  • Which PHP framework is closest to Ruby on Rails? CakePHP? CodeIgniter?

    I'm going to be switching back and forth between Ruby on Rails projects and some as-of-yet undecided PHP MVC framework projects. Which of the PHP MVC frameworks out there (CakePHP, CodeIgniter?, others?) is most similar to Ruby on Rails in that the most conventions, locations, workflows, etc are preserved? I'm looking for the similarity in the way things are done such as directory structures, conventions, etc, not a pros vs cons in speed, extra features, etc.

However the Apache does not seems to cache any content.   • Installing Wordpress - constant PHP/MySQL extension appears missing

    I've got Win2003 w/IIS6, PHP 5 and MySQL installed. I can confirm PHP is installed correctly because I have a testMe.php that runs properly. When I run the Wordpress setup, I get informed that Your PHP installation appears to be missing the MySQL extension which is required by WordPress. But in my PHP.ini in the DYNAMIC EXTENSIONS section I have extension=php_mysql.dll extension=php_mysqli.dll I verified that mysql.dll and libmysql.dll are both in my PHP directory. I copied my libmysql.dll to the C:\Windows\System32 directory. When I try to run the initial setup for WordPress, I get this answer. I've Googled setting this up, and everything comes down to the above. I'm missing something, but none of the instructions that I've found online seem to cover whatever that is.

    , Hello, everyone How can I change editing key-binding in Gnome on Ubuntu, and make it work like Emacs? Eg. When I'm chat with my friend, and I want to use Ctrl-a Ctrl-k to move my cursor go to the left of current line, and then cut current line, as OSX or Emacs. By default in Gnome Ubuntu, Ctrl-a is for "select all" and ctrl-k for nothing. Where does this key binding define? And how can I change this? I tried gnome-keybinding-properties and gsettings, find nothing. Maybe I have to compile something?

  • GtkView GtkSpell and myspell backend

    Hi I have an IM client pidgin. It is launched under locale ru_RU.UTF-8 Then when I type messages in GtkView widget it highlights the misspelled words. However it uses a GtkSpell which uses enchant, which uses myspell backend (I provided it with symlink to openoffice dictionaries folder /usr/share/enchant/myspell -- /usr/share/myspell/dict). Now the problem is that whichever language I use - it still uses ru_RU language to select the dictionary, so all english text is being underlined as a misspelled text. When I switch locale to en_US and then launch pidgin under it - then all russian text becomes misspelled. I don't like this behaviour as I use pidgin to chat in both languages. Is there a way to somehow setup enchant/myspell so that it searches in both dictionaries en_US and ru_RU independent of the locale I launched pidgin (GtkView) in ? I have Debian lenny/5.0.1 distro. enchant version 1.5.0. /usr/share/enchant/enchant.ordering looks like this: *:myspell meaning that for all languages backend is myspell myspell dictionary.lst file looks like this: DICT en GB en_GB DICT en US en_US THES en US th_en_US_v2 THES en GB th_en_US_v2 THES ru RU th_ru_RU_v2 DICT ru RU ru_RU DICT uk UA uk DICT ru RU en_US

  • Ubuntu 10.10: 2nd instance of Firefox does not obey GTK2 customizations

    Hi On Ubuntu 10.10 I started a 2nd instance of Firefox using the command: $ firefox -ProfileManager -no-remote & Created a new profile and everything works smoothly except for the fact that this instance of FF does not obey by GTK2 customizations that I have placed in ~/.gtkrc-2.0 Moreover, only SOME of the customizations are not obeyed. For example, the vertical scrollbars are supposed to be on the left, but they are on the right. The scrollbar arrows are together (Mac-like) as specified, so is the scrollbar width. The first instance obeys all customizations with scrollbars on the left. Any ideas?

  • PHP 5.4.7 and Apache 2.2 Trouble under Windows XP

    I'm trying to setup a test enviroment on a virtual machine running Windows XP Home (totally updated), with Apache 2.2 and PHP 5.4.7. I can load the PHP 5 module inside httpd.conf and if I don't rename php.ini-DEVELOPMENT (or -PRODUCTION) file to php.ini, the engine works fine. This basic configuration doesn't have MySQL module loaded, so I have to rename rename the .ini-DEVELOPMENT into .ini and edit as follows: ; Directory in which the loadable extensions (modules) reside. ; http://php.net/extension-dir ; extension_dir = "./" ; On windows: extension_dir = "C:/php/ext/" ... extension=php_mysql.dll extension=php_mysqli.dll Restart Apache with no problems and... all I can get is a blank page. Where can I see some error or do you know where is the trouble? Tell me if I need to post something else to give you more details.

  • gtk2/mate apps are choppy on debian testing [migrated]

    I have recently upgraded to a core-i7 system and now all the apps from mate (GTK2 based) are very slow. Basically when I switch to a workspace that has a couple mate-terminals open, they are redrawn as if these were sent over the network. GTK3 apps and firefox work properly and are refreshed instantly. I'm running Debian testing. I have tried to reinstall xorg and related packages and everything seems to work fine except for this. Here is my xorg.log. Any hints?

    I have written a Linux GUI application in Python that needs to do some cleanup tasks before being terminated when the user logs out. Unfortunately it seems, that on logout, all applications are killed. I tried both to handle POSIX signals and DBUS notifications, but nothing worked. Any idea what I could have made wrong? On application startup I register some termination handlers: # create graceful shutdown mechanisms signal.signal(signal.SIGTERM, self.on_signal_term) self.bus = dbus.SessionBus() self.bus.call_on_disconnection(self.on_session_disconnect) When the user logs out, neither self.on_signal_term nor self.on_session_disconnect are called.     I was trying to get PJAX working with my PHP site, this is the code I am using for it: <script src="js/jquery.js"></script> <script src="js/jquery.pjax.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(function(){ // pjax $('ul a').pjax('section') }) </script> I am just using the code they used on the PJAX demo page, but replacing the container they used (#main) with the one for my site, which was the section tag. There are no errors on the console or on the page, but it doesn't work either! Before I was using $(function() { $('ul a').pjax('section') }); and $('document').ready(function(){ $('ul a').pjax('section') }); But when I don't use either of those and just use $('ul a').pjax('section') I see this error in the console: Uncaught no pjax container for section in jquery.pjax.js (line: 353) Could I get some help with this?   • How to pass an input value from a small form into a big form? (PHP, Javascript, URLs)

    I have a Wordpress website that needs to display a 3rd party newsletter signup form. This sign-up form has lots of fields and takes up its own full page. I want to display a simple "enter email address, hit submit" form at the top of every page. When the user hits submit, it should take them to the full form, where their email address is already pre-populated in the appropriate field. What's a good way to pass the input value from the short form to the long form? I'm inclined to use the URL somehow, but I've never approached it before. (My skills: expert XHTML/CSS. competent with WP theme hacking. comfortable enough with PHP and Javascript to move things around, but not enough to write them from scratch.) Thanks!

  • Is there a way to make PHP progressively output as the script executes?

    So I'm writing a disposable script for my own personal single use and I want to be able see how the process is going. Basically I'm processing a couple of thousand media releases and sending them to our new CMS. So I don't hammer the CMS, I'm making the script sleep for a couple of seconds after every 5 requests. I would like - as the script is executing - to be able to see my echos telling me the script is going to sleep or that the last transaction with the webservice was successful.   • Large PHP enable web form - around 75 field - how best to send email with all fields?

    Have created simple Ajax enabled contact forms before that have around 12 fields - worked fine.... Now working on a PHP enabled web page for job applications that has around 100 fields. The ajax technique I was using was to send request via querystrings (&val1=test;&val2=test2 and etc ...) That is not going to scale very well with larger form with 100+ fields.   • How can I scrape the current webpage with php/javascript?

    I have made the following webpage for generating interactive todo lists: http://robert-kent.com/todo/todo.php Basically, the user pastes a numbered todo list and each task is placed into it's own div with a unique id. Users can add notes to the tasks (done with javascript) and can click the green check when the task is done to hide it. I'd like to add an Export button which would generate a report of which tasks were completed and which were not, along with the user-entered notes. After a bit of searching I understand that what I want to do is scrape the page, but I haven't the faintest idea of the best way to do it. Many of the articles and tutorials I have found with Google involve scraping other sites and don't really explain how I could iterate over each div on the page.     Hi, I have a simple PHP-based XSLT trasform code that looks like that: $xsl = new XSLTProcessor(); $xsl->registerPHPFunctions(); $xsl->setParameter("","searchterms", $searchterms); $xsl->importStylesheet($xslDoc); echo $xsl->transformToXML($doc); The code passes the variable $searchterms, which contains a string, as a parameter to the XSLT style sheet which in turns uses it as a text: <title>search feed for <xsl:value-of select="$searchterms"/></title> This works fine until you try to pass a string with mixes in it, say: $searchterms = '"some"'." text's quotes are mixed." In that point the XSLT processor screams: Cannot create XPath expression (string contains both quote and double-quotes) What is the correct way to safely pass arbitrary strings as input to XSLT? Note that these strings will be used as a text value in the resulting XML and not as an XPATH paramater. Thanks, Boaz

However, what is the complement function to convert the hexadecimal representation of the data back to binary data? For example: $foo = "hello"; $foo = bin2hex($foo); echo $foo; // Displays 68656c6c6f How do I turn it back to hello? $foo = "68656c6c6f"; // Now what? There is no hex2bin() function.

    hello, i have an iphone 3g and can successfully send text messages using the PHP mail() function. My issue is that for each message i receive, the "telephone number" associated with the incoming text message changes each time. If possible, I would like to somehow make this number constant so that I can take advantage of iphone's ability to aggregate all text messages from the same telephone number -Otherwise my iphone would be cluttered with messages.
