  • Windows 7 - File Type config

    In XP, I could go ToolsOptionsFile Types and modify descriptions, icons and actions. Does this still exist in Windows 7? I'm not finding anything explicitly saying so, but there are lots of recommendations to download assorted random software to do it. There must be a way to change this without having to use third party stuff?

  • 2Wire USB Network Adapter Not Working With Windows 7

    I installed Windows 7 on a separate drive, and everything works fine, but I can't get the above network adapter to work properly. It's displayed in Device Manager as a USB device, and I have the driver that makes it function in Vista, but when I run the Driver Wizard and direct it to directory where I have the Vista driver, it almost immediately says "Can't install driver." Is there any work around to this?

    Am using ROXIO 1. to copy DVD file to my computer 2. to trim a section of the video 3. to convert the file to wmv and this is where Windows Vista gives the message that the program cannot continue. 4. I have followed all of the instructions from ROXIO support to clean my system and do a new install. It still does not work Anybody know how to resolve the problem?

  • CTRL-Space always toggles Chinese IME (Windows 7)

    I am running Windows 7 Ultimate (w/ SP1), and have multiple UI languages installed - mainly for screenshots etc. Among them are Chinese (traditional) and Chinese (Simplified), which insist on hooking the CTRL+Space key even though I have disabled / overridden these hotkey assignments under Language Bar settings / Advanced key settings. (It conflicts with CTRL+Space in the Visual Studio IDE, and is pretty annoying beyond that.) Any ideas?

    When I try to use Curl on windows, to retrieve an https url, I get the dreaded "connection error (60)." The exact error message is: curl: (60) SSL certificate problem, verify that the CA cert is OK.     I have photos on my network drive that I want to display (in live tiles preferably in the photo app). Under c:\users\paul\pictures I have made a link to them, using mklink /d: And this works fine in classic: But nothing appears in the photo.app: I am guessing that this is an issue with indexing - the photos won't appear until they are indexed, and Windows won't normally index a network drive (unless you make it "available offline, which just copies the files locally) - but this is exactly what the mklink was supposed to work around, and the properties show it is indexable: Any ideas?

Ideally it needs to work w/ MS Word, needs to be configurable in how it gets triggered, (i.e. the string hdt when followed by a space gets transformed into Help Desk Ticket, but hdt gets ignored). And needs to have an import option where a large list of tags & expansions can be loaded. Plugins for UltraEdit/Notepad++ would also be acceptable.

  • Connecting with SMB from Mac to Windows server

    I'm trying to connect from my Mac to a directory on a Windows server. Here is what I'm doing from the finder : menu Go->connect to server->smb://srv-fichiers1/Personnel/conujer I get an error (error code -36). But, from the finder window, if I click on Shared->All->srv-fichier1->Personnel->conujer, I have access to the directory. I don't understand why I cannot connect straight to conujer.

    I would like to look at some log files solely via the console on a standard Windows 7 machine. The logs are created by schedulded tasks and I find it a hazzle to use VNC for this purpose. What technology should I look at? Powershell, Cygwin via ssh or something else? The log files are written using log4Net - thus there might also be an easy way to reconfigure it to create events or something else for remote display.

I have already installed cygwin and openssh on this computer. i'm open to non-cygwin sshd as long as there won't be any compatibility issues with cygwin related programs.     As you might know sandboxing software doesn't work in 64bit Windows due to patchguard. What are the alternatives for a person looking to test untrusted / temporary software? Edit: @Nick I'd prefer an alternative to VMs as I'm not happy with the extended startup time, the extra login sequences and the memory overhead that accompanies booting a VM solution to test something out ocassionally as a home user. Also it's another system that needs to be kept secure and up to date.
