• Thin, Sinatra, and intercepting static file request to do CAS authentication

  I'm using the casrack-the-authenticator gem for CAS authentication. My server is running Thin on top of Sinatra. I've gotten the CAS authentication bit working, but I'm not sure how to tell Rack to intercept "/index.html" requests to confirm the CAS login, and if the user is not allowed to view the page, return a HTTP 403 response instead of serving the actual page. Does anyone have experience with this? Thanks. • Why can't I declare C# methods virtual and static?

  I have a helper class that is just a bunch of static methods and would like to subclass the helper class. Some behavior is unique depending on the subclass so I would like to call a virtual method from the base class, but since all the methods are static I can't create a plain virtual method (need object reference in order to access virtual method). Is there any way around this? I guess I could use a singleton.. HelperClass.Instance.HelperMethod() isn't so much worse than HelperClass.HelperMethod(). Brownie points for anyone that can point out some languages that support virtual static methods. Edit: OK yeah I'm crazy. Google search results had me thinking I wasn't for a bit there.

• Datacontracts property getter running twice

  I have a set of data contracts that act as wrappers to base classes that we wish to expose. A quick example is: [DataMember] public List<decimal> Points { get { return sourceObject.ListPoints(); } private set{} } We have some other properties that we have to massage the data first (we are converting object graphs and need to guard against circular references). The issue that we are seeing is that this getter will fire twice, once within the service operation, then again during serialization. This is causing two problems: We manually add to collections, since this is running twice the collections are filled with dupes. If an exception is thrown during the second run, it happens outside of the try/catch in the operation, and does not throw a fault. The service throws a cryptic timeout message, and the only way to see the error is via WCF trace logs.

  What is the best method to obfuscate the urls created in Dynamic Data? eg \Products\List.aspx?ProductId=2 could become \Products\List.aspx?x=UHJvZHVjdElkPTI= where "ProductId=2" is base 64 encoded to prevent casual snooping on \Products\List.aspx?ProductId=3 \Products\List.aspx?ProductId=4 etc...? • Debugging Objective C JNI code

  Here is the situation: I have a client's java project open in eclipse. It uses a JNI library created by an Xcode Objective C project. Is there any good way for me to debug the C code from eclipse when I execute the Java code? Obviously eclipse's default debugger cannot step into the jni library file and we lose the thread (thread meaning investigative thread here, not programming thread). Any advice or input is appreciated as the code base is large enough that following the client's code will be radically faster than other options. Thanks. EDIT: It should be noted that the reason that the jni library is written in Objective-C is because it is integrating with Mac OSX. It is using the Cocoa framework to integrate with the Apple speech api.

  I'm thinking of one day moving to Japan and I was wondering if anyone here has any experience working there. I'm curious as to what languages/technology are popular there for web development and software development. I have heard Ruby is/was strong there due to its founder being Japanese. What would you recommend someone focus on if they wanted to work as a developer in Japan? I have heard Microsoft has a strong base in Japan, but my guess is that whatever platform has supported unicode or Shift-JIS the best would be the strongest.

• Find/Replace but Increment Value

  Hello, I have an .HTML file that has many photos attached to it for displaying a photo gallery. I'm replacing old photos with new ones, and I'm thinking there must be a more intelligent way than simply copying and pasting repetitive file names. I would love to be able to replace and increment a file name on each replace, starting at a base file name of my choosing. For example... ...images/69thStreet010.jpg ...images/69thStreet011.jpg ...images/69thStreet012.jpg Basically performing a CTRL+F and REPLACE '69thStreet010.jpg' with... ...images/xyz001.jpg ...images/xyz002.jpg ...images/xyz003.jpg And so on until I want it to stop.   Hello, I am looking for a python library that would allow me to compute stochastic calculus stuff, like the (conditional) expectation of a random process I would define the diffusion. I had a look a at simpy (simpy.sourceforge.net), but it does not seem to cover my needs. This is for quick prototyping and experimentation. In java, I used with some success the (now inactive) http://martingale.berlios.de/Martingale.html library. The problem is not difficult in itself, but there is a lot non trivial, boilerplate things to do (efficient memory use, variable reduction techniques, and so on).   Hey, please help a newbie in Rails :) I have protect_from_forgery call (which is given by default) with no attributes in my ApplicationController class. Basically here's the code: class ApplicationController < ActionController::Base helper :all # include all helpers, all the time protect_from_forgery helper_method :current_user_session, :current_user filter_parameter_logging :password, :password_confirmation What I assume it should do is: it should prevent any POST requests without correct authenticity_token. But when I send post request with jQuery like the one below, it works fine (there's update statement that is executed in the database)! $.post($(this).attr("href"), { _method: "PUT", data: { test: true } }); I see in console that there's no authenticity_token among sent parameters, but request is still considered valid. Why is that?

  Hi - I want to config my app to use a different schema than the default for storing sessions. Basically, I want the app to store all its active_record objects in app_development and only its sessions in app_sessions. Normally this could be done by defining the sessions db in database.yml: development: # ... sessions: host: localhost database: app_sessions username: blah password: sssshhh #.... And then setting in the model: class Session < ActiveRecord::Base establish_connection :sessions #... end But since session doesn't have a model class defined, I'm looking for a way to tell it where to store its data. I've noticed the session comes from ActionController::Session, but couldn't find what I needed there. Any thoughts? thanks.

• Large number array compression

  Hi All, I've got a javascript application that sends a large amount of numerical data down the wire. This data is then stored in a database. I am having size issues (too much bandwidth, database getting too big). I am now ready to sacrifice some performance for compression. I was thinking of implementing a base 62 number.toString(62) and parseInt(compressed, 62). This would certainly reduce the size of the data but before I go ahead and do this I thought I would put it to the folks here as I know there must be some outside the box solution I have not considered. The basic specs are: - Compress large number arrays into strings for JSONP transfer (So I think UTF is out) - Be relatively fast, look I'm not expecting same performance as I have now but I also don't want gzip compression either. • Running NUnit tests in Visual Studio 2010 with code coverage

  We have recently upgraded from Visual Studio 2008 to Visual Studio 2010. As part of our code base, we have a very large set of NUnit tests. We would like to be able to run these unit tests within Visual Studio, but with code coverage enabled. We have ReSharper, so can run the tests within Visual Studio, but it does not allow the code coverage tool to do its thing and generate the coverage statistics. Is there any way to make this work, or will we have to convert the tests over to MSTest?

• Ruby types of collections in ActiveRecord

  If I have an object with a collection of child objects in ActiveRecord, i.e. class Foo < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :bars, ... end and I attempt to run Array's find method against that collection: foo_instance.bars.find { ... } I receive: ActiveRecord::RecordNotFound: Couldn't find Bar without an ID I assume this is because ActiveRecord has hijacked the find method for its own purposes. Now, I can use detect and everything is fine. However to satisfy my own curiousity, I attempted to use metaprogramming to explicitly steal the find method back for one run: unbound_method = [].method('find').unbind unbound_method.bind(foo_instance.bars).call { ... } and I receive this error: TypeError: bind argument must be an instance of Array so clearly Ruby doesn't think foo_instance.bars is an Array and yet: foo_instance.bars.instance_of?(Array) -> true Can anybody help me with an explanation of this and of a way to get around it with metaprogramming?

• Weird Mono compilation error

  Hi, I am using IKVM to get SVNKit on a Mono project I'm working with, I have a class that implements an interface from SVNKit, and I can't compile: On windows and on .NET, everything compiles fine, just getting this on Mono. /home/nubela/Workspace/subsync/subsync/Core/Subversion/PropGetHandler.cs(22,22): Error CS0535: Subsync.Core.Subversion.PropGetHandler' does not implement interface member org.tmatesoft.svn.core.wc.ISVNPropertyHandler.__()' (CS0535) (subsync) I googled _() method, and it seems to be the initializer method for the base class in the Java library compiled from IKVM. I have no clue how to proceed now, any idea guys? :)

Last friday we installed some windows updates. After the reboot tomcat doesn't start anymore, with error: Error occurred during initialization of VM Could not reserve enough space for object heap We reduced the parameter -Xmx1024m to -Xmx768m and now tomcat starts. • WWSAPI and setting "soapenv:Header" values

  I'm trying to connect to a web service from a C++ app using WWS. I got the base connection working just fine. My XML message has two parts though, a header (soapenv:Header) and a body (soapenv:Body). the generated functions only fill in the body. How do I set the Header information? I assumed it has something to do with WsSetHeader() or WsAddCustomHeader() but can't seam to find the right values to use in the parameters. Can someone point me in the right direction here? I've been googling and trying to research this now for several days and am finding many sources for basic help with WWSAPI, but nothing seams to go deeper into how to use it for more advanced applications. any good links or resources to find more advanced help on WWSAPI? • Why does Opera parse my web page as XML?

  I just tried viewing my website http://www.logmytime.de/ in Opera (version 10.50) for the first time and for some reason it gives me an "xml parsing failed error" and refuses to display the web page. I can choose to "Reparse the document as HTML" and then the page works fine, but that's hardly a solution to my problem. The weird thing is that the error still occurs after setting a HTML (instead of XTHML) doctype: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd"> I checked the source output from the browser to make sure I did not make any mistake. I even viewed the same web page in Firebug and it shows a Content-Type of text/html; . So, why does Opera still try to parse my web page as XML? Thanks, Adrian

• Cisco ASA: Allowing and Denying VPN Access based on membership to an AD group

  I have a Cisco ASA 5505 connecting to an Active Directory server for VPN authentication. Usually we'd restrict this to a particular OU, but in this case users which need access are spread across multiple OUs. So, I'd like to use a group to specify which users have remote access. I've created the group and added the users, but I'm having trouble figuring out how to deny users which aren't in that group. Right now, if someone connects they get assigned the correct group policy "companynamera" if they are in that group, so the LDAP mapping is working. However, users who are not in that group still authenticate fine, and their group policy becomes the LDAP path of their first group, i.e. CN=Domain Users,CN=Users,DC=example,DC=com, and then are still allowed access. How do I add a filter so that I can map everything that isn't "companynamera" to no access? • Doctrine lazy loading classes takes 100 ms?!

  I'm lazy loading my Doctrine classes in my website. Benchmarking has showed that Doctrine::loadModels('models') takes over 100 ms to complete! I have 118 tables in total, but still... setting attribute to conservative loading: Doctrine_Manager::getInstance()->setAttribute(Doctrine::ATTR_MODEL_LOADING, Doctrine::MODEL_LOADING_CONSERVATIVE); running the benchmark part: $CI->benchmark->mark('Doctrineload_start'); Doctrine::loadModels(APPPATH.'models'); $CI->benchmark->mark('Doctrineload_end'); And the result: Doctrineload 0.1085 (seconds) Is this 'normal'?
