• Desktop in Kubuntu lacks bars and quite everything after trying to apply Plymouth fix for proprietary drivers

  I'm running Kubuntu 13.10, my computer's graphics card is Nvidia GT 520. I tried to fix that Plymouth's problem with proprietary graphics driver using an old script I found on the internet (it was coded for Natty, now that I think about it I shouldn't have done it). I ran that script and rebooted my computer. First incorrect behaviour I noticed was that Plymouth only displayed its text splash only on 1/4th of the screen, though when I pressed Esc key the logs were displaying correctly. Main problem appeared when I logged in. All my desktop's windows lack menu bar, can't be closed with Alt-F4, and they don't appear on the task bar. I tried fixing it by reinstalling GRUB a few times, purging /etc/grub.d and /boot/grub, but only the text splash issue was fixed. How can I fix that?

• Designing a user-defined list to be stored in a relational database - Should I include user index?

  By index, I mean, as the user creates the list, each item receives an integer index for its place in that particular list. Since there will be a table of ListItems, I'd prefer to avoid using the name "Index" for the field. Then I was thinking - should I even include the list index in the database? I figured I would because the list would be created in the same fashion every time, then. Or I could order the list for the user based on its actual primary key, since the list items are created in succession anyway... What should I do?

• What is the correct pattern to use in this case?

  I'm sure this scenario has arisen before, and I want to know what experience has taught to be the best solution. I have a number of classes that are all of a kind. Say all the objects are "Content". They may be "Article", or "Book" for example. The reason I want the "Content" abstraction is because I want to define a number of behaviours for all "Content" objects and not have to build a new DB Table and 10 classes of essentially the same code for each type of "Content". For example, to attach a "Tag" or a "Premise" to a content object would be much nicer if, say, I just had two columns one for ContentID and one for TagID. A solution I've played around with is to have a Content table with a unique ID, and then to have foreign key references on all the other tables (Book, Article, etc). This has actually proven quite solid, but I'm just not sure about it. Do you know how to call this described pattern?

• No Mouse Pointer - ubuntu 13.10

  just installed 13.10 on my HP Envy M6 laptop and have no mouse pointer. My USB mouse does not work and neither does the track pad. When I booted from a USB key everything worked OK but once installed it seems to have broken the mouse. Unlike other posts, there is no flicker, it simply doesn't work at all. My laptop is an i5 with 6gb and dual Intel and AMD radeon graphics. Any help would be gratefully received as I really can't stand Windows 8 any longer. Thanks.

  Some times when I am trying out stuff on my terminal, I get some blockade or some error to resolve which I have to copy the error or last message then open my browser and then Google the query. Is it possible for me that I select the message via mouse and when I right click I get a Google it option as I get when I select some text on a browser? PS : I am not asking how to do Google search via terminal or how to browse web via terminal.These were the results I got when I goggled my question. what I want is something more general. Whenever I select a piece of text I should get a "Google me" option with the right click of my mouse(or maybe with pressing of a key or something). I would prefer that the query takes place in a browser and not in a terminal.

However, I am well-versed with HTML5/CSS3 though things change and new things are released and I keep up with as much as I can. But this job required me to hand-code Javascript, know Jquery and Ajax. I have been exposed to this a bit but I am not sure if I can hand-code Javascript. • Is there a hotkey to toggle between the two panes only in Nautilus (with Extra Pane/F3 mode)?

  I am running Nautilus with the Extra Pane feature enabled. But I am missing a keyboard shortcut to switch between the left and right pane. Is there a shortcut key for toggling just between the left and right file pane? Something that works like tab in Total Commander/Midnight Commander? Tab and Shift-Tab are not what I'm looking for. They cycle through several other GUI elements in addition to the two panes. I'm on Ubuntu 10.04 if that matters.

• Does GPG allow encryption of multiple files using a wild card like *filename*? [on hold]

  I am trying to automate the encryption of files on a windows server using a .bat file I created. As long as the filename is hardcoded in the .bat file this works. I want to encrypt numerous files using this .bat file but files are not encrypted when I use wildcards in the filename like filename.txt. I've been trying various version of the following command at the DOS prompt to no avail. All attempts have returned syntax for usage. C:\gpg -v --batch -- yes --always-trust -e -r <encryption-key> *part-of-the-file-name* usage: gpg [options] --encrypt [filename] I received the same usage message with this command: C:\gpg -v --batch -- yes --always-trust -e -r --encrypt part-of-the-file-name I tried without the -v and some of the other options and I still received the same message. I have spent hours today searching the internet for an answer and I can't find one anywhere? Please help.

• WCF listenBacklog and maxConnections can't be set higher than 10. Why not?

  My service works great under low load. But under high load I start to get connection errors. I know about other settings but I am trying to change the listenBacklog parameter in particular for my TCP Buffered binding. If I set listenBacklog="10" I am able to telnet into the port where my WCF service is running. If I change listenBacklog to anything higher than 10 it will not let me telnet into my service when it is running. No errors seem to be thrown. What can I do? I get the same problem when I change my maxConnections away from 10. All other properties of the binding I can set higher without a problem.   I am trying to get to grips with MS Dynamics CRM 2011. I have have the beta installed on a VM and things look pretty good - some great new features etc. However I am getting an exception when trying to connect to the new XRMServices (updated 2011 WCF web services) Exception: System.ServiceModel.ServiceActivationException: The service '/organame/XRMServices/2011/Organization.svc' cannot be activated due to an exception during compilation. The exception message is: 'System.ServiceModel.Description.UseRequestHeadersForMetadataAddressBehavior'. This collection only supports one instance of each type. Parameter name: item. ---> System.ArgumentException: The value could not be added to the collection, as the collection already contains an item of the same type: 'System.ServiceModel.Description.UseRequestHeadersForMetadataAddressBehavior'. This collection only supports one instance of each type. Parameter name: item The only reference to this exception I gave found suggests that it is caused by multiple bindings configured in IIS, which in my case I did have, but the problem persists even after removing them. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  Hello, i have a class 'MyTextBox' that derives from the default TextBox in Silverlight. This class currently contains no additional code. I set up a binding in xaml to bind the Text-Property of MyTextbox to another Textbox to reflect the input made in the Textbox. The effect is that MyTextBox doesn´t update and not display the text of the other Textbox. Additional i made an equal binding for a normal Textbox. And this works.
