderly mechanism. Those of you, who already have governance in place, typically around enterprise architecture efforts, will be happy to know that SOA governance does not replace those processes, but becomes a mechanism within the larger enterprise governance concept. • ifconfig return "unknown interface: no such device"

  I'm trying to install a Linux driver for my wireless network card (D-Link DWL-G510) on my Red Hat Linux 7.1 machine with a 2.4.37.9 kernel. I downloaded the serial monkey driver from the sourceforge site and was able to successfully compile the rt73 module and load it into the kernel. The problem now is that everytime I issue the command ifconfig wlan0 up it keeps returning with the following error message: wlan0: unknown interface: No such device. I'm at a loss as to what to do here. I specifed wlan0 as the alias for the rt73 module in the modules.conf and also tried to load the driver with the command modprobe rt73 ifname=wlan0 (this specifies the interface name according to the instructions packaged in the driver), but the error message still keeps coming up. Is there something else I need to do in Linux to configure the wlan0 part or is the module not recognizing the wireless network card? It would be quite strange if it is the later since all information from the Internet is indicating this is the linux driver I should be using for mentioned wireless card.

• How to make an excel formula which totals several agecent rows based on cell values

  I have an excel sheet with three columns: date, person and percentage. I would like to put in a data validation that flags cells if the total for a given data/person combination do not equal 100%. Is that possible? In other words, in the custom formula of a data validation, I would like to make the following type of formula. =if(sum( cells with a (date = the date on this row, person = person on this row))=1) Is there a function which will return the cells in a range conditioned on certain values, or will sum the cells. Note that if it is not possible to do two cells, I have no issue adding a cell which combines both values for the purpose of effecting the lookup.
