• Dynamic creation of a pointer function in c++

  I was working on my advanced calculus homework today and we're doing some iteration methods along the lines of newton's method to find solutions to things like x^2=2. It got me thinking that I could write a function that would take two function pointers, one to the function itself and one to the derivative and automate the process. This wouldn't be too challenging, then I started thinking could I have the user input a function and parse that input (yes I can do that). But can I then dynamically create a pointer to a one-variable function in c++. For instance if x^2+x, can I make a function double function(double x){ return x*x+x;} during run-time. Is this remotely feasible, or is it along the lines of self-modifying code?

• How do I send the ckeditor config using jQuery service?

  My service is built and it is sending the config variable to my js file: [['SpellChecker','-','Undo','Redo','-','Bold','Italic','Underline','NumberedList','BulletedList']] The above is assigned to my javascript like so: var config = "<?= stripslashes($_REQUEST['config']) ?>"; I can alert out the config just fine: console.log(config) does send back the correct data... However, I get an error thrown in my console!: v is undefined [Break On This Error] var u=n.toolbox.toolbars,v=n.config.to...aximize','ShowBlocks','-','About']]; If I comment out the config: //CKEDITOR.config.toolbar = config; everything works fine but the configuration doesn't exist, of course...

• Render an asynchronous report, wider than the screen, without extra scrollbars

  I have an asynchronous local SSRS 2005 report that is of variable height and width, but routinely is bigger than the screen. I want to render it full size so that some of the report renders off screen and the only scrollbars the user sees are the ones on the browser window. What is the best way to accomplish this? The only method that I've found that even comes remotely close to what I want is to set static width/height values that are much larger than the report will ever be. But, this is undesirable since it leaves so much extra whitespace in the browser window. Has anyone had success rendering asynchronous reports without the extra scrollbars?

• Capturing system command output as a string

  Perl and PHP do this with backticks. For example: $output = `ls`; This code returns a directory listing into the variable $output. A similar function, system("ls"), returns the operating system return code for the given command. I'm talking about a variant that returns whatever the command prints to stdout. (There are better ways to get the list of files in a directory; the example code is an example of this concept.) How do other languages do this? Is there a canonical name for this function? (I'm going with "backtick"; though maybe I could coin "syslurp".)

• How to set the component size with GridLayout? Is there a better way?

  Hello guys, I am working on a larger GUI with Java and I am becoming angry on Layout Managers. I have a "Settings-Panel" with a variable number of JComponents in it (Labels, Buttons, JSpinners, JSliders,...). I just want the following: JLabel <- JComponent JLabel <- JComponent JLabel <- JComponent ... My Panel has a size of 500px, so that there is enough space for a lot of components. Unfortunatly the GridLayout always stretches the size of the Components to the whole Panel, even if I set a MaximumSize for every component. It looks stupid if there are only two buttons each with a height of 250px. I tried flow Layout, but i cannot figure out a way to make new lines properly. I tried BoxLayout.Y_AXIS, but the Components are always centered, and Label and Component are not in the same line. Does anybody know a good and short way with LayoutManagers to handle this properly?

• Android XML-RPC Serialization Issue

  I am attempting to use Android XML-RPC and for some calls I get the following exception: W/System.err( 837): java.io.IOException: Cannot serialize java.lang.Object@43759748 It looks like it is having troubles serializing the returned data, but I cannot find much documentation on how to actually use Android XML-RPC. The way I am using Android XML-RPC is as follows: Object response = (Object)client.call("sales_order.list", new Object()); This one is pretty odd. I have tried setting this call up in a few different ways (using HashMaps, not passing second variable, etc) and the response I get is that sales_order.list is not a valid Method. I have been able to login to the service using the following code: this.sessionId = (String)client.call("login", this.apiUserName, this.apiPassword); Does anyone have any ideas or a good resource on how to use Android XML-RPC? • Ruby on Rails - Calendar Display

  We want to create a calendar view in a room scheduling application. The outcome we want is to have hours open (variable depending on day) across the top of the grid and the names of the rooms down the left side of the grid. The body would be populated with bookings for that day. The visual we're seeking is similar to the "Weekly Builder" plugin for Rails (http://dmix.ca/2009/06/weeklybuilder-a-weekly-calendar-plugin-for-rails/). We've tried using CSS to create variably-sized images, but this isn't working out. Are there any plugins available or other ways anyone can think of to accomplish this kind of visual? Thanks

• Return result of block passed to #scan during regex

  I've searched and not been able to find the right way of doing what I'm trying to. I read a file line by line and want to create a new object from a regex on each line. I'm not using an XML parser because the data is not well formed and listed below is all I need to get from each line. I can't seem to get scan to return the result of the block. It just returns the original string. I have temporarily gotten around it by creating this temp variable, but I'm sure there is a better way. enum = File.foreach(filename) enum.map do |line| temp = nil line.scan(/<cab id="(\w+)" updates="(\d+)"/) { |a,b| temp = Cab.new(a,b) } temp end Thanks for any help.

• [Java6] Same source code, Eclipse build success but Maven (javac) fails

  Keep getting this error when compiling using Maven: type parameters of <X>X cannot be determined; no unique maximal instance exists for type variable X with upper bounds int,java.lang.Object Generics type interference cannot be applied to primitive types. But I thought since Java5, boxing/unboxing mechanism works seamlessly between primitive types and wrapper classes. In any case, the strange thing is Eclipse doesn't report any errors and happily compiles. I'm using JDK1.6.0_12. What could possibly be the problem here?

• Multiple connections to a MySQL database in a single PHP script.

  There are multiple times in one page where I need to connect and subsequently query a MySQL database, yet my code won't let me. I think it might be something to do with how my files are nested but it makes no sense. I am opening the SQL connection in the header file.   I am trying to test my views with RSpec. The particular view that is causing me troubles changes its appearance depending on a url parameter: link_to "sort>name", model_path(:sort_by => 'name') which results in http://mydomain/model?sort_by=name My view then uses this parameter like that: <% if params[:sort_by] == 'name' %> <div>Sorted by Name</div> <% end %> The RSpec looks like this: it "should tell the user the attribute for sorting order" do #Problem: assign params[:sort_for] = 'name' render "/groups/index.html.erb" response.should have_tag("div", "Sorted by Name") end I would like to test my view (without controller) in RSpec but I can't get this parameter into my params variable. I tried assign in all different flavours: assign[:params] = {:sort_by => 'name'} assign[:params][:sort_by] = 'name' ... no success so far. Every idea is appreciated.

• Getting the height of a div after setting it to auto in IE

  Hi, I'm writing some JavaScript that changes the size of some content. To do this I need to know the size of a div within my content. If I have the following html: <div id="wrapper"> ... other stuff ... <div id="inner" style="height:400px">Some text in here</div> ... other stuff ... </div> And the following JavaScript: $('#inner').height('auto'); var height = $("#wrapper").height(); In FireFox and Chrome the height variable increases as the inner div expands to fit all the text. In IE this stays the same. I guess it doesn't redraw the div straight away. Anybody know how to get the new correct height in IE? Cheers

  How to get a concurrent method? In my case, the library would be called from a program to get a value to each argument str --in method Get()--. When it's used Get() then it assigns a variable from type bytes.Buffer which it will have the value to return. The returned values --when it been concurrently called-- will be stored into a database or a file and it doesn't matter that its output been of FIFO way (from method). type test struct { foo uint8 bar uint8 } func NewTest(arg1 string) (*test, os.Error) {...} func (self *test) Get(str string) ([]byte, os.Error) { var format bytes.Buffer ... } I think that all code inner of method Get() should be put inner of go func() {...}(), and then to use a channel.   I'm making my own forums and I don't want any BB code on it, but instead my own, so i've gotten [b][u][img] working etc. But i'm having problems with [quote=1][/quote] where the number is the user id... E.G lets say I quote someone So once I submit my post: (The variable $post would be:) '[quote=1] Quoted post :P[/quote]' How would I then get the number out the string? (But not the wrong number -not a number in the quoted post) (So I could then use str_replace() to replace with a table which makes it looked quoted) ?? :)

• git, SSH_ASKPASS on windows

  I am writing a graphical git frontend for Linux and Windows (MSEgit) based on MSEide+MSEgui. MSEgit has an internal console window which communicates with git by pipes. On Linux it uses a PTY so SSH asks for key unlocking passwords on the PTY. On Windows I wrote a small password entry application and set the SSH_ASKPASS environment variable accordingly. SSH calls the password application if git is started with CreateProcess() dwCreationFlags DETACHED_PROCESS set but the password entry window will not be focused, its taskbar icon flashes instead. SSH does not run the password application if FreeConsole() is called to be sure that there is no attached console to MSEgit and git is started without DETACHED_PROCESS but CREATE_NO_WINDOW instead. I assume a Windows equivalent of POSIX setsid() should be called. How can I force SSH to use SSH_ASKPASS without the DETACHED_PROCESS flag? If this is not possible, how can I ensure that the password entry window is focused?

  Hello, I have a category on NSDate, and I want to implement some functions to manipulate the date, like : NSDate *thedate = [NSDate date]; [thedate setToMidnight]; so I have a function in NSDate like : -(void)setToMidnight { some code with calendars and comps self = theNewDate; } This works inside the function, but outside this member function, thedate has not changed. I understand this malfunction because I've been told that self is just a local variable created inside the member function. So, how can I make this work ? Of course, I could have written : thedate = [thedate dateAsMidnightDate] or thedate = [NSDate dateAtMidnightFromDate:thedate] but I feel it has more sense inside the instance class, as I don't want to change the date but just adjust some values of the previously created one. Can you help me to achieve this ?

• How can I change ruby log level in unit tests based on context

  I'm new to ruby so forgive me if this is simple or I get some terminology wrong. I've got a bunch of unit tests (actually they're integration tests for another project, but they use ruby test/unit) and they all include from a module that sets up an instance variable for the log object. When I run the individual tests I'd like log.level to be debug, but when I run a suite I'd like log.level to be error. Is it possible to do this with the approach I'm taking, or does the code need to be restructured? Here's a small example of what I have so far. • How do I Reload Ajax Call Parameters without Reloading the webpage

  I'm working with Extjs 2.2.1 with Alfresco 3.2 enterprise. I would like to update the ticket that handles authentication to the alfresco server on components that have been loaded during login. This ticket expires after a set time and this is why I will need to update the ticket. Options that do not seem viable for me(but please let me know if I'm wrong): Reload the components to reload the call parameters - I can't do this because it resets whatever the user was previously working on (ie. Tree panel gets reloaded, grid filters reset, etc). The actual webpage never reloads as everything uses ajax calls to update things on the page. Create a global variable that stores the ticket and attach it as a call parameter with any ajax calls - Any components that were loaded during login will still use the original ticket to make calls to the server.

  I'm working on Ruby on rails 2.3.4 and I'm trying to develop a Sort feature on my website's search page(its url is /anuncios/buscar). What I tried is to create a "map" on routes file: map.search_filter_relevance "/anuncios/buscar", :controller => 'announcements', :action => 'search_filter_relevance' Then, I wrote this on the view: <%= link_to 'M&Aacute;S RELEVANTES', search_filter_relevance(@announcements) %> And finally, I created a method in the controller, as is specified on the routes' line: def search_filer_relevance raise params.inspect end First of all, as I'm sorting search results, I'd like to keep them in their public variable called @announcements. Please help me do this. An the other thing is that when I click the link I get an error due its trying to access the Show action instead of search_filter_relevance as specified in routes. Why is this happening?

• Adding behaviour to a set of classes

  I have defined an Event class: Event and all the following classes inherit from Event: SportEventType1 SportEventType2 SportEventType3 SportEventType4 Right now I will only have SportEvents but I don't know if in the future I'll want some other kind of events that doesn't even have anything to do with Sports. Later, I will want to draw some graphics with info taken from Events, and the drawing logic can be a bit complex. But, for the moment, I think I shouldn't think of how the drawing will be done and I believe that maybe it'd be better if that drawing part was not put as an integral part of the Event/SportEventX class chain. I am looking for solutions for this problem. I know I could just make Event have an instance variable(attribute, for the java crowds) pointing to something as an IDrawInterface, but that would make the Event class "assume" it will be later used for drawing. I would like to make the Event class oblivious to this if possible. Thanks!
