PHP XML Strategy: Parsing DOM to fill "Bean"

I have a question concerning a good strategy on how to fill a data "bean" with data inside an xml file. The bean might look like this: class Person { var $id; var $forename = ""; var $surname = ""; var $bio = new Biography(); } class Biography { var $url = ""; var $id; } the xml subtree containing the info might look like this: <root>  <person> <name pre="forename"> Foo </name> <name pre="surname"> Bar </name> <id> 1254 </id> <biography> <url> http://www.someurl.com </url> <id> 5488 </id> </biography> </person> </root> At the moment, I have one approach using DOMDocument. A method iterates over the entries and fills the bean by "remembering" the last node. I think thats not a good approach. What I have in mind is something like preconstructing some xpath expression(s) and then iterate over the subtrees/nodeLists. Return an array containing the beans as defined above eventually. However, it seems not to be possible reusing a subtree /DOMNode as DOMXPath constructor parameter. Has anyone of you encountered such a problem?

How to create a rails habtm that deletes/destroys without error?

I created a simple example as a sanity check and still can not seem to destroy an item on either side of a has_and_belongs_to_many relationship in rails. Whenever I try to delete an object from either table, I get the dreaded NameError / "uninitialized constant" error message. To demonstrate, I created a sample rails app with a Boy class and Dog class. I used the basic scaffold for each and created a linking table called boys_dogs. I then added a simple before_save routine to create a new 'dog' any time a boy was created and establish a relationship, just to get things setup easily. dog.rb class Dog < ActiveRecord::Base has_and_belongs_to_many :Boys end boy.rb class Boy < ActiveRecord::Base has_and_belongs_to_many :Dogs def before_save self.Dogs.build( :name => "Rover" ) end end schema.rb ActiveRecord::Schema.define(:version => 20100118034401) do create_table "boys", :force => true do |t| t.string "name" t.datetime "created_at" t.datetime "updated_at" end create_table "boys_dogs", :id => false, :force => true do |t| t.integer "boy_id" t.integer "dog_id" t.datetime "created_at" t.datetime "updated_at" end create_table "dogs", :force => true do |t| t.string "name" t.datetime "created_at" t.datetime "updated_at" end end I've seen lots of posts here and elsewhere about similar problems, but the solutions are normally using belongs_to and the plural/singular class names being confused. I don't think that is the case here, but I tried switching the habtm statement to use the singular name just to see if it helped (with no luck). I seem to be missing something simple here. Django QuerySet API: How do I join iexact and icontains?

Hello, I have this join: lawyers = Lawyer.objects.filter(last__iexact=last_name).filter(first__icontains=first_name) This is the site If you try Last Name: Abbas and First Name: Amr it tells you that amr abbas has 1 schoolmates. But if you try First name only it says that there are no lawyers in the database called amr (obviously there is). If I change (last__iexact=last_name) to (last__icontains=last_name) then leaving Last Name blank works fine and amr is found. But with last__icontains=last_name if you search for "collin" you also get "collins" and "collingwood" which is not what I want. Do you know how I can use iexact and also have it ignored if it is blank? Why do I get "Illegal characters in path" while using XmlDiff to compare 2 xml files?

I have a problem trying to compare 2 xml files with the XmlDiff library from Microsoft. Jquery Flexigrid reload only if flexigrid initially ran

Im trying to use flexigrid to show results using the values from a form. So when a person clicks a form I want it to load the flexigrid function if its the first time the person clicked the button to initialize the table. Then if someone adjusts the values in the form then clicks the button again it then reloads the flexigrid table with the new form values. How can I do this in one function? The first ViewController is opened with the app and displays fine. Table Design For SystemSettings, Best Model

Someone suggested moving a table full of settings, where each column is a setting name(or type) and the rows are the customers & their respective settings for each setting. ID | IsAdmin | ImagePath ------------------------------ 12 | 1 | \path\to\images 34 | 0 | \path\to\images The downside to this is every time we want a new setting name(or type) we alter the table(via sql) and add the new (column)setting name/type. Then update the rows(so that each customer now has a value for that setting). The new table design proposal. The proposal is to have a column for setting name and another column for setting. ID | SettingName | SettingValue ---------------------------- 12 | IsAdmin | 1 12 | ImagePath | \path\to\images 34 | IsAdmin | 0 34 | ImagePath | \path\to\images The point they made was that adding a new setting was as easy as a simple insert statement to the row, no added column. But something doesn't feel right about the second design, it looks bad, but I can't come up with any arguments against it. Am I wrong?

How to rename Java packages without breaking Subversion history?

Hello everyone, The company I'm working for is starting up and they changed their name in the process. So we still use the package name com.oldname because we are afraid of breaking the file change history, or the ancestry links between versions, or whatever we could break (I don't think I use the right terms, but you get the concept). We use: Eclipse, TortoiseSVN, Subversion I found somewhere that I should do it in many steps to prevent incoherence between content of .svn folders and package names in java files: First use TortoiseSVN to rename the directory, updating the .svn directories. Then, manually rename the directory back to the original name. To finally use Eclipse to rename the packages (refactor) back to the new name, updating the java files. That seems good to me, but I need to know if the ancestry and history and everything else will still be coherent and working well. I don't have the keys to that server, that's why I don't hastily backup things and try one or two things. I would like to come up with a good reason not to do it, or a way of doing it which works. I've got an xml document that filled with people (parent node is "students", and there are 25+ "student" nodes). Each student looks like this: <student> <name></name> <surname></surname> <grades> <subject name=""> <small_grades></small_grades> <final_grade></final_grade> </subject> <subject name=""> <small_grades></small_grades> <final_grade></final_grade> </subject> </grades> <average></average> </student> Basically, what I want to do ('ve been asked to do) is to make a program that would get 3 students with the best average. While parsing the document and getting three best students isn't too difficult, the XML generation is a pain in the ass. Right now, what I'm doing is getting every single node from student and recreating it to a new file. Is there a way to copy the whole student node with everything that's in it? Regards, Paul

Jquery validations on form with no fields

I have a table (in a form) populated with radio buttons (with a button for each value in a collection). If the collection is empty, nothing shows up in the table (which is fine). (I'm using Struts2) My trouble comes when validating that the user has selected one of these radio buttons when the submit button is clicked. I'm using JQUERY validations, and it works quite well UNLESS there are no radio buttons to select (collection is empty). $('#startProcessForm').validate({ rules: { selectedProcess: { required: true } }, messages: { selectedProcess: "Please select a process to start." } }); If the list IS empty, then there are no fields (radio button or otherwise) named "selectedProcess". So my question is this: How can I make "selectedProcess" exist AND fail the 'required:true' validation if there's nothing in the collection? I was thinking I could create an empty tag of the same name (selectedProcess) if the collection is empty? ASP.NET: Custom MembershipProvider with a custom user table

I've recently started tinkering with ASP.NET MVC, but this question should apply to classic ASP.NET as well. For what it's worth, I don't know very much about forms authentication and membership providers either. I'm trying to write my own MembershipProvider which will be connected to my own custom user table in my database. My user table contains all of the basic user information such as usernames, passwords, password salts, e-mail addresses and so on, but also information such as first name, last name and country of residence. As far as I understand, the standard way of doing this in ASP.NET is to create a user table without the extra information and then a "profile" table with the extra information. However, this doesn't sound very good to me, because whenever I need to access that extra information I would have to make one extra database query to get it. I read in the book "Pro ASP.NET 3.5 in C# 2008" that having a separate table for the profiles is not a very good idea if you need to access the profile table a lot and have many different pages in your website. Now for the problem at hand... As I said, I'm writing my own custom MembershipProvider subclass and it's going pretty well so far, but now I've come to realize that the CreateUser doesn't allow me to create users in the way I'd like. The method only takes a fixed number of arguments and first name, last name and country of residence are not part of them. So how would I create an entry for the new user in my custom table without this information at hand in CreateUser of my MembershipProvider?

Problem using custom HttpHandler to process requests for both .aspx and non-extension pages in IIS7

I am trying to process both ".aspx" and non-extension page requests (i.e. both contact.aspx and /contact/) using a custom HttpHandler in IIS7. My handler works just fine in either one case or the other, but as soon as I try to process both cases, it only works for one. Please see Handlers snippet from my web.config below: If i keep only mapping to "*.aspx" then all .aspx requests are processed correctly, but obviously extensionless requests won't work: <add name="AllPages.ASPX" path="*.aspx" verb="*" type="Test.PageHandlerFactory, Test" preCondition="" /> If i change the mapping to "*" then all extensionless requests are processed correctly, but ".aspx" requests that should still be handled by this handler stop working. The error also says that the request is processed by the StaticFiles handler. But I made sure to add resourceType="File" to the StaticFileHandler in order to avoid this. According to MS this means the request is only for "physical files on disk". Am i misreading/interpreting the "on disk" part? My .aspx file isn't on disk, that's why i want to use the handler in the first place.

Titanium Appcelerator - After enabling cloud services I get UnicodeDecodeError when compiling for Android

I've got an app that has a UTF8 name (hebrew). I use the platform/android/AndroidManifest.xml file for this. I've managed to narrow it down to the Ti.cloudpush module. only when I enable this module I get the error. Why does jQuery.ajax() add a parameter to the url?

It all works well if the file name does not contain characters in that range. Type is set to xml so there should not be a confusion of types. Headers of the xml files are also set adequately. I can see from the console that jQuery throws an error, but I'm not sure as to where the problem really is. Probably a problem with file name formatting, but I did not find any resources on the web as to AJAX file name specifications. Any ideas? Thanks for you help!
