• Have OS X send wake on lan before printing to shared printer

  I have a MacBook that prints to a shared Windows 7 printer. Sometimes the Windows machine is asleep, and the Mac will just queue up its print requests. I recently created a script to send a wake-on-lan packet to a Windows 7 machine. This wakes up the Windows machine and printing starts. Great, but I think the system can be automated en Is it possible to have the MacBook run the wake-on-lan script everytime something is printed? Stated more generally, can I have the OS X print subsystem execute a script everytime something is printed?

• How do I check to see if an apt lock file is locked?

  I am writing a script to do some apt commands, but I am running into potential issues of the apt/dpkg databases being locked so my script bails. I want to check the lock files (i.e. /var/lib/dpkg/lock) before doing anything just like apt does when it runs it's command, but I can't figure out how apt is performing the lock. The lock file is always there, and apt-get is not doing a flock on the file. How else would it be checking to see if it is in use? From an strace I see that apt-get opens the file, but that is it. In my script, I can open the file while apt-get has it open as well.

  Is it possible to create a script/live distro that replaces some system32 files? To explain it a bit more in details: There is a company that has multiple computers (think in 100/1000's) and they all are missing the same system32 files since the company's software removed it. The systems are distributed all over the world and are managed by "normal" people who don't have any knowledge about computers. I want to create a usb stick that i can mail to all those people which contains a script that executes when you boot the usb. this script should replace the missing system32 files without any user input is this possible, and if so how could i manage this?

• Need advice concerning Feature Based Development when knowledge DB is involved

  We develop BackOffice application which is used to edit our knowledge DB. Now our main product's development team is shifting to the feature based development and we need to support several DB's with not identical data schemes. (DS changes slightly from DB to DB) The information from knowledge Db is extracted by the script and then is distributed to the clients. We also need to support merging these DB's. We now analyze pros and cons of different approaches. We discuss this one: One working DB (WDB) with one DB for each feature branch (FDB). The approved data is moved from WDB to FDB. So we need to support only one script for each branch. This script will extract data from corresponding FDB. Nevertheless we are to code the differences between FDBs and WDB manually. May be some automatic mapping tools exist? I also wish to know whether classic solutions to the alike problems already exist. Can anyone share the best practices for this case?

• Do all domains on the same shared hosting server have the same IP or ID

  Here's what I've got: siteA.com and siteB.com are hosted on hostgator. They're hosted on the same account of a shared hosting server (not VPS or dedicated). script.php is an external site that each of these 2 sites are accessing. I noticed that when siteA.com or siteB.com access the outside script.php, the script identifies them both as 1a.12.12ab.static.theplanet.com (apparently because hostgator uses theplanet.com servers). The fact that they're identified as the same value isn't surprising because after all they're hosted on the same account /home/user123/public_html. What I'm wondering about is how about other websites that are hosted on the same shared hosting server, but under other accounts. Basically other websites that are under another developer's control, but just happen to share the same hardware (hosting server). Do they also have the exact same identifier 1a.12.12ab.static.theplanet.com or that changes by account?

  How do you verify what the delimiter for a file is? I'm using eclipse to edit a script file on my windows system that I use to deploy on my unix server. The script specifies file names and I'd like to be certain that eclipse is saving the files with unix end of line delimiters. I've set my preferences to use the Unix Line Delimiter on new files using: Window > Preferences > General > Workspace > "New text file line delimiter" And have changed my script file's line delimiter using. File -> Convert Line Delimiters To Is there a way (preferably with the eclipse IDE) to check that there is no "\r"?

• Is there an elegant way to track multiple domains under separate accounts with google analytics?

  I have a situation where a content management system uses the same template for multiple websites with different domain names and I can't make a separate template for each. However, each website needs to be tracked with Google analytics. Would this be appropriate to track each domain like this by putting in some conditional code? And would this be robust enough not to break?   My environment: Centos 5.6, Asterisk with freepbx , skype i.e.sends message with parameter skype.sh skype_user message. Now i wanted to send skype notification so that my asterisk server notification are sent to skype rather than email (or to both skype and email). I know, there is voicemail.conf, voicemail_general and vm_email.inc, which has these body created. vm_email.inc emailbody=${VM_NAME},\n\nThere is a new voicemail in mailbox ${VM_MAILBOX} But i dont see where is something like "mail" command. What my thought to do is: instead of saying "mailcmd" pass system ( /path/to/script) and it would simply send message as rest is already configured. Any suggestion where i could run script rather than sending email Or Executing script on every incoming call, so that i could send as notification on every call over the Skype. (however, ultimate goal is to achieve miss call notification or voice mail notification over Skype.)

• Does IE have more strict Javascript parsing than Chrome?

  This is not meant to start a religio-technical browser war - I still prefer Chrome, at least for now, but: Because of a perhaps Chrome-related problem with my web page (see https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?can=2&start=0&num=100&q=&colspec=ID%20Pri%20M%20Iteration%20ReleaseBlock%20Cr%20Status%20Owner%20Summary%20OS%20Modified&groupby=&sort=&id=161473), I temporarily switched to IE (10) to see if it would also view the time value as invalid. However, I didn't even get to that point - IE stopped me in my tracks before I could get there; but I found that IE was right - it is more particular/precise in validating my code. For example, I got this from IE: SCRIPT5007: The value of the property '$' is null or undefined, not a Function object ...which was referring to this: <script src="/CommonLogin/Scripts/jquery-1.9.1.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> // body sometimes becomes white???? with jquery 1.6.1 $("body").css("background-color", "#405DA7"); < This line is highlighted as the culprit: $("body").css("background-color", "#405DA7"); jQuery is referenced right above it - so why did it consider "$" to be undefined, especially when Chrome had no problem with it...ah! I looked at that location (/CommonLogin/Scripts/) and saw that, sure enough, the version of jQuery there was actually jquery-1.6.2.min.js. I added the updated jQuery file (1.9.1) and it got past this. So now the question is: why does Chrome ignore this? Does it download the referenced version from its own CDN if it can't find it in the place you specify? IE did flag other errs after that, too; so I'm thinking perhaps IE is better at catching lurking problems than, at least, Chrome is. Haven't tested Firefox diesbzg yet.

• Windows 7/ 12.04 Dual Boot Mess

  I am certainly new to ubuntu (linux in general)... I added ubuntu 12.04 as a dual boot to a brand new desktop which had win 7 pre-installed. Both work well Then I tried to change the order of the boot menu to make Ubuntu first and Win7 second... I did this from the windows side (it seems that my setup is relying on windows bootloader, which I don't think I need to change) using the built-in startup manager (I think that's what windows calls it- it's in the control panel). I set Ubuntu as first (default if no user input). then... I ACCIDENTALLY ("hmmm...I wonder what this button does?") set the menu timeout to "0" Now, I cannot change the menu timeout (because I cannot get into windows) and without doing so, I cannot select windows as the OS I would like to boot(I cannot get into windows). Any Ideas?

  Hi, I have never set-up a chroot-jailed environment before and I am afraid I need some help to do it well. To explain shortly what this is all about: I have a webserver to which users send python scripts to process various files that are stored on the server (the system is for Research purpose). Everyday a cron job starts the execution of the uploaded scripts via a command of this kind: /usr/bin/python script_file.py All of this is really insecure and I would like to create a jail in which I would copy the necessary files (uploaded scripts, files to process, python binary and dependencies). I already looked at various utilities to create jails but none of them seemed up-to-date or were lacking solid documentation (ie. the links proposed in How can I run an untrusted python script) Could anyone guide me to a viable solution to my problem? like a working example of a script that creates a jail, put some files in it and executes a python script? • Should I use the factory design pattern for every class?

  I've been writing a website in PHP. As the code becomes more complex, I keep finding problems that can be solved using the factory design pattern. For example: I've a got a class Page which has subclasses HTMLPage, XMLPage, etc. Depending on some input I need to return an object of either one of these classes. I use the factory design pattern to do this. But as I encounter this problem in more classes, I keep having to change code which still initiates an object using its constructor. So now I'm wondering: is it a good idea to change all code so that it uses the factory design pattern? Or are there big drawbacks? I'm currently in a position to change this, so your answers would be really helpful.

• s3cmd run on command line not on cron

  Many have said that the problem is with environment but I still can't seem to solve this problem. BTW I am using Ubuntu 9.10 login as user, then sudo -s using this command: s3cmd put file s3://bucket worked! now here is the simple script intended for testing: #! /bin/bash env >/tmp/cronjob.log s3cmd put file s3://bucket issuing the command crontab -e * * * * * /opt/script 2>&1 | logger Then using tail to syslogs Dec 3 23:22:01 ubuntu CRON[10795]: (root) CMD (/opt/script 2&1 | logger) But by verifying it on s3Fox Organizer, the file is not uploaded. (I tried changing the #! /bin/sh (no effect), putting crons on /etc/crontab (no effect), setting HOME=/home/user (no effect) What are other options to try? Or other ways to debug this problem. • How can I make a persistent ssh tunnel?

  I have a Mac laptop and would like to have a persistent ssh tunnel so I can always log in from outside the local network. I'm looking for something that will work when the server can't be reached initially (e.g. if I don't have an Internet connection when I boot it), and will automatically start the tunnel when possible. I've tried putting an @reboot autossh line in my crontab, but I've found that sessions started with autossh disconnect every so often, and autossh quits if the first attempt fails. My current workaround is a small script and a cronjob: # crontab /home/blackl/bin/script &! # script #!/bin/sh while true; do ssh -Ngn -R $some_port:localhost:22 $server; sleep 30; done; Is there a better way to do this, or will I just have to be happy with this for now?

• powershell Read-host does not stop for input

  I thought this would be fairly basic, but i'm stuck. I have 3 lines of powershell script in which I want to collect a mailbox name from user input, then create names based on that mailbox name. (later the script proceeds to create the groups in AD, etc) my problem is that when I run all 3 of these lines by pasting them into powershell window, I don't get a change to enter the response to read-host. • Samba users not added untill they logon first? Edit: How do I add users to tdbsam without a password prompt?

  I add users to my server with the command useradd -m -p PASS_HASH -s /usr/sbin/nologin USERNAME Then I try to access their samba home share, but it never shows up until I login with the user: root:~$sudo login failtest Password:###### Added user failtest. Is there some way of added the user without logging in? Edit: The problem is that the user is added with the useradd command, but ubuntu seems to run an initalisation script when the user logs on for the first time. This script then adds that user to the tdbsam user database. Finding the initalisation script or the method it uses to add a user to the tdbsam database without requiring any user input (as smbpasswd -a USER prompts the user for a password). So all I need is a way to add a user+pass to the tdbsam database without prompting a user for a password (eg: samaba-add-user.sh USERNAME PASSWORD).

  When I had been using Windows 8 my touchpad had multiple gestures: 2 fingers direction top-bottom = vertical revers scrolling(if I scrolled top than page have scrolled bottom); 2 finger direction left-right = horizontal revers scrolling zoom in and zoom out like smartphones with 2 fingers 2 finger rotation = rotate image in image viewer (+ 90 deg or -90 deg) place a finger in the left edge and drag it to right = change windows application, in Ubuntu I want to change the active program to left like Ctrl+Shift+Tab place a finger in the right edge and drag it to left = open right menu and select the option moving finger on direction top-bottom, in Ubuntu I want to change the active program to right like Alt+Tab I succeed enable 2 finger vertical scrolling of System Setings, but I want that it do not work in revers sense. Do it exist a method to enable the rest of gestures and revers the vertical scrolling? edit: It's a Synaptics touchpad.

• Why is ext3 so slow to delete large files?

  I have a server, which makes an incremental backup of a system every night. Now on saturdays, there is a full backup. But after the full backup has finished, a script kicks in, that deletes the incrementals. Now, the script sometimes breaks, and it is because the incrementals are each about 10GB files, and sometimes takes too long for the script. Now could someone explain to me, or point me in the direction of a resource, that explains why ext3 is so slow to delete files, when compared to, lets say, NTFS? I know theses are 2 completely different file systems, but I'm really interested why is there such a big difference in deletion?

What should we do to restore company main site google rating? our solution and ideas that not working well: rel="canonical" to source website (we already have it before google change without results) meta "original-source" but not have rating influence (we already have it before google change without results) Edit:: maybe we should delete rel="canonical" from main website articles that refer to our other small websites (because this articles in main website not indexed in google)? • (Joomla 1.6) Template position descriptions don't refresh

  I want to change a description of a template position, so when I go to Admin-Extensions-Module Manager I see a different description of a module position in the position list when I edit a module. However, when I change (for instance) the template 'beez_20' and want to rename the name of the position 'debug', I change the description (TPL_BEEZ_20_POSITION_DEBUG) in the language file 'languages\en-GB\en-GB.tpl_beez_20.sys.ini' to something different, say 'Abracadabra'. However, the changes don't appear in the position list and I can find no reference whatsoever of how or when the ini files are read or maybe cached. Does anyone has a clue?

• Deploying InfoPath forms &ndash; idiosyncrasies

  Well, I have written a sophisticated PowerShell script to expedite the deployment of InfoPath forms - .XSN file.  Along the way by way of trial and error (mostly error and error), I discovered a few little things. Here they are. •    Regardless of how the install command is run – PowerShell or the GUI in Central Admin – SharePoint enwraps the XSN inside a solution – WSP, then installs and deploys the solution. •    The solution is named by concatenating “form-“ with the first 16 characters (or less if the file name is shorter than 16) of the file name and the required WSP at the end. So if the form name was MyInfopathForm.xsn the solution name will be form-MyInfopathForm.wsp, but for WithdrawalOfRequestsForRefund.xsn it will be named form-WithdrawalOfRequ.wsp •    It only gets worse! Had there already been a solution file with the same name, Microsoft appends a three digit number to the name, like MyInfopathForm-123.wsp. Remember a digit is a finger, I suspect a middle finger, so when you deploy the same form – many versions of it, or as it was in my case – testing a script time and again, you’ll end up with many such digit (middle finger) appended solutions, all un-deployed except the last one. This is not a bug. It’s a feature!   Well, there are ways around it. When by hand, remove the solution from the solution store before deploying the form again. In the script I do the same thing. And finally - an important caveat; Make sure that all your form names are unique in the first 16 characters. If you also have a form with the name forWithdrawalOfRequestForRelief.xsn, you’re in trouble! That’s all folks!

Edit #1 : I just noticed that when I click "Pause" the game freezes and it takes me to the MainMenu.That's because I added the GUIButton which takes you to the main menu.I think the whole script structure is wrong.I also forgot to mention that Im new in scripting/unity.
