• Downloading HTTP URLs asynchronously in C++

  What's a good way to download HTTP URLs (e.g. such as http://0.0.0.0/foo.htm ) in C++ on Linux ? I strongly prefer something asynchronous. My program will have an event loop that repeatedly initiates multiple (very small) downloads and acts on them when they finish (either by polling or being notified somehow). I would rather not have to spawn multiple threads/processes to accomplish this. That shouldn't be necessary. Should I look into libraries like libcurl? I suppose I could implement it manually with non-blocking TCP sockets and select() calls, but that would likely be less convenient.

• [PHP] - Lowering script memory usage in a "big" file creation

  Hi there people, it looks like I'm facing a typical memory outage problem when using a PHP script. The script, originally developed by another person, serves as an XML sitemap creator, and on large websites uses quite a lot of memory. I thought that the problem was related due to an algorithm holding data in memory until the job was done, but digging into the code I have discovered that the script works in this way: open file in output (will contain XML sitemap entries) in the loop: ---- for each entry to be added in sitemap, do fwrite close file end Although there are no huge arrays or variables being kept in memory, this technique uses a lot of memory. I thought that maybe PHP was buffering under the hood the fwrites and "flushing" data at the end of the script, so I have modified the code to close and open the file every Nth record, but the memory usage is still the same.... I'm debugging the script on my computer and watching memory usage: while script execution runs, memory allocation grows. Is there a particular technique to instruct PHP to free unsed memory, to force flushing buffers if any? Thanks

Now I want to loop through first each row, and then each cell, printing out the contents of each cell. • Ubuntu quickly (python/gtk) - how to monitor stdin?

  I'm starting to work with Ubuntu's "quickly" framework, which is python/gtk based. I want to write a gui wrapper for a textmode C state-machine that uses stdin/stdout. I'm new to gtk. I can see that the python print command will write to the terminal window, so I assume I could redirect that to my C program's stdin. But how can I get my quickly program to monitor stdin (i.e. watch for the C program's stdout responses)? I suppose I need some sort of polling loop, but I don't know if/where that is supported within the "quickly" framework. Or is redirection not the way to go - should I be looking at something like gobject.spawn_async?

  Hello, I have a matrix in a txt file and I want to load the matrix based on my input of number of rows and columns For example, I have a 5 by 5 matrix in the file. I want to extract a 3 by 3 matrix, how can I do that ?   I wrote a signal handler to catch FPE errors. I need to continue execution even if this happens. I receive a ucontext_t as parameter, I can change the bad operand from 0 to another value but the FPU context is still bad and I run into an infinite loop ? Does someone already manupulate the ucontext_t structure on Linux ? I finally found a way to handle these situations by clearing the status flag of ucontext_t like this: ... const long int cFPUStatusFlag = 0x3F; aContext->uc_mcontext.fpregs->sw &= ~cFPUStatusFlag; ... 0x3F is negated to put 0 in the 6 bits of the status register of the FPU (x87). Doing this implies to check for FPE exceptions after calculation.

• network error 414 when using google translate with wordpress

  I am using a jQuery and google translate on a wordpress site. It works well unless I call a div that is repeated in the loop like in an archives page. On these pages I get a network error 414 that the request URI is too large. The archives page I have are short and the php is only generating about 5 paragraphs for each category archive. Does anyone know how I can correct this error? Is this a serverfault question?

  I realize that this is probably a duplicate, but I've been searching for an hour and I can't to get the syntax right. I have a sheet with several tables. There is at least one empty column and one empty row between one table to the other. I know the start row and start column of each table, and I know that each table has 3 columns. I don't know how many rows it has. I want to write a sub that receives: table start row table start column and copies the table into another sheet (let's say that the destination is sheet2 starting at A1). I know I can do it with a loop, but I suspect there is a better syntax right? (The main issue here is that I need to find the number of rows each table has) Thanks. Li

However I always end up getting just the last change and non of the earlier ones. So it always ends up being something like 0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,403 rather then 14,19,0,24,603,249,0,0,0,403 How can I do this so it doesn't overwrite it? Thanks

It seems however that the Thread is not being Terminated/Aborted when I close the application (click "x" button on titlebar ;)). Is that because the main Thread routine is while(true) {...} ? What is the solution here? I was looking for some "interruption" flag for the Thread as the condition for "while" loop, but didn't found any ...

  I'm doing something in Java that requires input to be matched against the pattern ^[1-5]$. I should have a while loop looping through each line of input, checking it against the pattern, and outputting an error message if it does not. Sudo code: while (regex_match(/^[^1-5]$/,inputLine)) { print ("Please enter a number between 1 and 5! "); getNextInputLine(); } I can use java.util.Scanner.hasMatch("^[^1-5]$"), but that will only match a single token, not the entire line. Any idea on how to make hasMatch match against the entire line? (Setting the delimiter to "\n" or "\0" doesn't work.)

  So I essentially need to do this: String text = "line1\n"; text += "line2\n"; text += "line3\n"; useString( text ); There is more involved, but that's the basic idea. Is there anything out there that might let me do something more along the lines of this though? DesiredStringThinger text = new DesiredStringThinger(); text.append( "line1" ); text.append( "line2" ); text.append( "line3" ); useString( text.toString() ); Obviously, it does not need to work exactly like that, but I think I get the basic point across. There is always the option of writing a loop which processes the text myself, but it would be nice if there is a standard Java class out there that already does something like this rather than me needing to carry a class around between applications just so I can do something so trivial. • Subtracting two lists in Python

  In Python, How can one subtract two non-unique, unordered lists? Say we have a = [0,1,2,1,0] and b = [0, 1, 1] I'd like to do something like c = a - b and have c be [2, 0] or [0, 2] order doesn't matter to me. This should throw an exception if a does not contain all elements in b. Note this is different from sets! I'm not interested in finding the difference of the sets of elements in a and b, I'm interested in the difference between the actual collections of elements in a and b. I can probably work this out with a for loop, looking up the first element of b in a and then removing the element from b and from a, etc. But this doesn't appeal to me, I'd like to do this with list comprehension in a nice and easy way. Is this possible?

  I need to craft a filter for an object that checks date ranges. Right now I'm performing a very inefficient loop which checks all the objects. I would like to simplify this to a database call. The logic is you have a start and an end date objects. I need to check if the start OR the end is within the range of an appointment. if (start >= appointment.start && start < appointment.end) || (end > appointment.start && end <= appointment.end) I could do this in SQL, but I'm not as familiar with the Django model structure for more complex queries.

• Better method for flipping multidimensional array?

  I've retrieved some data from the database, which is in the following structure: [0] [item_id] = 197 [dice_chat_css] = "foo" [dice_image] = "bar.png" [1] [item_id] = 128 [dice_chat_css] = "foo" [dice_image] = "bar.png" The most convenient and computationally inexpensive way for me to pass this data to the rest of my (PHP) application is with item_id as the index, because it saves having to loop over the array to look up values. If this was a flat array, I could accomplish this trivially with array_flip, but since it isn't, it's my pick of using either the multidimensional array_flip listed in the comments on PHP.net, or roll my own logic: for ($i = 0; $i < sizeOf($r); $i++){ $s[$r[$i]['item_id']]['dice_image'] = $r[$i]['dice_image']; $s[$r[$i]['item_id']]['dice_chat_css'] = $r[$i]['dice_chat_css']; } I know it's simple, but it feels like I'm reinventing the wheel here. Is there an accepted, more optimized method available or am I being weird about this?
